“I love everything about this . . . I could not put it down . . . kept me at the edge of my seat, and I did not want it to end.” —Amazon reviewer, five stars
A little old lady turns vigilante on the streets of London, in this gritty, witty crime thriller.
Gloria Jones has had enough. She’s sixty-five, approaching retirement, and nearing the end of her tether.
When someone disposes of a gun in her local park, it ends up in Gloria’s hands and changes the course of her life forever.
Realizing there is injustice all around, Gloria finds herself transforming from a harmless senior into a confident and ruthless vigilante, determined to help victims of crime.
And so begins a taking revenge against violent criminals and helping those who can’t help themselves. After all, who’s going to question an elderly woman seemingly just going about her business?
But now that she’s fully committed to this new life, can she get away with it—or has she crossed a line?
Okay so my last review was removed. In this book you have a black guy with a gun, whos a drug dealer, two black drug dealers and three Asian teenagers that rob little old white women. These are all killed by yep you guessed it a white vigilante grandma. At no point in the book is there any character that is either black or asian painted in a positive light. This author then chose to slander me all over twitter and blocked me when I responded. This book has such an unhealthy narrative. With many racial sterotypes. I tried to be polite but this is absolute garbage.
I’m not sure why I bothered finishing this. I expected a funny, silly story about a badass old lady. Instead I got stupid coincidences and stupid character motivations which I could have looked past if it wasn’t for the blatant discrimination as well as aggression towards substance abuse victims (instead of trying to fix the underlying problem?!). I honestly thought this was meant to be ironic at first.
Set in 1998–1999, Bang Bang, You’re Dead tells the entertaining, action-packed story of Gloria Jones and her one-woman crusade to rid the country of some nasty criminals!
Gloria is nearly 65 and lives in a third-floor flat on New Compton Street in the West End of London. She’s widowed after the death of her husband, Graham, who passed away from liver failure less than 10 months after their son, Darren. He was a heroin addict and died 10 years ago from septicaemia after sharing a needle. She has a daughter, Sandra, who lives in Newcastle with her family.
Gloria works four days a week at the local Department of Social Security office but often does extra hours and covers for colleagues. She also works in local soup kitchens and drug treatment centres once a week to help street beggars, drug users and the homeless.
As she nears retirement, Gloria is getting fed up with the problems in the streets around her home – violent drug users are regularly shooting up in nearby doorways, in full view of everyone, and leaving their discarded paraphernalia behind. She’s been shouted at and threatened and was even attacked at a cashpoint a few weeks before.
One evening, while smoking at her open lounge window, Gloria hears a disturbance and watches two uniformed police officers chasing a man, who throws something over the fence into the local park, Phoenix Gardens. When she goes to investigate the following morning, Gloria discovers a black handgun in a thick patch of stinging nettles. She decides to put the gun in her handbag, take it home and contact the police.
She’s just reached her block of flats when she’s attacked by a couple of drug users who she’s had a run in with before. They smash her face into the door and punch her in the side to try and get her to release her grip on her handbag. But Gloria stands firm and is helped by a neighbour who hears the disturbance, opens the door and scares the couple off.
Later, after a visit to the hospital to check her injuries, Gloria tries unsuccessfully to contact the police to tell them about the gun so she decides to take it there in person. It’s now getting dark and as she makes her way to Holborn police station, she’s horrified to come across the woman who attacked her earlier. Again, she tries to steal her bag but Gloria is fed up of being frightened and she decides to wave the gun to scare her. When the woman takes out a knife, Gloria panics and shoots her and when the woman’s boyfriend appears after hearing the gunfire, she shoots him too!
At first, Gloria is horrified by what she’s done and feels awful but then she surmises that no one will miss these people and they got what they deserved. And there begins Gloria’s new role as a vigilante who rids the country of horrible criminals who are threatening others and ruining people’s lives. When her daughter’s family in Newcastle get caught up in their own problems with drug dealers, Gloria knows she has to help out.
The local police set up an incident room called Operation Chiddingstone and investigate the various murders and interview hundreds of suspects but struggle to find any leads, never suspecting for one moment that the killings are being carried out by a little old lady!
Gloria is a great protagonist – she’s fearless, reckless and brave and I was really rooting for her and hoping there would be a positive resolution in this crazy situation! She had some good friends who looked out for her, including a local police sergeant, Sean Aylen, and her old school friend, Lily, from Bristol.
I really enjoyed the police procedural parts and all the investigations, watching the police being clueless about what was going on. It was also fun to read about all the news headlines and see them hunting for the man who’d committed these awful serial killings!
Overall, I really enjoyed Bang Bang, You’re Dead! It’s amusing and great fun! It’s rather far fetched and I had to suspend disbelief at times but it’s all part of the story’s charm and its uniquely different premise. The novel is well written and cleverly plotted and flows well, with plenty of action. There were lots of twists and turns and I was imagining all kinds of conclusions. I was gripped and enjoyed seeing Gloria get more and more embroiled in things as the story progressed. I never knew what was going to happen next and the engaging storyline was tense at times and kept me on my toes! A great debut novel and I hope the author is already writing another book!
My thoughts about this brilliantly written outstanding book, was just fantastic.Debut Author Evan Baldock who was an ex police officer, has written a powerful story that deals with criminals, who are a disease to the nation. The story is about Pensioner Gloria Jones, who has had enough of robbers, drugs dealers, and rapists attacking innocent people on the streets. One day Gloria finds a gun, and she decides to hand it in to the police, when she's on her way to the police station, she gets attacked and an incident happens, that changes her life forever. This is a outstanding story, that not only it takes Gloria, to a new self discovery, but she becomes a heroine, that will not stop at anything to help others, if criminals are a disease, then Gloria is the cure for the criminals. Debut Author Evan Baldocks's Bang Bang You're Dead, is one of those books you have to read. Evan's writing style is just mindblowing, loved how he writes a outstanding character, that is truly a dark knight we all need in today's times. A well written complex masterpiece, that truly will blow you away, amazing characters, a hardhiting story that will take you on a journey of self discovery. This is one of the best debuts in crime fiction, Highly recommended. I would like to say thank you to Author Evan Baldock, and publishers Red Dog Books, for giving me a chance to read and review, this hardhiting story. 💥💥💥💥💥⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I received this book from the publisher for the Blog Tour in exchange of an honest review.
I was so hyped for this book which is about an older woman taking matters in her own hands when she finds a gun. In my pre-review (for my blog tour, as I just couldn’t read this book in one day I had before my tour (which was a surprise)) I said I was enjoying the book, and I can tell you now, I enjoyed the rest of the 80% of the book as well! OK, the ending was a bit wobbly, but in overall I really really enjoyed this book and Gloria was kick-ass.
I loved how much this felt like Death Note. A series (anime/manga, not the horrendous terrible emo adaptation for live action) I just love to bits. In that one a person, named Light, gets a notebook that allows him to murder people. At first he goes for the bad guys (by watching newsreports etc.), later he turns to much darker things. Along with that we see the police/L trying to find Light and get justice. Though I always thought that L had more reasons than to catch Light. In this book our awesome girl Gloria finds a gun, uses it accidentally at first, but then decides to clean up people who are bad/doing bad things. Along the way we see how she turns more and more into a killer and even starts to plan things. Thankfully, she doesn’t really turn to the bad side or go powermad just like Light did (though at one point I did think she would given what happened). She stays mostly human which made me happy. I still don’t fully agree with what she did, I would never say OK to murder, but I can understand why she went the route she took. Just like we see many times in the book, a lot of people are supporting the vigilante, a lot of them may not be OK with the methods used, but they are happy that they can live more safely at least.
Along with Gloria’s POV we also see the police’s POV and see how they are struggling, trying to find out who it is. While I was more interested in Gloria’s POV, I do appreciate that the police POV is added as it gave some more insight in things.
We also get a short POV of one of the big criminals who owned the gun.
I have to say I was a bit hesitant about Jules and how she acted. I kept thinking she would double cross Gloria. I was hoping she was a real friend, someone to trust, but I also know that she would benefit greatly if she told anyone all that she knows.
I liked how Gloria changed through the story but still remained pretty human in it all. I did have a laugh at how she said the first 4 people she shot were accidental/not on purpose. Um, I would believe the first two people yes, but the next? I am sorry, Gloria, no no, I don’t believe that given what you did.
The first 4 murders were pretty much unplanned, but the next ones got increasingly organised and it was pretty interesting to see how Gloria planned so much. She got changes of clothes, did something to her hair, and other things. She knew how to check her gun and how it worked. She made sure to not leave any traces. She planned excuses and alibis, she checked the CCTV stuff, and so on. The one with her family and drugsdealers was the biggest planning of them all. I was amazed though that throughout the entire book she was a great shooter despite never seemingly having shot anything. I know this may sound odd, but in other books and movies when people shoot for the first time it is generally not that easy, and even later it takes practice (and looking at things like the Olympics were people have to ski/shoot they don’t always shoot dead centre).
But then around 75% we find out about the letter sender.. and sorry I wasn’t a too big fan of that part. I would have rather seen a whole different turn to the events. The story is already over the top, and now it just went too far over the top in my opinion. And it turned the book into another direction.. so while the last 25% had some good stuff, it wasn’t the best part of the book for me. Also holy freak at Gloria’s solution to the problem. OK. steps away from Gloria I did have a giggle at the reactions of Sean and Jules. The ending felt a bit weird to me, I am happy though, so a bit mixed feelings. On the one hand, Yes, on the other hand, wait what?
But in overall this was a great book and I definitely enjoyed reading it. Thank you to the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this one. I would recommend it to all. Gloria is a great character, but be sure to not mess with her. This woman can shoot! The story was interesting and exciting. It may get a bit gory at times, so be warned.
Gloria is a delightful anti-heroine - and I loved her.
The story of how she becomes a vigilante is a fabulous fantasy that is so easy to identify with - which of us hasn't yearned for revenge at some time? The pace is compelling and I couldn't stop reading. Every time you think things couldn't get worse, they do - the stakes get higher, and Gloria somehow ends up in more and more danger which she faces head-on.
Evan Baldock's background in the police force means this romp is solidly based in reality, which makes it easy to suspend disbelief for the space of the story. I was so worried for Gloria, I was at one point counting bullets...
The only thing I didn't want to believe in was Gloria's retirement from her retirement!
Brilliant storytelling, with relatable characters and plenty of twists and turns which kept surprising me.
Well Red Dog Press has done it again, not only have they provided a fantastic book, with an amazing cover but they have found me another author to add to the favourites list.
This fantastic debut novel gives us a unique villain. Remember when we were all kids and we played up for our parents having no fear of there threats but then they threatened you with your gran and you suddenly changed your attitude.
Gloria Jones is a sweet loveable old woman, she cares about her family, and the community of the people around her, what she doesn't care for is the low life scum that is terrorising her and her neighbourhood. Gloria has had enough and she takes being the granny to fear to the next level.
Gloria is a character that will stay with me for a long, long time. She was incredibly well written, she became a vigilante for the great or good and you can not help but fall in love with her.
So I ended up reading this book in a day which isn’t something I normally do! But I just didn’t want to put it down!
This is the story of a granny turned vigilante and if that doesn’t get you interested then nothing will!
This book contains an interesting array of characters, of course Gloria our main character is the most interesting but there are plenty of other characters which I enjoyed. A personal favourite is Lily, Gloria’s close friend, she provides some great comic relief.
I enjoyed the fact that we also got to see the police’s perspective of the investigation into this new vigilante. It was interesting getting a glimpse into how a case like this might operate for the police and the pressures they can be put under.
One really fascinating question brought up by this book was the view the public may take towards a vigilante who is seen to be targeting less desirable members of the community. Would you support a vigilante if they seemed to be improving the community through murder?
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable read that I would highly recommend! A bit more lighthearted than many crime novels but just as good!
Given the author's background as an ex-police officer, 'Bang Bang, You're Dead' is surprisingly devoid of empathy towards its characters, offering a harsh and unrefined portrayal of societal issues related to drugs. The protagonist's motivation to murder substance abusers seems grossly inconsistent and illogical, especially considering she lost her own son to drug addiction. Yet, here she is, claiming that murdering these people doesn't matter because their lives simply don't matter. This would be understandable if she were portrayed as a psycho, but instead, she's deemed a hero! I won't even delve into the blatant racist undertones that permeate the storyline. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Gloria is 65 years old and approaching her retirement, she is a widow whose son died after becoming an addict. Life is pretty good Gloria works for the DSS (it’s set in the 90’s), has some good friends, a daughter and her family up in Newcastle and she’s a volunteer in her local community.
She lives in Central London it’s a lovely, amazingly quiet area given how close to the hustle and bustle she is – or at least it was! For sometime now the area has become a place where drugs are traded and with that has seen crimes, such as muggings, increase. Increasingly it is feeling less safe, Gloria sees the area becoming more run down, sees crimes being committed and is even attacked herself. It shakes her up, she’s angry and fed up. Then later from her flat window she sees a man, being chased by police, throw something away in close by gardens.
Wondering what it was Gloria goes to check it out and finds a gun! She’s on her way to the police station to hand it in when she is confronted by the two addicts who tried to mug her earlier, she feels threatened and reaching into her bag she brings out the gun. She hopes to frighten them off but to no avail and Gloria snaps! She shoots them both!
And so begins Gloria’s vigilante days.
Gloria is troubled how could she have done it? She expects the Police to come for her. She is mortified. Then she realises that the Police investigation is getting nowhere.
Over the coming weeks Gloria takes the law into her owns hands when she hears of those criminals threatening and committing violence in similar circumstances. All over the country. Whilst the Police seem to be barking up the wrong tree Gloria realises someone knows what she has done.
What a great idea! Even though murder is nothing to laugh at or support whoever the victims are there’s a little part of you that thinks otherwise, that sympathises with those communities being affected and can see why Gloria has taken this path.
There may be times when you’re baffled by the ineptitude of the Police. There may even be the odd suspension of belief because Gloria does seem to be more than lucky in keeping suspicion at bay.
There is one thing I think can be agreed on and that’s what a good job Evan Baldock has done in bringing us the ultimate antihero in Gloria. You can’t help liking her even if you don’t like what she does! She’s a terrific character.
There is suspense, fear and a grittiness to this story. It’s an unbelievable yet believable story, a story with a dark side to it and which, sadly, reflects what does often happen in today’s society with regards to drugs and drug related crime. It’s quite a debut novel. I very much enjoyed it.

Do check out the rest of the Bang Bang, You’re Dead BlogTour.
Many thanks to Red Dog Press for the invite to this BlogTour and an eCopy of Bang Bang, You’re Dead by Evan Baldock. All thoughts are my own and I have not received any payment for this review.
This book is so much fun! Are you annoyed with alluring assassins and tired with tempting terminators? Then you need to glorious geriatric Gloria in your lives, ladies and gentlemen!
Gloria Jones is nearing retirement and looking forward to taking things easy, but she is fed up with the violent, drug addicted low-lives who seem to ever more prevalent of the streets around her London flat. She has always been a law abiding citizen, but it seems that the police are unable to tackle the problem, and she has to bear daily witness to the misery being caused to ordinary people going about their daily lives.
When Gloria is threatened and assaulted on her own doorstep, she knows she is close to breaking point. Some thing has to be done! And that something turns out to be the actions of Gloria herself when she comes across a discarded gun in a local park. It may happen by accident, but Gloria actually makes makes a rather good, if unlikely, vigilante, drawing on an inner strength and a set of skills that she didn't know she possessed.
Gloria is all set to take the fight right to the scumbags and, boy, does she get good at it. In fact her success gets her the attention of, not only the police, but some very unpleasant characters along the way - but no spoilers now.
I really enjoyed Evan Bladock's portrayal of Gloria as a gun-toting saviour on the streets. She comes across well as a normal grandmother, driven to extraordinary lengths by what she sees going on around her, and it was very refreshing to read about an older woman, with intelligence and skills, for a change - and she is not the only strong female character here either. Bravo, Evan!
Interestingly, this book also asks some very thought provoking questions in the telling, about modern policing; the problem of persistent low-level crime (especially drug related crime); the rise in gun-related violence; and the opinions of the general public in relation to people who find themselves taking the law into their own hands.
There is plenty of suspense, a sprinkling of dark humour, and the ending goes with a suitably big bang. Or is it a bang bang? There is scope here for more of Gloria Jones in the future, and I really hope Evan finds himself wanting to write more about her, because I am certainly up for reading it.
First off this is an awesome book! The premise is so unusual - who has a killer granny for gods sake in their books? It was just nutty. I love this book - it started with a bang and kept delivering the hits right until the final pages. I think I could see another book coming out with Gloria at the helm. Well I am hoping this is the case as I want to know more of her story. The best books always leave you wanting more. Please Evan do another with these characters.
I can’t imagine how people survive on estates all over the country where they have to live in fear from drugs and crime. It must be terrifying and it is very easy to believe how someone could snap and just not put up with it anymore. However, this is where the but comes in. As a committed pacifist I just can’t condone the actions - don’t know how this is weighed up with me being a crime buff but hey lets go with it. I have to believe in the justice system however flawed and underfunded that may be. But as a book and entertainment value this novel is the bee knees. It’s just so darn real and funny. Gloria is like all your aunts and grannies rolled into one. You just can’t help but like her even when she is killing people!
The narrative in this book is slightly different from the norm as you know who the killer is, you like the killer and you don’t really want the police to catch up with our Glo! The mystery in this book is who knows about Gloria and her actions as there are definitely people out there who do and make that clear to her. Well with their identities hidden, hence the mystery. I actually really liked this part of the story as I can imagine that this would happen and does happen to people. But what will happen if there are consequences for her actions? Can’t really say too much more or spoilers will occur and we can’t have that!
I really enjoyed this book and it should be on your radar! It’s a 4.5⭐️ review from me!
I'm still doubtful on this one. Showed up on my Amazon page after reading Exit, looked fun so I gave it a go. I stayed up late whether it was the book, boredom or too much coffee, either way gets a star for that. I didn't find Gloria that likeable. This was the granny that lashed out, was overly opinionated and after a couple of kills under her belt, went full murderer/professional hitwoman. Over confident, swearing and pretty much playing judge and executioner. It was interesting, what with hiding the gun in the cornflake box. Not sure how the police were so blind. I did like Sean and Julie coming on board, but not the lies or alibi.

When Gloria Jones, a sixty-five year old lady collects per accident a gun she saw being thrown into her local park, after she has been abused several times in the streets nearby her home. She piks it up and stuff it into here bag. But her decision to turn it in is quickly scuppered after she’s been attacked again on her way to the police station. Using the gun to make her attackers back off, she accidentally pulls the trigger.... At that moment, her life changes forever.
As she struggles to come to terms with what she’s done, Gloria begins to realise there is injustice all around and finds herself transforming from a shy, peaceful woman into a confident and ruthless vigilante, determined to help victims of crime unable to defend themselves. A book full of tension, scumbags and revenge!!
This book is well written. A story you won't soon forget.
I definitely plan to read part 2 of this series as well. To learn more about Gloria's adventures. A fantastic book that I can definitely recommend to you readers.
This is a book which has completely exceeded my expectations and been so much better than I expected. It is absolutely fantastic to read and a book I can highly recommend.
I’ve loved Gloria, she is an absolutely wonderful main character. We see how she becomes a vigilante and gets into more and more danger.
This is definitely a book which I have been hoping for. It has been a great rainy afternoon distraction and one which I have devoured in one sitting. This book is well-written and I have found the author’s style engaging. I have literally been transported while reading this one.
I absolutely cannot believe that this is a debut novel. An author can really capture their audience with debut novels and this has definitely converted me as a fan.
This book was everything I was hoping it would be and more! I absolutely loved going into the world of Gloria and finding out more about her. I loved Gloria and her passion especially for her family. I recommend this book to everyone. It was a real page turner of a book and had so many twists and turns that I had to keep reading on to find out what happened.

I wanted to enjoy this one, but it was just lacking.
I loved the storyline and the premise of the book; however, the dialogue and characters were so hard to bring to life (I would say every single character had the personality of a wet wipe). Everything reads in monotone which, for me, made it feel like I was reading a report, the years of police work and reports definitely reflects in the writing style of Baldock.
The twist at the end regarding the Higgins family, I enjoyed, but it felt rushed and like it was only there to prevent the book from ending with a cliff hanger, which don't get me wrong, I appreciate. You're telling me a large crime family like the Higgins were able to be taken out like that, and that there was no one else under their grasp who is now out for Gloria and co?
I was never truly hooked, I think I could've put the book down at any time and walked away without being seriously drawn back to it. However, like I stated earlier, the story was good and it's an easy read, so I saw it through to the end.
3 stars- I didn't hate it, but I probably won't be reading it again or recommending.

OMG!!! What a ride loved Gloria from page 1 what a grandma she sure has a pair!!. A real page turner, Didn't expect the ending. 5 * highly recommended. Mr Baldock will Gloria return? please say yes.
Gloria (Glo) Jones is a delightful old lady, a kindly grandma that you’d expect to serve you up milk and cookies. And she would, but she also has a dark side. After seeing a drug dealer toss a gun into undergrowth near her home, Glo goes and finds it. She intends to hand it into the police, but she is attacked by two petty criminals and finds the Glock 17 is more easy to use than expected. She shoots and kills with deadly aplomb. Now rightly worried that the police will want her for the murders she hides the weapon – I loved the choice of a half full Kellogs Cornflakes box.
But as luck would have it, the police think the deaths are gang related. She decides to dispose of the gun and we get humourous attempts such as through train windows that don’t open and in the Bristol canal—where she’s interrupted by a boatman who thinks the gun is a cigarette lighter. And then she comes across a crime being committed in an underpass and bang bang, two more criminals are dead. And so starts Glo’s new career as a vigilante. Lots of action in a variety of British towns kept the pages turning.
This a debut novel by an ex-policeman and the knowledge of police language and procedure is clear and convincing. It’s well-written and there’s plenty of subtle humour. At times I was reminded of Tommy and Tuppence by Agatha Christie which has similar delightful humour and dialogue. The ending is dramatic and we aren’t sure how things will play out with Jules and Sean whose motives I doubted. However we see how cold and clinical Gloria has become as she’s developed.
This is undoubtedly the first in a great series and I highly recommend it for being slightly off-beat and unpredictable. 5 bang bang daggers from me.
This book is the debut from Evan Baldock and one I’ve been Anticipating for a while, from following the guys at Red Dog and Evan on Twitter.
I couldn’t have been happier when a copy came through my letterbox.
So the story is about Gloria Jones. She’s knocking on the door of retirement. She lives in a bit of run down area where crime is rife. One day Gloria is accosted by two down and outs, after her handbag for their ill gotten gains.
Gloria soon witnesses another crime, one that ends up with Gloria finding herself in possession of a gun. Gloria Snaps..
The absolute crackerjack thriller that is then unleashed by debut author Evan Baldock is nothing short of brilliant.
A granny vigilante. Guns, Bad guys and blood and guts..
This Book is a gem. Of course you need to suspend belief but Isn’t that what reading is all about?
In the unbelievable times we currently exist, this wickedly entertaining tale from Baldock serves up the perfect Tonic as I lost myself in Gloria’s mad world as she travels the length and breadth of England. No one is safe.
It’s a mishmash of things. Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry, Micheal Caine in Harry Brown, Micheal Douglas in Falling Down and Robin Williams in Mrs Doubtfire 😂
As you whiz along with the events of this unique and superb story you wander how is this going to end, how can this end well. AlI can say is it ends up brilliantly and with your jaw dropped.
This is entertaining stuff, it’s serious to and there are real issues written by Evan Baldock, and there is a very good police procedural amongst these pages.
I loved my time with Gloria, it’s a devious, compelling, fast paced thrill ride, full of heart stopping moments
An exciting, exhilarating, and intoxicating debut.
I loved this. It oozes with spirit and dark humour as a pensioner is pushed too far.
One accident with a gun gives Gloria back the power she felt she’d lost in her life and thought she’d not get back. It sends her on a three month reign of terror as she looks at ‘deserving’ cases for her brand of justice.
She looks coolly and dispassionately at those on the receiving end of the gun, by what they’ve done and carefully considers what to do.
But can she stop? Is she in deeper than she realises or can she walk away undetected as people start to notice her movements?
You have to read this. Dark humour and a free day of reading time are a must for this book to be enjoyed.
I was waiting for this book to be released eagerly and loved every second of reading it. A well deserved five star read.
Fairly obviously, my review wasn’t posted on the date I was meant to as I didn’t have a clue I was even on the tour. I’ve had to juggle when I was posting to fit it on a day when I didn’t have other tours on. I was more than happy to do so after finding out I was on the tour because this was one I was really looking forward to reading!
This is a fast, fun and fabulous read about grandma Gloria turned vigilante, Gloria. After finding a gun in a park then being threatened, Gloria inadvertently kills her attackers. Fed up of police being less than useless with the low-level crime in her area, Gloria starts to take matters into her own hands.
I honestly don’t think I have ever laughed so much whilst reading a suspense thriller. I could really empathise with Gloria, so often it feels like there’s plenty of crime in the area and as though nothing is being done about it. She felt so real that I felt bad for wanting her to get away with it!
There are plenty of twists and turns throughout the story to keep you guessing. I had no idea what was going to happen in the end and found the story well written and engaging throughout.
I hadn’t realised that this was a debut novel as it’s so well written! A hysterically funny book with a lot of heart! I definitely recommend this one.
I liked everything about this book. From the lead character to the twisting, turning storyline, it was an amusing, quirky, page-turner. It kept reminding me of a series of vigilante movies, except this hero was an aging senior citizen leveling out justice to the criminals. I am eagerly awaiting Mr. Baldock's next novel, published by Red Dog Press.
Absolutely fantastic book - I would love to see this on screen with Annette Crosbie in the title role- I like to think there’s a little bit of Gloria Jones out there waiting to avenge the wrongs of the human race
This book shocked me and made me giggle in parts. I love Gloria! I really enjoyed the story, cant wait to read the next one. I felt the ending was abit rushed, but other than that it was fab!
This is a great book in the genre of "old folks getting peevish at the modern world." But unlike almost all of the other series, the book is a realistic exploration of what actually happens when an old woman seeks revenge.
WAY better than most of the contemporary novels in this sub-genre
Quite unreal..... but truly captivating anyway..... Who hasn't wished the world as more just place? 😉 I can recommend this if you want to relax with a book that doesn't take to much thinking along the way....
I found a whole concept of this book a bit strange, but I kept reading it, so I guess it wasn’t that bad. It also sounds like there might be a sequel. I will have to decide when the time comes whether I will want to read anymore.
