Janis has always loved writing contemporary love stories. These are tales about people in their 30s finding connection, navigating career and life changes, and falling head over heels in unexpected ways. Those stories still hold a special place in my heart. But lately, she’s been drawn more and more to characters with a little more mileage. People who’ve lived, loved, lost, and kept going. That’s why she’s shifting her focus to seasoned romance.

Seasoned romance is about characters who are in their 40s, 50s, or beyond. There’s something incredibly compelling about two people who aren’t looking to be rescued, but instead find someone who sees and appreciates them exactly as they are.

The stakes are often quieter but no less meaningful. Instead of love triangles or who’s texting whom, we’re dealing with grown-up issues like aging parents, blended families, second careers, or healing from past relationships.
