Rate this book
This dynamic graphic novel is based on the Big Nate animated series. Starring Nate, Francis, Dee Dee, Teddy, and friends, these hilarious escapades will thrill longtime Big Nate fans as well as new readers. It's Big Nate like you've never seen him before!

When it comes to making mischief, Nate Wright's in a class by himself. Whether he's pranking his sister with fluorescent toothpaste or giving the school yearbook an unauthorized glow-up, Nate's genius for trickery always earns straight As.

Based on the hit Big Nate TV show on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon, Big Prank You Very Much features stories from two shorts and two complete episodes. In "The Pimple of Power," a honkin’ zit on Nate’s forehead unexpectedly becomes the most miraculous good luck charm in school history. In “Time Disruptors,” Nate and his pals channel a legendary team of superheroes to rescue Francis from the clutches of P.S. 38’s obnoxious archrival, Jefferson Middle School. Two short stories showcase Nate’s unmatched prank-pulling flair along with his hilarious response to a school picture day gone horribly wrong.

Combining the animated series’s full-color artwork with the hand-drawnillustrations  so familiar to fans of Big Nate comics, Prank You Very Much packs a serious comic punch!

Big Nate Prank You Very Much is a tie-in to the animated series and includes stories from two shorts and two complete episodes. The first story is called "How to Pull a Proper Prank" and involves seven of Nate's infamous pranks including atomic sit-ups, some leaping frogs and even one where he switches out his sister's toothpaste for one that is glow-in the dark florescent green. While I'm not a fan of pulling pranks on people, I think this story will appeal to readers who enjoy the Nate series. I am glad that the message of "if you dish it out, you've got to be ready to take it" was included.

In "The Pimple," Nate wakes up with a honker of a zit smack dab in the center of his forehead. Concerned that popping it will make it ten times worse, Nate tries to camouflage himself and goes to school. Instead of being grossed out by his zit, everyone wants to touch it and soon Nate is seen as the cool mature kid whose zit grants everyone their wish. However, in an unfortunate twist, Nate's lucky pimple has unforeseen consequences for those wish seekers and soon everyone is out to pop that zit. Okay, having a pimple as a kid was pretty traumatic and stressful, but there is no way anyone would want to touch it, that's just gross. I get the not wanting everyone to see it and feeling like it's this huge blemish on your face, but this story just went into a whole weird new direction for me.

In "Picture Day," Nate hashes a plan to break into the yearbook office and correct everyone's pictures, hoping to make this year's picture day a success with some clever touchups. I quite enjoyed Nate's remakes and found this story to be such fun. "Time Disrupters" involves a costume ball celebrating a school year with no students lost to homeschooling. The theme, "The Legend of the Homeschool Corn Girl." Nate and his friends begin working on designing their costumes while Francis is sent by the principal to tutor a girl from their rival school, Jefferson Middle School. With Francis acting squirrely and trying to evade talks about the dance, Nate vows to discover what his friend is hiding. Again, this is a fun story that sees Francis singing a song about charter schoolgirl and has an appearance from the legendary Corn Girl that has everyone spooked.

These Tv series graphic novels will surely appeal to middle graders who enjoy the Paramount + animated television series or readers who get the humor of the original graphic novels or are fans of Nate's hilarious escapades and his tendency to land himself in trouble. Each of the stories features the full color CG artwork from the animated television series with a sprinkling of Nate's original black and white comic book illustrations. Surely a hit for reluctant readers who are looking for a humorous story or for fans of the original Big Nate comics.

Sticking to the exciting flair of the Nickelodeon series, two adventures make sure Nate and his friends never near the realm of boredom.

After becoming a Big Nate mini-fan, I was excited to dive into this newest edition. I have not, yet, seen too much of the Nickelodeon series, which meant that this graphic novel form was still a little unfamiliar. Unlike the rest of the Big Nate graphic novels, this book (and it's predecessor, book one) leave the traditional, well-known format and let the new series come in. The graphics align with the show and carry that animated direction, rather than the traditional illustrations. As a fan of the originals, this caught me a little off-guard, but I have no doubt that those who know the series will settle right in and enjoy the familiarity right away.

Pranks abound in the first part of this book and carry all of Nate's ridiculous antics as well as the wonderful reactions of his friends. This newer format does add a new dimension thanks to the colors and slightly more realistic scenes. The emotions come across clearly, letting the humor fly. Instead of darting through many, various situations as in the traditional books, this one centers around two main tales. These play out smoother than the traditional form and remind of watching the show. The word bubbles play on top, giving the right amount of text to balance with each moment.

Imagination mixes with humor and more realistic situations to create ridiculous moments...and carry some things readers can connect to. The pimple tale is easy for many to relate to and pray they never have that horrible of a zit (this more graphic illustration form made it truly gross). And the superhero tale with the self-made costumes was also more than smile-worthy. Plus, it was hard not to hope the 'heroes' made it through. The read was easy, the adventures fun, and it even hits home just a little bit.

Nate's antics are hilarious as always and his friends round everything off well. There's tons of humor and lots of heart. I do see fans of the show enjoying this quite a bit but also believe fans of the original series might not be as drawn in quite as much. Either way, its a fun read. I received a DRC and enjoyed getting to re-meet this fun crew.

This is based off the Big Nate show they made and wow it completely disrespected the original comics.
Not even close to funny like the comic strips and book series. Plus of course they had to go out of it's way to promote gay characters that aren't even in the original series. And it totally made fun of homeschoolers which was completely random and annoying.
As an enjoyer of Big Nate I feel betrayed, lol.

As soon as I saw the book say now on tv I decided to check it. Glad I did because it’s nothing like the old Nate the greats my family loved. Stick to the originals. Because each family has different things they are okay with their kids reading I will share This one has a female teacher introduce her wife to a student and then the student gown excitedly sliding down a rainbow. Also not a fan of This one taking jabs at children that are homeschooled.

Like Destined for Awesomeness, this book is a graphic novel retelling utilizing television show stills based on the novels which continue the story of characters from Peirce's comic strip.

Let that sink in just a moment.

That said, I had this sitting at the circulation desk, and had to fend off children who saw it and wanted to grab it immediately. While they aren't familiar with the comic strip in the newspaper (which debuted in 1991), they do love the collections of strips and the novel series. A surprising number of them are familiar with the Paramount Plus series, which I have never seen. While I'm not a fan of the television stills as graphic novels, my students would read War and Peace if it cast Big Nate in the leading role.

Nate is a much more relatable character than other protagonists of Notebook Novels; he means well, is egocentric in the particular way that middle school aged children are, and pursues his own agendas, but he isn't mean. I love Peirce's sense of humor, and while I find Mrs. Godfrey more relatable, can appreciate all of the scrapes and antics in which Nate embroils himself. I did find it a little unusual that DeeDee show up to a substitute teacher's house and is invited in for tea, and there's a more evil undercurrent to some of the story lines that has appeared in the novels or comic strip, but this will be popular with the legions of Big Nate fans. This would make an excellent gift, along with a tube of flourescent tooth paste, and maybe some zit cream. (Sadly, the tooth paste seems to be fictional. I was going to get some for my brother!)

A book!!!

I like this book because it ha the same humor as the original comics and things are very detailed, although sometimes it can get too detailed. I like how sometimes actual photos are added in. I recommend this book for kids around 9. (I say this as a 12 year old)

ENJOY!!!

Four short stories featuring Nate Wright, and his pals. Nate gives the skinny on how to pull the perfect prank. Nate's pimple takes over his face, and PS 38. Nate saves his friends from the indignity of school picture day, and finally PS.38 has their very first school dance.

It was a very good book except for the corn girl story. Nate and his friends in the corn girl story weren’t that bright because they couldn’t see that Francis was asked by Principal Nicole’s to help tutor. Gina Templeton’s Tom in the book is jealous of Francis.

I wish there was more actual big Nate books, but I’ll take what I can get. The end storyline was kinda meh. That school though... I guess it’s another way to get profit after making the show

Kids were enjoying these books until my 8 year old started to ask me about sex , gay and lesbian content. This is not content I approve for my 8 year old. Parents beware.

We have liked the series until this one. There are some adult themes that have no business in a children’s book.
