Solar power is becoming a widely accepted technology. Project developers and financiers would like to leverage industry best practices in the development, construction, operation and financing of solar projects.

Forecasted global solar installations in 2016 is to reach 76 GW with China, the United States, Japan and India to make up the top four solar markets in 2016. Conservative scenarios forecast capacity to reach 400 or more gigawatts globally, assuming declining annual installations from current levels, while more optimistic scenarios project cumulative capacity to grow beyond 500 GW.

Solar power will have a significant role in providing the smart cities with a 24x7, environmentally sustainable power supply. Distributed generation, such as rooftop solar, can have a profound impact on daily demand curves. However, there are numerous and varied challenges to be overcome at various levels in order to establish a successful solar power industry.

With the adoption of energy by the 193 countries of the UN General Assembly as a sustainable development goal, energy has for the first time been formally recognized as a critical enabler for development. In Paris, at the Conference of the Parties (COP21), 195 countries came together to reach a historic agreement. The world’s leadership has never been clearer in its acknowledgement of human made Climate Change as a problem that we need to jointly address and jointly solve.
