USA Today Best-Selling author Roz Lee is the author of over thirty romances. The first, The Lust Boat, was born of an idea acquired while on a Caribbean cruise with her family and soon blossomed into a five-book series originally published by Red Sage. Following her love of baseball, she turned her attention to sexy athletes in tight pants, writing the critically acclaimed Mustangs Baseball series. Roz has been married to her best friend, and high school sweetheart, for nearly four decades. Roz and her husband have two grown daughters and are the proud grandparents to three adorable grandkids. Roz and her husband live in the wilds of New Jersey with their Labrador Retriever, Bud which is code for Big Unruly Dog. Even though Roz has lived on both coasts, her heart lies in between, in Texas. A Texan by birth, she can trace her family back to the Republic of Texas. With roots that deep, she says, “You can’t ever really leave.” When Roz isn’t writing, she’s reading, or traipsing around the country on one adventure or another. No trip is too small, no tourist trap too cheesy, and no road unworthy of travel.
I picked up this short novella to read. It features a male sub who's a DEA agent returning to his small hometown...and across the street is a young woman...who just so happens to be a Domme. The story was good, taking into account the author has a limited space to explore it and to get these two together. I would call this a BDSM lite story...but it was fun to see the Domme and the sub dance around each other before getting together, and then questioning each other.
If you want a quick read with an alpha male who likes giving up being charge, and a feisty woman who enjoys Dominating, then this is a well worth your time.

First Line: He‘d imagined this walk a thousand times over the last fifteen years. Always at the end of the journey was the house on the corner, his grandmother in the kitchen, and a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies on the table for him.
Teaser: “Tell me what you learned yesterday.” This is what he‘d feared, that she would get back on the confessions kick, but he had to admit, he felt better for telling someone about how he‘d gotten his name. He still didn‘t like that Mary Beth insisted on calling him by it, but exposing the secret to the light seemed to have made it less important.
Plot: I do not read many BDSM or Fem-Dom books, but I always make an exception for Roz Lee’s stories. Still Taking Chances, while highly erotic and graphic, Ms. Lee layered in high emotions giving this story a whole other level that made me care deeply for the characters. The story starts out with two people, Elgin and Mary Beth, oppressing their true sexual nature for different reasons and quickly rolls into Mary Beth not being able to resist stepping back into her role as Dominatrix to help Elgin unearth buried issues that are causing him deep grief. Her demands, he must tell her everything, something he is unwilling to do. There is much resistance by Elgin, however Mary Beth is a skilled and talented Mistress that knows how to work Elgin into confronting his fears and his past. Through his stages of healing we get to see this lifestyle at its glory and learn a bit about humans inner workings. Along the road we also get to see Mary Beth’s side of the story and learn just how hard it is to detach oneself when walking alongside one’s sub on the path to an unburdened soul. There is no shortage of heartache and tears before you reach the ending but when you do you can’t help but smile at how things turn out.
Writing: True to her writing style author Roz Lee continues to grace this genre with great skill. She writes about wounded characters that need a helping hand in finding their happily-ever-after and always delivers a sensually erotic story to carry readers away.
Characters: Mary Beth Winters, an artist by profession lives the life of a Dominatrix. Or she use to anyway. Hiding out for the past five years in Prairieview, Texas, Mary Beth Winters is hiding just as much as Elgin and does not want people to know about her sexual preferences. Elgin, a DEA agent that doesn’t blink an eye at the high risks of his job doesn’t have the guts to face his inner demons. These two characters were fascinating to read about. Mary Beth sets aside her reservations of not touching her bag of tricks and Elgin Huddleston refuses to acknowledge he needs help. Both strong but Mary Beth knows how to make Elgin kneel before her so she can work her magic on his soul. I loved both Elgin and Mary Beth for their courage to look for the needed strength and take hold of the other and find the peace they both deserve.
Last Thoughts: Still Taking Chances is as much a healing story as it is a love story. For a short read of seventy-four pages the author worked in multiple layers of eroticism and love that delivered a highly entertaining read. Fabulous Job Ms. Lee!
I liked the premise of this story when I read it, so I got it, and oh, am I glad I did. It was a wonderful story of trust, love, and surrender. Very nicely done, this story pulled me in from the first sentence and I couldn’t put it down.
Elgin ‘Hud’ Huddington was back in town after fifteen years. His grandmother was dead, and he missed her terribly. He shouldn’t have gone on his last mission, as DEA agent he needed his head in the game at all times and he was distracted after getting the news of his beloved grandmother’s death.
He was back to heal, that last mission had gone so wrong and he had lost two agents. As tight as his nerves were, he knew he should have stopped at one of the clubs in Dallas before coming to Parietown, the small town he grew up in.
Mary Beth Winters had left the life behind when she had moved out here, but she knew a man in pain when she saw him, and she knew she could help him. Could she help him and protect her heart while she helped though? That was her biggest question, she had fallen for her last sub and gotten burned badly, that was why she had locked up her box and swore to never open it again. But Elgin needed her help, would he come to her though?
This story takes us though the surrender of a strong man to this woman of iron as she gently, but ruthlessly, leads him long a path that opens the festering wounds in his soul and allows him to heal. To heal and to leave for the Agency that stole him for fifteen years before. Would he come back to her? Did he feel the love for her that had grown during their sessions in the spring?
A five star read of bdsm and healing. Loved every word written and couldn’t wait to get to the next page.
Roz Lee has become one of my favorite authors for good erotic romance. The heroine is a dominatrix, the hero is a wounded sub with a scarred past. The sex is integral to the healing and connection between the characters and I was riveted. Highly recommended.
This is a great BDSM novel that I really enjoyed reading. I had never read any of this author’s work before but I was very intrigued by the blurb and decided to give it a go. I’m very glad that I chose to read this as it was a really great read. I have read a fair deal of BDSM books before but never one with a female Domme and a male sub, so this was very new for me. I have to say that I really did enjoy reading from this perspective. I’m glad that the book is told from dual POV as you get to see what’s going through both Mary Beth’s and Elgin’s minds. I was totally engrossed in reading what was going through Elgin’s head as each scene with Mary Beth played out. It was very eye-opening and thought provoking. I’d definitely like to read more BDSM books with a female Domme and male sub in future. Mary Beth and Elgin are great characters to read. Elgin has a lot of issues and it was amazing to read how Mary Beth taught him to deal with them. Mary Beth comes across as a sweet woman but she sure changes once she gets into scene. It’s like a totally different person. If you like a good BDSM book then I’d definitely recommend reading this.
Still Taking Chances is an erotic story about two damaged people. Mary Beth has been burned in the past and decided to hang up her whip. Elgin is a soldier-turned-DEA Agent with a boatload of trauma to deal with. When they meet, sparks fly!
BDSM stories featuring a Domme are sadly few and far between, so I was excited to hear about this book. I liked the story, there is so much heat between the characters, and I loved seeing them both grow. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of is that there was not a lot of discussion between them about limits. Yes, I know scenarios were set up in a way that allowed him to speak up, but I feel like a conversation was warranted. Regardless, it is a good read, and I love that Mary Beth is not the stereotypical Domme in looks or demeanor (outside the scenes that is!)
When Elgin Huddleston left Willowbrook fifteen years ago he never had any intention of returning. When one of his DEA missions went wrong Hud has no choice but to go “home.” He should have gone to see his grandmother before she passed away but he could not bear to see the disappointment in her eyes. Mary Beth Winters needed a fresh new start after her heart was broken. So she packs up her life, locks up her Domme/sub toys, and starts over in Willowbrook right across the street from Hud’s childhood home. When Mary Beth thinks life is finally settling down, bad boy Elgin returns to town. The two get off on the wrong foot but could Mary Beth help Elgin let go of the demons that trouble him? Mary Beth has a hunch that she will need to open that chest that she locked up five years ago when she moved into Willowbrook. I love how the author took the time to build the relationship between Elgin and Mary Beth. I also love the adult content of this book. This is a must-read if you love streamy page-turners.
This book was packed with good moments, from compelling meets to really good BDSM moments that could make this dear reader certainly swoon! I swear my kindle felt the moments as well haha. I loved the journey this beloved book took me on, the stories and past of our main 2 souls were certainly a deep closet!
I think I made clear, I loved the lustful moments between Hud and Mary Beth, but it was not only their BDSM moments that really were a great part of this book, but basically who they were as characters. They both came from a past. Ones that were not very pretty. I found this really added to the intrigue of the book and made me wnat to know even more. Despite their differences they ahead a lot of common ground, and that made the appeal of them both to one another much more powerful and pulling.
Another part I certainly did love, was more to do with Hud's and Mary Beth's past again. Hud is basically a broken man with a wounded heart. Mary Beth knows how to stitch those heart strings back together. Is she really the good hearted soul she is letting off, or is there more to her tale as well? I loved how much they swore off affections from another or even themselves the pull and the lust, with their personal wow factor was more convincing than their own words they spoke. The story was realistic and very powerful!
Again this book for me was a must read for sure! I fell in love with the author and their writing and very much how this story played out, and I was amazed as well as banging by a thread at given moments through out my reading! Amazing read! Loved it! Very high recommended! Do not miss out on this one!
This is a great romance. I love both the characters and it was nice to read a story about a male submissive and a dominant female. Both characters have a great story to them and the author does a great job of bring them to life. This is a BDSM romance which is hot and steamy but what I really enjoy is it isn't just about the sexual aspect of the relationship the author gives you a complete view including all the emotions and trust that is needed in these types of relationships.
Elgin is a DEA agent. After a mission that went wrong he is sent back home to recover and get his head straight. Back home he realises how much he hates living in a small town. Elgin needs something that he doesn't think he can get in this town without it causing gossip. That is until he meets Mary Beth.
Mary Beth has moved to the quiet town to hide her past as a dominatrix. She has settled into her quiet life and ignored her impulses that is until she meets Elgin. In Elgin she sees a man who needs her help and Elgin sees someone in Mary Beth that can help him heal. However can they embark on this journey without losing themselves to each other in the process? Both of them have pasts that they are trying to hide from other people but will they succumb and give into their romance.
This is the first book I've read by the author. The author knows how to get a reader's attention and keep it. Still Taking Chances is a great read.
Elgin is back in town after 15 years. When he gets to the house he hasn't been to in several years he sees someone in the yard. He soon learns her secret and is intrigued. The quote I chose for Elgin is: “The name is Hud, and, no, Mistress, I won’t touch you without permission.”
Mary Beth is shocked when she is told to get away from the house. She doesn't think anyone will find out what she has hidden for the last five years. She learns that maybe she can help him out. The quote I chose for Mary Beth is: “I find that hard to believe. If you were going to spend your vacation time in Willowbrook, you would have been back to see your grandmother before now.”
This is such a steamy sweet story of submission and healing. Elgin and Mary Beth have such a unique dynamic from the very first moment they meet. Although they both try to keep their distance as their domme/sub relationship develops, it doesn’t take long for both of them to start to develop feelings. I really enjoyed that this was written with a female domme instead of the typical male domme found in many books. This is also a very unique romance in that the sub was an alpha sub and not what typically comes to mind when you think of a sub male. This book really delves into just how healing and fulfilling a domme/sub relationship can be for those who are drawn to this particular lifestyle. The surprise ending is so fitting and made me laugh and smile simultaneously, because it absolutely stayed true to their special brand of romance.
A very spicy book between sometimes submissive Hud and ex-dominatrix Mary Beth that turns even more heated than either planned for. Mary Beth's unique brand of domme heavily involves not just physical submissiveness, but mental as well. She uses her skills to draw out emotional and psychological pain from her partners, as a way to exorcise them of their (figurative) demons. She has more than she bargained for with Hud, who is military-trained, and not an easy target for anyone to extract information from. Both characters are interesting, and I was surprised by how thoughtfully they were drawn. The sex scenes are very explicit, and reveal a lot about Hud and Mary Beth in more ways than one. This book turn a few turns I was not expecting, and if this is your type of novel, you may just want to pick it up.
Still Taking Chances by Roz Lee is a sensually erotic BDSM romance story. This quick read has a strong alpha male who has deep scars, and he believes there is nothing that can help. Can he put his trust in a good woman and with a firm hand and a bag of toys to help him? She is feisty and caring but is she willing to pull her old life out of the closet to help this man. The multi layered story is emotionally charged as Elgin reveals his deepest darkest secrets. But he is not the only one who has a past that affects them Mary Beth has been hiding for five years. When all is said and done will they be able to heal their souls and protect their hearts in the process? I wish there was more. If you are looking for a good erotic romance, you have found it.
I enjoyed this romance story. This is a well written story about Elgin and his neighbor Mary who was a dominatrix at one time. Now she is just wanting to live a normal life, she puts all her toys away until she meets her steamy neighbor. He is in need of healing, will she be able to find the heart of his problem? I really enjoyed these two characters and the steam they brought to the story. There are also some emotional times that tug at my heart strings. They are connectable and pulled me into their story from the beginning. This is a short story but it sure packs a punch. I enjoyed the growth and chemistry of the characters throughout the story as well as the plot. I highly recommend this book.
Still Taking Chances by Roz Lee is a steamy contemporary romance with BDSM scenes, Femdom/Sub dynamics, erotica, male submission, tension, drama, and healing. Elgin ‘Hud’ Huddleston is a DEA agent who has returned to his hometown after his latest mission went awry. He hopes this time will help him regroup and deal with the burden he is carrying. Mary Beth Winters thought she left her past behind her, but that changes when Hud moves into the house across the street. She can’t help but notice his pain, and her former life as a skilled Dominatrix means she may be able to help him heal. So, she unpacks her box of tricks and gets to work. What happens here makes for a racy read! Happy reading!
This was a great 5 star read. I was pulled in right from the beginning. You could feel the connection between the characters and the author does a great job with their story as well.
Both Elgin and Mary Beth have things they are trying to move forward from. There is something about Elgin that calls to Mary Beth and she has the need to help him. Can these two help each other move forward? Can they have a HEA?
Overall I really enjoyed this steamy read. My emotions were all over the place. I loved Mary Beth, she was feisty and she cared deeply about helping Elgin. Elgin tugged at my heart strings with the things from his past. If your looking for a great erotic romance I highly suggest this one. 1-click and get started today.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this book, but I gave it a chance. It turned out to be pretty good. I don’t see books about Dominatrices very often so it was interesting to see how that character interacted with Elgin. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t really read this type of character before, or what exactly, but I couldn’t get the love vibe from it, even though the characters were falling in love with each other. The only time I really got a hint of romantic vibe was after Mary Beth gave Elgin the gift and he’s using it. I totally got the healing aspect from the BDSM scenes that happened in the book. Not sure Dominatrices are something I would choose to read regularly, but it’s not bad for an occasional book fling.
The author did a great job with character development, and the book gets pretty steamy and graphically detailed during BDSM scenes. I kind of feel like there could be some spin-offs of this novel giving more of a backstory to both of the main characters, Hud and Mary Beth, or there could have been more revealed in this novel leading up to their meeting.
The short amount of time (less than a week, really) that Mary Beth was Hud's Mistress seems like a super tight timeline for the two of them to make the progress they made in their relationship, and made it feel less realistic to me, even if some of the scenes got intense. The book was unpredictable in how it progressed and ended, though, and the epilogue kind of helped tie up the story nicely.
I can honestly say I didn't know what to expect walking into this, though the synopsis gives a fairly good idea as to what I was getting myself into. Mary Beth spoke to me in different ways, as she truly wants to help those around her, Elgin (Hud) in particular. Though she has the education backing her to utilize her abilities in more of a mainstream fashion, she feels more comfortable and true to herself by doing so via her "Mistress" persona. Hud is very much what one would see as an Alpha, though this does not apply in the bedroom. He has his demons and ghosts, and I very much enjoyed how these two melded together to make a very addictive story.
All in all, not necessarily my cup of tea, but I very much enjoyed this authors writing style and the story within the story. Well done!
Wow, this book is a bit different for me when reading Dom/Sub or BDSM. This is my first book that I have read in which the roles are reversed. DEA Agent Elgin Huddleston comes home after a failed mission in which he loses 2 of his fellow agents. Elgin has a lot of past demons he needs to address. The loss of his grandmother, his mother and his fellow agents. When Elgin meets his neighbor, Mary Beth..this is when the story takes a turn. Not only is she a dom, but her methods are more to help psychologically. She wants to help Elgin confront his demons and love himself before things turn more to the want of being together. This story is more then just lust, BDSM and erotic, this story really dives deep into healing and the psychological aspect of past demons.
Still Taking Chances by Roz Lee. This is a first read for me by this author and I’ll definitely be looking for more. This book isn’t for everyone but it’s definitely worth the read even if it’s outside your normal reading. Each of the main characters instantly pulled me into their world and the world they have together in this story. I wasn’t entirely sure I’d find a connection with this book but I was eager to give it a try. And I’m so happy to say I worried for no reason, the characters were so easy to connect with and I loved their story. It’s well written and paced nicely. It’s on the shorter side but it isn’t hindered by that at all. Four big stars and highly recommended!
Roz Lee takes her readers on a ride of romance that leans towards some harder lines of BDSM. What I appreciate is how Lee keeps the focus of her writing on the relationships of her characters. So even though Mary Beth may be dominating her partners with pain, we get to understand more about her through her interactions with them. Lee purposefully writes of the the complexity between the submissive, military-trained Hud and Mary Beth. The set-up between the two characters is meant to reveal something and engaged readers will already be thinking about the purpose of the pairing to the plot or the meaning of the two. Interesting read and entertaining as well.
This book is such a steamy and sensual story. I hadn't looked what this this story was actually about when I started reading, instead juat going in blind. I was so surprised to see the dom in this situation was female but I really enjoyed that variation. It gave the whole book a refreshing feel to it and certainly caught my interest. The characters have such a strong and dynamic connection that the story feels completely about them. I was pulled into their journey and really enjoyed reading about them. This is a well written book that grabs your attention. I would definitely say it is one to add to your TBR list!
Taking Chances is a BDSM romance by Roz Lee. This author is incredibly versatile and man, what an imagination. This book was so passionate, so raw, so erotic, so amazing. Scarred characters who shared a deep seated connection and provided me with endless breathtaking moments. I have not read a story of this high quality in this genre for an age. It was such a riveting and enthralling story, with believable characters and a stunning. It contained such fantastic content, and got the heart rate elevated and made me sweat with intensity. A story of epic sensuality. 5 stars.
Still Taking Chances by Roz Lee is a sensual, sexy romance. This short read has great characters, an intriguing plot, and enough steam to keep a reader on the edge of their seats. Elgin is a strong alpha male with scars and a past full of secrets, but Mary Beth has secrets too. Can Elgin trust her enough to help with his scars? Can Mary Beth finally share her past with someone? But most importantly can they help each other heal? You'll have to read Still Taking Chances by Roz Lee to find out for yourself.
The author does a great job giving the reader an erotic glimpse into the complex and intriguing relationship between a Domme and sub. The relationship between MaryBeth and Elgin shows a level of trust that most relationships never reach. The author’s description of the past that lead to the present is clear enough to grip the reader and give a true sense of healing necessary for Elgin. If you’re interested in an erotic and descriptive look into a trusting D/s relationship, definitely check this one out.
This was a short book but it packed a punch. I was pleasantly surprised that the Dom in this story was a female. The connection between Elgin and Mary Beth can be felt as I read about these two. There is healing, romance, emotion, and obviously plenty of steamy moments. This is the first book I have read by this author and I am definitely going to be reading more. I enjoyed the writing style and how smooth the story flowed. I think you will enjoy this book. When I finished the story I wanted more which makes for a good read in my book. I recommend giving it a shot.
Elgin has some hang ups in his life and is trying to overcome them. Mary Beth helps Elgin to overcome his issues by dominating him. This is a new author to me but I will definitely be reading more! This is a different kind of Dom/Sub book than most out there. It is erotic yet emotional as well. I really enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend it to those who like BDSM and are looking for a different angle of it.
Whew, I loved this story! Its got a little bit of everything – wounded hero, a feisty heroine, and enough chemistry to blow you away! First of all, hard not to love Hud. I loved watching this relationship play out as well. I felt like characters were realistic and that the way romance unfolded was realistic. My first book by this author, but def won’t be my last. Thank you for bringing me a great read that I couldn’t put down!
Every woman dreams of bringing a man to his knees! Not quite in the same context but even so. The romance and defiance this author brings to the table floored me!
This was my first book by this author, and I could not be more happy! I normally don't go for Domme, but I am so glad I went out of my normal zone, because this book was so worth it. And (small spoiler that we all saw coming) when he comes back for her... I almost cried!
