explains that the country was created for former slaves, area secured by holding a gun to the head of the local chief. prejudice. eventual civil war almost completely destroys the country, war lords use diamond and lumber proceeds for weapons.

then, ebola kills people. mentions music, foods, mini hippo, rubber plantation, various presidents, books, music, access to radio/tv/newspapers.

I am a Liberian person who is doing research into my family and the history of Liberia. This was a great resource for me and I learned so much more about the place of my ancestors. My grandma would tell me about the Civil war, her time as a young girl, and her life as a young mother growing up pre-war Liberia. It is cool to learn more about these moments in history.
