This took a little bit for me to get into. But once I got there I was sold! I love the stepbrother trope. And this didn’t disappoint.
Phoenix was the popular “it” girl at her school. But all of sudden her world is flipped when her dad’s affair comes out and her parents divorce, her mom tries to k!ll herself and is sent to a rehab, her brother self destructs, and then there’s raging jealous b!t€h doing everything in take her down. And if all that’s not enough, she now has a gorgeous stepbrother living with her.
Maverick, who was neighbors with Phoenix until he got shipped off to boarding school at 12, is back in Malibu living with his mom and new family. He came back with a plan- destroy Austin Bancroft and his two kids, and take everything from him like he did to Maverick.
But he wasn’t prepared for the challenge of Phoenix. These two are instantly drawn to each other- like moths to a flame. He also wasn’t expecting Brooklyn, Phoenix’s twin brother to accept him in. Which has him questioning his plans. There’s so many secrets and betrayals and when they’re revealed he’s afraid he’ll lose Phoenix.
This was a good book. Once it got going I couldn’t put it down. I needed the ending and to see how everything played out. I’m so looking forward to seeing Brooklyn’s story, and I really really hope that Twit Twat Tate gets her!

Ruse is the first book from Malibu Cove Chronicled series by author duo Bellamy Roswell and Cece Perez.
This Stepbrother/Step sister, Enemies to Lovers, Forbidden Romance follows the story of Phoenix ‘Nyx’ Bancroft and Maverick ‘Mav’ Carter through their dual POVs.
This book did catch me off guard from not being what it had me expecting, which definitely ended up being a good thing IMO.
Slowly but surely each page eventually reeled me in, whilst hitting hard and deep at times.
However it was no surprise from the narrative that was drama packed, whilst bringing thrilling, suspenseful moments packed with major punches. Particularly when it came to the Hot AF Fiery steam that continued to burn Brighter, Smokier and Hotter with every carnal filled Spicy moment shared between Nyx and Mav.
To say they created many huge explosions in those times together is an understatement to say the least.
Although the story development was focused mainly around the main characters of Nyx and Mav.
It didn’t stop Bellamy and Cece from creating subplots involving the secondary characters, which although had you intrigued in wanting to know more.
The way they navigated it allowed for it to never fully overshadow the main storyline and take your attention away fully from Nyx and Mav. Always making sure the focus went back and stayed on them.
Despite being a great read, there was a little bit of a struggle for me when it came to staying on track at the start.
For some reason my pace was slower than usual in the beginning, leading me to take my time in reading the story. Something that is unusual for me when it comes to stories that are enjoyable. However eventually it all passed, reeling me in quicker and faster after.
Ruse definitely ended up being an enjoyable read overall from Bellamy Roswell and Cece Perez.
So much so that they have me excited to see what’s to come with the rest of the characters from the continuation of the Malibu Cove Chronicled series.

Maverick and Phoenix have known each other all their lives, they were neighbors after all until one day he just disappeared. Phoenix went on with her life until her life was flipped upside down by a family scandal that left her devastated, but she wasn't going to let that deter her. She might have lost most of her friends and followers at school AND her boyfriend but that wasn't going to stop her from living. As long as she had her two best friends at her side...is all that mattered.
When Phoenix finds out that Maverick is her new stepbrother, she is not happy about that revelation. Not only did he appear out of nowhere after several years of being absent but he came back looking like a god. All the girls lusted after him at school and wanted at least a taste of him. But he had a goal in mind, to have Phoenix fall for him no matter what, but what he wasn't expecting was to fall hard for her.
His agenda for coming back was just for one reason -- to get revenge and what better way to do that? By sweet talking Phoenix and getting her to fall for him to later plot his revenge and hurt her in the process. The question is, will he get his revenge and hurt the girl that will eventually own his heart??
This book had heat, a lot of heat and the drama was just ongoing from beginning to end. Phoenix and her twin brother Brooklyn went through a lot with their parents.
This book gave me everything the author were teasing us about and then some! LOVED IT!!

“Ruse” is book 1 in the Malibu cove chronicles. This is my first read by Bellamy Roswell & cece Perez, and I’ll be sure to read more of these two authors in the future. Bellamy Roswell & Cece Perez have collaborated together and created something magnificent.
Phoenix is the queen b of her school she has it all the perfect life, the perfect family.. until she finds herself put in the middle of a scandal involving her father and Phoenix’s life is turned upside down and adding her new step-brother Maverick to the mix and Phoenix’s life has just become a chaotic mess.
Maverick wants revenge and he doesn’t care who winds up as collateral Damage even if it’s his new step-sister Phoenix. What Maverick doesn’t anticipate is the magnetic pull he has towards his new step-sister. Maverick and Phoenix’s chemistry is off the charts. I devoured this story and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this fantastic series.

This book Stepsibling, enemies to lovers read is packed with a few other things for everyone. Maverick is the bad boy, who not only dislikes his stepfather but taunts and teases his stepsister Phoenix aka Nix in delicious ways. He holds power and knowledge and is waiting for the perfect moment to use it. Phoenix tries to resist Maverick but each find it hard to atop thinking and wanting the other. This was steamy, forbidden, enthralling, with secrets galore and well written. I was excited for this book and Bellamy and Cece did not disappoint.

This book is basically a meeting between Gossip Girls and Mean Girls. Definitely needed a book like this.
Here we have Phoenix, a girl that had a typical perfect life in Malibu Cove: a popular boyfriend, a perfect family and money… but everything was ruined with the scandalous case of his father (and consequent separation between her parents) with the neighbor. If this isn’t in off, she also ‘gains’ a new stepmother and step-brother- focus on the last, because of course that he is the bad boy searching for revenge and thinks of using her for his goals. With a lot of drama and sexual tension between the couple, we have a good introduction to a new world writing by the author.

Bellamy and Cece are back with yet another spectacular book! Phoenix was strong and tired of pretending to be the perfect princess everyone that she was. She grew a lot through out the book and it was great to see her come into her own. Maverick, oh Maverick!🥵 He was the perfect mysterious, broody bad boy we all love. He came back into town with a plan but didn't expect for it to all fall apart with one look. They both had their lives destroyed by the people they thought loved them the most, and even through all the hurt and anger, they ended up helping each other heal. I'm really excited to see where this series goes, as there seems to be quite a few intriguing individuals that sound like they have quite a story to tell.

Phoenix is the girl who has it all. Looks, money, perfect family, most popular girl in school. Or so you’d think. But her family life isn’t so perfect and when her ex boyfriend cheated on her, down came her popularity. But a few friends stand by her side. Her father divorces her mom. Her mom tried to commit suicide and is in a rehab facility and a month later her dad is remarried. Phoenix now has a step brother Maverick who has been at boarding school for 8 years. She can’t stand him. Wants nothing to do with him but feels he’s out for revenge. She doesn’t know what the revenge is but she wants to beat him to it to find out what it is. Her walls are up. Secrets are coming undone and eventually Maverick is tearing down those walls only to have them be put back up when a huge life changing secret is out in the open for all of Malibu Cove to witness. This book is filled with angst but you can feel the chemistry between Phoenix and Maverick instantly. This is definitely a 5 star read.

I love these authors, they are incredibly creative and their stories are mind-blowing, so when I saw they were gonna release a new book I added it to my TBR immediately, cheating on all my "already bought" books since I read it as soon as I got it! and what a rollercoaster.
This is the story of maverick and Phoenix, stepbrothers, kind of enemies to lovers, kind of lust at first sight attraction, and they go through a lot of drama and plot twists and at the end something happens!, because I swear to God when you think these awesome authors are gonna give you an easy HEA, boom! wow! I mean wow!
Long story short, I loved the characters specially Phoenix, loved the storyline, loved the plot twists, but some parts of the story left me with a lot of questions. However, since this is the first book in this series I bet we will get more answers in the next books!
PS. Aren't the covers (yes, there are 2 covers) just breathtakingly beautiful!?

I'm sure its obvious by now that I absolutely love the step-siblings trope (I blame Clueless for this!), so when I saw this I couldn't not read it.
There's so much drama going on in Phoenix's life, and it all starts coming to light after the summer her dad's affair is revealed.
This brings Maverick into her life and her home as her new stepbrother.
Maverick is a typical bad boy, tattooed, smokes, and keeps a lot of secrets, but his plans keep getting sidetracked by his stunning and addictive new sister.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a little slow to begin with, but once it got going, I couldn't put it down.
The smut is so good!!
The fairground scene nearly melted my kindle 🔥🥵
I can’t wait to get my hands on Brooklyn's story, especially after everything that happened at the end ❤️

What a start to a brand new series! I enjoyed this step-brother, forbidden romance. Maverick and Phoenix had such an intense connection and the chemistry was off the charts! So much drama and steam throughout this book. Can’t wait for book 2!

Being that this was my first time reading both Bellamy and Cece i really was not so sure what to expect. But I came across the sign up for Ruse the the first installment in the Malibu Cove Series and was immediately intrigued.not to mention there are so many of my all time favorite tropes .forbidden, enemies to lovers and step siblings . That right there convinced me to give it a shot and man am I so freaking happy I did . Maverick and Nix’s emotional rollercoaster of a journey was everything I could have asked for and so much more . Forbidden attraction, off the charts chemistry, angst , witty banter , drama , heartbreaking and heartfelt moments , twists and turns , family , friendships, scandal , secrets , vengeance, non stop action, moments that are dark , raw , gritty and mind blowing , to the point that I actually found myself speechless and on the edge my seat heart beating so fast . I smiled, I cried lied a baby all while rooting so hard for both

These two authors always come together and create some of my favorite characters and stories. I absolutely LOVED Ruse. The storyline was great and I was kept on my toes about a few secrets, not knowing when they were going to all come out.

So this is the first time I have read anything from either of these authors. So I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I have to say I'm glad that I gave this book a chance.
So I loved Phoenix. I thought she was a tough cookie. Let's be honest high school is all about the drama and higharchy. And evidently Phoenix and her twin brother Brooklyn have lost their respective places because of their father's choices. I really liked how Phoenix wasn't going to let anyone push her around or put her down.
I mean what can I say about Maverick? I loved Maverick.
I thought this was a great start to this series. There was drama and some twists. I liked most of the secondary characters. And I can't wait to read more of this series.

Phoenix’s story pulled me in right from the start and continued to take me on one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride filled with an immense amount of angst, drama, passion and pain. When her stepbrother comes back into her life everything gets turned upside down.
Maverick is dead set on dishing out revenge but didn’t realize that his greatest downfall would be Phoenix. The chemistry between these two was so thick you could cut it with a knife. It was hot, sexy and utterly explosive. I couldn’t wait for them to let their walls down, say to hell with what people think, and just give into the lust and desire that continually pulls them together.
Really well written story with amazing characters and with a storyline that is suspenseful, enticing, drama filled, emotional and very sexy!

This is the first in a new series, and what a wonderful beginning this story it! Phoenix has had her world tipped on its axels with family drama, and she lost friends, and a boyfriend, over it, but if she has her two besties by her side, she is content. Maverick is a bad boy, and he is back in town for revenge, and Phoenix is his target, and he is her new stepbrother. These two are complete opposites, and the chemistry between them is intense, but can they move on from enemies / lovers? This is a well written story which has drama, scandal, vengeance, emotions, family, friendships, forbidden love, and is a steamy and gripping page turner.
I look forward to reading more from these talented authors’ whose work I highly recommend.

Great read! I've volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. This is my first time reading a book by these two authors. Ruse is the first book in the Malibu Cove Chronicles series. Ruse is about Phoenix and Maverick. Phoenix is the girl who has it all from the looks, money, perfect family, and the most popular girl in school. Or you think so. Maverick, who was neighbors with Phoenix until he got shipped off to boarding school. But now Maverick is her new stepbrother. These two have known each other their entire lives. Maverick and Phoenix's chemistry was off the charts! This was steamy, forbidden, enthralling, with secrets galore and well written. I highly recommend. Can't wait to read more this series. Keep up the amazing work!

Phoenix was the Queen of Malibu Cove High until the scandal of her father’s affair knocked her off her pedestal. Reeling from her mother’s attempted od and her father’s new marriage to his mistress, she also has a hot new stepbrother living with her. Maverick is angry and resentful that Phoenix’s father broke up his family and he is out for revenge. He didn’t account for Phoenix or his overwhelming attraction to her and how this would affect his plan.
The tension between Maverick and Phoenix was off the charts 🔥. I loved their back and forth and love to hate relationship. The side characters were also interesting and I’m looking forward to reading more of this series. I definitely recommend if you love angsty stepbrother romances.

Everyone is hiding under fake smiles.
Right away you know that Maverick and
Phoenix are going to end up with intense
feelings. After their world implodes, they
set out to get even, but they weren't counting
on falling for each other, or gaining loyal friends
along the way. They ended up with people that
actually cared and rooted for them. I liked how
you can tell that the foundation for the series was
laid out in this book, giving you not only Mav's and Nyx
story, but you get glimpses of the others as well.

A rich girl, Phoenix, is kicked off her pedestal because of family drama. Her father had an affair and married the mistress. When the mistress moved in so did her hot son, Maverick. This is a story about these two hating each other because of their parents and inevitably falling for one another. Of course, they don't fall easily.
This was an okay read for me. I'm not sure what I felt it was missing because it is a good book. Plus, I've enjoyed the other books I've read from this duo. I'm thinking its a case of 'Its not you, its me'.

Ruse by Bellamy Roswell and Cece Perez has just been what the doctor has ordered. Forbidden enemies to lovers romance involving step-siblings with hidden agendas and lots and lots of secrets. I’ve loved every moment of it, biting my nails and dreading the ending. Phoenix and Maverick were emotional, explosive and angsty. I just couldn’t get enough of their story. I have a feeling this new series, Malibu Cove Chronicles, will be one of my favorite series when completed.

Ooo the spicy chemistry in this one is off the charts!
It is a big rollercoaster of emotions that had me glued the pages of the book until I finished it. I was fanning myself in places, tearing up in others, and rooting for the main characters throughout. Both of them are strong, but also vulnerable at times and the fireworks that go off when they are together is so good! Can't wait for more of this series!!

Took some time to get into this book. Once I managed to get the into it then I got the vibe. Phoenix's life was amazing. Have money, perfect boyfriend and a popular life. However, everything went down after her father's scandal happened. She got a step mother and a step brother. This was a good book but not amazing. Lots of betrayal, revenge and lies involved. However, I'm curious about the ending.

This took a little to get into, and I found it was longer than it needed to be which I found myself losing interest, but the last quarter of the book is were all the magic happens the first half of the book is basically like an introduction to the characters for this series but it definitely ended with a bang.
