They were supposed to protect me. Instead, they abandoned me. A vicious lie, but they believed it. They could have asked more questions. They could have fought for me. Miguel was the worst of the three. He sent me away. He risks to lose it his sister, his relationship with Link, all because he didn't trust me. Link should have known better. His ex was abusive. He should have seen the signs. But it was easier to throw me away than question what was in front of him. Greg was supposed to be the best of them. The protector. The one who sees through deception. Instead, he, too, believed it all.
Now I’m adrift in the chaos and nothing makes sense. My thoughts are scary. My reasons to live are dwindling. Then there's him—my stalker. He's getting closer, day by day. Once again I'm reminded that happily ever afters don’t exist for me.
Taking Chances is book two of the Unwritten Truths Duet, a dark reverse harem romance. This means that the female main character will have three or more love interests and will not have to choose in the end. This book has a trigger warning dub con, non con, stalking, (reference to past)) suicidal attempt, suicidal ideation, bullying, emotional abuse, forced proximity, PTSD, self harm, sexually explicit, explicit language, abusive relationship outside of the harem.
The only reason I finished this book is because of Tesa and Griffin. They are the best part of the book. They were so loyal to Tori and protected her every chance they got. They supported her and were there for her. The rest of it? It was crap. Honestly, it was terribly structured, dialogue was horrible and awkward, the guys were stupid and pathetic, and Tori herself irritated me. Having the guys' grovel was fine. Though, in my opinion, she deserved better than them. But her inability to do anything herself got to me. In book 1, it wasn't as much of an issue. But now? Come on! She's an adult and can't even go pee without someone saying something. It's a big no for me on that one. Then the guys just irritated me, too. I didn't want them with her. They didn't deserve her. What they did, to me, is unforgivable. I actually really liked Turner with Tori. I thought they were actually cute, and he was so kind to her. Again, the repetitivness got to me, too. This duet could have been amazing, but unfortunately, it didn't hit the spot for me. 2 stars for my Tesa and Griffin
I don’t know what happened. Book one had so much promise and set up for the next book. But it’s like, you know when you are trying to do something quickly and it gets away from you? Like running and if you go too hard you’ll literally fall on your face? That is how this book felt. The timeline was wonky as hell. I’d read a few chapters and think “woah what a long week!” Only to learn it had only been half a day!!! Like what time did these people wake up?! Can they bend time?? The friendship between the fmc and her bff’s boyfriend is bizarre. Not that they were friends but that it came out of literally nowhere (much like the boyfriend) and made me feel like I had missed a lot. I hadn’t. I checked. The way the guys treated her was honestly shocking and didn’t fit with the personalities they had up until that point. The dialogue was bizarre and the guys all talked like typical females in their late teens/early twenties. The number of times a guy said “I just can’t…(fill in blank with “with how cute you are, with you etc)” or something along those lines was staggering. There were a bunch of good ideas that were shuffled up, dealt into a chapter, and had random dialogue sprinkled in. Then someone with a wish and a prayer was like “it’s done, let everyone read it”
I liked the first book in the duet better. I was left wanting more. I had wanted the guys to grovel more. I might not be the right target audience. This felt new adult to me. The constant use of Tori-girl and bestie was grating. It’s also meant to be a dark romance but I feel it didn’t go dark enough. Anthony seemed like a caricature of a villain. Nobody would be dumb enough to believe their victim all of a sudden wants to spend time with them. There were also four alpha males around Tori, one of them an assassin for hire. Not one of those men ever thought to confront Anthony and scare the living heck out of him. I did like the premise and I liked the ride or die friendships. The spice was fiery and I’m so glad M/M was included. I would read this author again as the first book kept me glued to my seat.
I really enjoyed the first book but this second book of this duet very much frustrated me. I found the betrayal of the MMCs at the end of the first book out of character and difficult to buy into. After all Linc went through and Greg’s profession, it seems unlikely that they would believe photos just like that and act that way. Then in this book I did not like Tori. I felt she was mean to the guys. They were trying to apologize and grovel and she was just mean and using them. Miguel said the worst things and she lets him back in quickly. Greg really didn’t even start showing up until 60% into the book. And Linc didn’t have much and was an errand boy. Then her ex gives her this ridiculous ultimatum and she just accepts it. She continues to talk to him. There is a cop, an assassin, 2 other stron guys, a strong best friend and they don’t sit down with her and come up with a better solution or plan? It was just frustrating.
This series just wasn’t it for me. Tori is a very weak character even though she is trying to be presented as strong. She’s not. She can’t even remember to eat or pee or drink water without someone reminding her. Yes she has a horrible abusive ex but at 24 years old, if you need a constant babysitter to remind you of basic functions, you aren’t adulting. Her story made no sense. This entire book was her telling the guys she can’t ever love them and will raise the baby with them and that’s it because she can’t trust them. But the reason for zero trust is literally dumb. The guys screwed up, yes, but their reasoning behind it was ludicrous. And it was cringy. I hate when authors use the word unalive instead of the regular word. It’s not cute. The spice was good though. I just can’t with this series. It’s a no from me.
So I thought I was totally #GregForLife but Griffin stole the show and I’m in love! Watch out Tesa I’m coming for your man haha! Loved this book as much as the first! Plot twists, suspense, triumph, and lots of groveling. I would have personally liked a little more of the suspense side but that is just a preference. This was beautifully done and I can’t wait to see what she does with her next series! This author is one of very few that are an instant download on my list and I’m hooked!
This is an ARC review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Taking Chances follows the same characters you fell in love with: Tori the spunky, happy pixie of a heroine, the sexy alpha men who unfortunately messed up, the amazing phenom that is Tesa, the protector best friend Griffin and you make some new friends along the way. The thrilling mystery continues pulling you into the story, and the steamy sultry romance leaves you craving for more. Bullard does not pull punches in this sequel to her thrilling debut novel Living Words.
As Bullard left us on the edge of our seats, Taking Chances starts us off right where we left off with our heroine Tori just being in a car accident and recovering from the traumatic night. When life doesn’t go as planned for our poor female lead she is forced to push on and make tough decisions as to what she wants and take her life into her own hands.
Taking Chances is an amazing novel that takes an introspective look and showcases struggles with mental health and trauma. It shows us that healing and growth are possible and ultimately that what doesn’t kill us does make us stronger. Bullard does a phenomenal job realistically portraying the inner strength that is needed as Tori struggles when life keeps throwing her curve balls.
It is easy to write a book where everybody is happy. It takes a really masterful author to be able to write a believable story, one where not only do the characters struggle and grow but so do the readers. It is an author's dream that they write in such an impactful way, that readers can connect with their characters and gain strength from their trials and tribulations. Bullard has accomplished that with her Unwritten Truths Duet. It is hard to believe that Bullard is only just starting her writing journey and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!
Seriously one of the worst duets I’ve ever read. The guys reactions didn’t make sense, Griffin falling into the group so quickly.. hell, even Anthony went from emotional abuse to crazed stalker wanting to own her? None of it makes sense what so ever. I skipped through the majority of book 2 and I didn’t miss anything. Oh and what happened to Anthony and the doctor miraculously figuring it out and being okay with it? I can’t express how much I hated these two books.
Frankly this was a very good duology. Tori is beaten down, but not as broken as she seems! A co-worker confronts her about the ongoing abusive relationship she’s in and saves her by talking her into leaving her psycho ex and moving into her home as a roommate. Little did Tori know she’d be getting three handsome neighbors - one her roommates protective older brother (who doesn’t like Tori initially and believes she’s using Tesa- his sister, two their security expert friend, and three their emotionally stunted old friend.
Eventually they get their act together and realize they’re head over heels in love with Tori - the sweet, shy, no self-esteem, but KIND girl with a heart of gold. She gets into a romantic relationship with all three of them (convenient they live right next door, right?! 🤣). But Tori’s psychopathic ex-boyfriend won’t let her go! He begins to stalk her, harass her, using his secretary (who he’s been cheating on with, while he was living with Tori) to spy on her and the guys.
So book one was really good. “Taking Chances” begins where the first book ended. Tori’s guys are disgusting, horrible, not worth enough to lick her boot cretins, who destroy EVERYTHING they built together by believing a LIE PERPETUATED by her ex-boyfriend!! Seriously these are smart men, how in the world did they believe some stupid lewd photos and a note from her psycho ex, that they KNOW IS CRAZY! They wouldn’t allow her to speak called her horrible names, just like her ex did and broke her heart. She runs, they the douche bags don’t follow. Her ex runs her off the road but can’t get her away because one of the cops he doesn’t have in his pocket comes along and “rescues” her. The dumbasses that she loved don’t even go to see her…still hung up that she cheated on them…making it all about them! In the hospital Tori learns she’s pregnant by one of the guys and when she returns home to Tesa’s her best friend and her house (Tesa gave her half the deed to the house so she’d always have a home).
By this point the guys who are oh so miserable without their pretty little “puta” (disgusting Spanish name for basically a streetwalker) they called her that and more. They now believe they MAY have made a mistake…all because Greg got the photos analyzed and Griffin and Tesa confirm the inconstancies in the photos showing they were old NOT recent like the guys believe! The fact though that it took them that long to believe, AND evidence from Greg, Griffin AND Tesa for them to believe her is gross!!! They went waaaaay down in my opinion…and honestly I love happy endings but by this point I’d have written the a-hole neighbors off and started a 3-way with Griffin and Tesa, lol!!! Also…this book duology totally DID NOT need the m/m aspect. Yes I get that Mateo and Link have been friends a long time - but there is literally NO LEAD UP TO THEIR RELATIONSHIP, save that when they’re making out with Tori they “accidentally” touch and are like, ooohhh are we going to get m/m?? Link was married to a woman (yeah she was nuts) but he was not portrayed as gay or bisexual at all. Mateo was the first to flirt with Tori and also didn’t come on as bisexual at all. It was ONLY WHEN THEY ALL GOT TOGETHER that the m/m was added - and frankly it just was not needed at all to further the plot line. In fact it deterred from the plot line because instead of looking for Tori when she ran, or seeing her when she came back, they were having very raunchy sex (as in graphic m/m) - totally forgetting they loved another person or loved anyone other than each other. Now if the book had BEGUN with Mateo and Link already in a relationship it might’ve made more sense, but it didn’t. Again really just a plot device that was unnecessary and did not do anything to better the plot or further it.
Overall, the series was enjoyable. But I’m not joking when I said I REALLY LOST RESPECT FOR THE MEN IN TORI’S HAREM!! And frankly wouldn’t have minded if she started something with Turner (band dude and his guys). That would show Mateo, Greg and Link just how much they screwed up!!! I’m not a girl who takes the FMC being very wronged without serious consequences and major groveling on the guys parts. I hate when the FMC give in too early, and liked that initially Tori comes home and is like, “nope I don’t want you in my life. You didn’t believe or trust me when I needed you!” I did not like that she begins to sleep with Mateo so soon after she gets out of the hospital, she can say it’s just sex and that she’s “using him” but doesn’t love him anymore, but we all know that’s a lie! I also disagreed with Link being “forgiven” so easily as well, heck even Greg who was the last to grovel. It was all too “easy” because she DID love them, and didn’t want to not love them anymore…not really. So she just…gives inn and eventually ends back in their bed, where she now watches Mateo s as and Link together having sex while she’s having sex…it’s just again, a bit strange because Mateo and Links “relationship” hadn’t been established, but he sure told Link he loved him quick enough. And when they were “angry” at Tori, Link worried and “eased” Mateo - totally ignoring that he’s supposed to be in love with her, and ditto for Mateo - whose supposed to be like the most obsessed with her. But all those scenes seemed forced to add an m/m aspect into a book that didn’t need one.
But, once again, it was an easy book (some triggers) and able to be read quickly for entertainment .
This is the second book in the Unwritten Truths Duet. Like the first, it was a good story and I was keen to see how the heroine was going to get through everything but it also had similar issues to the first so it's another 3.5 stars for me.
The bad guy in this story is truly a dirtbag but at times he seems to hold back his evil ways, I get that he likes to make her life miserable with the anticipation of what he plans but his character is most of the time these seem like too far of a stretch. He sees her as his possession to just leave her be for such a long time seems out of character I think.
As for the FMC Tori, she goes through a lot and I think her emotional roller coaster of feelings is well warranted and she sure made the guys work for their forgiveness. What bothered me was that with the danger she is in she's super flippant about some things.
Also, with two of the men in her life being who they are, I can't believe they didn't figure some things out sooner. I mean I knew a few things in book one that neither thought of, they both should have known better. I guess we could say their personal feelings got in the way of their good sense but I'm not so sure that holds true with their personalities.
Miguel, Link, and Greg are all alpha holes who have sure made a mess of things and they deserved to lose Tori I think they did a good job at winning her back. Some of Greg's actions were a bit off in my opinion but in general, I really like watching them squirm
This was a good duet and there was a lot to like about it. I admit it was slow going at times but I'm glad I finished the whole thing. The bad guy got what he deserved and everyone else got their HEA. . . . Tori's life was just upended again and while trying to get away from the mess her ex struck again. Anthony told her he'd never let her go and he made sure to rip away everyone who cared about her. Lucky for Tori his plan didn't all the way work. While she might have wrecked her car she was saved by a cop in the right place at the right time whom Anthony couldn't bribe.
Tessa lays into the guys for their stupidity and tells them to stay away from her best friend. Despite their anger when they calm down and look at things clearer it's obvious they've been played but instead of protecting Tori like they promised they threw her away like garbage. Now they can see through their hurt they've realized what they have lost. She's hurt and still in danger and they aren't allowed anywhere near her. 'We were close to happiness, and we fucked it up for ourselves. We were the bullies.'
Griffin and Tessa circle around Tori and try their best to heal the damage not only inflicted by Anthony but also by Miguel, Link, and Greg. They know just how fragile and on edge Tori is and one wrong move could push her over it.
Tori finds she has something worth living for and while she doesn't include the guys in her plans she knows they will always be around not just as neighbors but as Tessa's family. Tessa and Griff push her to at least hear them out but they can't seem to get their act together enough to really make amends.
Miguel is the first to make his move to try and fix what he broke and he manages to get Tori to let him in at least a little. Link goes about things in a way that leaves Tori angrier at him, but it isn't long till he's proving he can change for the better. Greg struggles the most, he has the biggest secret from Tori and thinks he's let her down the most. He goes back and forth a little on whether to be all in or all out. 'Our girl told me that she doesn't believe in happy endings and that's one of the saddest things that I've ever heard. We did that. Now we fix it.'
Tori decides that she can no longer live her life this way. She has too much good in her life now and if she doesn't fight tooth and nail she may as well give herself to Anthony now. It's time to be free and she's decided exactly how to make that happen. "Operation Unalive the Ex is almost here.'
*****PROBABLE SPOILERS (and maybe spoilers for Darkest Nights Series)*****
Again I want to give this more stars but I just can’t and I’m sorry.
There were still continuity errors throughout this book. Much smaller than the last book (and wayyyyy smaller than in the Darkest Nights series). Irritating things like she drove her own car to the gun range but when she fell out back at home it was Greg’s car they were driving. Silly things but they irritate me.
The end of the last book really pissed me off. Seriously, with Links past and Greg’s supposed security/mercenary role they shouldn’t have believed that shit Anthony set up. I totally understand why she was annoyed and didn’t want to see them but I don’t get why she was the most annoyed with Greg, followed closely by Link and Miguel the least. Miguel was the one who said the most hurtful stuff to her and it forced her to run yet he is the first one she forgives? I don’t buy this AT ALL. I think he should have been the last to have been forgiven. Personally I’d have forgiven Link, then Greg then Miguel.
I’m so very confused as to why Anthony would believe Tori and her sudden willingness to go back to him and play the victim? Isn’t he supposed to be smart? I don’t see how he wouldn’t be suspicious of her for suddenly being willing to meet for dinner etc. unless he thinks she is doing it because he allows her to keep her baby to full term? I don’t know.
Because I’ve read the darkest night first, I have some weird feeling towards Turner. He blames Greg the most, similar to how Tori doesn’t want to forgive him the most (why?!), yet I believe Miguel did the most damage. Also in the next series it makes mention if Mr Xav being more involved in Tori’s hurting but he is mentioned as a throw away bit once yet he is massive in the next book and it mentioned his vital role in Tori’s suffering in this book? His only role is he told Greg he couldn’t kill Anthony. We don’t even know how Anthony knew Xav and why they worked together. I don’t believe an ‘accountant’ could have the connections Anthony did. I’d really like an explanation as to how he gets involved with Xav when he is working for the government.
I feel like I should only give this 2* because nothing really makes sense to me, but I felt that was too harsh because the grovelling and the making up scenes were great so I bumped it up to a 3.
I understand why Tori had to be the one to do it, to unalive him but I just feel like it was a rushed option. Tori obviously went through hell but didn’t actually get kidnapped by him again so I feel we had a lot of set up where she felt this would happen and then it doesn’t. I just wanted so much more from this and I didn’t get it.
It was an easy read and something to pass the time but won’t be a series I’ll read again.
To say this book put my through my emotions, is not enough to describe the roller coaster of emotions I felt reading this book. I was actually messaging Jenn while I was reading it, because there were parts where I was like WHAT.. girl WHATTTTT.
I will say that if you're looking for spectacular groveling and redemption arc for the men? THIS is the book for you, I swear it. I am super critical of groveling and/or redemption arcs where they take a chapter or two. Nope, Jenn does our girl Tori freaking proud and makes these guys work for it. The guys go through growing pains, literally, but they needed to, desperately. Tori also grows stronger, but with help, and there wasn't a magical fix.
Tori is probably one of the most relatable characters for me, I've been in an abusive relationship (not to her extent), but the fear is real. And feeling like you can't depend on anyone, and when you do trust someone and they end up breaking it. The need to process things, away from the person or people who've frustrated you or hurt you. I am the same way, when processing my emotions I need the space.
Even though Tesa and Griffin overstep a few times, they do it from the places as her best friends. Which makes me want a Griffin, in my life, he's such a good guy and I honestly love how he balances Tesa and Tori, and is still respectable. Bear & Turner, these guys are so good, I love their personalities, and truly hope that we can see more of them!
I LOVED how her ex got what was deserved to his creepy, @bus1ve a$$. I was SMILING so big when I read that LOL.
tldr; long story short? This book is perfect for those looking for a duet (this is the second book), where the groveling & redemption arc are chapters long, and the guys work for it. There's also 2 best friends who are equal parts supportive and pushy. Great secondary characters that are close to the FMC but don't overstep their boundaries. Can't wait for more from Jenn!
Okay, this is the review for the duet together because separating them is difficult. Can I just start with most of the series I wished she'd drop the original harem for good and be with Tesa and Griff, despite everyone telling me they didn't have feelings for each other. I don't think I've ever read friendship as true and supportive and loving. Those 3 would poison the world and Griff would hide all the bodies. I don't know if I've ever read a book or series that I wanted the main character to completely deviate from the plan and say 'screw it. I'm done,' and actually stick to it as much as I did with this one. Since the girls aren't into girls, and Griff only sees her as his bestie, I had to let this dream go.
Now, that said. If you have relationship triggers, please, please read this duet with caution. This relationship is toxic pretty much up to 85%. Maybe not quite that long, but it's WAY too long. I get it, they had to grow, but the way they all were together s£xually made me cringe and beg for them to just remember what she ran away from, what she survived. Tori is a "b@dass b!tch" survivor. She is so incredibly strong. I partially wanted her to make them grovel more, but was also a bit unhappy with the way the book dragged some. The humor kept it going, but after they said the things they did, knowing her fears. To me, it was unforgivable. I read a lot of dark romance, but this one just left me conflicted. I also wanted to know who she works with that helped with all the things. I'm sad that wasnt resolved. Super happy with the Resolution with the bad guy though! That was PERFECTION!
So, what do i think of this series. Overall, I enjoyed it, i think. If you like dark/bully romance, you might enjoy it. Any DV, emotional or mental abuse triggers, self unaliving or major depression triggers, or noncon/dubcon please be weary. Not matter how amazing a book is written, it isnt worth your mental health.
This book picks up with the guys POV right after (or rather during) that nice little cliffhanger she left us with at the end of book 1. We see the guys trying to think through everything, trying to decide if what they did was right, and we get to see Tesa and Griffin be the freaking AMAZING best friends that they are.
The book takes you on quite the emotional roller coaster, with plenty of humor, angst, and suspense, as well as a very large dose of groveling from the guys. I will say, as I was reading, I felt like she was being especially hard on them. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely think what they did was horrible, and as soon as I read that part (at the end of book 1) I was ready to jump in and d!ck punch all three of them, but I think she should have forgiven them sooner than she did! This probably has to do with the fact that some chapters are in the guys POV, so we get an inside look at their thoughts and feelings, where as the FMC doesn't. If we didn't get that inside look at them, I probably would have been with Tori 100%. (This is all just my personal feelings about the situation, and does not in any way affect how I feel about this book!)
I definitely fall for Miguel, Link, and Greg more throughout, but I think Griffin stole the show. He is officially my favorite character. He's the perfect best friend!! He knows exactly what Tori needs and I love that not only is he protective of her, but he also gives the guys so much crap the whole time they're groveling. It's hilarious!! The guys are jealous that Griffin gets to be around her so much, and at one point they think he's more than just Tori's best friend. Griffin totally takes advantage and likes to rile them up about it. It's fantastic!!
If you enjoy hot, growly, alpha men, who have to do some serious groveling, and a feisty, strong, bad@$$ FMC, this is the duet for you!
"I won't ruin you until you know and trust I'll also put you back together after..."
If you read Living Words, I'm sure you are on pins and needles over the cliff hanger. Rightly so. I think a swiftly indrawn breath, maybe a gasp, perhaps a device/book toss. In the Romance genre, we have a pretty solid idea about how these books end, so I feel safe in saying that HEA is rightfully expected. However, the path Jenn gets us to Tori's HEA is one that is long, twisty, filled with realistic self-doubt, rejected advances, and some of the most intense groveling sequences I've ever read. I've already recommended this book in book clubs because of the grovel. Tori needs more than a bag of gas station chocolates, and a few day old roses. Link, Miguel, and Greg have to be creative, consistent, and still anticipate with resigned acceptance that their efforts will be thrown in the trash. It's gritty here, and with the threat of Anthony ever looming, I adored the interactions with Tessa and Griff. Taking Chances is an ode to best friends as much as it is a romance novel, and can heartily say that I hope something with Tessa and Griff is planned for the future. Such great characters deserve their own entry into the world of Tori, and I have zero shame in hoping it comes with some expansion from the epilogue which made my heart jump, and lips pout in the universal expression for "awwwww!"
- [ ] First and most important….. where do I get a Griffin?!? Seriously every girl needs a Griffin and a Tesa! One thing I seriously loved about the first book and this one is how “normal” they make someone suffering from depression and anxiety. Jenn touches on real feelings of overwhelming situations in a way that only someone who has ever been impacted by them is some way, directly or indirectly, could. Thank you. Tori. I love how strong she is and how she sticks to her guns. Does she just forgive the guys? Do they spend the entire book on her shit list? Do the guys even stay friends with themselves? How that plays out leaves you with so many mixed emotions. Love them or hate them? It’s hard to decide. The only people you need no sway of decision on are Tesa and Griffin. Steadfast is the perfect word to describe them and their relationships to Tori. I’m going to miss all these characters. I would seriously love a Novella from Tesa and Griffins point of view from their very first date. I would love to see how everything transpired from their points of view more and how it impacted their relationship to each other side by side with Tori and the boys. Read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
This is the second book in the Unwritten Truths duet and it continued on from where the first book ended on a cliffhanger. Taking Chances was full of emotion and grovelling. My heart was so heavy for Tori and all she went through. I'm so glad she didn't brush off the guy's actions and instantly forgave them. She definitely made them work for it! Anthony is such an evil character and I hated how he has made Tori feel. I could feel her fear of being caged and controlled by him. He was serious sadistic and manipulative. Tesa and Griffin were absolutely incredible in this book. I love that Jenn wrote such a beautiful platonic relationship with Griffin and Tori, proving that it is possible for a straight man and woman to have a friendship and not be attracted to each other. The amount of support they gave Tori was incredible and I loved all their moments. Griffin winding up the guys was hilarious. I thought the grovelling was spot on and I'm glad that the guys took the time to see their mistakes and work on those in order to be better men. The ending was perfect and I wouldn't say no to reading an extended epilogue or more from these characters. If you haven't started reading this duet yet, then I implore you to download it now!
The dialogue was poorly written in this installment. The men were so clueless like they didn't understand how being called a warm c*** could be upsetting. The FMC also spent the entire book explaining over and over how suicidal she felt. The dialogue wasn't unique to the speaker; it felt like the same person talking with each turn.
The first book had promise, but the grovel here was disappointing. 500 pages and I kept waiting for the grovel and instead, we got weaponized incompetency. Especially Greg, what a pointless character. He's an assassin who murders terrible people and doesn't understand that Anthony is bad. His inner monologue is pretty ridiculous at times. And they dump her in book one because they see some old photos. I would like the night I lost to reading this book back.
The Griffin BFF situation got weird. It was very clear a woman was writing this dialogue from the viewpoint of a woman and not the MMC characters she was trying to create.
3 stars because the author tries but this book could use a rewrite with better storyboarding and editing. Put the dialogue in ChatGPT and have it fix it.
This book had it all. Taking Chances picks up on that cliffhanger Living Words left us with. Tori had her heart broken by her guys. She's breathing but not living. She took a leap of faith on trusting the guys after leaving her abusive ex and they let her down. She's determined to play it safe from now on. Happily ever afters are for others and she's come to realize not for her.
The guys have come to realize that they completely messed up. They broke a good woman's heart and now desperately want to fix it. She wants absolutely nothing to do with them.
Anthony the abusive ex is still very much a threat that looms over Tori's life. He refuses to give up what he believes belongs to him.
The true MVPs of this book are 100% without a doubt Tesa and Griff. They're Tori's BFFs and everyone should have friends like them in their lives.
It was a truly satisfying conclusion to Tori's story. I hope we get a story with Tesa being the lead even if it is just a novella.
I COULDN'T CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT WHEN THIS SHOWED UP IN MY EMAIL!
When this book dropped into my email, I swear I read it so damn fast! It's been a minute since a book has really grabbed my attention to where I just can't talk enough about it. This book took me through a roller coaster of emotions, Jenn really knows how to do that. I was left on the edge of my seat last book and this one picks up right where it left off.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book and the way Tori grew. I felt that Tori has so much strength especially when things are thrown her way, she keeps fighting back. One thing that really stood out to me in this book was the way the characters grow and heal. Each from something different. I am really so happy with the way that Jenn took the book.
One thing I loved about this book is that Jenn made it so that Tori doesn't forgive the guys right away. They have to work for it and it made it so worth it in the end. Such a fantastic book.
Overall, I really sincerely enjoyed this story by Jenn. I am so glad I got the chance to read it. I can't wait to see what else Jenn writes. This one hit it out of the park for me. I would have to say it is one of my top reads this year! So good! If your looking for a good book to read, THIS IS IT!
I love when men grovel when they royally screwed up, and I do believe for how the boys reacted in book 1, it did justify the time period of being forgiven…. But whyyyyy did it take almost 400 pages of 536 to be forgiven? In the end it felt rushed with their relationship when they were getting together
My only other major dislike is … where the heck is Griff in the birthing scene ???? Like that made zero sense of why he wasn’t there or not even given a mention? As well as the scene just coming out of no where. Also, I felt like it could have easily been mentioned that Tessa was pregnant too. Making it more special for their friendship to help each other through
I loved book 1, and liked book 2. It just felt like the author was pushed into a corner with how they made Anthony’s character and how “untouchable” he was in the city, that the only way to kill him is by crocodiles😂 very believable ahaha
Overall, I actually loved how this series gave focus to outside friendships to Tori. Not being isolated with the harem only. Tessa and Griff are now my favourite side characters 💖

Oh man do I feel like I've been pulled and pushed through the wringer. This is the final book in the Unwritten Truths Duet and holy moley did this arthur bring her A game. I feel like I was taken on a wild ride emotional rollercoaster. This does pick up where that shocking cliffhanger ending in book 1 Living Words left off at. I don't want to give thing's away about what happened, but this book took off from start to finish, and I couldn't put it down, and I have to say you just couldn't have asked for a better ending for taking out the trash aka Anthony, but I would have liked to know though why Anthony was so protected and why Greg's guy had him back off, and just what was Anthony up to? They knew they had some growing up to do, and realized that they needed to do it to be able to get their girl Tori back, and they all 4 became stronger from it, especially Tori as she took back her life. I definitely would recommend this duet.
This is a fantastic second book of the duet. Tori makes those boys grovel and grovel and grovel some more. I love that she didn't take them back because she missed them or they were nice just once. She made them work for it because she understands she doesn't need them.
Tesa and Griffin really stole the show in this like they did for me in the first book. They are just so wonderful for Tori. They love each other and her. They take care of her and protect her, even from herself.
Anthony continues to be a slimy pile of garbage, no surprise there.
Tori makes a few additional friends in this and learns more about herself. Miguel, Link, and Greg learn some very important lessons in this book. They have to figure themselves out before they even have a hope of being good enough for Tori.
I'm absolutely thrilled with this book and how the story turned out.
After the past that left her broken and fragile won't let go, and collided with her present…Taking Chances picks up with Tori shattered, left with spiraling thoughts and emotions. With the help of her 2 besties - 1 feisty, the other protective - Tori begins to see her worth and how she is not alone. RIsing from the ashes, becoming the badass she has always been and claiming back her life on her terms.
This book is the perfect carry on from the cliffhanger ending of Living Words. Full of emotions, laughs and love. What a rollercoaster of a story - buckle in and enjoy the ride (and the men!).Taking Chances
I'm happily rating this as a five star read. I am glad Tori came out of her own head long enough to allow the guys to make amends. Some might say there wasn't enough groveling, but obviously for Tori there was for me there was. All four of them learned something about themselves and reinforced their bonds in the process. I won't mention Anthony other than to reassure you that he does get everything he deserves as well. I found the duet easy to read with amazing character development. A few parts are harder to read than others, but overall the story is fantastic. RH is my favorite troupe and Unwritten Truths delivers the spice. Beware of your own triggers. Read the warnings and make your decision accordingly. But dive on in if you're looking for spicy times, group scenes, plenty of swords crossing and three hot men.
Ohhh boy talk about an emotional rollercoaster! Tori’s world has been flipped upside down from her abusive ex stalker. On top of that, the men in her life who were supposed to love her, completely annihilated her.
We see Tori struggle with her new life and all of these uncertainties. It’s was completely heartbreaking, but with the support of her best friends, Griff and Tessa, she continues to grow stronger. Her relationship with the BFFs completely made this book, I absolutely loved their dynamic.
And then we have her “men”. They all groveled at their own pace and realized their mistake right away. I’m just glad that Tori took some time for herself and waited on rekindling any sort of relationship with them, it made it more realistic.
This book was filled some twists, spice, action, and SO many emotions. I am just glad to see Tori get her well fought happy ending!
Brilliant absolutely brilliant! This book will give you all the feels an then some. Tori finally takes a stand against Anthony as she decides that she’s taking back her life. The groveling is chef’s kiss from the guys Miguel and link an Greg basically realized their mistake was a dumpster fire they’d created after Tessa an Griff came at them. The huge surprise Tori finds out is what makes her fight for everything. I love how Griff an Tessa are like Tori’s guard dogs per say. Mama Rodriguez is an absolute hoot love her. Bear is another person who is on Tori’s side. I loved how it ends an that Anthony finally gets what he deserves.
Be prepared to Laugh Cry an Scream as you read the rest of Tori’s story. The book is also in multiple POVS that is always amazing.
This was a wonderful follow up from book one by Jenn Bullard. I loved every second of the story.
💜 FMC that grows 💜 growly alphahole MMCs 💜 kick 🍑 besties 💜 growth and healing physically and mentally 💜 forced proximity 💜 🌶🌶🌶🌶 spicy spice
Tori is our FMC that has been through so much already. We pick up right where book one leaves off after Tori’s car accident. Griffey and Tesa are seriously the best friends anyone could have. Link, Greg, and Miguel have serious groveling they have to do. We meet new characters and other from Living Words make an appearance.
I really enjoyed this book and read it in less than 24 hours because I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read whatever Jenn puts out, because after reading this duet, I’m a fan for life.
👉I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review👈
This book starts right where Living Worlds ends. Tori is completely broken after her boyfriends emphatically broke up with her over her ex sending lies that they were together. They were so stupid to believe that and I was so pissed at them! Tori has learned that she can’t rely on anyone because every romantic relationship she’s had has ended up with her being controlled and hurt. She’s not laying down for anyone now and Greg, Miguel, and Link will have to work hard if they ever hope to get her back.
Overall I felt like there wasn’t as exciting of a plot as there was in Living Worlds, however the spice was great (:
