Rate this book
When Cardinal Wolsey rises to the top, there's only one way he can fall!

England, 1520. Thomas Wolsey has just staged the most magnificent event of the century and his reputation as a statesman has never been greater. He has kings and emperors hanging on his every word and can be forgiven for believing the world is his for the asking.

But this is an illusion soon shattered. The European peace he hoped for is destroyed as foreign monarchs commit acts of aggression against one another, while at home, King Henry VIII is having a crisis of conscience that threatens the very stability of his realm.

Henry fears England will descend into civil war when he dies. He desperately needs a son and looks to Thomas to help him get one.

Thomas has a new secure Henry's divorce from Katherine of Aragon so he can marry his new love, Anne Boleyn.

But Thomas struggles to deliver the king's great matter, and Henry is growing impatient at the delay. He's ready to listen to Thomas's enemies who claim the cardinal is deliberately stalling.

Time is running out. The sharks are closing in.

Thomas must get the divorce, or risk losing not only the king's love, but his life.

Wolsey

This was a very enjoyable trilogy. Ms. Dowers has done an excellent job of research and story of cardinal Wolsey. I do feel bad for him but at the same time you reap what you sow. The portrayal of Anne Boylen was as I expected. Even though I’m not an expert and I wasn’t there I can see that she was vindictive and a horrid power hungry woman, but at the same time I ask myself if I’m being fair to her. I really enjoyed these books and look forward to what Ms. Dowers will write about next.

**Laura Dowers “Forsaken” (The Thomas Wolsey trilogy (book 3)**

The last book of the trilogy portrays Thomas Wolsey as getting older and more disillusioned about the king although still firmly holding political reins.
Gradually as the king matures and strives to hold all the power by himself, Wolsey tries hard to still anticipate and provide solutions for all tasks set before him. Except the last one, the annulment of the marriage with Katherine of Aragon, the task that became an impenetrable wall between the King and the Cardinal.
And one viper to add her poison to king’s ear, sworn to vengeance.
Heartbreaking scenes of Wolsey’s last days and the king still demanding money from the dead cardinal...

Well written Trilogy on one of the prime Movers and Shakers of Henry the Eighth’s rule!! Fact and fiction are so intricately woven in these three volumes of historical fiction of the Tudor age that you almost live through the events that took place then!!! Thoroughly enjoyed reading them!!!
