Hadley Carson has reached rock bottom. Kicked out after a one-night-stand, half-dressed and hungover . . . at least she never has to see him again, right?

Wrong. Jesse Thomas is the best man in her best friend's wedding; as the maid of honor, she's stuck by his side for a whole week.

As they start to spend time together, Hadley wonders if there's more to him than meets the eye . . . and maybe more to herself?

Spice: 2.5🌶

📖 Plot: Hadley does something she hasn’t in years, she has a one night stand. Only to be kicked out the next morning by the best lay she’s had - quite possibly ever.

Good thing she’s going to spend the next week celebrating her best friend’s wedding. Except she just can’t shake Jesse, fate decides they’re destined to spend more time together.

💭Review: I fell for Hadley and Jesse from the very beginning. They are realistic characters with such real struggles. Their lives and love are messy and complicated and hard in their own unique way. I loved the strength and love they shared regardless of their circumstances. They remind us that there is strength in healing and perseverance. That we are still worthy of love when we’re broken.

🖤I think this author did an incredible job of incorporating heavy topics that are avoided in most of todays books in a BEAUTIFUL and HONEST way. I am blown away by her writing because you would never guess this is a debut novel. Her attention to detail and the easy banter and flow of the characters made it easy to relate to them and become attached.

💗This is a story of love (with some spice 🤤), tragic accidents, healing, and perseverance. It even has a bit of mystery weaved in as well. I mean what else could we ask for?

⚠️On a very serious note, this book has several trigger warnings. It discusses and includes some heavy material that should be considered for those who have triggers before reading.

✨ I would recommend for readers who like:
Forced Proximity Trope
Introduction by Hookup Trope
Spice
HEAS
Smidge of Insta-love

Thank you to the author for an eARC. This is my honest review.

First, I’d like to commend the author for diving into such a sensitive subject as mental health. As someone who’s experienced mental health challenges in the past, I appreciate this book so much. In relation to the story, I was hooked in the first chapter and wanted to see how the story between Hadley and Jesse ended.

The character development is strong as I truly felt for the characters, especially Jesse. His struggles with depression and anxiety seemed realistic, especially the moments highlighting his PTSD. Hadley’s character was enticing as she was written as a strong, yet broken female. Yes, it’s possible to be both strong and broken. She was strong for Jesse, even as she was molding the broken pieces within her.

The romance between the two was sweet and gentle. I wouldn’t necessarily say tit was a slow-burn but still good nonetheless. The spicy factor was prominent yet calm at the same time. Overall, I enjoyed reading their story and look forward to reading more this author. As a debut, I find this to be very well done. Great job, Kylie!

Mental health is heavy. It can be hard to deal with, and it's hard to write about - especially with the grace and dignity that the subject deserves.
Kylie did that and blew me away.
I really enjoyed the alternating POVs from Hadley and Jesse and LOVED that a dog plays a large role in the book.
I liked that she didn't reveal what happened to Jesse and Hadley right away. I was super close to figuring out both, but not quite!
I loved that both characters were vulnerable and broken, but it wasn't their entire persona. People are more than what they have been through, what they're currently struggling with, and how they feel.

This is one book that I'll definitely be adding to my collection! I'm so glad that I found this book, and that Kylie isn't afraid to talk about mental health and help stop the stigma surrounding it.

I just finished the Booksta Central Indie Author Book Club selection for June! Pieces of You by Kylie Monahan is a deeply emotional and romantic read. If you’re a fan of mental health representation in books, you’ll want to add Pieces of You to your tbr!

As I mentioned, mental health is one of the main topics of the novel. Both FMC and MMC, Hadley and Jessie, have had traumatic experiences in their past, which are explored throughout the book. Additionally, tools for healing such as therapy and taking care of yourself and each other are openly discussed. I think these topics are so important and I was so glad to see honest discussions surrounding these subjects on the page. 🫶

Pieces of You isn’t only about mental health, though. Please believe me when I say that you’ll find plenty of romance and spice in the novel ❤️🌶️! Hadley and Jessie fall hard and fast for each other and their chemistry is both tangible and heartbreakingly sweet. I really appreciated how they both put their own needs aside, when necessary, to help care for the other person. 🥰

At its heart, Pieces of You, I think, is about embracing the journey towards healing, being patient and kind with each other and yourself, and making the changes necessary to get to a better place. If you’re looking for a book filled with healing and hope, you should give Pieces of You a read!

In the pages you will find:

❤️Romance
🧠Mental health representation
🌶️Spice
💪Strong friendships
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒Complicated family dynamics
👰🤵‍♂️A Wedding (not the MCs though!)
🐴 Horses
🐶An adorable dog
📝 Research article citations in the author’s note!
🧁A sweet and hopeful romance

Pieces of you by Kylie Monahan
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book follows Jessie and Hadley, who are both struggling to overcome traumatic pasts. They come together as the best man and maid of honor for a wedding.

Wonderfully written, this book contains an excellent representation of mental health. I loved it so much! It tugged at my heart and had me sobbing alongside the characters as they navigated their individual struggles.

I appreciate how the main characters were able to share their experiences and support each other through their mental health challenges. They managed to set aside their fears and be there for one another when needed. The book highlights this sensitive subject very well.

💚 I want to thank the author for such a well-written, thought-through book. As an advocate myself, I am so happy to see that the author took the time to include not only a woman's perspective on mental health struggles but also a man's perspective.

I know for a fact that this book will live rent-free in my mind!!

high recommend

I really enjoyed reading this book as part of a book club I am in. I really appreciate how understanding Hadley and Jesse were with each other’s struggles. Life is not easy and you truly never know that persons daily battles. I appreciated how Jesse and Hadley loved each other and were so open and honest throughout their relationship. When you have any sort of past trauma it is sometimes very hard to move on and overcome those barriers that you create for yourself.
I truly loved the love they had for each other and their friends and family throughout everything. When life gets tough you just keep going even when you don’t want to. Open up to your friends or family and they might be able to help you in more ways than one.

This was June’s read for our indie book club, and it was both really sweet and spicy! Both main characters suffer from their own mental illnesses and dealing with past trauma that force them to push other people away. However, they find solace in each other and discover that they do want to open up to the other person. This leads them on a path of healing which is beautiful to watch unfold. It’s easy to let your demons take over, but more fruitful to move past it.

“I barely knew her, yet it felt like I’d known her forever. Everything was easy with Hadley.”

Pieces of You was such a ride!
Most of the book happens during a wedding week, between the Maid of Honor and the Best Man. But this story is so much more than another wedding RomCom!
Hadley and Jesse are both deeply hurt and they had to face events that made their life in danger. They both deal with the aftermath and a big part of the book is dealing with how they learn to trust each other, open, and help the other when the past is coming back, in their body or their brain.
I adored that part, how anxiety, pain and PTSD was dealt with. The tone is sweet, a bit languorous as they learn how to lean on each other. A great portion of the story is spent doing mundane things, confiding into each other, about “big” things but also pop culture or food. That love story felt deeply real, soft, tense and spicy all at once. They become the other’s advocate, their crutch in the best of sense, as they stand for each other, no matter what. That’s one of my favourite love languages.
The last part is an avalanche however. So much happens here that it takes your breath out. It was almost too much for me and my little heart, because Life had taken so much for them already. Yet, it allows the author to explore even more feelings (and I won’t ever say No to that).
Once again, I had a great time reading the Indie bookclub’s pick !!

Thank you Kylie for giving me the opportunity to read your lovely story with this ARC!

This is Kylie's debut novel and I really enjoyed it! The writing feels... simple but not in the sense that it's lacking or unrefined. Rather, it feels stripped down, not hiding behind elborate prose. And that really compliments Jesse and Hadley's story. They are two individuals who are trying to heal from their own traumas and while their initial meeting doesn't end well, when they get their second chance, there's very little pretense. It, of course, takes them time to build enough trust to reveal their whole selves but they never pretend to be someone they're not. Who they present is who they are and both accept each other without condition. Instead, they focus on growing together and picking up the pieces the other can't shoulder. And I love that because everyone deserves to have that kind of support in their lives.

CN: open door romance, mental health (PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic attack), major accidents causing physical injuries, emotional abuse, sexual assault, abandonment, mentions of death

This is the debut novel of one of my booksta besties and guys, I am so impressed with her!
On to my thoughts 💭
Hadley and Jessie… a walk of shame meets insta love romance story between two people dealing with very real mental health issues.
One of my favorite things about this book is how it tackles the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly when it comes to men.
The spice is nice and not too overwhelming, but definitely still there. I’d say 🌶🌶/5.
I obviously recommend!
It’s on KU if you want to check it out before buying an ebook or paperback. Remember to support indie authors! 💓
