Gifted Fae Academy #3

The Strong and the Stolen

Rate this book
Life will never be the same again—for any of us.

Four years have passed since I entered Gifted Fae Academy for the first time. Everything has changed. My best friend vanished into thin air, my boyfriend was sentenced to life in prison, and the school I’d longed to attend my entire life? They shut their doors—permanently.

Using the condemned academy as my home base, I begin to search for my missing friend while a power stealing entity, dubbed The Epidemic, sweeps through my neighborhood. Ancetol is on its last legs as the Gifted Elite flee in droves. I won’t go though... Not until I find her.

When my strongest ally is lost to The Epidemic, the hope I’ve narrowly maintained reaches its breaking point. Just when all seems lost and I’m ready to admit defeat, I get an unexpected break in my missing person’s case.

Is the disappearance somehow linked to The Epidemic? Or is my desperation for answers luring me to take reckless action?

It's time to find out once and for all if a person's strength comes solely from their Gifts... or if true power runs deeper.

The race to save my loved ones is on. The fate of the city rests in the balance, but one thing is for certain.

Ancetol is stronger than it appears—and so am I.

AAAAHHHHHH I really enjoyed this one😭😭
I can't tell you how much I like this series, it didn't seem like something extraordinary or fantastic, and while it is not either, it is a really solid fantasy story. I am happy that I read it and I cannot wait to indulge more in this author's stories.

Thoughts and feelings:

🍁As for this installment of this series, I think that it is the best book out of the three. Maybe the first book is pretty close to this one, but yeah..this one is genuinely 👌 I like the decisions made throughout the whole thing. Mainly, regarding DT. There were moments that I felt hopeless about how the other characters would decide on DT's ending, but I'm happy that they have decided on rescuing him from himself instead of killing him. I understand that he is supposed to be the villain here, but honestly I couldn't see him as one, especially after I saw his character in book 2. It felt like I'm seeing a child who is looking for company and care and love and trust. As Kai says here, DT needs help not revenge. It is not his responsibility that he's born with a death touch gift.
As for his character here, he is a bit more savage than I've seen of him before. Apparently, the way things end between him and Kai has pushed him to show this bleak version of himself. He can trust no body anymore. He needs to hold himself together if he wants to survive while still believing that he's doing the world some good even if everyone says otherwise. And well.. for me.. I kinda rooted for his cause. I can see where it is coming from.

🍁 This book focuses more on the relationships. I love how many friendships come into play. I like how romance is handled here. It doesn't focus on the feelings only, like sacrificing everything for love, but on logic and responsibility. I like how Reina makes up her mind regarding her responsibilities. I like how Kai doesn't push her, but support her until he sees a chance of establishing a solid relationship with her. He never gives up on the possibility of becoming "them" even when she seems to at times.

🍁All in all, this is a solid, fast paced, easy and entertaining story that I highly recommend 🥲

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Brittni Chenelle!

The Strong & The Stolen
is the third and final book in the Gifted Fae Academy series and continues the story of Reina and Kaito.

The Strong & The Stolen was another great book written by Brittni Chenelle! I really liked this book because it was a fun and fast-paced read and I really liked the ending of this book. The story is also really original because I haven’t read something like this series before, which makes me enjoy it even more.

I love how much Reina and Kaito changed from book 1. I remember not liking Kaito and now I have a different opinion about him. Reina is such a brave character and I love a strong heroine! I really liked reading in the two perspectives because you get to know more about the character’s feelings and intentions.

The Strong & The Stolen was such a good and quick read. I love it when books have shorter chapters because it’s easier and faster to read. I also really liked that at the end of the book, there was a link to the Gifted Fae Academy Yearbook. I loved the illustrations and it was nice to see how Brittni Chenelle imagined her characters to look like!

Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Brittni Chenelle for this free copy. All quotes in this review are taken from the Advanced Reader Copy and may change in final publication.

I can’t believe this is already over! I’m going to need some time to recuperate because I do not want this to end!

First of all, that three year time jump in the very first chapter really threw me off in the best way. How could Reina and Kai deal with that?! I know I was kind of shocked but so glad that Chenelle got us through it without making us suffer. I believe that in that three year span, Reina and Kai had the opportunity to grow into their own selves, and do what they need to do alone. They weren’t completely alone – at least not Reina anyway – but things were definitely not the same as they were at the end of The Brave & The Broken.

I guess I should almost mention that there will be slight spoilers from the first two novels in this review, but I’ll try to make them as vague as possible. You’ve been warned!

3.5 stars: A solid conclusion to this YA Fantasy!

It's not my favorite of the three, but I genuinely enjoyed the overall series. And I liked the higher focus on relationships (friendships & love).

The story took a turn I didn't expect but loved. Mainly, regarding DT.
This is how Maven from the Red Queen Series (Red Queen should've been handled, tbh (it's a strange comparison as the stories are so different, but DT kinda reminded me of Maven, and I hated his character arc)

But I lost a little interest from one book to the other. Probably because I'm enjoying adult romances more than YA, but that's a ME thing.

All in all, this was a quick, easy and entertaining series, and I will check out the author's other books in the future!

“There is no good or evil, just those in power and those against it.”

Ahhh this series just flew by! I had such a great time with these characters and am so happy I found this series in 2025. The Strong and the Stolen is the 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 in The Gifted Fae Academy trilogy and wraps up the story PERFECTLY! 🎉🙌🏻

There was such a unique twist to DT's story and I thought that it amped up the political unrest and imbalances between the Fae, Serfs, and Commons even after the events of The Brave and the Broken. We get a lot of scheming in this book, and the vibes are starkly contrasted with the series start.

Reina and Kai's love is also my absolute favorite! So, so tender and endearing. There's a three-year jump at the start of this one and we get to see growth and more mature emotions from both characters. Not a moment passes that their love wavers and it is seriously the most satisfying thing, despite all of the heartbreak and hardships they face. Reminder: Even though the genre is technically YA Fantasy Romance or Romantasy, you still get several steamy scenes and such a heart-melting conclusion to Reina and Kai's love story. 💕

His lips devoured mine as we poured a lifetime of love into one scorching kiss. He pulled me closer, holding me tight by the waist. I grabbed a fistful of his hair as I clasped my arms around him, as if trying to absorb him into myself. Love me, Kaito. Don't forget me. Don't ever let go.

I'm so happy I binged this series! It's both on Audible and free on YouTube if you like to listen and read along like I do. Lessa Lamb and Matthew H. Longoria did an awesome job portraying Kai and Reina. They had me deeply invested in their relationship and actions the entire story.

(4.75⭐s)

Things I absolutely loved in Book 3:
💥 My Hero Academia Vibes (end of manga)
💫 Starcrossed Lovers
🦸🏻‍♀️ Good vs Evil, Heroes vs Villains
💋 Steam & Romance
❤️‍🔥 Childhood Friends to Rivals to Lovers
👌🏻 Perfect Series Conclusion

Action, romance, humor, drama and magic!

I’m happy to have read this conclusion to the Gifted Fae Academy series, but sad to see it end and have to leave their world. Ending a series I enjoy is always bittersweet. But don’t let that stop you from reading this (start with the first one and take the whole ride)!

This book is set a few years from the second but we get to see the growth the characters have made in that time. I think my favorite element of this series is how Kai grew as a character. His evolution was so satisfying throughout this series. He begins as a bully and emerges as a hero. But his motives are always clear and his growth authentic—never forced. By the end, it felt like his story to me, which is unfair because Reina is an awesome and worthy heroine, but I just like Kai so much!

I think the finale was handled well because even though I liked the ending, it felt like a new beginning and I could end the book without feeling cheated. If you like getting overly-invested in the characters, laugh out loud humor and tons of action, this is a great series for you!

I’m so happy I’ve stumbled upon these books. I binged the series and I cannot wait to read author’s other works. I really like Kaito’s character building and the romance part was really good. I liked the ending a lot but I’m kinda sad about the fact that Reina and Imoja lost their gifts (sorry if I’ve misspelled their names but I listened to the audiobooks). I like how they handled DT and I would love to read another book from their world. I’m looking forward to reading author’s other series.

The Strong & The Stolen is a marvelous end to this series.

The GFA series is well written with strong characters that show a lot of growth throughout the books. The world-building is unique. The story is full of action.

I particularly liked how the author handled resolving things with the villain. I can't say much because it will lead to a spoiler, but let's just say it kind of broke the mold.

Disappointed

God I really wanted to like this third book but i just couldn't. I mean, I can understand that the author was building relatable characters and emotional connections the first two books but I had expected all the drama keeping the main characters from being together would get resolved. At roughly 50% through the last book, the main characters just have even more crap piled on that keeps them apart and it just makes you want to give up on them and finishing the book. I'm literally just skimming the rest of the book... I had so much hope and it just got shattered.

I supposed more than anything I wanted them to know that the gifts we were given didn't define us. A person's worth comes not from their superhuman abilities but from their human ones. Our will to help and protect others is what makes us strong. It's true that some people are born with extraordinary gifts, but we're all capable of heroic deeds. I know that things won't sort themselves out overnight, but one act of kindness at a time is all it will take to heal Ancetol.

After the ending of the last book, I was super excited to start this one, so I opened it and this is what I see...

Two years later... So, you want to tell me that now that I finally don't hate Kai, he has been in prison for 2 years and knows nothing about the outside?! 2 "[bleep]" years?

I was mad, but I still wanted to know what happened, so after pouting a few minutes I took my book back and kept reading.

Everything went to hell. Bri was kidnapped and Kaito was sentenced to prison for life. The Fae had officially fallen and were even losing their gifts for a weird epidemic. Most of them fled from Ancetol, leaving in on the hands of Yemoja Roux, but even she was getting old.

Reina wasn't ready to help Yemoja, and had all her focus on finding Bri. She had the help of Oden and Miranda, and a group of search that was getting everyday smaller, as they didn't seem to get any closer to find her.
Without a moment of hesitation, Yemoja scrambled for her phone.
"Wh-what are you doing?"
She ignored me, holding the phone far too close to her face and typing into it. A minute or two later, she looked up. "Done."
"What did you do?"
"Only you can make a decision like that, but either way we're going to need ice cream."

Like things were not bad enough, DT is alive, and he's acting like a Serf and trying to get the Chairman place to control the whole city, that loves him by the way. The city was happy as they lose the fear of touch, almost every Gifted was gone.

Now Reina needs to find a way to stop DT, without Kaito's help...
The darkness hid the silent tears that fell as I realized I'd made a horrible mistake. For a few minutes, I'd allowed a parasite back into my body, one that had nearly destroyed me years ago. A parasite called hope.

I don't know how to begin to describe my feelings with this book. I give it all the stars, but I know that is not the best book I've read, and had the typical problem that I find in some endings that is the secondary characters seem to have gotten stuck while the life of the MC resolves. But then, why do I give it all the stars? Simple my friends, because this is MY blog and I CAN 🤣. But loving a book doesn't mean you are blind to it's "mistakes" and as they may be fatal for some people I feel obliged to point them out. Also, if you need a scientific explanation for everything, this is not your book. Gifts simple exists, and you can have them or not as simply as a mole, which is perfectly fine for me 🤷‍♀️.

I truly loved this saga. The first book was entertaining at the begging but had a bad ending (bad for the characters, not for the reader). The second book had a lot more action and things got even worse. But in this one everything was truly messed up. All the system of the city collapsed, and Reina found herself trying to save a city that now hated her. All while trying to not get broken as her search wasn't working. And tried to make peace with the fact she would never see Kai again.
The only thing left for me and Kaito was a goodbye. Now or after years, it all ended in heartbreak...
It had been us against the world since we'd met. Why wouldn't the universe cooperate?

I got the opportunity to hear the audiobook and read the book at the same time, which I absolutely recommend. Matthew H. Longoria did a great job as Kaito, but Lessa Lamb as Reina truly was the star. This is the first time I understood the importance of the narrator.
Love may be over, but it's not dead.
Even though I'd never see him again, each memory was vividly etched into me...
My strength broke. I didn't have enough time with him. No amount would have been enough, but at least I know that it was real. Otherwise, it wouldn't hurt this badly.

As the other ones, this book is full of amazing descriptions and characters. Every emotion felt so real, everyone was so real. Miranda wasn't as bad since last book but in this one she proved to be an extremely loyal friend and a good person deep inside. Her Gift, visions, was an important part of this book and I think Brittni did an amazing job playing with them and the development of the story.

I completely forgot about the political game in this book. It has a pretty interesting game of powers in the background. Showing how Ancetol people wasn't happy with the system and was ready for a change, no matter the cost.

Long story short, I loved this saga, goes to my favorites shelf and obviously recommend 100% to give it a try.

*All of my reviews are voluntarily written*

This is the third and final book in this series.

Things have changed drastically since the end of book 2. We get a glimpse into what life is like for Reina and Kai since their lives changed. From there, we see what happens with a certain someone is discovered. It turns their worlds upside down.

It's then that Reina, and Kai, have a decision to make. These aren't decisions that are taken lightly, but their choices can bring dangerous, and even disastrous, results.

I really liked how things were wrapped up in the end. It did take me a while to get into the book initially, but once the action got going I couldn't put it down. I'm so excited to see what else this author comes up with next!

3 1/2 ⭐️
I’m probably in the minority being disappointed with this book. I so so loved the first two of this series and they were really fast paced and the main problem was solved. This book is based years in the future and what they had thought well maybe not so much. It feels almost like an extended finale of the last book and epilogue in an odd sort of way. I still loved the characters and world but I almost felt like I’d seen it before? 😖 I’m most definitely in the minority in this opinion though so please don’t be discouraged and make sure to read the finale for yourselves!

Two years apart, two lives unraveled.

I cannot believe that this is it. I’ve reached the end of this trilogy, and I must confess that I’m a bit heartbroken to see it all end. Brittni could write ten more books in this series and I’d read them all, but in truth, she ended this series beautifully, exquisitely.

Two Steps From Hell’s album “Miracles” was playing in the background as I read this book and I cannot recommend the pairing enough to all of you reading my review. Especially when I was deeply ensnared in chapter 2, and track 3, “Compass” began. Pair the album with this book. You won’t regret it.

I’ve been trying to find a way to describe best how Reina and Kaito resonate for me, but I lack the words. So, I’ll let the songs that I hear for them do the talking.

Kaito: ‘Keepin’ Me Alive’ by Jonathan Roy

Reina: ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten

Kaito & Reina as both a pair of warriors together in their fight: ‘Thunder’ by Imagine Dragons.

And then again, as a romantic couple: “Walk Through the Fire” by Zayde Wolf ft. Ruelle.

This book has been a wild ride, from what becomes of Kaito, to what became of DT, to all that happens with Bri, Oden, Miranda, and Yemoja. So many emotions, so many heartstrings, and in the same breath, so many times that you rise with Reina and Kaito to new heights only to fall harder as the fates and those around them spin them around and try to tug them apart.

Without saying too much and giving anything away, I can truly say that this book captured me heart, mind, and soul. Brittni Chenelle has a breathtaking talent for storytelling that is only enhanced and polished further by the discipline and skill she has as a writer. She’s able to weave her words effortlessly from the page into your mind until you forget that you’re reading, and find yourself experiencing every emotion, triumph, and loss from Kaito and Reina instead as if they were your own.

If you enjoy A.D. Winter, Megan Blackwood, Mary Fan, Allison Rose, Jessica Feyden, Stephanie Rowe, or L.A. Pepper, you will enjoy this book.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is all my own thoughts and honest opinions.

Going into this book absolutely loving both books 1 and 2, I had extremely high expectations and hopes for this book. And I was NOT disappointed! Normally I don't like books where a large gap of time between books takes place. For this series, book 2 (The Brave and the Broken) and book 3 take place 2 years apart. Yet, the jump in time was very needed and necessary for the reader to understand the changes and perspectives of each of the characters

There were a few things that happened in the beginning of this book that really confused me, the time jump included; however, everything gets explained by the end. I felt a whole range of emotions while reading this book. Happiness, anger, frustration and tons and tons of sexual tension.

Being the last book in the series, I am completely hooked on the Reina and Kaito love story and this book did not disappoint in any way. Reina is so precious and deserves all of the love and affection possible. Kaito hasn't had the greatest past in showing that he can be there for Reina, but have no fear, he comes around.

Is this series an emotional rollercoaster? Yes. Is this series worth the time to read? Absolutely! Will I recommend this series to anyone and everyone? Of course! Please do yourself a favor and read this series. It will be worth it.

I don’t usually do reviews but 1000/10, I loved the diversity & as a black woman, I LOVE seeing us represented in fantasy because it happens so seldom. This whole series could be an example of “nature vs nurture” due to perspective of both sides & their flaws. In most books I find myself I either feeling for the good guys or feeling for the “bad” guys, it’s always either or, but for this series I felt for BOTH sides because instead of the author completely writing the antagonist off as “bad” guys & OVERLY depicting them as 100% unbearable to the point you almost don’t want to finish the book, to guarantee that readers won’t question hating them. This series gave a more in-depth view to the antagonist, more realism in a sense. This descriptiveness, I felt like I was IN ANCETOL!! And I like the twist on enemies to lovers, because Kaito & Reina went from friends to enemies to friends to seemingly enemies to lovers. It sorta has a bully vibe at the very beginning but it all comes into accord, even has little lovers triangle. I LOVED the supporting characters. Brittni is now one of my favorite authors!!🫶🏽 This series is GOOD read, funny moments, realism!!!, romance, adventure & FAE!!

A new author for me, so I wasn’t sure what to expect really but this book was really enjoyable.
The Strong and the Stolen, book three in the Gifted Fae Academy series begins two years after the ending of book two and things have drastically changed. The once powerful Fae have almost all left the city, and a virus has spread that has taken away the powers of the gifted. When Kaito finds himself once again a free man, his only thoughts are of Reina. Along with his new friends, Wolfe and Yanis, Kaito makes his way to his childhood home where he begins his search for the only girl he’s ever loved. Along the way we meet up with old friends from the previous books, and an epic battle of Fae vs Villain is fought. The ended was a little sad since I really hoped for a different path for our star-crossed lovers, but it was a great series.
I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

In a twisted reality, it is two years after Kai is imprisoned for his crimes. The world they knew through the Fae, collapsed. The Fae had left and only a handful was still around to protect the innocents. As Kia contemplates different scenarios that occurred, all the prisoners, including him find freedom. It is DT walking around! He cannot believe it…how is he alive! He wants the prisoners' votes so he can become the new chairman. Reina finally has a run-in with him and hits him…she knows he is still evil and is planning something. They have to try and discover how the Fae lost their powers. Reina and her friends will come together to fight in a final battle giving it everything they have…but what will happen? Who will die and stay alive? How will their world be after the final battle? I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

A fantastic end of the story! A little bit predictable, but don't I always see what's coming? :D
I really like how each character has grown and changed. It was so dynamic and tense at some points it had me almost screaming. I loved that absolutely everything that happens has a fully logical explanation. Although, I think it would be better if there was some more time passing and doing stuff.

This was a surprisingly fun read for me, i didn´t really expect to like it as much as i did. It was fast paced, but not too much, just enough that you didn´t get bored nor did you feel like it needed to be longer in certain parts. The story was very interesting and the magic system was definitely unique from all the others i´ve read before. I really liked the characters and their developement throughtout the books. I liked that it wasn´t repetitive which a lot of books seem to be. It felt like a completely unique story and i haven´t read anything like this before. The book has everything anyone could want - humor, great characters, romance, action, great world building and just a smidge of spice lol.

It is amazing how much the characters have grown and the world has changed in ways that make it unrecognizable from the beginning of the first book. Things that once seemed so important have fallen to the wayside as they face unprecedented challenges and are forced to make decisions with world changing consequences. They have a vision from a seer - but seeing isn't always the same as understanding. More a love story that the previous two books, this final installment brings together all the pieces in a way that is unexpected, yet very satisfying. Death, loss, and re-round purpose all play a role in this thrilling series conclusion.

You couldn’t ask for a better ending to this book and series.
Reina is desperately searching for Bri still, Kai is in prison for life and neither can move on.
One day a blast from Kai’s past shows up at the prison. DT is alive but how? Just as shocking is he is masquerading as a serf and running for Council Head. The Fae have fallen and ungifted are taking over. Calvin aka DT releases all the prisoners and Kai returns home with 2 fellow inmates.
Ancetol is falling and can Reina, Kai and crew save it from evil.
The characters are amazing and the romance between Reina and Kai is really heating up.

I loved the ending. I really felt bad for the ones who lost their abilities though! I guess I was hoping they would all get theirs back when DT lost his. I was glad to see everyone come together in the end and work together! I enjoyed the narrators. I thought they did a really good job with the story and characters. One thing I will say is that I love that the author puts these on YouTube for her readers. I think for me though I prefer audible. YouTube for me is difficult to listen to and I have to constantly find my place every time I go to listen and the commercials are annoying! Overall it was a great series and one you should def listen to!
