Get Grounded, Get Well: Connect to the Earth to Improve Your Health, Well-Being, and Energy

Rate this book
Discover the secret to better health and a better life through grounding. Let nature and Dr. Sinatra be your guide to a happier, healthier life. Nature has historically been the world’s most acclaimed healer, with time-tested references to its ability to repair and renew body, mind, and soul dating to the earliest civilizations. For thousands of years, traditional Indigenous medicine from Mother Earth has been used to promote health and well-being for millions of Native peoples. The use of native plants and contact with the earth for healing purposes was commonplace for centuries from ancient Asia to the early Americas. In Europe, ancient Roman troops were reported to have walked upon hallowed ground after battle to receive healing energy from the earth. Recent scientific findings and clinical studies link grounding with relief for a variety of health    Grounding, the simple act of connecting to the always abundant, nourishing energy of the earth’s surface, has been scientifically and medically proven through numerous studies to have significant positive effects on our physiology. Grounding helps to restore energy, heighten feel-good endorphins, improve circulation, calm heart rate, alleviate stress, and help ensure a better night’s sleep, returning the body to a naturally balanced state of homeostasis the way nature intended. It also reduces inflammation—the culprit behind many of today’s rising health problems, including heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic pain.

This book is fantastic! Hearing the different stories on how this method has helped so many people and then the science behind it has been truly eye opening. I already practiced grounding and knew what it was but now because of this book I do it everyday and have gotten my family to do it as well. I wish I could personally thank the authors for this amazing book and I will be recommending it to everyone I know!

Lots of interesting information in this one! I’ve heard of grounding before but it was awesome to hear some success stories. It makes so much sense that as we get further away from nature, we get more sick. I also appreciated the many ways available to ground and also the best ways too. Overall, highly recommend if you are at all concerned with your health and longevity.

I have to say, when I picked up this book I had zero expectations and didn't even know what it was about or what grounding was. I just liked the title. I feel like the universe led me to read this; I truly do. This is filled with so much good knowledge, and even if you don't quite believe in grounding and its benefits, its free and it can't hurt you to try. I am looking forward to implementing grounding more in my life because I was already doing it and didn't realize how much it was benefiting me unknowingly. The audio was fantastic and I loved the narration. It kept my mind attentive and really made the material easy to absorb and understand. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Get Grounded, Get Well is an enlightening read, encouraging us to return to our ancestral connection with the earth for our health, wellness, and longevity. It works on the premise that both the earth and our bodies have an electromagnetic current and connection.
Modern life has led to a disconnect with the healing benefits of the earth,; wearing non conductive footwear and spending a lot of time indoors away from nature leads to a decline in the electrical functions within our bodies.
I found this audiobook really informative about how we have become disconnected, about providing ways in which we can begin to reconnect by using specific grounding methods and by outlining the physical and mental benefits of doing so. The most basic advice that all of us can do is to walk barefoot on the earth, submerge ourselves in water , or take it further by using grounding or earthing equipment like sleep mats. Whilst there are no negative outcomes, the author outlines the many positives to our health and mind, using his own personal health stories as examples. Some of the positives reported were reduced anxiety, improvement in the cardiovascular functions, improved sleepand a reduction in pain and fatigue. Most people report feeling so much better within themselves.
I have to say that my own blood pressure, sense of wellbeing, and immune system have seen positive results after bathing in the open water and walking barefoot in the garden, and my sleep quality has improved greatly.
For me, a few minutes returning my body to nature is having multiple positive effects on my health and wellbeing.
I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the benefits of grounding through this audiobook. The author uses easy to understand information and easy to follow advice to help us get started on our journey, and this is well pitched through clear narration.

As someone already familiar with the concept of grounding (or "earthing"), I went into Get Grounded, Get Well expecting a recap of ideas I’d already seen elsewhere. What I got, though, was much more comprehensive. This book dives deep into the science, case studies, and anecdotal reports surrounding grounding—and in doing so, it offers a wealth of information I hadn’t encountered before.
The book is incredibly well-researched and clearly written with passion. Both authors care deeply about the topic, and that passion shows. In fact, the enthusiasm sometimes leaps off the page in ways that make even the more technical explanations feel more accessible. The authors do a solid job laying out the potential health benefits of grounding—reduced inflammation, improved sleep, emotional regulation, etc.—with just enough supporting evidence to keep it compelling without turning it into a dry academic text.
That said, the book has its flaws. It becomes repetitive after a while, repeating similar success stories and core points with different wording. I found myself wishing it had been trimmed by 20–30%, as the strongest parts often got lost in the excess. The voice also shifts noticeably, likely a result of dual authorship, but at times it felt like even more hands had shaped the narrative—perhaps a ghostwriter or heavy editorial influence. This didn’t ruin the reading experience, but it did interrupt the flow in places.
One important note: Sharon Whiteley has a vested interest in the grounding industry, having founded and sold companies related to grounding products. While she doesn't cross any ethical lines in the book, the inclusion of specific brand names and products made me raise an eyebrow. It walks a fine line between being informative and veering into marketing territory. Some of the health claims—though intriguing—felt a little overblown or one-sided, especially when not counterbalanced with skepticism or alternative perspectives.
Still, despite its quirks, Get Grounded, Get Well is a thought-provoking and informative read. It’s not the definitive take on grounding, but it certainly piqued my curiosity and gave me practical ideas to explore further. A solid 3 stars—worth a read if you’re health-curious and open to holistic wellness concepts, just go in with a critical eye and a willingness to separate the science from the sales pitch.

Thank you to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC. The narration by Stephen Graybill is superb.

There is so much I enjoyed about this book: I appreciate the data- and science-driven approach. I appreciate the personal stories and anecdotes. I appreciate the practical suggestions for implementation of the information. However, there are whole sections which sound as if someone's marketing department inserted pre-written material. I would have been fascinated to hear about the products - tell me how you came up with idea, the process of developing it, how it works, etc. It isn't the idea of using a book to sell products which bothers me. It is the complete change in voice. (Not the narration, the narration is fantastic throughout). The writing style completely changes, it is as if chunks were lifted from a pre-existing brochure and set down in the middle of the book without being rewritten to fit the aims or style of the book. These sections are jarring and off-putting.

Overall, I enjoyed the content of Get Grounded, Get Well. In my opinion, with a little editing this good book could easily be great. To be clear, I am not buying everything the authors are selling. But I appreciate their insights and experience, I enjoy hearing about what they have observed. It always feels like a gift when someone takes the time to write about what they know and share it with the world. Even if I never implement all of the suggestions in the book, I can take small steps to improve my life based on what I learned. If nothing else, I now prioritize walking barefoot in my backyard every day.

While there are references to how mindfulness and contemplative practice, and how being outside and connecting with nature or being active are associated with improved wellbeing, they chalk up the results to ‘being grounded’ from the electromagnetic field given off from earth and technology. The only grounding specific research was funded by the company selling grounding products with small sample sizes comprised of members from the aforementioned company. Be careful and think critically of what you read! Grounding is a pseudoscience at worst, and no doubetedly an area that desperately needs rigorous research before any of the claims made in this book can be substantiated.

I make no claims to being an expert at electromagnetism, however I hold a PhD in Human Development and my area of research expertise is evaluating the effects mindfulness programs on mental and physical wellbeing. The research claims here are startling and heavily misleading. Proceed with caution as you read

This book contains vital information for natural healing that is accessible to everyone! In reading this book I am inspired by the practice of “grounding/earthing”. It is essential and has countless healing benefits for your overall wellbeing (physical and mental). There are so many ways to experience this healing practice and the main ingredient is to get outside and connect with nature, which something we are all lacking. This was a worthwhile read! I will definitely be incorporating more nature into my daily routine to boost my spirits, increase my body’s healing ability and bring balance back to my body/mind!

I listened to this on audio. Overall it was an interesting concept and introduced me to a new concept. My critique is that it was often time redundant, with full paragraphs feeling as though they were copy and pasted multiple times. I feel as though tis book would have been just as thought provoking and educational had it been 1/2 the length and edited a bit more.

I really enjoyed this book. I recently learned about grounding and while it seems very simple, it is something we all need to relearn and reconnect to.
