Queen of Mirrors and Madness

They came for me.
I can’t remember them,
but they have memories of me.

Some that make me flush with heat,
And others that make me burn with shame.
Yet they still want me.

Because I’m the key to ending it all.
The spreading madness.
The queen’s tyranny.

Or, I could be the one to end them.
If I don’t get my magic under control,
everyone in Wonderland will suffer like never before.

Long live the future Queen of hearts.

Villains of Wonderland:
Book 1 - Queen of Mirrors & Madness
Book 2 - Queen of Hearts & Hatred

*Queen of Mirrors and Madness is a dark fantasy romance retelling of 'Alice in Wonderland,’ with four morally gray heroes that are a touch insane, and don’t understand boundaries or the word, "No." You’ve never seen the Hatter, the Hare, the Cheshire Cat, and the White Rabbit in this light. (Or shade.) This ‘why choose’ is filled with darkness, secrets, ‘touch her and I’ll end you’ energy, power exchanges, fantastical world-building, and most importantly, it’s spicy.

I am completely and utterly obsessed with this book and the character's that reside in it!!! I mean who doesn't want a Why Choose involving the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Cheshire and more!!!

check your tw there is mentioning of blood among some other possible tw's.

The book starts out with our FMC Adelaide who is in a mental institution because she is convinced that she killed someone but has no memory of how she just knows that she awoke covered in blood next to an equally bloody weapon. she sees things and is convinced she was in another world and someone is after her.

of course she is right someone is after her and she is found and pulled back through a portal to another world.

If you liked the never King by Nikki St. Crowe I feel like you would enjoy this as well. there is a spicy teacup scene and a cane scene, the spice was everything!!!!

When I was scrolling through Amazon trying to find Wonderland retellings I also stumbled upon this one. The cover of this book is insanely pretty. I also really love the title of the book and the series. And then there was the summary. The summary was really vague. That was also what made me kinda curious about this book. I therefore decided to add it to my Wonderland order and since it was a short read I could perfectly fit it in today.

I'm not entirely sure what to think of this book after finishing it. I think my main issue is that there is absolutely no relationship building in this book. The heroine and the guys interact with each other, but their interactions are mostly about sex and lack emotional depth. So apart from the physical aspect it feels like there is no real connection between these characters and as a demi-sexual I really really need a emotional connection between my characters in a book.

I was also a little disappointed with the Wonderland aspect of the story. Since the heroine spends almost the entire book indoors having sex with her guys, we don't get to see anything of the world. The world building is simply not there. This story could have been set anywhere and we wouldn't notice the difference as readers. I hope we can all agree that part of the Wonderland retelling fun is seeing how the author builds their Wonderland?

However, the book was a quick read and the little bit of plot that was there was actually quite interesting and it's a pity that there wasn't more of it. I'm not entirely sure if I will ever read the sequel though. And I guess I'm not the only one, because the release of this book has been quite some time ago and the sequel is still not available. If it ever crosses my path I might give it a chance, but I won't feel sad if I won't ever read it.

This was an interesting retelling on Alice in Wonderland.

I really liked it. A LOT! The characters were great and its pretty easy to tell who is the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat the rabbit; all of them despite having different names.

Adeline starts off this book in a mental institution haunted by a memory no one has recollection of yet she knows its true. She avoids mirrors seeing someone in them who searches for her and she avoids it at all costs until one day she looks into a glass ring and HE sees her...

She is pulled into Wonderland and must recover her memories to defeat her mother the Red Queen with the help of Darius, Lucien, Nox and Baxter who all remember Alice who goes under the name Adeline now.

She was a much different person when she was a princess doing the bidding of her mother while unknowingly destroying the mens lives. She tries to regain those memories to see why she did the things she did and find out why the men act a certain way towards her.

THIS. WAS. SO. GOOD! I loved the way the author spun this retelling. The backstories, the characters the plot...everything was so so good! And lets not forget the spice in this one! So good!

It ended on a MAJOR cliffhanger that had me screaming NOOOOO!!! I look forward to reading book 2!!!!

First of all check your trigger warnings before reading.

This is such a fun book. I enjoy fairytale retellings in the first place. So this book was perfect for me. This is a Alice in Wonderland retelling but with a twist and a lot of spice.

I loved Adelaide’s interactions with each of the men. Also loved the little things that showed who each character actually was. This book is a ‘why choose’ trope so she has four different love interests. The Hatter, The White Rabbit, Cheshire and The Hare. My two favorites at this moment are Nox and Darius. They are both just so sweet with her as she figures things out. Now don’t get me wrong I like Baxter because he is still very mysterious at this point when it comes to Adelaide. Then we have Lucien. He is very blunt with how he feels and what he wants.

I enjoyed the world that was built as well. Along with the spicy scenes. Those were something. Especially the scene with Lucien.

This book was so much fun. I am honestly excited to see where things go in the next book in this series.

I absolutely loved this book. I’m not the biggest Alice and Wonderland fan but this one seemed so interesting. It’s a “why choose” and honestly who doesn’t love multiple men vying for the attention and love of one woman. Nox (Cheshire Cat), Baxter (Hare), Darius (White Rabbit), and Lucien (The Mad Hatter) are🤌🏻💋. It also takes an interesting spin to the whole Alice in Wonderland universe with all of the inhabitants having their own type of magic (e.g., Lucien is a master of illusions, Baxter can get into your mind and lock/unlock memories, and Alice with her blood bending abilities). Literally can’t wait til the next book comes out in September!

I really liked this story. I felt it had The Never King vibes throughout.

I vaguely know the Alice In Wonderland story, although I don’t think I’ve never ever read it. (Something I should remedy).

This book has many of the characters - albeit with different names. The characters are clear though from their characteristics and attire.

The book was pretty smutty and dark. Make sure to check content warnings before reading it.

The cliffhanger wasn’t what I was expecting and felt a little lacking. Still, I look forward to the second book.

But overall was so so. Even though this is meant to read as an ebook, aka short & sweet, I do wish the author would go back & smooth some things out. Maybe develop on the characters some more.

There were times when the story was in depth & building in scene & story line then out of the blue it goes from 0 to 100. Like you were 3 to 4 books in & know all background info..
