Rate this book
Danna Carton is an eccentric in everything from her appearance to the way she lives her life. As a result, she gets overlooked a lot when it comes to dates. Lately, she yearns to have someone special and with the help of Key West's newest coffee shop-matchmaking service she's on a mission to find him.

Coffee and Dessert came up with three possible matches for Danna. The quest to find her soul mate was officially on and unlike anything she'd ever gone through. One of the three men easily won her affection, but the path to happily-ever-after had more than a few bumps and at one point Danna thought all was lost.

Check out the romance, the humor, the chaos, and the love!

Danna by Jan Romes

Set in tropical Key West Florida, Danna decides to sign up for the Coffee Shop-matchmaking service. She has three potential mates, but only one has captured her attention and heart. With her best friend at her side she must decide what she wants out of life, facing any obstacle along the way.

A fast paced fun sweet romance with likable character, humor, friendship and love. Engaging dialog, great setting and plot, I was hooked from the first page. Overall I found Danna quite enjoyable and feel romance lovers will enjoy it as well.

I confess I don’t read a lot of romantic comedies. But even though I’m not Jan Romes’s targeted audience, I enjoyed Danna, the second book in her Coffee and Dessert in Key West series. The premise seemed a bit silly at first. Eccentric beauty Danna Carlton’s goal is to be married in two months—a questionable timeline under any circumstances, especially since she has no one specific in mind.

But such a goal is what we quickly come to expect from Danna, who attacks life with full vigor, and is just the sort of dynamic young woman readers root for from the beginning to the end. Danna is dynamic, emotional, and passionate, leading to some delightful moments. The interactions between Danna and her best friend and coworker, Erin Richards, are light, fun, and delightful. Romes is a master of witty dialogue.

Erin is one of several memorable characters in the story, but this is Danna’s novel and her dynamic personality drives the narrative from beginning to end. The novel is full of local detail, including plenty of mouth-watering sweets. Romes places us so squarely in the midst of the Key West culture and milieu we can feel the heat of the Florida sun on our backs.

Coffee and Dessert is not only a coffee shop/bakery. It’s also an active matchmaking service, and Danna throws herself enthusiastically into the fray. The plot follows the lines romance fans demand, so there are few surprises. When Danna’s budding relationship with Marvin LaRee hits an impasse, readers aren’t left wondering if the two will ever get together. We know they will. But what we don’t know until the very end is how they’ll pull it off.

Danna is a fun romp, a delightful romantic comedy, but it’s also a chance to see past the main character’s devil-may-care personality into the fears and worries lurking beneath the surface. In Romes’s hands, Danna Carlton is a well-developed character who will stay with readers well behind the novel’s conclusion.

Having read and enjoyed the author’s first book in this series, set in the tropical paradise of Key West, I was excited to see the second book had come out. And it was worth the wait!

Danna really wants to get married … and not someday down the road. Soon. The problem: she doesn’t have a fiancé or even a prospect in mind. What’s a girl to do? Let her friend Meg at Coffee & Dessert’s matching service round up some prospects for her. That’s what.

I’m not going to give away any of the story, of course, but I really liked Danna’s character. An emotional woman, she allows herself to feel, to love, and to do what she thinks best when things don’t go her away. What I loved most was Danna’s passion. She’s the kind of character who you just want to hug and tell her it will be all right – and who you want to see happy. And if you could, you’d jump into the book to help things along.

With her characteristic wit, Jan Romes has written another delightful sweet romance, filled with quirky and hilarious interactions, wonderful characters, and of course, true-blue romance.

DANNA

JAN ROMES'

Coffee & Dessert in
Key West Series Book 2

Review by Author Roy Murry

Riley and Meg own the Coffee & Dessert Cafe in Key West, Florida, USA (Book 1), where they met and married. The cafe is a front for a matchmaking enterprise.

Meg is DANNA's friend. DANNA is a blond, outspoken dynamo who wants to get married and does not connect with Meg's matches.

It is comical how DANNA finds her match, who is not what he seems to be. The highs and lows of their commingling and their friends' participation and comments, especially Erin's and Jorge's, make up the romantic adventure.

Ms. Rome's prose and characters' conversations are fun to read, making readers want to turn those pages. It is not the first nor last of Ms. Romes's works I have read.

You should also. Have fun; read all three in the series.

Danna is a sweet and amusing romance journey with a unique protagonist that you'll instantly root for. Between blind dates, emotional bumps, and a coffee shop with cupid credentials, Danna's search for love is equal parts chaotic and charming. With her lively personality and vulnerability, she bursts off the page, making this a delightful, feel-good book that will linger long beyond the final chapter.
The perfect audio rom-com and more.

Danna

This is a great second book in the series Coffee and Dessert! Loved the humor, yet cried with Dan a as she struggled with her feelings for Marvin. Such a great ending!
