It's on... Invincible and Atom Eve! Back at home with his family, from where he launches mission against a number of villains, not knowing that behind the scenes a certain Mr Levy is doing a lot of planning. Big danger is lurking. Three Star, 7 out of 12 read where this series is still finding its feet

The crossovers are okay and I liked seeing Atom Eve and Mark getting on so well, but this was one that was somewhat average.

FINE, good art, decent continuation, and some bits (Allen!) were great, but overall I think I expected more.

Mind you, that's like saying you have issues with the cracks in the Mona Lisa, but hey, I'm not comparing this to other comics, just its own brand. :)

This is a fun, easy going, well made volume to grow characters.

So favorite issues are where Mark and Eve working on our relationship. It's slow growing but feels very real. I really loved the way the characters slowly fall in love with each other.

Allen is back, and his part with Nolan is fucking great. Bloody as hell too, and a goddamn blast to read. This is easily one of my favorite moments in the volume.

Also, another great moment is seeing Oliver learning to fight along side Mark and noting they are very different.

Wolfman is decent stuff, kind of corny, but watching Mark handling the Guardians was well worth the admission.

Okay, this is the first time in my seven-years-later-re-read where I'm changing my goodreads rating.
This is a 4.25 stars now.
Sure, last volume was so good and this one has a lot more filler, including the Astounding Wolf-Man issue that is there only to promote another Image title. And yet, I didn't mind this time around because it still keeps building Mark's character. Sure, there are a lot of small moments with many MANY characters. And Mark's storyline here is a bit more stagnant or shallow given that the focus is given too much to build up Eve's perfect girlfriend persona (listen, I'm still rolling my eyes but I'm much less of a hater this time around). BUT it was fun!
It felt fun to distance ourselves a bit from the main plotline, given how heavy last volume was. And we still got a wonderful issue with Nolan and Allen becoming friends and escaping the Viltrumite prison. All in all, a fun volume that teases us with more adventures and battles and the return of Mark's nemesis. (There's the issue of the artwork though, I don't know if they are drawing Mark's face so differently as a way to show him older or what, but I truly don't like it.)

Original review (from 2016)

3 Stars.
Invincible, vol 11: Happy Days. Once again a perfect title 'cause there's not much happening in Invincible's life this time. This volume collects issues #54-59 and The Astounding Wolf-Man #11 and it is an in-between collection of short stories, mostly about Mark's happy days with Eve (I'm sorry guys, I just don't like Eve) and how their relationship is growing. We also have a little two issue crossover with The Astounding Wolf-Man, that actually didn't feel out of place at all. It is just another little adventure in this volume, nothing bad nothing great either. There are a few moments with Oliver (I'm still not buying anything that tiny psychopath is saying, it's too soon to trust him). There's also the story of Powerplex, which wasn't as compelling as I'd hope, although the art was fantastic there and it does give an idea of how people feel about Invincible and if they really trust him.

On the positive side, there's a time travel thing going on, which is quite interesting because we have a few hints of Invincible's future actions. We have Amber again and it was heartbreaking to see where she is now and I'm so afraid for her after the ending of her arc in this volume. There's also a great panel that features many of Invincible's versions from different dimensions. It teases what's to come and it was a great way to finish this volume.

The great thing about this collection, however, was without a doubt Allen's a Nolan's story. I'm so invested in that storyline and I wish we could have had more of them. I adore the narrative style of Allen's chapters, and it was full with action and emotion. So much better than anything that was happening on earth.

I must say, there are a few panels here and there that are... disappointing, Mark's face for example is really bad drawn sometimes. But mostly the artwork is as great as always, even more, because Plascencia does a great job as the new colorist and the action scenes and gore shine even more now with him on the team.

Still, even if I did end up a bit underwhelmed with this collection, after two fantastic volumes is okay to have a bit of calm and little adventures.

The parts of this book that were meh were very meh. The parts that were great were very great. Overall it's an average book, largely because it's a collection of in between stories and not an overarching narrative.

The first couple of stories were pretty weak and had some forced drama for Mark and the crew. Then we're treated to another Allen the Alien issue (again because Mark's activities needed to be censored - something I find hilarious) that picks up where we left him and it's a great ride. It even brings back another character that didn't get nearly enough attention last time. It's a bit of a game-changer for the long game.

Next is a crossover with Wolf Man. And it blows. Kirkman's writing felt weird and clumsy. The plot was loose and hardly made sense. On top of that another artist drew one of the issues and it really showed. The characters had no sense of emotion. This whole thing was just blah. It was probably only done because of an editorial mandate and they wanted to boost interest in the other character.

After that we get a story that's really like this whole volume in one issue. It does a good job of showing several different plot threads and ends with a huge reveal that was just great. Finally we get the story of Powerplex. I think it was executed spectacularly and had some great feel moments.

I can't give this full stars because it really fell short in a lot of areas, but the end definitely reminded me why I'm usually so excited for this book.

This was such a great book! It focuses on Mark and stuff happens like that story with Powerplex in the end and its one of the best villain origins ever, so twisted but so impactful and we can expect him to be a major thorn in Mark's side later and then we have him doing the occasional thing for Cecil like taking down some villains or going to the future to take down Immortal, no matter how twisted that is. But more importantly this volume focuses on the love life of Eve and Mark and the setting up of Invincible Inc and just wonderful! This was such a feel good volume and had such great moments for everyone and I just love this universe now!

Stay tuned for the return of Angstrom levy in the next volume:))))

Invincible Vol. 11 Happy Days collects issues 54-59 and The Astounding Wolf-Man 11 by Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, and Jason Howard.

Ryan and Eve are dating at last! Betweens dates Mark travels to the future, battles the GDA with Wolf-Man, and continues to train his brother. Mark's father also escapes from a Viltrumite prison.

I really enjoyed the Wol-man crossover which was a lot of fun. It is good to see Mark being happy with his relationship with Eve. A lot of big encounters are about to occur in the series.

This was a very laid back volume compared to the previous one , the expectations of the previous issues didn't materialize and I appreciate that . Gives this story some time to character development time . There was also introduction of a new villain , whose backstory is familiar in the comic world , but this time the character is given a twist and I really enjoyed it .

There were some really sweat moment as well , like Mark single handedly whooping the full roster of guardians of the globe . And of course the Allen adventure was also dope and finally ! Mark and Eve !

Entertaining , but a step down to last issue

Damn. Every time. It's always such a good read. I've had this giant stack of comics just sitting there, waiting to be read. And I always put it off because it's such a daunting stack. Then every time I start to read it again I'm always amazed by what Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley can accomplish in a single issue and it's impact on the volume as a whole.

The art is amazing as usual. So clean and crisp even when a character is bloody. I think my favorite moment was the collage of the good and bad moments that Eve and Invincible have shared. I just kept staring at it. So beautiful.

Robert Kirkman doesn't pull punches. That ending! My draw dropped when I saw what happened. Low blow Kirkman, low blow.

I’m back from my long break from Invincible (I finally got the last two compendiums!!) I absolutely love these graphic novels. Invincible never disappoints. Mark’s brother is growing older and needs his big brother to train him, bad guys are countless but defeatable, and his romance with Eve is steamy as ever. What can go wrong now? Well...things are brewing. Mark’s father’s home planet is about to go to war with Earth and some villains have a vendetta against Mark for kicking their asses. Soooo we’ll see what happens!

Well this volume was dark. Not in the literal amounts of shadow, and not the regular gore and violence that Invincible always has, but it tackles some bigger issues of abuse and murder in a more personal way. While I can commend Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley for wanting to address these things they certainly feel out of place as all of them get dumped into this one volume in quick succession. They're also not given much time to grow and are resolved quickly, leading me to be unsure if these are new plots that he'll flesh out later or if this is just all he's giving. If they're brought up again later, I look forward to seeing what happens with them. But for a single volume they all came out of nowhere and were resolved quickly, which was disappointing.

Hear me out...in a vacuum this isn't an amazing issue. But as far as pacing out this story this was PERFECTION.

This was a "slice of life" section at the exact right moment. There are attempts to have a semi-normal life and facing decisions of the past. We are reminded of villains that have long-game plans and one that appears to have loooong-game plans. We even get another instance of a fun running gag.

My point is just that I'm impressed with how great of a decision it was for Kirkman to introduce us to a few new characters and remind of of some old ones while letting things simmer down a bit before kicking into whatever fresh hell he has in store for Mark in the next arc.

Also, I'm ABSOLUTELY reading about the Wolf-Man character soon.

Another strong volume with some outstanding individual issues. We had a great alternate-universe look at the Immortal, a Nolan, Allen, and Battle Beast team-up, and a lot more. Issue #58 was really cool; it acted as sort of a series-wide update on various smaller plot threads, which have implications for the future. And issue #59 was really strong in that Scott Duvall is a "villain" that just makes sense. Invincible has (inadvertently) caused a lot of destruction in his line of work. People have died. So the fact that there would eventually be dangerous fallout from that fact makes total sense. Solid issue, and solid volume.

Eve is much better for Mark than Amber. Their relationship was always kinda meh. I imagine Kirkman wrote it that way on purpose to build up to Eve's involvement.

Yeah I really don't have that much to say about this except that it sets up some new and interesting future plotlines. I'm intrigued to see the way they unfold. Many great panels in this one too.

Good shut, it’s nice getting to read some of the kirkman ottley commentary at the end. Also that last issue woof that was a good one, nice way to change it up while staying relevant and it hit

Excluding the final chapter, the title is very apt, these are happy days for Mark and his loved ones. I don't love what they've done with Amber, though...

Man this volume has a lot going on and I love it all! The romance between Mark and Eve is really intriguing to say the least. Allen the Alien also made an appearance in this, breaking Omni-Man out of the Viltrumite prison. Also, loved Battle Beast. Vicious stuff!

Time travel, parallel universes, this volume deals with and foreshadows it all. And that ending... man! Powerplex and that moment, damn...

Best Invincible volume so far... and that says a lot!

Yet another outstanding volume of Invincible.

Mark even manages not to completely screw things up with Eve this time, so the unexpected can still very much happen!

I don't understand some of the criticism I've seen leveled at this volume vis-a-vis not much happens... I mean, I won't spoil anything, but the list would be quite long. Meaningful events take place, and the pieces are put in place for even more to happen either soon (looking at you in my queue, vol 12) or...later? Kirkman keeps you guessing, and I love how throwaway characters from the earliest adventures keep coming back in new and unexpected ways.

Happy Days, indeed!

I'm really enjoying the Invincible series by Robert Kirkman - the characters are interesting, and Kirkman throws in plenty of inside jokes for those who have been reading comic books for a long time. He does a nice job of playing up the best parts of comic books, while subverting some of the tropes so often found in DC and Marvel books.

Kirkman also puts some nice foreshadowing and long lead-time in these books - there'll be one panel that seems out of place in the rest of the narrative, and six issues later, it turns out to be relevant. Although this would drive me nuts in a title I was only reading monthly, when I can read several collected editions over a few hours, it works nicely.

Big shout-out to Hoopla, a service available through my library that allows me to borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and movies for free. I've been DEVOURING comic books and graphic novels through Hoopla. You might want to see what online services your local library offers!

Another fun, relatively low-key volume. The highlights are the interactions with Eve and the issue starring Allen the Alien. The two-parter with Wolf-Man feels much more irrelevant, which it is.
