The Crown's Wolves #2

Under a Wicked Moon

Rate this book
They are the ultimate weapon. The ultimate secret. They are the Crown’s wolves.

Lycan Ky Lanzo is bound by the Crown’s command. His latest mission directive was deceptively simple. Get yourself caught. Now, Ky’s been bound, drugged, and collared by an unknown enemy in a facility that knows enough about him to neutralize his lycan strength and his telekinetic magic. But he’s not alone in his cell. Because there’s someone else with him. Someone exquisite. Someone altogether forbidden…

For Vivi Kinley, another month gone by means another full moon trapped in a cell with a moon-crazed lycan. There once was a time I’d never kill a living creature. Only, Ky is different. He’s powerful, latently sexy…and wanting him is dangerous trouble. Because sexual attraction is exactly what their captors want—and it’ll be an icy day in hell before she’ll allow it.

Now, Vivi and Ky have one chance at escape and to discover what twisted organization did this to them—and make them pay. The good news is that Ky might have found his near-impossible lycan mate. The bad news is that she might be programmed to kill them all…

The The Crown’s Wolves series is best enjoyed in order.

I took my sweet sweet time finishing this book! I swear I have a good reason... So it all begins with being a mood reader™ with the attention span of a gold fish. I started this and then another *much* shiner book caught my attention. Then I decided to reread a monster of a series. And now it's been over 2 months so I finally found my way back to this book. #Oops

Now that I'm back I can say that I really liked this one! The overall plotline is very interesting and I'm very much on the edge of my seat wanting to uncover all the mysteries and all the answers! I loved that the romance plot was just as important as the adventure.

The couple was so cute together! The second half was more of a will they/won't they kind of situation but I'm glad it all worked out (as much as it can at this point in the story)! I'm looking forward to the next book in this series and I'm lowkey hoping for Colin to get a book (I wish I may I wish I might 🥺) ♡

So I thought this book was the first book in a series but it turns out it’s actually the second book in The Crown’s Wolves series. Oops. It turned out okay though since it read perfectly fine as a stand-alone even though there were a few loose ends that I am sure will be picked up again later in the series. I found this to be a delightful read and was hooked by the story right away. Ky and Vivi were great characters and I was eager to see how things would work out for them.

Ky and Vivi were both held captive and kept under the influence of others. They formed a lasting connection while in a very bad situation and drew strength from each other. They really were perfect for each other and seemed to be exactly what the other needed. Ky and his brothers make quite the team and I thought it was great to see them work together. The story had quite a bit of action in addition to the romance and I loved the fact that the story took a few turns that I didn’t see coming.

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance. The romance in the book was really solid and I really liked the characters from the start. I thought that the magic system was very well done and somewhat unique. Now that I have read this book, I want to go back and tackle the first book in the series. I will definitely be looking out for more of this author’s work in the future.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

"Shoot them if they didn't bring the chocolates." I think this shall be my greeting I call out as guests enter my home. What a brilliant line.

Zoe Forward has simply amazed me with this second book in The Crown Wolves series. I prefer Under A Wicked Moon. It moved along at a more rapid pace and the charism and steam between Ky and Vivi is mind blowing. Vivi is such a beautiful character. So strong, so much wanting to not be what her captors are trying to break and make her into. Ky is trying so hard to resist Vivi. But their captors are breaking him physically. If his brothers don't rescue them will they get out? How much longer can he resist Vivi on a full moon nights.

Ky and Vivi's story is so lovely. These brothers are so devoted to each other and to those they protect. Will Vivi become one of those they protect? Read and find out.

**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy that I voluntarily read and reviewed. All opinions and thoughts in the review are my own.**

Under a Wicked Moon by Zoe Forward is the first book in her new Crown of Wolves series. We meet our hero, Ky Lanzo, who is bound to the Crown’s command, along with his brothers, Roman and Flynn. They are cursed to be the Crown’s weapons, to destroy all enemies. Ky was sent on a mission by himself, only to be captured by Germans; being drugged and forced to wear a collar, which takes away his strength. When he wakes up, he realizes there is another person in the cell with him.

Vivi Kinley, our heroine, has been trapped in the cell for a long time. She sees Ky, who just arrived, and senses that the villains seem to want them to bond together, especially sexually. But Vivi will not allow that, nor does Ky, though he is attracted to her. Neither understands why they are there, and quickly learn that Vivi has been locked up for two years. Ky, whose head is messed up due to the drugs, realizes that Vivi is being brainwashed to do commands that require to kill.

After a couple of months, Ky’s brothers rescue him and Vivi, and quickly they escape. We learn that Vivi’s sister, whom she thought was dead, is in fact alive, and mated to Roman. The family worries how dangerous Vivi is, since she is programmed to respond to a command; the fear is will she attempt to kill them, since she is not in control. Ky knows he cannot act on his feelings for Vivi, but has a difficult time since he knows she may be his mate, but is she safe?

It was great to see the family together, trying fight off the enemies, including possible internal enemies of the Crown. I liked how Vivi and her sister, Nova slowly respond to each other, despite their memories being removed. I also loved Ky and Vivi together. To say too much more would be spoilers, but the last half of the book was very exciting and entertaining.

Under a Wicked Moon was exciting through most of the book, with non-stop action, great characters, and a world filled with secrets, enemies, monarch, gods, angels and lots of battles. Under a Wicked Moon was so very well written by Zoe Forward. I cannot wait for the next book in the Crown of Wolves series.

UNDER A WICKED MOON is the second book in The Crown's Wolves series. Roman and Nova started the series; Vivi and Ky continued it. We start off with Ky going undercover - alone. He knows his brothers will be slightly miffed as they've always agreed to never go it alone. However, when the douchebag - sorry, I mean, the monarch - gives an order, Ky has no option but to do as he is told. There, he meets Vivi. The attraction is instantaneous but, being as the humans appear to want them to breed, both Vivi and Ky are determined to fight it every step of the way. It gets more complicated once they escape, moving the story along in leaps and bounds.

I thoroughly enjoyed book one, and book two is no different. I love these brothers, how they are so different in so many ways, and yet loyalty runs strong and true amongst them all. You get more hints at another brother, which I am also loving. Of course, you know it's not going to be easy for Vivi and Ky but I never realised just how hard. Oh, my poor heart got pummelled!

However, it was a brilliant read, keeping my attention from the first word to the last. I am loving how this story is moving and changing, even though the monarch doesn't appear to change at all. Jerk! I'm guessing it will be Shane's turn next, but whether it's him or Flynn, I'll be happy either way.

A great addition to the series that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Quick Summary: A hot and bothered paranormal action romance

My Review: Under a Wicked Moon by Zoe Forward is book 2 in The Crown's Wolves series.

About the Book: This book was filled with everything you can imagine in para-fantasy fiction.

Strong Protagonists ✔
Unlikable Characters ✔
Action ✔
Drama ✔
Conflict ✔
Tension ✔
Chemistry ✔
Love/HEA ✔
Epilogue ✔

My Final Say: With so much going on, it made the story that much more fascinating. If I had it to do again, I would have started with the first book in the series. I think it would have helped me to better appreciate the who and what of it all. Nevertheless, this story does not disappoint. For those readers who want a little flash and a little flesh with their story, this one is for you.

A very different paranormal romantic suspense
In which the atmosphere is always tense.
It starts with a prison where
There are experiments on a special pair.

Two lycans are trapped in a cell.
With collars on to ensure they do as their captors tell.
There's attraction between them but it is too soon -
Can they resist the call of the moon?

A story with lycans, vampires and magic, too
As the cursed brothers resent being told what to do.
Especially when those orders seem to be
Leading them to dangers as you'll see.

An enthralling read as the story unfolds
With brothers - and sisters - proving so bold.
Though there is more than one romance
You're not sure if one will be given a chance.

A story full of unexpected surprises and so
It is one I highly recommend you also give it a go!
For my complementary copy of this book I give a huge thank you.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.

*None of these were graphically depicted in my opinion but use your best judgement to keep yourself safe when reading.

Ky is a lycan male trapped in service to the Crown of England. In his most recent mission, he is told to be captured in order to get intel on this secret facility. Only after his capture, does he realize that the mission isn't that simple and that there is more to the tempting lycan female, Vivi, he shares his cell with than meets the eye. As they work to trust each other and to escape, the truth of what was done to them comes to light. Ky and Vivi must decide if they can survive freedom together when they barely trust themselves.

I loved the protective nature of Ky towards Vivi without being controlling or treating her with kid gloves. He put her needs and desires before his own from the very beginning. Vivi is a strong heroine with a soft heart. I loved that she wouldn't have chosen any of the things that happened to her, but would dust herself off and fight for what she believed in. Their fast development of feelings for one another could have felt rushed, but the balance between the paranormal/fated-mates elements and action events allowed the relationship to feel realistic (even including a reasonable amount of skepticism).

This was my first Zoe Forward novel and I have to say that I was captivated by the world that she had created. In her author's note, Zoe Forward mentions that she merges genres together and that is definitely true in this fast-paced mix of a blockbuster action movie and a swoony paranormal romance. Normally, I would not jump into the middle of a series, but the concept utterly captivated me. I could not wait to pick up this book long enough to start at the beginning of the series. That being said, I strongly recommend starting at the beginning of the series. The plot has several aspects that tie over from the first book and an overarching plot line. Plus, what I saw of Roman and Nova was absolutely gold and I want to read their story as soon as possible. But I was able to jump into the middle of the story with minimal confusion.

I will say that Zoe Forward's writing style did take a little bit to get used to. She tends to use long sentences and lots of prepositional phrases (which is something that I tend to do so I noticed it in the book).

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Under a Wicked Moon is the second title in The Crown’s Wolves series, and it is just as hard-hitting emotionally as Bad Moon Rising was for me… and that one gutted me before putting me back together with an amazing romance. So, I was already in love with this series before even opening Under a Wicked Moon.

Most of what you’d want to know before picking up this book can be found in the Cover Description. To say much more would definitely involve spoilers, and this couple’s story deserves to toss out the unexpected at each reader.

Ky’s assignment is basically to get himself caught so that he can learn what exactly is happening within this organization. Unfortunately, he managed to do that far too well and is now trapped, experimented upon, and has his abilities blocked. He’s also in a cell with another person… and it’s pretty obvious what these so-called scientists want to observe (or so he thought).

Vivi is an amazing character; she’s so strong and fighting so hard not to give her captors what they want from her. But with Ky’s arrival, she’s fighting not only the instincts that her captors have programmed into her, but her own natural longing for a man she knows is her life mate. She’ll continue to refuse to give them the results they want, but it’s so difficult not to melt into her mate’s arms. (even if she doesn’t completely understand what Ky is to her yet)

There are unexpected connections and surprises in Under a Wicked Moon. So much so that I’m simply going to say that I loved the romance of this story; the couple is hot and sexy, dangerous and lethal, and so perfect for each other. The villains here are particularly vile, and the danger level is extremely high. I loved every moment of being back in this world, and I definitely hope for another story in The Crown’s Wolves series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

This book was really great but I wish I had listened to the caption that said read the series in order, because a lot had happened in the previous book and at some places I had a hard time following the premise of this book, the world building and who was dead or alive and how it had happened.

Despite my initial stupidity I was very much enthralled by the story and the romance in this paranormal adventure and I couldn’t put the book down. I had to know how it was all going to play out.

The main story is about four lycan brothers who are cursed to fight for the monarch of England. They can only answer to him and they are sent on really horrible assignments to protect the humans.
If lycans has magical powers and use them they are executed if found out but these four brothers are allowed to use their powers because they only answer to the monarch. They are also not allowed to be romantically involved because it affects their performance in the field if it happens the loved ones are executed.
The further you get into the story the more you figure out that something is really wrong and the four brothers are hunted wild and their loved ones are not safe at all. Who can they trust and how will they survive?

All the characters were really great and fascinating and I loved that they fight for their freedom to decide what they want from life who they want to fight for and with and who they want to be with.

I can definitely recommend this book but just be aware of the violence, the manipulation of the brain, the death, there is also a bombing of a church and innocent people are involved, amnesia(though chosen) and some talk of God and angels. Just remember to read the first book before this one so you get all of the premise of the series.

I got this book from Entangled publishing and Netgalley and this is my honest opinion and my voluntary review.

This is Ky Lanzo and Vivi's story, the second in the series, although you can read it as a standalone, I recommend reading the previous ones to enjoy it more. The story is about Ky being captured and put in a cell with Vivi, they both need to resist temptation, but there is more outside of that cell that prevents Ky brother's to rescue him, yet so much going on in the story that you will be enjoying every chapter, there is betrayal, secrets, a lot of mysteries, magic, etc. If you love PNR then this story is for you.

This is the first book that I have read from Zoe Forward, so obviously I did not read book 1. I really wish that series authors would put a prologue in the books, not only for readers who did not read the first one, but also for those who did, but have read so many books in between that they don't remember a lot of the details. Nevertheless, I very much enjoyed the book. It reminds a lot of Sandra Hill's Vangels series. Handsome, powerful brother alphas, under the control of someone else. The vangels were control by the angel Michael, here by the Monarch of England, in an alternative world (but Michael makes an appearance here too). Lycans are different according to the imagination of the author, which is ok, since they are fictional beasts anyway.

In this series, 4 ancient lycans (not werewolves) have been enslaved by a witch's curse to work for the King of England, but there is intrigue, back stabbing and nastiness (kinds of like what is going on with the FBI these days). Ky, the second oldest brother is forced to surrender to a group of humans who are experimenting on lycans. There he meets Viviennne, who has been held in the facility for years. They bond, but fight against the full moon. They are finally rescued by Ky's brothers, but neither one is right in the head. Have them been brainwashed? Is the link between Ky and Vivi real or manipulated? Who is trying to assented the brothers?

Like the vangels, I love these characters, the banter between the brothers and the adventure. I hope to catch up with the first book and read the ones to come later. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is book 2 in the Crown's Wolves and while it could be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the first book before this one as those events lead into this one. In this one we get Ky Lanzo's story. Ky has been ordered by the crown to be caught. But now he is drugged and collared while being taken to a secret facility. One that knows enough about Lycan's to know his strength's and weaknesses. But he isn't alone. Vivi Kinley knows that when another month goes by, it means that another moon crazed Lycan will be trapped in the cell with her. There used to be a time when she had never hurt anyone, but not anymore. But Ky is different. She is attracted to him, and that is dangerous because that is exactly what their jailers want. And she refused to do what they want her to do. But when Vivi and Ky escape and realize what this organization wants with them-can they survive?

I absolutely loved this story! Ky and Vivi are strong people at their core. They have been through the worst thing that can happen to someone and still have made it out the other side, even if it has changed them. But it also forged this connection between them that I loved. Especially when you realize exactly what happened to Vivi. I wasn't expecting some things that happen in this book, but it made it that much better! There are a lot of twists and turns in this one, but then there were in the first as well-and I loved every bit of it! I can't wait to see where the next book takes us in this series, but I know wherever it goes-it will be great!

This is the second book in The Crown's Wolves series. It is better read in order but can be read as a stand alone.
Ky is ordered to be captured and taken into custody to figure out what is going on. He has little other knowledge, not by whom or what. When he is put into a cell, he is not alone. Vivi, another lycan, is there and it happens to be a full moon. Full moons mean they should not be able to control their desires. Against all odds, they do but not without being punished. The two are routinely put together in hopes they will mate. When they fail to mate, their punishments include being jolted and drugged which results in losing periods of time in their memory. It is up to Ky's brothers to save them and help destroy whoever captured them.
Opinion
I love paranormal books. While vampires are my favorites, werewolves come a close second. I stumbled on this author when the first book was released. I knew, after finishing it, that I would need to read the whole series. Forward has a way of writing that compels me to finish. I often take breaks between chapters (because lets face it, I can read a book in a day.) With this book however, I found myself reading five or six chapters before I needed to rest my eyes or divert attention.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves werewolves, paranormal or action romances. You will not be disappointed.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book.

Who Can They Trust?

Ky Lanzo was a Lycanthrope and was on a mission, his orders had been to let himself be captured. Things went horribly wrong, he was captured but all his gifts were taken from him and he was drugged and subdued then put into a room with a female Lycan called Vivi who had also been experimented on. They both had to fight hard to resist the attraction on the full moon to mate which is what their captures were looking for.

Finally after one of their attempts to escape, he managed to get a signal sent to one of his brothers, who then proceeded to rescue them both. Ky and his brothers had been cursed to protect the King but things we’re not as they seemed and betrayal was happening everywhere. Who could be trusted?

What an action packed story which kept me engrossed throughout and I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. It’s not my normal type of read but I have to say it was brilliant. There is so much going on from finding love, betrayal, magic, secrets, gods, it kept you engrossed until the end. I’m really looking forward to the next adventure within the series.

This is the first time I’ve read from this author and I would recommend reading this book if you’re into paranormal reads with a difference.

There seems to be a theme here that has nothing to do with the plot...

I really like this series, I like the characters, I like the world building and the take on “wolves” is unique. The only real issue I have with both this book and Bad Moon Rising is that the story line lost me near the end. I’m not sure if it’s because that there really is an issue or if there is just so much happening that I got lost. Whatever the reason and regardless of my confusion, I’m still enjoying the wild ride this author has been taking readers on so far.

Under a Wicked Moon isn’t a very easy book to read. The cards are stacked totally agains Vivi and Ky from the moment that they meet. It’s honestly hard to figure out how they’ll finally reach their HEA and even by the end, things are far from over for either them or Roman and Nova – or any of the brothers really.

There were lots of twists, turns and crazy revelations. Almost too many to keep track of. The one thing I’m sure of is that there is much more to come and I can’t wait to get to know the rest of the Crown’s Wolves and their allies better as the series continues.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of Under a Wicked Moon. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I read the first book in this series, Bad Moon Rising, and liked it enough to read the second book - even though this book had the same type of grammatical & editing errors as the same. The author claims she has editors and writing groups so how on earth is some of this stuff getting past multiple people?

I'd classify the first book as mildly spicy, so I was disappointed when this book had zero spice, not even one sex scene! There was lots of sexual tension, but it goes nowhere. I was pretty bummed after all that Ky & Vivi went through that they didn't even get their HEA, just the vague promise of one, I'm assuming, in the next book. I hated how the author used the same trope (memory loss) on Vivi as she did on her sister in the first book, and everyone seems to have some magical powers but they don't get to use them very much. Seems odd to me.

I did buy the third book because I do like the storyline and the characters but I'm hoping that the author ties up some lose ends from the first two books and goes back to the same level of spice as the first book. We shall see.

This one was intense! Please read the first book in the series, there's a lot of background there regarding the brothers and the sure that keeps them in service of the crown. Because these two are held in captivity, they resist the attraction they feel so the tension and angst are intense.

Ky is sent on a solo mission. He's to let himself get caught. They place a collar on him and inject him with something that dampens his powers. When he's taken to his cell he knows he's not alone. She smells amazing but he keeps his distance.

Vivi has spent month after month in captivity, and here she is again being thrown in with a moon-crazed lycan. He's different from the others they've thrown in with her. He's powerful and very attractive. Something that their captors would mind exploiting.

Now they must work together to figure out a way to escape and make this organization pay for everything they've endured. But there are a few twists we learn along the way.

I can't wait to see what happens next!

Thank you so much to the author, Entangled and NetGalley for this ARC to review.

Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC. I am leaving this voluntary review, willingly.

Ky is a Lycan, an assassin, and he’s old (well in human years). He’s also cursed. Cursed to serve the crown until they deem it otherwise.

Part of his curse requires him to follow their every order, currently being captured and held hostage by mad scientists who introduce him to Vivi. Another Lycan who’s been there much longer.

There’s secrets, mages, powers, gods, angels. There’s so much jam packed in to this book that it was hard for me to read. It’s quite long as well, but I feel like it could be broken in to pieces and more time taken on each piece.

It’s a decent read, if you’ve got the time and ability to build the world in your head.

Lycan,  Ky Lanzo hates everything about his latest mission,  but because of a curse on himself and his brothers,  he has no choice but to obey. Our hero is going to get a very rough ride on this mission and will often doubt that it will be possible to survive.

Lycan, Vivi Kinley has no idea how long she has been in captivity.  The things her captors do to her have messed with her mind so much.

This is the second book in this paranormal romance series.  You don't need to have read the first to enjoy this, but personally I think it would be better.  That way you find out more about the brothers who are "The Crown's Wolves". The characters are magical and incredibly strong.  Lots of danger and some steamy moments,  all go towards making this a fascinating story.

I loved it.

Zoe Forward was an unknown author to me, but the cover and the blurb got me curious Lycan’s (or any kind of shapeshifting kind) are one of my favorite characters, so I dove right in. But although I had read a lot of different werewolf stories, this one certainly stands out. In this case, the Lycan’s are used as experiments. By humans. Well, that is certainly a twist you don’t see too often. The gloom and doom factor was also a bit higher than usual. Was it good? Definitely. Was it my cup of tea? Not totally, but I still would recommend it, if you like paranormal fantasy with a little bite in it. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc

I was going to write my own summary of this book but the blurb really sums it up too well for me to try and replicate it.

There was a lot going on in this book; mystery, magic, action, spicy romance. I enjoyed the characters, especially Ky’s brothers. The middle of the book got a little confusing for me and was a little slow. I didn’t realize this was the second book in a series, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of it.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and this is my honest review. (For Amazon)

This book was interesting. It had a good storyline and lots of little strange tidbits added to keep things interesting. The different species all together in this book was very interesting. I wasn’t expecting such a wide variety, but I enjoyed it. The book did not end on a cliffhanger, so I was happy about that. It definitely had a good story line and I’m really looking forward to seeing where things lead for the all the main characters.

Under a Wicked Moon is the second book in The Crown Wolves Series and I must say it is just as good if not better than the first book Bad Moon Rising. Under a Wicked Moon opened with a blast and kept on rolling. Once I picked up Under a Wicked Moon there was no way I could put it down until I read every word.

All I wanted to know was Ky’s and Vivi’s fate. I wanted to know why they were locked up in that cell together. I had to know who put them there and why? I had to know if they were ever going to get out. Was help coming? Or were they going to have to find a way to escape all on their own? If so then how were they going to get out? And were they going to make it out alive?

The first book Bad Moon Rising told the story of Ky’s brother Roman and Vivi’s sister, Nova. Under a Wicked Moon tells Ky’s and Vivi’s stories. Vivi and Ky wake to find they’re locked in a cell with no way out that they can see right away. Vivi wants nothing more than to escape and find her sister Nova.

It doesn’t take Ky and Vivi long to figure out why they were put in the same cell alone together. Whoever has taken them hostage knows a lot about them like they know that it is their mating time. Ky and Vivi fight to mate as they know that is exactly what their captors want. But that is not going to be easy for either of them as their body's heat is turned way up.

I highly recommend Under a Wicked Moon to all paranormal creature fans! One-click your copy of Under a Wicked Moon today!

Did Not Finish

I love paranormal romance books and thought that this one would be right up my alley. Unfortunately, it fell short. I found that there was a lot going on in the plot and that made it hard to follow at times. I think if you like books that have intricate world building mixed with romance then I think you'll enjoy this series.

I really enjoyed this book and the storyline… the connection with the first book isn’t apparent at first but as the storyline grows so do the characters and the connection which I really enjoyed.. the plot is dramatic, with strong characters with an even better connections to one another. I really can’t wait till the next book!

This was another great entry for this enticing series. Vivi and Ky's story kept me invested and focused. Drama, emotion, twists, magic, action, mystery and heat make a decadent combination that was just irresistible. This is my volitional, forthright review.

Audiobook

Too long and repetitive.
A bit ridiculous and OTT.
The constant drama became boring.
The women start out strong in here but ends up a boohooing, dependent, Wailing loser.
Good potential though. A shame.
