Holy Disruption: Harnessing the Prophetic to Shape a More Christlike Church

ONCE WE START LISTENING TO GOD'S VOICE, WE REALISE HE IS A HOLY DISRUPTOR, AND NO PART OF OUR LIVES IS EXEMPT FROM HIS ACTIVITY.What comes to mind when you consider the prophetic? Fiery Pentecostal preachers? End times predictions? Political activism? New Age crystals?

Founder of Accessible Prophecy, Cath Livesey, returns to Scripture to unpack a holistic, Jesus-shaped perspective of the prophetic, exploring how we, as the church, are collectively called to embody this ministry as a key part of our calling to become more like Christ.

This is an invitation to welcome the holy disruption God longs to bring through the prophetic, allowing him to conform the body of Christ to the image of Jesus and to transform the world around us for the sake of his justice and righteousness.

Holy Disruption dispels the myth that the prophetic is a solo enterprise or an optional extra and equips leaders to be confident in taking others on a journey of discovery to harness the prophetic in their lives and communities.

Rating it 5 stars because Cath Livesay did a marvelous job providing a thorough treatment of the prophetic. It reads a bit like a textbook, but that's okay! It's a comprehensive investigation into the biblical and contemporary manifestation of prophetic gifts in the covenant people of God. She surveys an array of voices in scripture - Amos, Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc. - and contemporary thinkers - Heschel, Brueggeman, etc. I like her suggestions for how to cultivate a prophetic culture in our communities, which she argued, and I agree, is largely missing, misunderstood, or misled.

A challenging and balanced view

Cath Livesey writes a challenging book on leaning into the prophetic, whilst not just challenging the conservative who find it daunting but also the prophetic types that can always be learning and refining. A must read in this genre
