Understanding Modern Spirituality: An exploration of soul, spirit and healing

Rate this book
It is only when we are courageous enough to ask some big questions and are not afraid to put in the effort to grow that our life truly unfolds.

Understanding Modern Spirituality explores many themes of life, death, soul, and spirit and examines the numerous old, outdated, ambiguous teachings that have dominated the new age industry.

When we think deeply, we have an opportunity to connect the pieces of our life in a profound and inspired way. Inna Segal, bestselling healing author, will challenge you to understand the differences between physical and energetic bodies. Why do we need to learn about spiritual worlds while we are on Earth? Think about soul and spirit exploration and what nourishes and refines the soul.

How can higher truth be simple? We can look at the physical body and all the processes that science has discovered about it to recognize how complex we are. Imagine all the things that science doesn’t know and can’t perceive—including our energy bodies, soul, and spirit—let alone answer question of where we came from, where we are now in the evolution of humanity, and where we are going.

Inna is here to shake you out of any idleness and dare you to go on a fearless search toward your own inner awakening.

I think this is an aesthetically pleasing book, but it is very, shallow. She talks about multiple topics of spirituality and claims to be teaching others, but only skims the surface of the topics, which is ironic because she heavily criticized skimming the surface of spirituality in her book. She harped a lot on discernment and how important it is to do shadow work but made bold claims of simply journaling and turning inward, as if shadow work was that easy. I questioned a lot of her content reading most of her book, but decided to practice my own discernment and put it down, as I questioned the validity of the knowledge of the content, although we’ll never truly know until we die. As one other reviewer said, the author is heavy with blame to the reader. I thought the author was downright condescending. I’m spiritually enlightened and on my journey and am doing shadow work, but what this book fails to talk about is yes, it is important to understand the spiritual world, but we are humans, and we are here to live the human experience and to learn the lessons we have decided upon with our spirit team before incarnating. I can speak from experience what it’s like to constantly live “up in the clouds” of spirituality rather than being present and living my life here on earth. Don’t read this book just because it’s pretty. Go find an energy healer or teacher and work with them and learn from them and read many other spirituality books. Come to your own conclusion on what spirituality is to you and what YOU believe in.

I loved this book. As someone just starting their spiritual journey, this gave me an insight to so much more than I have expected.

I read a chapter each night, meditated on it and then journaled about all I read. I’ve made a list of further research I’d like to do as well.

I voice recorded myself speaking through the meditation processes at the back for further use and have passed it on to my friend that is on the same journey as me.

One of the most beautiful books I have ever read aesthetically. Loved the design, images, and illustrations. Content was a bit disappointing. I expected more.

The design/ aesthetic of the book is stunning! The language of blame and deficit is heavy which set the wrong vibe for me and struggle to get to the first 50 pages.
