I received this book as an ARC from the author in return for a fair and honest review.
Thank you Erika Harken for trusting me with you book.

Adam and Anna met in high school when they were paired on a project. Two opposites…a punk rock musician and an innocent Christian girl. Through the time they spent together they became close and developed a friendship with deeper feelings hinted but not acted on.

Seven years later Adam is a famous musician and Anna a talented fashion designer. Unfortunately Adam has fallen into the pitfalls being a famous punk rock star. Anna holds true to her faith and shows her inner strength. Adam finally finds his way and things move in the right direction.

This is a sweet love story without the spice. It will take you on an emotional journey of two young people coming of age. One stays true to herself and the other falls off course but finds his way back.

Looking forward to the sequel!

Thank you Erika Harken for giving me a copy of your story to read!

I really enjoyed being immersed in Anna and Adam's journey with them.  Hearing from both of their points of view helped enhance the struggles they were going through and made me sympothize with each of them for different reasons. Opposites attract and redeption are some of my favorite themes to read about. This story was quick and easy to read. An overall sweet and heartwarming story that was light but touched on some dark topics.  I would definitely recommend for a younger audience who enjoys a wholesome and clean romance.

One thing I struggled with was how accelerated everything seemed.  The main characters went from not liking each other to being in love within what felt like seconds. I know this is a new adult story, but I think drawing parts of the plot out would make the story more relatable for the reader. I think I just wanted more of their story and not a "fast" version.

All of the characters had flaws but you could connect with them in some way.  Anna I struggled with at first because she could come across as a bit judgemental or even preachy. By the end I came to understand a lot of that was frustration with a world that didn't seem to understand her.  She just wanted to be seen and in one way or another we all want that. She showed up when it really mattered and still stuck to her beliefs which is inspiring.

This book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This book is a clean (No Spice / No Language) contemporary romance novel

The first part of the book is set in highschool and it takes place over six weeks during their senior year.

Anna is a young girl who is a proud Christian and has never had a boyfriend. She worries about things that all girls do. Her grades, her future and of course, Prom. She is paired up with Adam in class for a project that they have to do together about a book. She has never interacted with him much before and writes him off as a bad boy/ smoker who is just lazing his way through life.

Adam and his band mates have dreams to make it big and move to California after Graduation. He is the stereotypical punk rocker who enjoys girls and smoking. When he is forced to partner with Anna, he sees a side of her that he never would have understood before. He pokes fun at her religion but starts to realize that maybe he just didn’t understand it.

Quickly, what started as misunderstanding and distrust turns into a highschool crush. It did set in a little quickly but honestly…. Didn’t all highschool crushes start the same way?

The book then hops to seven years later and Adam is a big rocker while Anna decided to follow her dream of fashion. Adam has taken the “Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll” a little too close to heart and is now deep in a drug called, Blue Magic. Suddenly, Anna is on his mind again and the past comes rushing back.

This book was a decent story and I think it shows how Christians ,the true ones, can be misunderstood or have assumptions placed on them due to a lack of understanding.

This book was a super cute romance about first love, second chances, and finding faith.

Adam and Alex are polar opposites and dislike each other until they get forced to be partners on a school project.  Adam is the bad boy rocker, and Anna is the good "Christian" girl, saving herself for marriage. They fall for each other and promise to keep in touch after graduation, but you know how that goes.  Fast forward 7 years, Adam is a big-time rock star with a drug addiction, and Anna is working in fashion.  Both are in LA, and they reconnect.  Can Anna be the light at the end of Adam's dark tunnel?

I really liked how the author developed the characters.  She kept Anna true to her faith even with all the pressures of society.  Adam is a true bad boy, but he is so patient with Anna. It's nice to see.

I would recommend this book, especially if you need a feel-good romance with a little drama😊

Genre: Christian Romance Fiction

Dual pov

Growth timeline

Enemies to lovers..then friends to lovers (you’ll see just read the book!)

TW: drug use (I have no idea if it’s a tw but i’m putting it out there)

“Do you know how many people give everything they have to someone and end up heartbroken when the breakup they never imagined happens? Come on, Anna, you know this.”

It all started in high school when Anna and Adam had to partner up for a school project. But all of a sudden they caught feelings for each other that her “enemy” Adams had to break up with his girlfriend 🫢 (ikr!!) But they only had like a couple of weeks left in high school. And Adam would be leaving Florida to LA ( and you know how long-distance gets). They go to prom together and at the end of high school they part. Fast forward years (years) later, Adam is now a famous musician (along with his friends). But you know what they say “Rock n roll, drugs and sex”. Literally. And Anna is still Christian (duh what were you thinking) and her faith only gets strengthened with age because she now knows what she wants. They get reunited again but everything is different. They are too different for each other. Anna battles internally because she still loves him and doesn’t want to lose him a second time but at the same time is she really ready to risk it all? Adam is also desperately in love with Anna but their lives are complete opposites, is he really willing to step out of his comfort to escape to make this work ? Well all I can say it gets messy (not literally in some ways but literally in other ways… 🤦) After the near death accident of one of them, how is it all going to end, how is christian girl and faithful believer, and a famous rockstar ever work?
I loved reading this. I loved how she had those internal thoughts and even conversations with Natalie and Bristol. I love how we get both perspectives in the subject matter of waiting. It really showed in real time how real the struggle can be in a world that has a different major belief than yours. But if it was meant to be. It will be. I loved how they both followed their dreams. Like the constant on and off in their relationship with other people and yet they still somehow came back to each other. I thought that was cute.
What didn’t I like? I have no idea(I can’t think of anything that bothered me…). But 😂I do have a question… What's wrong with a sheltered guy?
I really looked forward to reading other books from the author.

I recommend you read this book (if you haven’t) or check it out and make sure to add it to your tbr for that someday you’ll read it! ♥️

Lucid starts in high school, where Anna and Adam are polar opposites. Anna is a very religious girl, while Adam is sort of a bad boy in a rock band.

They have a class together, but mostly ignore each other, until they have to do a project together. They find out more about each other and actually start to like one another.

Anna was a bit too religious and goody two shoes for me (eventhough it's the theme of the book). I'm not a religious person, but I don't mind reading about it. But Anna was 18 years old, asking permission to go out dancing for a few hours, and putting fake dye in her hair and going dancing seemed like something forbidden and like a line she was crossing. That was just a bit too much for me.

I liked Adam though. He really wanted to have a successful band, and eventhough he was supposed to be portrayed as the bad boy rock player, he was just a sweet guy.

Now, the second part of the book is where I got more interested. The book skips to Adam and Anna being in their twenties, and they get back in touch after years of not having spoken. Adam's band has become successful and has just ended a world tour, and Anna has a career in fashion, which was something she dreamt about as a teenager.

The success of Adam's band has taken a toll on his life, and he has become an addict, but has a hard time admitting it.

Anna is saving herself for marriage, but reconnecting with Adam is bringing back old feelings that are putting her to the test.

It's an adult romance, but I think young adults could easily read this as well. It took me a bit to get in to it because of the religious side, but that's just me. The part where they were older made it more interesting to me, especially Adam's pov.

I just finished Erika Harken’s ARC for Lucid. Although not my typical genre, this was an amazing tale of innocence. The lead characters found themselves navigating through the difficulties of the modern world. One was struggling with the demands of success, choosing drugs as a coping mechanism and the other was faced with the difficulty of being a virgin at 25, and trying to explain her choice to her peers. Connecting first in high school, an opposites attract romance blossomed, but different life paths lead them in opposite directions. Reconnecting years later, their spark still lingered, waiting to burst into a flame. Their flame however was threatened to be extinguished as small lies threatened their romance. Harken’s character development comes full circle as Adam and Anna realize how much they mean to one another and how the power of prayer can get them through anything together. Most certainly a great read for anyone on the brink of adulthood. A very refreshing telling full of morals and life lessons that readers could find themselves faced with. I can’t wait for the sequel!

3.5 stars.
I really enjoy opposites attract and the rockstar/Christian girl angle was really intriguing as I hadn't read anything like that.
The first part of the book when they are in high school was really good. I feel like the author really took the time to develop them and how they came to like each other when they didn't really know each other. I would say that the first part of the second part of the story when they are reunited years later revealed two characters who had really changed a lot since the high school days.
The only issue I had was that the last third of the book seemed really rushed to me. A bit too much instalove given their time apart and how they reconnected. Didn't totally seem believable to me. However, I still really enjoyed the characters and the plot was very solid and interesting. I am still on board to read the next portion of their story as well.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book yesterday and while it’s not my normal genre of choice I have to say I truly enjoyed it. The romance between the two main characters Anna and Adam is a classic story of destiny that is wrong place, wrong time. First they connect in high-school after becoming partners for a project and realizing that they are more than just friends but since Adam is leaving to peruse his music career they don’t last past graduation. Fast forward seven years and their destiny’s intertwine again as Adam struggles with stardom and a drug addiction and Anna who is still steadfast in her faith and living her fashion dreams. They again can’t deny the strong feelings they have for one another and seemingly pick up right where they left off but now with adult issues they have to help each other through. I can’t wait to see what Erika Harken does with their story in book two!

You know how the story goes: Anna and Adam couldn't be more different- he's a rocker and she's a good Christian girl- but when they're forced together on an end of term school project, they surprisingly find more in each other than they expected.

Told in two parts- the last weeks of high school and 7 years later- Lucid is a sweet YA read of first loves and people struggling to find their place in their world. I thought the characters were well-written and well-developed where they could have come off as more one-dimensional. I really appreciated Anna's convictions and Adam's struggles and how tactfully the author walked the line between faith/non-believers while not being too preachy. Great for those looking for a quick, emotional, closed door romance read. I know the author will continue Anna and Adam's story and I am wishing for an HEA for these two soulmates. Or are they?

Anna and Adam had met in high school but they weren’t friends. He was a punk rocker and talented musician. Anna was a beautiful Christian girl, she was smart and had dreams of being a clothing designer. They were polar opposites but they had chemistry and they were so sweet together. So after they graduated they headed their separate way into their future. Seven years later Adam is a rockstar with all the rockstar clichés attached. She’s followed her dream and is a fabulous dress designer. They both think about the other and wonder if they’re happy. Adam is definitely a hot mess, Anna seems lonely but definitely in a better place. This story is sweet and romantic. I’m giving it four stars and recommend it.

Lucid is my first by author Erika Harken, and I look forward to reading more by this author.

Lucid follows the two MCs of Anna and Adam, starting in high school and continuing as adults. Erika sets the story with the two utterly opposite characters becoming friends. Anna is a Christian girl who is a virgin and is saving herself for marriage. And Adam is a rebel in a punk rock band who has just written a popular new song. A class assignment forces the two together, and a friendship grows into something more.

As adults, the two reconnect, but being a celebrity rocker has taken a toll on Adam, and he is now addicted and uses drugs to help get him through the challenging tour schedule. We the two reconnect, they discover the old feelings still exist, but can they both get past the secrets they tightly holding on to? Will their relationship survive the addictions and the lies?

The book was a bit slow for me until it got to adulthood. I was unable to really connect with either character, but I don’t find it unrelatable. While a good portion of the beginning of the book focused on getting to know the characters, I still felt like I needed more about them; we just scratched the surface of who they are. I didn’t get much angst from either of them. The book is considered a clean romance.

Thank you to Erika Harken for gifting me a digital ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was such a cute, fantastic, well written read. I fell in love with the characters of Adam and Anna hard and fast. Their flaws are perfect and their story is amazing.

The first 15% of the book or so I would say was a little slow starting. But I think it laid the basics down to allow a great flow for the rest of the book. It gave us insight into both characters and what made them who they are so we could later see what makes them great together.

I was rooting so hard for these characters the whole way through, through every struggle and every moment that seemed against them.

Thank you to the author for a free copy of this book!

This was such a sweet book. It held my attention, was well written and having you feel all the different emotions. This is a second chance, finding faith, clean romance told in the first person POV.

I loved that we got to see Anna and Adam in high school how they became enemies-to-friends. I love that we get to see them grow up and have their dreams come true. I love that we get to see how they cope with the difficulties in their life and come back together.

I do wish we got to see an epilogue for them as well as stories for the rest of the band. This is the first time I’ve read a book by Erika and I will definitely be reading more.

I’m a sucker for a bad boy so I knew Lucid, punk guitarists and Christian girl fall in love, was going to be right up my alley. This fast read hit right on the mark for me. I binge read it in almost one sitting, regretting nothing.

Lucid follows Adam and Anna who first met in high school where their differences kept them at a distance. When they are forced to work together on a big project right before graduation, they realize there may be more to the story here then they both originally thought. Fast forward seven years, where Anna is living her dream of being a high-end fashion designer. While Adam is a guitarist for an extremely popular band, he is also struggling with his own addictions that are leading him to an early grave. Will this second chance romance get a chance to bloom?

I LOVED how this story was told half through their beginnings in high school and half through their second meeting as adults. Harken did such a great job of painting those new, first love feelings. I felt instantly connected to their love story. The pacing and writing were spot on. When we fast forward, Harken did an excellent job of sharing what was happening with both characters together, as well as apart. I am a sucker for a dual POV romance. I loved being in both Adam and Anna’s head through this story.

There are some heavy topics here, but the mix was just right. I am invested and I can’t wait to see how Erika continues this story.

This isn’t my typical read but the author reached out and asked me to read it and provide a review in exchange for a free copy, and honestly? I’m so glad I accepted! I loved seeing the development of Anna & Adam’s relationship from the very start all the way up to the present. I think the author captured the characters growth and personalities perfectly. I don’t want to give too much away but Omg that final plot twist that set everything into place! I found myself reaching for my IPad every night to read a bit so to me, it’s worth the read.

A wonderful, easy read about Life, faith, friendship, and Love. Adam and Anna, two people who can't be more different, fall in love in High School, meeting again after 7 years, both fall instantly for each other again, but Adam´s drug problem drives them apart again. Will their love survive? Love this story, could barely stop reading it.

Anna is portrayed as a beautiful character inside and out. She has her plan all laid out for herself. Will she be true to her own heart? I couldn’t put this book down in anticipation of Anna’s choices and those of Adam, her high school prom date, as well.
Thank you for the advanced reader copy of this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Cute story reminiscent of Kelly Orams V is for Virgin duology. Lucid is more faith-based, though.

Anna and Adam are adorable characters. I'm happy Anna followed her dreams.

I feel like Adam got off the hook too easily at the end; the author didn't go into too much detail about his recovery.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next book between Anna and Adam.

I really enjoyed this book. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes especially with a dual POV!

I especially liked the high school time period. I am not religious but I did like how Anna kept true to her faith and how Adam changed for the better (when he unknowingly stopped smoking when she prayed about it). However, I struggled a bit once they reconnected. I feel like that happened so quickly/easily and not realistic for someone so famous. As an adult, I felt Anna was more pushy with her beliefs which was sometimes annoying.

This was a quick read - the characters were great even with their struggles. This was such a sweet romance. I loved how Anna followed her true dreams of being
a designer and it was good to see Adam get the help that he needed for his addiction problem. I was definitely rooting for them throughout the book. I look forward to the next book!

Thank you to Erika Harken for the copy of this book for my honest review!

Thank you Erika for sending me a copy of “Lucid” to review.
First let me start by saying this book wasn’t what I expected it to be. The book is fast paced light read which can be finished in a day. To be honest, i thought that the book would be boring but it wasn’t. Also I lost track of time while reading.

Now, let’s talk about the book. I like how the female mc Anna has a backbone of her own. Most of the female lead in new adult fiction now a days don’t have a opinion of their own and they blindly follow the male lead. But Anna is different and strong in her beliefs which was fascinating. She's down to earth and had a good personality. Adam is reckless with his life and it was beautiful how his journey unfolds. Maybe Adam isn’t perfect for Anna from the beginning but Anna is definitely the one for Adam. In the end Adam does change for the better and I’m excited for the sequel.

Also i liked that the book is a clean new adult. Most of the new adult novels i came across has only smut and no plot. This is a change i’ve always wanted - clean new adult and i am glad that i came across “Lucid”

Erika’s writing style is light, she didn’t use fancy words and overdo the novel. I liked this about her. I’m looking forward to read her other books. And once again i would like to thank her for giving me the opportunity to read her book.

This is the first book by Erika that I've read and found it very well written. A great plot, such a great description and unfortunately a reality for many upcoming and famous people escaping the pressures. It can happen to many not just those striving to become famous. I really enjoyed getting to know Anna and Adam in this great read. I will be looking for the sequel.
