A sexy Fire Elemental on the verge of self-combustion. A human woman with a touch of Water in her blood. A supernatural foe bent on destruction.
Levi, warrior and Fire Elemental, has one mission—to protect the mortal realm from the forces of Chaos. But that changes after a chance encounter with a human woman whose smile makes him burn hotter than the fire inside him.
Brooke Simmonds can’t forget the mysterious man with flames in his eyes and strange tattoos on his arms who walked through an inferno to save her from a devastating apartment fire. When she finds him again, their reunion ignites a fiery passion that threatens to consume them both.
But Levi is back for another, more urgent reason. The Chaolt are after Brooke. There’s a power awakening inside her, and they plan to exploit it. She’s suddenly sucked into a world, and a war, she never knew existed while Levi’s powers blaze even more out of control, endangering everyone around him.
The attraction between Levi and Brooke is so hot it sizzles, but if he doesn't get his fire in check and stop the Chaolt, the entire town of Topaz Ridge may go up in flames.
I really enjoyed this book and it made me want to be apart of the world. It built slowly and developed the characters nicely. It has a good mix of humor and excitement. I am looking forward to more books about these characters and learning more about the elemental world. Levi and Brooke’s story is a must read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I actually really liked this book!! The concept of elemental warriors protecting the world from chaos and how certain chaotic events happen is something I have never seen before. Levi and Brooke’s first meeting is probably one of the most adorable things I have ever read. The two main characters balance each other so well and Levi’s boyish charm makes him so easy to fall in love with. I can get past minor punctuation errors or spelling errors because those in my opinion did not take away from the story. Overall I thought this was a great read and cannot wait to read more!
Actual rating: 3.5 ⭐️ I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC from Joanna. 'Burn' is the start of a series that I hope continues to develop and grow (I need a book about Micah immediately!) Our main characters are Levi and Brooke. They meet as Levi is looking for someone he's meant to protect and Brooke has had some success in her career. As they continue to cross paths, not so accidentally, their passion and chemistry grows. Levi has to act as Brooke's protector after she gets tied up into his war, with mixed results. If you love a supernatural war element in your books pick this one up. There's forced proximity, bodyguard, and forbidden romance vibes. For me there were a few things that didn't make it my perfect book. I wanted more exposition on Levi's team. There is a hint of their arrangement together, but I felt like there wasn't quite enough. There was a heated argument that Levi alludes to with him and Walker I would have rather seen than told it happened. Levi alludes that their team is a high profile team but communication in the team felt very non-existent as Brooke was a water Sleeper and therefore Walker apparently knew she was a Sleeper but didn't tell anyone and just blamed Levi being uncontrolled for why he hadn't dealt with Brooke. Frankly it felt a little cheap, but didn't take away completely from the story. It did feel a bit too fast. I wanted the book to be longer, the love between Levi and Brooke felt real but a bit insta-lovey. I do love the concept of the Elementals, I want to see more of Primordia, and the Chaos plane. I want to see more on how the portals work and I want to see women Elemental warriors. I cannot wait to see this series grow and the narrative grow with it. I see the potential with the material given and hope for the best in future books in the series. (Get me a book on Micah, PLEASE! 🙏🙏🙏)

I really, really enjoyed this elemental world. The lead MC, Levi, also gave me heavy Orpheus vibes the way he just wants to please the FMC. I do kind of feel the story was rushed, and that we miss out on a lot of details and “how’s.” Not so much that we don’t know how stuff happens in the story, but more so that it happens so quickly I feel like I was missing a lot. Lol I do like this story and am anxious to see how the world continues to build!
“Elementals had always played a part in human evolution and history, moving back and forth freely at times. Despite being unknown to most mortals, they viewed Earth as our neighbor in the cosmic universe. Now, only a few were allowed here for the purpose of fighting Chaos. With the aid of the other warriors, Levi searched for Sleepers—humans with latent elemental powers—in hopes of draining them before the enemy, the Chaolt, caused them to self-destruct. And in so doing, caused damage and loss of life, and increased the amount of chaos in the world. Self-destructing Sleepers were easy prey. More bang for less buck. Flash floods, blizzards, avalanches, tornadoes, the earthquake in 2008… They could all be blamed on the Chaolt. And that was just in Nevada. The loss of human life could be staggering, the amount of chaos released, catastrophic. Pompeii, for example. Which is why Sleepers drew the forces of Chaos like ants to sugar. But Sleepers were rare. Even in large cities, only a handful could be found. Unless, of course, the city had a portal, a doorway between the Elemental and Mortal worlds. Sleepers felt drawn to the portals, usually settling nearby, their subconscious happier close to ‘home’. This desire to be near the portal made Topaz Ridge, and other portal cities and towns around the world, home to many Sleepers and ground zero for the war against Chaos. Chaos had the ability to destroy the very fabric of the universe, Levi’s own world included, and for reasons unknown, that seemed to be their goal. And they were winning. All anyone had to do to see they were losing the war against Chaos was to watch the TV or read the newspaper. Every day, there was a new disaster in some part of this world….”
Burn is the first book in the Elemental Warriors series and debut novel by Joanna Morgan. This is a fantastic paranormal romance with plenty of originality, danger, Elemental warriors facing off against a powerful supernatural adversary, action, adventure, mystery, intrigue, tension, intensity, chemistry, steam, and agendas. I was drawn to the book by the interesting cover and the fact the blurb promised something a little different in paranormal romance… and, to be honest, Ms. Morgan had me at Elementals. So, I didn’t waste a minute and grabbed a copy and began to immediately explore. I was soon immersed in an exciting story that pulled me in and kept me flipping the pages, avidly reading to discover how things would play out. I loved the creative and original world-building, it really added an extra element of interest to the whole story for me. The whole Elemental Warriors, Sleepers, Chaolt thing was really well done and had me invested right from the opening passages. I think this book sets the series off to a fantastic start and I can’t wait to get my hands on Book #2! If you love paranormal romance you will definitely want to grab a copy of this book to explore. Happy reading!

I so loved this book and the flow of the story line. The author took her time and didn’t rush through the ending to just finish the book. As a reader, I appreciate a well thought out story. This book had an underlying current of tension all the way though.
Brooke is a career oriented person who is adamant on paying her own way in life. She moved to a quiet town that made her feel like this was home. She’s a graphic designer for the local newspaper and loves her job.
Levi is an elemental from a different planet to keep humans safe from the Chaolt (a causer of chaos) in the form of natural disasters. Everytime a Chaolt kills a sleeper ( a human with latient elemental powers) a disaster is caused.
Levi and Brooke meet when Levi sees her across the street and his powers get all twitchy. He has no idea why he is reacting as such. Yes, she is beautiful but he has seen beautiful women before.
So much happens once these two meet that you will not be able to put this book down. Brook is in danger at every turn and will need protection from something she knows nothing about. This story has twists and turns, suspense to keep you reading and a love story you will be cheering for until the very end.
This was an interesting read! I liked that this was a different take on elementals than what I've read before in the past. It was fast paced, and full of sexual tension and sizzling energy throughout the whole book. Some of the scenes felt a little rushed but overall it was a good read. This is the first book in the Elemental Warriors series and I'm intrigued to see where the rest of the books go.
A thoroughly unique take on elementals. Morgan weaves a fascinating tapestry between the real and supernatural worlds. The story is as heart wrenching as it is steamy and satisfying. I'm eager for the next installment of this series.
Okay, definitely spicy and a good story, I need to read more in the series to see want to see what the future holds for the other 3 elementals. Funny enough, hubby picked this one out for me to read from my long list of kindle books! 🌶🌶🌶⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is the beginning of a series and can be read as a stand alone. The fast pace, page turning action of the story line will have you sitting on the edge of your seat and dying to find out what happens. Levi has the element of fire meaning he can create, control, and cause fire to happen anywhere at any time. Brooke is your general run of the mill normal human girl with no elemental powers or so she thinks. The mystery that also follows the story line sets up for the other books to follow and I can't wait. Levi is trying to protect Brooke which is forcing them to spend time together and what happens when people are forced to be in each other proximity in a romance book, yep you got it. The steam happens. This book has it all mystery, action, passion, forbidden love, protection, and chaos. I highly recommend this book to anyone who like paranormal and who like a good romance read. It will keep you high entertained and wanting more. I can't wait for book two.
Brooke is living a relatively normal life, until she happens to cross paths with Levi. Levi is an elemental who can control, cause, and create, fire. It’s not until her apartment building explodes and Levi rescues her from the aftermath that Brooke learns that there is something more to Levi than meets the eye, though she doesn’t know quite what yet. Eventually, Levi tells her the truth, in an effort to protect her from the Chaolt, the chaos creators who often kill Sleepers, or humans with latent elemental powers, in an effort to bring about as much chaos and destruction as possible. When it becomes clear that Brooke is a Sleeper, Levi and his team work to protect her, which puts Levi and Brooke in close quarters are they try to use her as bate to get the Chaolt to come out of their hiding places. With all the time they spend together, Brooke and Levi start to develop a relationship, even though elementals are not allowed to have relationships with humans.
Wow, do I ever like the change of pace. I have watched shows before where different elements are brought into the picture, but this is one of the first novels I've read with this take on magic/paranormal aspect within their pages. I absolutely love Brooke's character throughout, but especially as she's becoming comfortable in her own skin, and owning her person. She has just met some of her life goals when things get a little steamy, so to speak, and Levi enters into the story.
The character development was wonderful, slow, yet addictive and delightful with every sentence, and I really felt as though I was experiencing the whirlwind of emotions both main characters felt. This author is a new one for me, and I will be sure to read more of her skilled writing soon, especially the next installment in this series. Highly recommend, well worth a read!
The world is set where Elemental warriors are on earth to protect it from the Chaolt, where a war between them has roared for many years. There are humans called Sleepers who possess latent elemental powers where the Chaolt will draw out those powers to cause chaos in the form of natural disasters… that’s if the elemental warriors don’t stop them first. The story follows a fire elemental Levi as he encounters a Sleeper named Brooke, but there’s more to her. Why is she is so special?
I enjoyed the concept of this book as it’s not something I’ve read before. It was slowly paced at the start and about 70% in, the action and drama really kicks off, but I believe that’s really to build the relationships between the characters. There is a tiny bit of spice for our romantics out there.
I liked Levi discovering that he’s more than just what he is told. When he goes to revisit his own world as he starts to lose control of his powers, and then given a cryptic message, it really developed him for his own evolution. I did find it funny with all the chaos happening around her, Brooke still wanted to do normal human activities like making sure her work was done at her job - it was such a human thing to do.
I’m interested to see how the next book goes as there is so much more to be explored. It will be interesting if we see more of the other elementals and their stories unfold.

This was definitely not what I was expecting but in a great way! I love how creative and different it is. The romance wasn’t in your face or steal the show from the storyline it played into it and enhanced it like it should. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy novels.
This story was a great start to an exciting and adventurous series, and personally I can't wait to read more. While normally my fantasy stories involve wishes, vampires and fae, this one had a whole new outlook with the elemental aspect. The story as a whole was exciting, adventurous, suspenseful, and more. The characters were built perfectly and the plot as a whole had me on the edge of my seat. While I love all fantasy genres this one has quickly become one of my favorites and I can't wait to see what our author gives us next.
I'm obsessed with this book. The book totally catch me. Took some hours to finished I just can't stop reading. Very well explained every single detail. I feel every emotion deeply. I just love the story between Levi and Brooke, is beautiful and spicy. I need a Levi in my life. I just highly recommend you will not regret it. I can't wait to read the second one. ❤🔥🔥🔥
What a different love story between Levi (an Elemental) and Brooke (a Sleeper). The love they shared made their fire and water come together as if it were their destiny. I don't want to spoil it, the plot twist in the end, made it exciting. I can't wait for this new author to come out with Book 2, I hope it's Ajax's story.
I love this book, the chemistry and the elementals. I adore love stories that defy laws and rules.
I was also sad for another character but I'm hopeful because this is only book 1.
Definitely a new spin on elementals than I've seen. I can't wait to find out more about the chaolt and why this is happening and so many other things. I have so many questions for the rest of the series. I'm excited.
And there's a twist you won't see coming.
There were a few grammatical/spelling errors I found, but it wasn't anything major.
Now, I loved the ending, but it also threw me off as I thought it was going to end 3 separate times but it kept going, but I did love the actual ending.
The idea was big, the characters were interesting and I liked them and I loved them together. I also love all the different types of tension in this book, just layers of it.
I received a copy for an honest review. I stopped reading on page 104 . . . I rate this book 2 stars: firstly - I liked the concept. Secondly . . . I couldn't finish this novel due to the grammar - the lack of proper punctuation- comma splicing and 'and' splicing. Lastly: I found three spelling mistakes. My suggestion would be to take your time and reread because there is a lot of potential.
Burn (Elemental Warriors Book 1) by Joanna Morgan - Review by Jessica Stone
Who doesn't love a hot, buff, elemental warrior who's single minded focus is making sure you're safe? No one, that's who.
This paranormal romance has a wonderfully new story that grabs you and sucks you in.
Levi is a fire elemental who is part of an elite group of warriors who has one job, to protect everyone from this nasty stuff called chaos, and track down the sleepers before the Chaolt do. But then by chance, or what I call fate he's at the right place at the right time and saves Brooke, from a fire, and she's exactly what Levi's been looking for. 🔥
Brooke can't stop obsessed over this hot stranger who saved her life, and thankfully for her fate just keeps thrusting them together. But what Brooke didn't know is she's a "sleeper" a human with latent abilities and are waking inside of her, unfortunately that makes her a target for the evil Levi's been fighting to stop.
Both characters are relatable and their chemistry is fantastic, the story is new, a different take on an elemental story than those I've read before but comparable in every wonderful aspect.
I'm pretty big into paranormal romance, forced proximity, lately so this filled my cup very well. The author did a good job at world building and did not rush to skip through the important character and world building details. The idea to this book is fantastic, the thought put into using real events in history as a premise in this story as to what the sleepers can do is just awesome. I can't wait to read the next book in this series, I definitely can be read as a stand alone but after reading this I'm unsure anyone could say they don't want more of this series.
Can't wait to see what Joanne and our Elemental warriors have in store for us.
Burn, Elemental Warriors Series, Joanna Morgan, Review, Itsy Bitsy Book Bits, Paranormal, Romance, Jessica Stone, September 2022
Burn was different and interesting. This was one of the first elemental books I’ve read. It seemed interesting and appealing so I took the leap. I’ll be honest I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. It’s part of the sci-fi/fantasy genre that I would give another chance. I would definitely give this author another chance, because despite what I feel/don’t feel for this book the author has a lot of promise. An author that I would definitely read again if presented the opportunity. It took time for me to get into this book but once I was there. I enjoyed the substance of the story that was written. Levi, our main character, I feel like despite everything going on was on a path to self discovery. At least that’s how I interpreted it. Losing control of his powers(elemental fire.) While also experiencing unexpected attraction to a human woman. Attraction he’s never felt before. Which doesn’t help when he keeps ending up in her path. Eventually protecting her from the unknown to her(Chaolt.) Brooke swore she was living an ordinary life. Finally landing her dream job and living freely in Nevada. Till it all literally blows up in her face. Caught in a fire a mysteriously attractive man saves her, who somehow controls the fire, or is she crazy? The dynamic and tension between both these characters is well written, and it’s what kept me latched on to the story itself. Being from different worlds and trying to understand each as their own. Trying to navigate feelings that shouldn’t be had. Trying to survive the Chaolts and try to understand what they want. It all keeps one intrigued, but to get that you need to push through. That is if you struggle like I did at the beginning. Lots and Lots of promise for this author and I look forward to reading more books in the future.
This was a fantastic paranormal read. I really enjoyed this book. I read the entire book In one sitting. I was hooked from the very beginning. This is the first book that I have read from this author and I was not disappointed. I recommend this book to anyone who is into paranormal books. Im excited to read more book from this author in the near future.
So paranormal romances are sort of a guilty pleasure for me. I enjoyed how this was a new take on the paranormal romance trope that intrigues me from the synapse of the book. Add in to that some action and adventure this is the beautiful start to a new series by Ms. Morgan.
I loved Levi as the elemental fire warrior whose main mission is to protect the human realm from supernatural threats. That is until inadvertently meeting Brooke when he saves her life, pulling her from an apartment fire. As they keep running into each other the fire burns hotter in Levi, and something begins to awaken in Brooke that gets her attention from the Chaolt. Will Levi be enough to save Brooke from the Chaolt? Can Brooke figure out this new power awakening within her and discover why she has been thrust into a supernatural war?
This book definitely has a very slow start, but with this being a new series and requiring necessary world building for the reader it is semi expected. If you can get past all the needed details to build up the storyline this is definitely an action filled romance novel that may make you feel unnecessarily heated. Definitely a must read if you want a paranormal romance that is different from the rest. I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series and am excited to follow along.
This book was such a unique and fascinating concept. I don’t think I’ve ever seen elementals told in quite this way before. (And yes, I’m considering chaos as an elemental for the purposes of this world.) And while “good versus evil” and the ultimate battle for the survival of Earth are not new concepts, I really liked the way the author used them here. I loved Levi. Watching him struggle through understanding the juxtaposition between weakness and strength, and how love can amplify either attribute kept me glued to the pages, and, in the end, left me in tears. Brooke is so sweet and feisty. It was very easy for me to ‘walk in her shoes’ during this book as she learned all about this shadow side to the world she never knew before. It was equally easy to fall in love with this pair while they connected with one another. I noticed that there were some instances that I hesitate to call continuity errors, but I’m not sure what else to call them. Statements would be made and only a few paragraphs later the same information would be repeated, as if it were the first time we were being told it. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book and I’m very much looking forward to seeing where this series goes in the future. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
There are many romances with aliens, but this time the idea for the book turned out to be refreshing. We finally don't have stories of alien abduction or dying races in need of human women as a breeder for the survival of their species. This time the author takes us into a world where aliens are elementals hiding among humans, while protecting them from Chaos that wants to wreak havoc. When Levi meets Brook, there is an immediate attraction between them. However, the relationship between elementals and humans is forbidden. Things get even more complicated when it turns out that the woman is a Sleeper, a human with a gene that has hidden elemental powers and can be used by Chaos as a source of destruction. I liked this book. The story is a slow burn romance. My rating for steamy scenes is 3/5. However, the main plot of the fight between good and evil is full of action. The heroes are well created, which meant that I followed their fates with interest. The book is well written and I was happy to be drawn into the world built by the author. I think that the story of Levi and Brook is a good start to the series and I will definitely pick up the next part. I hope the second book will be about the grumpy Ajax, whose character intrigued me.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Just reading this first book of this new series, I can already tell this is going to be such a great reading bundle series. If you are a fan of fantasy, paranormal, and romantic stories, you will enjoy this first book in the series. Morgan does such a great job in keeping its readers engaged and eager to know what will happen next. Elementals are part-human individuals with the ability of elemental properties (earth, wind, fire, etc). These Elemental Warriors are brought to Earth, most especially to Topaz Ridge, to help seek and kill Chaolts, those who bring supernatural disasters and chaos with them. In comes the Fire Elemental, Levi, whose chance meeting with the girl with a beautiful smile brings the unexpected. As Levi patrols through the streets of Topaz Ridge, he bumps into Brooke, an up and coming graphic designer at a local newspaper. The attraction builds towards one another at this random meeting and it is intensified after an explosion happens in Brooke’s apartment building. Levi ends up going in to save Brooke and starts making some interesting discoveries along the way that involve the strange occurrences and even with Brooke herself.
Burn is the first book in the Elemental Warriors series. This was a really good read. The story was captivating from the very beginning. I loved the immediate attraction between Levi and Brooke but also how the secrets start to unravel in regards to Levi been an Elemental and Brooke a Sleeper.
Levi is an Elemental who's job is to protect earth from Chaos. He is also tasked with finding Sleepers (humans with Elemental powers). He need to find and protect them before they fall into the hands of Chaolt. Chaolt are out to find the Sleepers and use their hidden power to destroy and cause chaos in the human world.
The attraction between Levi and Brooke is instant but Elementals aren't allowed to get involved with humans and with the added complications of Brookes hidden power it's a relationship that is doomed to not work. However she seems to be the cool water to his scorching fire.
It was a fast paced story full of passion however its also a story of Forbidden Love as they aren't meant to be together. Levi's job is to protect her from evil not to fall in love with her.
I can't wait to see where this series will go. And I'm looking forward to book 2
Overall this was a really good start to a series and I’m excited to read more. The story involved Elemental warriors that are basically aliens that protect the planet by finding those with latent Elemental powers before the enemy does. If the powers are found and activated by the chaos then natural disasters can happen on a large or small scale. I find this really interesting and I like how it was subtlety mentioned that there are other rare elements besides the big four. Brooke and Levi have a ton of chemistry and there was a fair amount of steam. Sometimes the insta love/connection isn’t favorable but Levi was protective and adorable and the couple had many obstacles to face together. My only negative is that I thought parts of the plot were a little convoluted because there seemed to be rules of the Elementals that were just made up to suit the story. A really good read and I can’t wait to read more! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
