He thought it was a joke. Now, his deceit may hand a tyrant the crown…
Fabren Lacalian never foresaw consequences like this. Teaming with his master for a vengeful prank, the half-human magician forged a false prophecy to embarrass the wizards who belittled them. But after his teacher is murdered by a sinister pretender claiming to be the heir they foretold, the terrified apprentice flees for his life as the sole custodian of the truth.
Riddled with guilt and hunted by assassins, Fabren finds an unlikely ally in an archivist who believes wholeheartedly in the escalating lie. And with only his meager keyhole magic to protect them from the vile usurper’s minions, the sham seer may be the author of everyone’s destruction.
Can Fabren end the madness before the realm falls to its doom?

The Keyhole Wizard is an adventure story that takes place in a world that contains two different kinds of magic. One of the magic systems is very loosely similar to the magic system in FMA. Its an intriguing system I look forward to learning more about in the second book. The plot is pretty straightforward but there are definitely decisions made by the main characters that contain refreshing subversions. Most of the time I hate subversions but Susan and John Ruff do not overuse them and the twists are well done. We also all know at least one work-a-holic and the work-a-holic in this story captured my heart. I love him so much-though it seems I may have competition.

The Keyhole Wizard is a fun, unique, engaging adventure.
I'm usually very picky when it comes to indie fantasy books. Many have boring plots and dry characters with zero personality. But The Keyhole Wizard gave me new hope in the indie world of fantasy. This book had it all: comedy, romance, adventure, prophecy, epic swordfights, politics, worldbuilding, great character development, and so much more. Seriously, the character development was fantastic. I truly felt for these characters and rooted for them the entire way. I couldn't put this book down and I'm excited to continue Fabren's journey into the second book.
✨ Spellbinding and Unique Susan and John Ruff deliver a captivating tale of magic and redemption. Fabren’s struggles feel real, and the intricate world-building makes this story unforgettable. A fantastic start to a promising series!
