Learning French can be a steep climb, but this cleverly organized, engaging workbook makes the mountain feel far more manageable. It clearly lays out all the basic concepts in grammar, expression and common phrases that a beginner should know, and the examples and exercises are clearly designed and fun to complete.
I especially liked and enjoyed Chapter 17, "Ten (or so) Essential French Phrases". Not only does it explain how and when to use common but tricky French parts of speech such as "Il y a" and "À mon avis"-- it also explains some of the cultural concepts and attitudes that will allow you to master these in context. I'm a more advanced French speaker, but I still learned a lot from this section in particular.
Overall, this is an excellent workbook for learners of basic French. I recommend it widely to anyone wanting to practice on their own or to supplement lessons.
