This book is for the 'others'. For anyone who's ever felt othered. For us lot. Who deserve celebration and opportunity. Each one is written with love, with the actor in mind. I hope they make your body feel fizzy, I hope they get you all the jobs, I hope your flowers bloom.
If you don’t know theater, monologues are often used for auditions or cabarets, and usually they’re divided by gender. But the author points out that this system often leaves out nonbinary people or anyone outside binary gender expression. As a masculine woman, I’ve definitely experienced that myself. These monologues were great — some pulled from author's existing plays, some written just for the book — and I’d absolutely use them myself. I’ll be picking up more of Charlie Josephine’s work for sure.
