The Little Book of Horrors: A Celebration of the Spookiest Night of the Year
Halloween is a very special time of year and takes on huge significance for a vast number of people in different ways. For many, it's a chance to dress up, wander the streets for a trick or treat session, gorge on candy and have a party, whereas for others it is a time of remembrance, of visits to ancestors' graves, or prayers at this holy time. But what are the real origins and meanings of this festival that's commonly associated with darkness, witches, ghosts and ghouls? The oldest known Halloween celebration was the Celtic Samhain , a time when the souls and spirits of the dead would find it easiest to return to visit the living. Food was offered to keep the spirits happy and eventually the festival was formalized by the church as a time of remembrance in advance of All Saints Day. This fun little guide looks at the history of all things Halloween, from the earliest feasts and customs to the latest fun and games that are common around the world. We delve into the meanings of many of the symbols of Halloween, like pumpkins, black cats, apples, witches and ghosts, and examine the many different ways people celebrate around the world. An interesting and quick to read book, consisting of short lists about all things Halloween.
Here, you will find lists and several fun facts about stuff such as Halloween songs, the most popular Halloween candies, Halloween movies etc.
I bought this from a bookshop in Bologna and read it while I was on the plane to Greece. It was a nice experience but at times, I found this to be stalling a bit.
That and the fact that some of the info found on the lists was inaccurate (small things here and there, such as the greek word for pumpkin being "pepon" and the song Zombie by the Cranberries being a Halloween song) are the reason why I am not giving this a 5/5. But hey, a 4/5 is still a good rating!

What a wonderful book to read during Halloween. This is a sort of nonfiction, coffee table book, that can be easily put into your pocket. It outlines facts, history and quotes based around the spooky season. It mentions how much candy is eaten, pumpkins are brought and wasted each year and what costumes are the most popular. It has lists of music to play at parties, and list of most haunted countries and locations. It has quotes from movies and TV shows based around Halloween and novels too. It also discusses the history of the season and how it probably started. Even though this book is nothing mind blowing, it a perfect Halloween read. Highly recommend.

This is a cute, spooky book full of interesting, spooky and some lesser known facts about Halloween & the original Celtic celebration known as Samhain.
I already knew a lot of the information in the book, but there was still some information that I didn't know, so it was interesting to read.
This is a simple, easy book to read and I read it in one day.

This little book was a quick and fun read of Halloween goodies. While it wasn't my favorite by any stretch, and while I imagine that the statistics will become outdated pretty fast, I still found it a nice way to spend an evening, and it provided a strong array of various topics.

This book was so cute! It was a collection of Halloween facts, statistics, quotes, and recipes! Can’t wait to read it in the Fall to get me excited for spooky season (lots of great spooky movie, song and book recommendations).
Some facts seemed kinda ambiguous or far-fetched without any references or citations, which is the only reason im giving it 4/5 stars instead of 5/5.

The Little Book of Horrors: Spooky Wit & Wisdom for Halloween & Beyond **
Sorry but this bombed, the worst of the OH series. It was mostly about candy production and odd statistics, example, “According to USA Today, it is estimated that 11 percent of the US population is afraid of the dark.” (p72). I was hoping for info regarding classic horror stories from mythology, literature and movies.
