Summary:This book is all about boats! Boats are a great way for transportation and there are so many different types of boat people can use. Each boat has a different purpose and this books explains it all.
Review: “Boats” is a great way to show children the various types of boats there are in our world. The book shows not only small boats and their purpose but also medium and large boats. I think this book has a lot of important information about boats and would be a good resource for someone who is interested in boats or for someone who wants to learn more about them.
Other book connections: This book can be used to discuss with a unit of transportation. A book that can be used with this text is “Transportation, Then and Now” by Robin Nelson. This book can be used to teach about the different types of cars back in the day to the present. Both of these texts can be used with a unit on transportation.
Quote: “People have traveled on water ever since someone first climbed on a floating log to cross a river. From this early beginning, boats have been designed to help people do what they want- whether it’s to cross an ocean, earn a living, explore the unknown, or spend a quiet afternoon enjoying the water”. This book can be used as a mentor text with a unit on transportation. Students can use this book to see the different ways people have traveled over water for thousands of years and how the each boat has a different purpose.
