Dreams come true

Kaige and Jurzie were from different walks of life, and to some they were an unexpected match. Their journey to love was difficult, but fated. It seemed that all the obstacles or...pain they went through ultimately brought them together.

I appreciated learning about Kaige and Jurzie separately, even though initially I didn't understand it. It set the stage of who they were and the challenges they faced as individuals.

Kaige was a special man. He was fiercely loyal to his family and took care of his brothers when his parents no longer could. His mother struggled with a disorder that she refused to manage and his father met the unfortunate fate of being charged for a crime he didn't commit. Which left Kaige at the ripe age of 21 to fend for himself and his two younger brothers. I liked him because obviously he was solid, but I loved his quiet confidence. It showed only when necessary otherwise he preferred the background. Life seemed to be drowning him as he juggled working, school, and taking care of his brothers. Even his girl De, was unloyal and problematic. There didn't seem to be anything left for him, until he was partnered with Jurzie in class. Although, they didn't get along initially, he was feeling her.

Jurzie was a rich spoiled girl living a carefree "perfect" life attending a prestigious PWI. She had a doting boyfriend, tons of friends, and loving parents. One fun night out changed the trajectory of her life and left her a shell of herself. No matter what she did she was unable to find her way back to Jurzie prior to the accident. Elias, the love of her life, that literally saved hers was pushed to the background as she tried to navigate her new normal. She thought she was being punished by being partnered with Kaige, but the connection they built slowly ...was something she had never experienced before.

This book was a slow burn as Jurzie and Kaige find their way together. They deal with jealous exes, insecurities, and a disapproving parent. Kaige's experience with De left him a little bruised and sometimes that showed up with how he handled conflict. It took Jurzie awhile to open up because she felt...flawed. She lacked the previous confidence she had in spades and it was a struggle.
Jurzie's mother Geneva was a judgmental piece of work. Her disdain for Kaige just because of where he was from and the past he reminded her of didn't bode for a positive relationship. I really couldn't stand her at all. I imagined her nose all up in the air, and she needed to be punched in it, but I digress... Despite all of that they still manage to find their way together.

The epilogue was bittersweet and I loved that their "Dream" was realized. I wanted just a little more from them, because I'm a greedy reader 🤷🏾‍♀️ As head over heels Kaige was, I found it hard to believe he hadn't closed the deal to make Jurzie his officially. I wanted Jurzie's Aunt at the party because we needed her energy. I wanted just a little more interaction with Kaige's father. Overall, she gave us so much. I'm always here for layered characters and a passionate love which is what this book gives.

SN: I found it weird how the parents names were used in Jurzie's thoughts instead of mom and dad lol. It was just off to me 🤷🏾‍♀️🤣

This

This is a good long read. All I got is Kaige, Kaige, and more Kaige. He was all that. I must say that the ending was so rushed. I didn't like that.

I absolutely loved Jurzie and Kaige’s story. Kaylyn has amazing character development when it comes to her stories and this one was no different. You felt every emotional struggle that these two ensured.

Jurzie came from a well off family and was living her best life at a PWI with great friend and an amazing guy until a night of fun ended in a near fatal car crash. Struggling with injuries that tanked her confidence and led her down a road of deep depression she wanted nothing to do with the life she previously had. After a pep talk from her cousin, Jurzie decides to start fresh by continuing her college education at an HBCU and embarking on the ride of her life.

Kaige experienced a very different struggle coming from the hood and having to get everything out the mud. Kaige was on a full ride scholarship and was forced to drop out after his father was convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. He was left as the sole caretaker of his two younger brothers and forced to put their needs before his own. After much convincing from his boss he decided to go back to college and never could have imagined that this decision would lead to finding the love of his life, his peace and solace.

This was such a complex story filled with so much!

I’m glad Jurzie had her aunt to balance out her mother’s judgmental tendencies. I understood Jurzies mom wanting more for her kids but not at the expense of forgetting where you came from herself and behaving as if nothing good can come from the hood.

Larissa was something else. I knew she was up to no good but I honestly wasn’t expecting for that to be her motive 🥴

I felt bad for Elias. I mean obviously all relationships aren’t meant to be but he really was in love and was utterly heart broken. I am glad that he wasn’t led on and she cut ties the moment she knew it wasn’t going to work.

I wish Donya would’ve had a better story outcome but it was very realistic and sadly how most with mental illness end up.

This is my 6th or 7th read from Kaylyn and she has yet to disappoint.

I loved Kaige & Jurzie. Jurzie was dealing with PTSD from a car accident while those around her wanted her to get over it & move on with her life. Kaige was able to help Jurzie with her panic attacks and help her cope with what she was dealing with. Kaige was dealing with so much as well; taking care of his brothers while making sure his father was straight too. I liked Geneva righting her wrong & getting Lance out of jail. The manifestation of Dream was just too cute 🥰🥰.

This was everything I didn’t expect and more, not sure why it surprises me. Kaylyn has been a favorite for a minute and the story of Jurzie and Kaige solidified why. She gave a complete story, no stones unturned or questions left lingering. Yet, the ending left room for the reader to envision how the characters story continues.

Simply put I loved this, even the characters who annoyed me (*side eyes* Geneva) I was still invested. Despite 5 chapters in the epilogue I could’ve continued to read more.

The wisdom sprinkled throughout is something I’ve come to expect from Kaylyn, but it hit real different with these characters. Most especially Kaige. He was going through it, a few times I became teary eyed. Most especially following Mook.

I could go on and on. So well written.

Thoroughly enjoyed this!

This story started off great and then I hit a snag because I was just not connecting to Jurzie. But I already loved Kaige so much I kept reading and I am so glad I did. Jerzie is an incredibly complex character. The author did an amazing job of unraveling all of her layers with the help of the other main character. The way her character was developed was absolutely brilliant. The story flowed well. There were a few instances where I was confused if I was reading a memory or in real time, but I eventually figured it all out. It took me longer than usual to read this story, but I'm actually glad it did because I was able to sit with the characters and really get to "know" them. I wish more was given to Mook, as far as the storyline, but this wasn't his story so I get it. I just really connected with him and would have like to read more about his incident.
Overall, I loved this story and the outcome and would recommend to others.
It read much differently than other Kaylyn books I've read, but that is a great thing when an artist isn't confined to a "box".

This book is exactly why Kaylyn is on my favorite author list. Loved 🥰 the plot, loved the young lovers, loved Kaige’s struggle and taking care of his siblings. Jurizie struggles were so real and vivid. The chemistry between the two was 💣💦🔥. Kaige is definitely bae material and a real man way before his time. Great read🙌🏽👏🏽👍🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There's nothing more compelling than being a young adult and having a plan. That is, until life gets in the way of that plan, and now you're stuck, making it hard to get out of your own way. That's exactly what happened with the main characters in this book, Jurzie and Kaige. This book was a coming-of-age story with a moral that was clear as day. "'Sometimes shit happens so that other shit can happen,' I smiled, causing her to blush as she avoided eye contact."

Jurzie was the picture-perfect girl. She attended the college of her choice and had her sister, best friend, and boyfriend, Elias right by her side. Her mom was an attorney, and her dad a dentist, literally putting anything she wanted right in the palm of her hands. But as stated before, life has a funny way of changing things. Tragedy hits Jurzie, leaving her spiraling into depression and trying to figure out what her next move should be. "I'm honest, Jurzie. I haven't seen much of my girlfriend outside Facetime in the last few weeks." While Jurzie is trying to get her life back on track, she meets a welcoming distraction, Kaige. "'Who is that?' Keturah asked, turning around with a protective mug. 'My annoying group partner.'" Kaige further complicates Jurzie's already complicated situation and she's left wondering if her obligatory feelings towards Elias are more important than her heart. "'That man has your mind spinning,' Draya snickered, causing my eyes to jolt open."

Kaige's life was untraditional from the start. Born to a mother with bipolar disorder, made things even more challenging, but when his father is convicted of a crime and sentenced to fifteen years in prison, he's left being the sole guardian of his two little brothers, Paris and Lynx. Add a full-time job and college to his plate, and you can kind of understand Kaige's frustration with life. "I didn't sign up for this shit. It was placed in my lap because there was nobody else, but I was tired of solving problems I didn't create-shit, tired of solving problems at all." When Kaige finally opens up to Jurzie, he starts to feel and envision things that didn't matter before, making just about anybody reading this root for him and Jurzie's relationship. "I didn't grow up like Jurzie. We don't see the world the same, but she looks at me like it's something in me worth looking at. I feel motivated and inspired when she's around, and I need that sometimes."

This read isn't your traditional love story. The sub-plot in this book touched on mental illnesses, our frustrating justice system, along with trauma. The cutesy stuff that Jurzie and Kaige did just happened to take over. Coming of age stories are at the top of my list when it comes to tropes, and Kaylyn captured the essence of it perfectly. And for those of you that hate when the book ends, and need more of the characters, the epilogue will give you a peek into the matured versions of these characters. Giving any sucker for a happy ending another reason to swoon. If you're looking to grow up with some characters and fall in love while doing it, this is perfect read for you.

A beautiful love story

It starts out as a slow read but hang in there if you want the journey to a beautiful love story. Kaige and Jurzie were both from different backgrounds but when their worlds collided it was beautiful collision.

Jurzie went through a traumatic, near death event and it changed her but the ppl closest to her didn’t get it they all wanted to old Jurzie back. Nobody knew she was suffering and being the kind of person she is she didn’t want to burden them.

Kaige had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Forced to leave school to care for his younger brothers. He was a stand up guy who played the hand he was dealt.

Kaige made her feel safe and free to be herself, he helped her find the confidence that she once had and lost. She was the peace that he needed in his life, someone to be there for him the way he was always there for others. They were exactly what each other needed and once they realized that a beautiful love was born.

It was really an amazing read and I’m mad I waited so long to start it!

SPOILERS

Everything felt organic in this book. Jurzie and Kaige’s relationship flowed and developed naturally. I can see it all playing out in real life. I didn’t see that twist coming with the connection of her mom and his dad, enjoyed that. I glad it ended the way it did. It felt complete to me.

Discussion Question Answers
-Geneva was definitely too hard on Jurzie, but I feel like it tracks with the way we view mental health in the black community, not saying it right.
-Jurzie girl, you better than me. I get why she did it tho. Of course Kaige not knowing the history and why she felt obligated to get Elias to safety made him react that way.
-No, I’m glad he left Trell dumb self where he was. Kaige could have lost his life trying to be a good friend. Then he saw what happen to Marquez and still wanted to be in that life. So let him.
-Lance is a father trying to father from behind bars, of course he feels a way about that. He probably felt inadequate. Some grace is owed to him for the simple fact at how he ended up where he did.
-She was ashamed obviously. Given the way she acts when Jurzie has a panic attack shows she would rather push things under the rug and not deal and act like they didn’t happen. That was natural progression for her.
-Jurzie remained friends with her, I don’t think I would. It was funny that Kaige called it.
-There wasn’t much he could do. She was just doing her job. She didn’t know the background of what went down (and really wasn’t her job to do that). Like she said, why didn’t his lawyer bring all of that up in his case? Lance being the man he was he put Donta needs before his own, the same way Kaige does.
-She was remorseful once she learned the truth and that what made her get Lance out of prison. She sat that one thing.

wow

Kaylyn has once again captivated readers with her latest book, showcasing her exceptional talent for character development. The growth of her characters is phenomenal, and she truly takes readers on an emotional ride.

In this story, Jurzie, exemplifies strength and resilience. I admired how she refused to settle for less, always standing her ground and articulating what she wouldn't tolerate. This assertiveness not only made her a relatable character but also a source of inspiration.

On the other hand, Kaige's journey is equally compelling. As a strong young man, he bears the weight of responsibility for his siblings, which adds depth to his character. It's heartbreaking to see them lacking their mother's unconditional love and support, highlighting the struggles they face. This narrative thread brings a poignant realism to the story, making readers empathize with their plight.

Overall, Kaylyn's writing brilliantly intertwines themes of resilience, love, and the quest for support, making this book a must-read. Her ability to craft such relatable and strong characters ensures that readers will be left thinking about them long after the last page is turned. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a heartfelt journey!

The circumstances weren’t the greatest but the reasoning was a DREAM come true for Jurzie and Kaige.
Juzie is from an affluent family and had her whole future mapped out but one night a car accident charged her life. She became a completely different person she couldn’t recognize mentally and emotionally. Also living a permanent scar after receiving a liver transplant which brought down her confidence.
Kaige was from a completely different part of town but with a promising future with a full free ride to college on an academic scholarship. That was until his father was accused of a crime he didn’t do which left him to take care of his two younger brothers because his mother was mentally unstable and refused treatment.
Has faith would have it, they both transferred to a new college, Kaige, so he could be closer to home, and Jurzie, for a change of environment.
They were assigned partners in their advance class and the attraction was there from the start….

I fell in love with their love. It was so fast and impactful. They both had traumas that some how was the destine that brought them together.

Awesome Read

Kaige was a very strong black man. He dealt with a lot at such a young age. He took on the job of parenting his siblings and handled it with no complaints most days. Jurzi getting into that accident opened up a different version of her. Changing schools helped her find herself because she didn't like being around people from the past anymore. Her meeting Kaige in class seemed like destiny for the both of them. The more they got to know one another, it seems they begin to rescue one another. They both were battling things that they helped each other get through. Jurzi learned to do what made herself happy in spite of what Geneava or Larissa said. Draya just wanted to be there for her. She loved spending time with her Aunt and cousin. Kaige was gone always do what was right for himself and his brothers. His Chipmunk fit in perfectly. This was an amazing read and I was glad to see my name (Taffany) in the book! Job well done!

What an excellent book

What a full circle book. This was an excellent read..I enjoy all of Kaylyn's books but this felt different. Felt so many natural life lessons. There was some sad, good and indifferent lessons here. Relationships are not easy and it doesn't matter who they are with. The key to it is if you value them...they require work. I had several favorite parts to this book. My first is the early relationship with Jurzie and Kaige. They had natural chemistry and I loved how they treated one another. Fun banter. The other relationship I loved besides..the relationship Jurzie and her sister had with their parents, was the one Jurzie had with Kaige's brothers. They needed a mother figure in their life and Jurzje just tried to be a listening ear. I loved that!!! She was so smart at a very young age. I know her accident probably contributed to some of her qualities. Great job Kaylyn...take a bow

OPPOSITES ATTRACT
I always love your work Kaylyn. I see the development in your skill throughout the years, you will forever be in my top 10 authors. I loved me some Kaige (Cleophus) and Jerzi (Chimpmunk), their love story happened so suddenly, but it was realistic. My heart went out to Kaige taking on grown man problems when he was just a young adult himself. I felt bad for their mother because she couldn't help the way she was, which caused her to miss out on her son's lives. Lance, even though he was locked up, he was a parent from the inside. Jerzi's momma got on my nerves. I would like to hear from the supporting characters such as, Draya, Rashun, and Keturah. I highly recommend this book or any book by Kaylyn.

Perception Is Everything!!

Everbody wanted Jurzie to go back to the old Jurzie. No she went through something traumatic. She's not the same. Geneva even tried pressure her into going back to school. Jurzie broke up with Elias because they were going into two different directions. Larisa felt threatened Kaige because he seen through her. Elias just thought she was being a good friend. Geneva didn't like Kaige because he represented where she came from like Azalea said. Geneva really wanted Jurzie to be with Elias. Draya was jealous of Keturah, even though they were cousins. Then, she tie her and Malcolm situation with Jurzie and Kaige. Jurzie spoiled Lynx and Paris Paris wanted attention and he did care where he got it from.

Ok… I was not ready for all that is Kaige and Jurzie! They were so captivating. I devoured all 484 pages of this book in one sitting!
This was my first read by Kaylyn and she did her thing. I never know what to expect when trying a new author, but she exceeded all expectations. This couple was so complex while also being so relatable. The story line and the realistic factors of this book made me feel a lot for all the characters involved.
Although this was an excellent read, I still found myself wanting more (I know I’m greedy that way🙄) but as I’m writing this review, I know this story ended as it should have however there are a few characters that I would love to hear from in the future!

A beautiful love story!

Bravo to Miss Kaylyn! This story was a beautiful emotional rollercoaster of a love story. You have Jurzie, who is smart, loving, extremely caring and strong. Then you have Kaige, ugh, i love Kaige so much. He was such a good stand-up dude, who carried his family on his back. I did feel bad for how things unfolded with Elias and Kaige did not deserve how Devinka handled him, but i’m so glad Jurzie and Kaige found one another. Their love and need for each other could be felt through the pages. I also love the long epilogue!! If I spoke anymore, i fear I would give away good spoilers, but nevertheless, you need to read this tender love story ASAP!

Make You Mine: A Standalone Novel by Kaylyn is a good and lovely story. It’s my first time reading this book from the author. Kaylyn did a good job. It’s well written and phenomenal page.

Jurize is struggling with her terrible auto accident. She’s trying to get herself back normal but her actions cause push away from her relationship with Elias. Jurize and Kaige didn’t have connection and communication in the beginning but they’re opening up their issues, struggling, families, judgmental and etc. Jurize and Kaige are cute together.

Good Read:

Chipmunk and Cleophus Forever!!

I love a loooong book, 400 to 500 pages, as long as the pages have purpose and are necessary to the flow of the story. I thought this story was well written, and I really enjoyed it. It flowed soooo naturally. I loved it!
This is my first read from this author. Now it's time to dig into her catalog!

Jurzie was the light Kaige needed. Kaige was the solid strength Jurzie needed. They were each others peace amongst the chaos. They helped to anchor each other as well as Paris and Lynx. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well; especially Katura and Azalea. Thank you, Kaylyn! Appreciate your talent for storytelling!

Ima start copying and pasting my reviews because you just never disappoint! I can always count on you to bring everything together. I thought I’d be sad about no social media post, text or note pictures but this story didn’t even need it. I love this couple soo much. I was worried about him helping at the barbershop and hated what happened to Marquez but I’m glad he didn’t get trapped in that situation. I would’ve loved another conversation between Geneva and Kaige, but I get it. Definitely worth the wait!!!

Great Great Read

I enjoyed this story so much! Mental Health and trauma is REAL, Kaylyn did a great job presenting issues along with self care! Young love and facing life challenges! Jurzie and Kaige did that with dignity, respect, loyalty and love for family. Kaine was a child raising his brothers the best way he knew how and it wasn't illegal. He was the true epitome of being his brothers keeper!
Juries had to deal with her own tragedy as well and having a mother like Geneva wasn't easy!
Loved the epilogue, beautiful ending, but would love a Christmas story 🥰

You did it again!!!

Let me just say... my cyber niece is the s#$%.!! This was such a great read. I was worried for Jurzie for awhile cause i knew Elias wasnt "it" for her. Larissa, smh that girl there. I knew she had feelings for Jurz before Kaige said it by her actions. Aunt Azelea is good in my book. Kaige was a man's man before he was ready and handled everything thrown at him like one. I wasn't surprised Mook left him the shop. I truly enjoyed Cleophus n Chipmunk, good job niece

What can I say that's new?

Kaitlyn you are one of my top 5 authors. You never disappoint me when reading one of your books. I know I will get relatable characters, an awesome storyline, and a good length if pages that will hold me attention for at least 2 days or more. I love it. Your writing is awesome. Kaige is my type of dude. Loyal, responsible, smart, and hood at heart. Jurzie was down to earth and had to go on her own journey of self love. This book gave me great loving vibes. Awesome job!

I can dig it!

A beautiful read that hits on a lot of topics that can hit close to home but that are also real life struggles. I personally had a hard time connecting with Jurzie, some points I just felt like she was doing a lot of whining with little to no accountability.

I did appreciate Kaige's POV just because those are the realities of some our men in today's worlds. They are having to be the adult and the parents to younger siblings when they are really just a kid themselves.

❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥

I just loved this book start to finish! This author is becoming one of my favs. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. It’s not one of those long drawn out stories that repeats itself just to fill up the pages. This book is HIGHLY recommended. I’m not going to ruin it for you, but I suggest you go down this beautifully written story with Jurzie & Kaige. Oh yea, can I get a spin-off just cause I’m not ready to let go of there characters???

Great read ! Jurzie and Kaige was so good together they bought out a side to each other that only they could. Kaige had a lot going on and he had to grow up early he raised two boys abs did a great job. Paris didn't appreciate all that Kaige did for him. I'm glad Lance got out. I didn't care for Geneva at all. Glad that Kaige and Jurzie made it can't wait to see what's next!

Jurzi and Kaige

Definitely a love of a lifetime! I liked how this book is different than most of the urban romance books out. I liked that Kaige wasn’t a thug or drug dealer. I liked that Jurzi had some flaws. The character development was on point. Ms. Kaylyn took her time and allowed their love to grow organically. I especially liked that Kaige was loyal. Great book, good read.

My Dream

Kaige took on a lot and he really didn't complain. I loved how he handled the situation that he was thrown in. The love he has for his brothers that's a bond that can't be broken. Mook looked out for him. Jurzie was going through something her mother didn't want to acknowledge. I loved me some Aunt Azalea. Happy Lance was able to come home sooner than later. I would like a wedding book on this couple
