Dark Empire #4

Shifting Power

Rate this book
The only thing that never changes is that everything changes.

A sinister dark web niche for bored rich people with a depraved need to watch sexual decadences have put their money into a project to give them just that. High-end entertainment with lots of violence and lots of sex.
The gladiators have three things in common: They’ve been kidnapped, pumped full of drugs to enhance their strength and stamina, and nobody would ever miss them. Except Duncan, who ended up strapped to a lab table as a result of mixed identities.

To save his life’s work, Dr. Malcom shares everything he knows with the man who holds it all in the palm of his hand. He even submits fully to let the man know what power he holds.
For someone not having learned what Dr. Malcom did while fighting to become the doctor he is today, power can be dangerous, and Dr. Malcom will once again do anything to make sure his dream survives.
But the rich people who want their entertainment aren’t too thrilled at Dr. Malcom dropping the ball, and one of them takes drastic measures to ensure his investment in the Dark Empire.

Duncan and Axel are slowly settling into a life with a bleak future compared to what they’d planned. No one knows what the future holds for them, so they decide to build a new one. One that revolves around the doctor who made Duncan into an incubus. If anyone can save Duncan and Axel’s future, it’s him. Having to go to extreme measures just for the hope of that to be possible is a price they’re willing to pay for love. But that price isn’t simple or pretty, and their world view continues to be challenged as the doctor’s true nature is revealed.

Their enemy isn’t who they thought.

Meraki P. Dark is, as the last name suggests, the dark side of Meraki P. Lyhne.

Where Meraki P. Lyhne will play with anything from fluffy slow-burns with HEA and go to the border of dub-con, letting his characters deliver a striped ass, Meraki P. Dark will explore the depraved minds during non-con, and he’ll play with whatever fetish catches his attention.

It is the human psyche and its abilities to stretch or break that will be explored to its fullest. There will always be a plot—no one is tortured unless the character finds a good reason for it within the plot. There is room for love and tender moments, too, but they have to work hard for it!

This is the fourth book of the series. The series till now has been very dark and we have been able to get to know many of the main characters deeply... But this book is a much needed pause for reflection.

I found that this book gave access to the inner thoughts of the characters. The main concepts are change and power... and so it is more a reflection on how that has been affecting everyone involved in this story.

Yes, it is slower but deeper... It is still dark and in synch with the rest of the series and I belive it will help the reader better understand the rest of what is coming.

This book was a little disappointing for me this time. I liked the other books, but this was just boring with not important and dry scenes. I couldn't enjoy it at all, and the 'dark' scenes weren't as good either.

I still like Dr. Malcom, but I don't know what to think about Duncan and especially Axel. The storyline was good but slow. I really hoped much from this book and now I don't know if I want the last book or not.

I really enjoyed reading this book. We got more insight into the minds of the people who were a part of the Ring and how they are changing things. What can make a person tick they way they do and what does it take to change a persons way of thinking? Is there really a right and wrong way? I love the mind of this author and can't wait for more.

Lots of food for thought. The series remains as fascinating as ever.

I really love this series. This book was not my favorite though. I found it interesting to learn about the Ring and how the power gets shifted from Sire to pet. But there was a lot of talking. Not a lot of action. I'm hoping that the final book picks up and has more action to it.

Back to where we need to be to go forward - can’t stop reading this series and very afraid of that it will be end to soon.

Wow I am overwhelmed and a bit drained by the whole dark and wonderful world - give some time to find the right word to write down, but one thing I know for sure - you have to read it the whole series!

Such an impressive mind management with mind fucking in a sort of unbelievable believable!

As with the previous novels in the Dark Empire series, Meraki P. Dark has created such intriguing characters who are dealing with so much trauma. I find this series so utterly compelling. I've read every book in one sitting because they are just so compelling with twists that are at times just so unexpected. This installment feels like a bridge text building to the final novel in the series, but we also get to build even better understanding of the motivations of the characters, which is vital. Content warning for graphic on-page sexual violence and non/dub-con.

This unfortunately wasn't my favorite so far of the series. I found it a bit slow and not easy for me to read. I did like it though because it got you to more into the minds of the characters. Especially how the power exchanges go, Malcom had come to the conclusion (not really a spoiler) to teach Duncan about the responsibilities of having power.

".....Power can be granted and taken away. It can even be conquered. If one understands power before using it, one will obtain success. The sexual aspect of it is just that because it's an integral part of being human. And it's the fastest way into someone's head....."

This story didn't have a lot of action, it was more about how everyone adapts to changes. And what Malcolm will do to save his life's work.
