This was pretty much what I was expecting. It was fun but unsatisfying.
Mostly because the heroine, Billie, was such a limp dish rag. Sheesh.

This is a spoilery review... just so you know.

I didn't hate this one but I also didn't like it much. I just couldn't get into the story and I felt like there wasn't enough world building to truly understand what the characters were going through.

I've come to expect some real heart-wrenching situations from Jaymin Snow's works in the short time I've been reading her, and Billie's upbringing and constant suppression by her pack did not disappoint. Even though Billie was repeatedly beat down and suffocated by those who were supposed to love and support her--her adoptive family, her pack, her mate--she didn't let that break her spirit, and I just loved her. I was kinda pissed at how Gavin never really apologized to Billie for all of the crappy things he said to her in the beginning of the novel, but I was satisfied with how things ended.

Tropes: fated mates, rejected mates, tragic past, broken heroine, found family, OW drama (one cheating scene?)

I love a good rejected mate romance, but it has to be executed correctly. I've read plenty of books that fail miserably at this trope. Luckily, this was not one of them.

Billie had always been the runt of her pack, sheltered, beat down, and suffocated by her adoptive family. When she finally manages to shift one night, she runs into Gavin, an Alpha for a neighbouring pack, who has always treated her like trash and is her vindictive adoptive sister's boyfriend, and discovers that she is his mate.

I really enjoyed this book. For me, it was a quick and easy read. The drama, angst, and emotional back and forth between the two main characters kept me engrossed throughout.

My only complaint was that I felt Billie should have stood up for herself more, and she was extremely childlike in her thoughts and actions, which I could understand to a point given how sheltered she was.

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Def. One of the better rejected mate stories I’ve read.

I liked Billie and her story. I think Gavin needed some more groveling though for being a dk for a while and being so mean during his rejected. There was like no suffering grovel

He touched her and it was it.

But I did like the general plot and colt. Jeeeez. I wasn’t sure about him from the beginning. I was just curious how it would turn out. David. What a sick fk. And the sister. Btch.

It wasn't bad, I just couldn't connect to the MCs and didn't like the direction of the plot.

I need to feel the pain and heartache in these types of books and want some groveling of the one who rejects the other. But here, both MCs didn't really care, so I lost interest.
I might pick it up again, but for now, it just didn't work for me.

Nothing has compared to Run Posy Run yet, but I'll continue my search for good rejected mates books and am open for recs!

Initially I was so excited to read this book because it's rare to find a Rejected mate book where the fated mates still end up together even though one is rejecting the other. Ultimately this book fell short for me.

When the book started, it had a bit of a bully book feel to it, which I loved. The problem was that I never really felt that the MMC redeamed himself. I also didn't really feel the chemistry between the characters. The MMC showed more feeling and sympathy towards the OW who had been manipulating him than he did his fated mate. I also didn't like that there was so much hinted at intimacy between the H and the OW, even though off page.

As far as the overall story, more time was spent describing things and world building than the interaction between the main characters and their relationship developement. The one, maybe two intimate scenes we got were lack luster.

Also to note, there was a detailed hunting scene while the mfc was in wolf form, involving a baby deer that I didn't feel was necessary to be so descriptive. I read dark romance and while I'm ok with most situations involving humans, animals are a different story. I would have liked a content warning. Even though its a shifter book, I honestly hadn't read one with so much detail being given to hunting their prey before.

Overall, the writing was very good and I liked the concept of the story. I just wasn't a fan of the execution.

This would probably be a great book for those who prefer more world building and less romance and spice.

This book was a good introduction to a new rejected mates shifter romance series. There was slow-burn chemistry, the pain of rejection, the tension of mounting threats, and the well-planned world-building. It's a departure from my first bite of Jaymin Snow in "Rejected by Her Alpha Mate", but it was a romance that held my attention from start to finish.

I felt the rejection could’ve been a little better and reasonings for it. Catarina is … wow! I have no words, but any interaction with her has my gut clenching. Billie is absolutely amazing. So much character growth. The emotions simply pour out of her, and I felt her pain, love, sadness—she’s an open book. Gavin … bruh, Gavin was the best. Anti-hero turned hero and his barely restrained control. Yum!

The writing was good and flowed fairly well, but although this is my favourite type of rejected mate trope i just didnt feel it with this book.
When i read a rejection i want to feel the heartache... here, gavin didnt care and billie also didnt care!!! They just didnt care, Gavin didnt want to be with Billie at all and visa versa... then he just sort of changed his mind because the pull from the bond and she just sort of went with it.
Not to mention he was previously in a 5YEAR relationship with Billies adopitive sister and he had slept with her after he knew about his fated mate... if its so easy to do that then whats the point of a fated mate?
This story just wasnt for me.

I'm still reading this, and I'm determined to finish it.

Basic plot..

Billie is the Cinderella wolf shifter of her pack. She hasn't shifted into a wolf, and her father makes her stay in the house because it's just too dangerous for her outside until she does shift. While she stays in the house she does all the menial labor and even cuts and packs the meat that they bring in.

Gavin is the alpha of a neighbor pack that has been with her older sister for five years. He's set to basically marry her sister and combine their two packs and one day take over as leader.

Billie has to wait for her moon dream when she'll transform into a wolf and find out who her fated mate is.

Meanwhile Gavin is turning aggressive and psycho and losing himself because he hasn't found his fated mate yet. And a shifter's fated mate brings them balance. So he won't lose control and turn into a psycho if he finds his fated mate.

Billie winds up just wanting to get out of the house one night and runs off into the forest where she promptly gets stalked and runs off terrified only to have her moon dream, transform into a wolf and find out that Gavin is her fated mate. Of course, at the same time Gavin finds out that she's his fated mate because that's how the bond works.

Gavin is upset because she's weak, small, worthless, a waste of space, ugly, I can probably think of more things..

Enter the next day when Gavin goes to their house because the pack alpha wants him to explain and he knows just what to do, which is to deny Billie, call her all the names *that he actually means, and honestly seems like he's always found her worthless* and basically says he isn't dropping his girlfriend...and the joining of the two packs...because his girlfriend's sister is his fated mate.

Yes, if you think about it logically, it makes no sense.

Anyway, Billie is grounded for being terrible, and eventually she decides she's going to run away and her brother helps her.

I just want to note a couple small things that kind of annoyed me. Because they're small, and not that important really.

Aislin? I think that's her name. She's...the daughter of the Beta of Gavin's pack. She's also the girl that Billie's brother, Colt, is in love with. There is a mention that she doesn't love him back, but only through his POV. And GAVIN makes a note that he thought SHE was going to be his fated mate.

Okay, couple of other things, Gavin's pack is literally 10 people. And supposedly your fated mate is in your own bloodline. So a member of your own pack.

At least the women apparently only transform when they have the moon dream that shows them who their fated mate is, and the fated mate is connected with them so the fated mate knows as well.

This would make sense except it doesn't since it seems like MOST of the wolves haven't had a moon dream and transform anyway. So...why did Billie have to have it to transform? Why was she TAUGHT that she would transform when she had the moon dream.

And then they're all showed their fated mate but apparently its VERY COMMON to ditch your fated mate.

Basically, in a nutshell, the dynamics and world building needs a lot of work.

This feels like a fanfic that's written chapter by chapter and we just add and subtract things that don't work to move the story along.

Billie is not related to the guy she calls her father or her brother and sister. Apparently EVERYONE knows this, except no one really does. And there's a point where her brother Colt says he'll claim her *after she's rejected by Gavin* and they can run away together. She basically says ewww you're my brother and that's weird. And he basically says that it's just to protect her and isn't necessarily sexual. Except he's not her brother, and one of those poor little me Billie moments is that she's just the poor character imposing on the family And that means she's always been brought up as the distant relation, and not really raised as this is my immediate family.

It makes NO SENSE.

Alright, I can honestly say it's not boring. Because something is always happening.

But I don't like the main characters.

Billie is supposedly the kind of abused cinderella character. She has to do all the cleaning and maybe cooking, and every labor there is in the house. It's also kind of hinted at that her father might have some sexual designs on her but... eh.

I don't know what percent I'm at now but that's pretty much a no go and the father figure acts more like he wants her dead than he wants her for his own.

Billie is just....dumb. And I don't mean dumb, I mean lacks any ability to string thoughts together and build a picture.

This girl gets slammed by her supposed fated mate, and it just rolls right off her. I'm just going to guess that her sister's name is Marisa, because I think that's what her name is anyway, but Marisa, Billie's 'sister', is in a five year relationship with Gavin. She's aggressive, he's aggressive, they're both mean. Gavin treats Billie like dog poop that someone he doesn't like has stepped in and is tracking through his house. But GAVIN is the only person who ever listened to anything she had to say in the history of ever. So she likes him?

Nah, she's just wanted to shag her sister's boyfriend for years and now she has an excuse.

Because if this is supposed to be one of those stories where the heroine has always taken the abuse so she just keeps taking it because she doesn't know any better, there should have been a reckoning by now. At some point where she realizes that she LETS people walk all over her and she needs to stop and get away...but no.

Let's talk about Gavin and his worthless self. I can honestly excuse Gavin as being a story about a...17 year old kid who's parents are killed and suddenly he has all this responsibility that he doesn't know what to do with. That's okay. I can see him doing stupid things because he's kind of dumb and he's being pressured.. But no. Not in a romance novel where I'm supposed to believe he's going to find "the one" and live happily ever after. He isn't mature enough for that.

Just no.

There's a whole beginning where Gavin goes crazy and starts fighting during a hunt, encouraged by Marisa. He then winds up going off alone to hunt for his OWN pack, of 10, and goes crazy, attacks some campers and eats their..cooler?

And he THINKS that when he finds his fated mate, she'll be able to help him control his wolf so he doesn't go all psycho. This is something he's VERY WORRIED ABOUT.

And basically the next day he finds his fated mate and is like...not that worthless person. She's not going to ruin my 5 year relationship and merging our packs together.

I can even SEE the five year relationship being an issue. I really can. But the author couldn't make Marisa sympathetic because if SHE was, maybe we wouldn't like Gavin and Billie being their worthless selves.

So Marisa is cruel, violent, encourages Gavin to lose control and be aggressive, but he's all about her, and it honestly seems to be mostly about sex. And maybe that's closer to real life accurate, but when you're dealing with an actual love story, it doesn't work. Because why do I care about him getting an HEA when he literally only cares about having sex.

And this is just added to the fact that Billie and Gavin don't even have...conversations, and they just start going at it. It's not even a fated mate thing, it's just...hey, she's available so why not. And she's just like...sure why not?

And let's get to about where I'm at. Marisa kills the man who was her fated mate. This is the man she KNEW was her fated mate for 3 years, and she wasn't going to be with him because she wanted Gavin and she thought he was weak.

Okay. Gavin KNEW about him. So if he knew that Marisa threw over her fated mate to be with him, and his intention all along was to also throw over HIS fated mate to be with her, then why was there even the weird confrontation?

It does NOT make sense.

Nothing actually makes sense here. I'm thinking the fated mate of Marisa is just a thing so we can pretend she's the MOST evil vile person in this whole book so it's definitely okay what happened.

So here I am thinking, Marisa and Gavin can take a long walk off a very tall cliff, along with her father. Colt just faded into the background for no reason. Gavin's pack is pretty good so they can all stay, and we don't even KNOW most of the other pack but they're just generic bad guys for some reason. As for Billie, she should go be on her own and get a job somewhere and become self sufficient and self sustaining before she even THINKS about a relationship.

Ugh.

It was okay

I was hoping it would be a good as I read it just started getting boring to me. Billie naive and Gavin insecure. Both deserve each other in their world of trying to be assertive in their roles. Yeah not liking the fact on he rejected Billie and then Billie all accepting in her naive and innocent way. She's made me want to rip her throat out because she was so helpless and so weak that I can understand why Catrina wanted to kill her lol! It was more annoying then sad.

So ein A****.

This book was ok. There were a lot of unanswered questions that didn't fit into the storyline (i.e. why were members leaving Gavin's pack over the years?) and they weren't answered in the second book either. We find out some were killed, but that was just 2. Why does David want Gavin's land? Also, the author deviates from a few shifter troupes, which is fine, but needs a warning. One example is that rejecting your mate just hurts their feelings. It doesn't actually do anything to them or their bond. BIllie has almost no character development even though a bunch of secondary characters do. The author does a great job at writing villains. That is definitely their strength.

The second book about Aislin and Everett was much worse. I actually didn't like this book and it made my decision no to read the third book. Aislin is Gavin's Beta and she is an awful Betta. She isn't particularly strong. She is stubborn to a detriment to her pack. He also makes super poor choices. She is rather annoying and at one point I was rooting for her to die. Everett is the typical cold, aloof, Alpha who thinks rationality will always lead to the correct choices. I didn't have strong feelings for him either way. All I kept thinking was why would anyone follow these people, and the story shows that is a weakness of his pack. Again, the villains were better written than the main characters.

Also, pertaining to both books, it made me nuts that they were going to war, defending their packs from annihilation but didn't want anyone to get hurt. Um...they are killing all your pack members, maybe stop moping around and defend yourselves. They had means, opportunity, and reason to kill all the villains multiple times but only Catrina dies and then everyone acts like it's this huge deal. Her pack was actively trying to wipe out Gavin's pack. But once she was hurt everyone stopped and went their own ways. It drove me nuts and lots more people died because of it.

Billie is a protected runt of a wolf who is ‘over protected’ by her Alpha, shunned and used. Gavin is an Alpha of a pack thinking of having an alliance with Billie’s pack and has been in a relationship with her adopted sister for 3 years.
However fate reveals that Billie and Gavin are mates and Gavin is not happy about it.

I don’t use Halley read this type of book and I took a chance. Unfortunately it’s not the right troupe for me.

Gavin rejects her, treats her poorly and repeatedly calls her the runt.
Even when he changes his mind there is still underlying emotional abuse going on. Billie has no back bone and I feel that her back story is very unbalanced and doesn’t make much sense.

Conflicted

I am conflicted with this book. Spoilers to come..

Gavin is no alpha. He let David rule him. He did not care about his mate. He kept thinking about his girlfriend. Then suddenly he needs her. She was weak and did not seem to mind his ex was her sister. He had a romantic and sexual relationship with her. I could not get behind the characters

Gavin: “I’ll be making up for it for the rest of our lives”

Ahhhh, famous last words. Well, with how Gavin treated Billie, he’d best be making up for it. He didn’t just belittle her, he humiliated and rejected her in front of her ‘family’. He was cruel, no not physically, but mentally. The words he threw at her were beyond repair. Yes, he came around but I would have loved to see him rewind the clock back to that rejection and literally feel and see the damage he caused. She already felt ‘not good enough’, he just made it worse, a lot worse.

This is a storyline that will tear at the heart. It’s full of emotional turmoil, lots of drama and keeps you turning the pages. There are hints throughout that make you realize things are not what they seem. Just who is Billie and why is she kept a prisoner inside her home? Was it really for protection? Why is Cat, her ‘sister’, so crude and cruel and just what kind of game is Colt playing?

There is betrayal … and never forget that the saddest thing about betrayal is, it never comes from your enemies.

Buried secrets rise from the grave. Greed and jealousy will change a person. Karma makes a visit. It’s all here plus much more. But the big question is, will justice be served? Just know, that even runts can be dangerous!

🤔 CONFESSION TIME

✒︎ Hmmm, just to think, adultery was the root of all this evil... and the collateral damage lives on.

✒︎ At times I would become pretty frustrated with Billie and I had to keep reminding myself how ‘protected’ she was and how very innocent she was to what the real world was like.

✒︎ Didn’t like Gavin at all in the beginning. However, he eventually wises up and grows on you. I don’t think he properly apologized for the painful and hurtful words and/or way he rejected Billie. He was downright cruel. And to think, all this time he played with the enemy.

✒︎ Speaking of cruelty, Cat takes the cake. She got what she deserved. Okay, okay, I wanted her to feel a little more pain before Aunty Karma takes her toll… LOL

✒︎ This can be a standalone but it does leave us wondering about David and Colt…. Not to mention those dragons. I’m thinking there is a followup.

✒︎ As Billie said: a hundred deaths over and over wouldn’t be enough to make up for the things David did. It won’t be easy to quench her deep rooted hatred for him when she finds out the truth.

Billie was adopted into the Hexen family of shifters when her parents died. They kept her locked behind doors and made her clean the entire house. She was awaiting her wolf to show to gain the freedom to outside. Her adopted siblings were terrible~ She did believe Colt cared about her though. Their father was another matter. Gavin, alpha of a pack adjoining their lands, was her sister’s boyfriend of three years and she could not stand him. When she is caught outside, she is grounded. She finally gets her wolf and cannot believe her fated mate is someone she cannot stand; she tells her family but he rejects her. When Gavin finds out who his fated is, he does not want her. Colt helps Billie escape only to be caught in Gavin’s territory after her sister attacks her. Gavin protected her but he is also protecting a unicorn shifter from dragons. When he ends the alliance, things get much worse for everyone. Even finally claiming his mate and discovering some horrid truths will not stop the coming war. Those who should be protecting everyone, decide not to be involved. Now, they will have to make some tough decisions in the name of vengeance...who will live and die? This book ends on a cliffhanger but you will want to know the outcome just as much as I do~

It had a great start to be a great book. Wolf shifters. Cinderella “wolfy” gal and big bad beautiful nasty dark wolf boy.

So the plot had opportunities which however set some high expectations at the very beginning. And honestly it wasn’t until the first very descriptive goreing that I raised my brows a little.

But no problem lot of things are going it seems good tension to build up for what comes.

And it wasn’t bad really but I had so high expectations that maybe that’s why it didn’t got a better scoring. While I felt the kills and skinning very descriptive I felt the romance part was lacking it. I understand the fated mate – rejected mate tension (and ooooh I love it so) but still I felt it a bit hurried on how they get into each other so quickly especially after how badboy handled her before. Which of course is very alpha stuff but I wanted some more pushback from the heroine maybe?

Also some part I found too descriptive while some was just quick (eg. girlfriend handling and overcoming etc.)

So all in all a very strong mid player. It kept me reading so never had a boring minute!

A good read for a cold outside warm inside let me chill afternoon.

I am obsessed with this series!! The characters, mystery, twists, and turns had me reading this book in one night and then going back to read it again. Jaymin Snow creates amazing worlds and characters that are well written and will keep you on your toes. The story of Billie and Gavin was captivating and heartbreaking. I loved the ride that I was taken on and can't wait to see what comes next.

Billie was the sheltered, shy, and meek shifter of her family. I felt like she was the runt and more like a maid than a part of her family. I enjoyed how she grew and found herself throughout this book. Gavin was TD&H. He was a grumpy, possessive, and protective Hero. I loved his struggle within himself to do what needed to be done. I enjoyed it and fist-pumped the air at the end. Such a great, and intriguing and has me going back to read what else she has written. I love finding new authors that write amazing shifter books.

I couldn't finish this book. Just not enough character development for me to like the story. Billie is just to submissive - her mate rejects her and the minute he wants to touch her she lets him. Not what I like to read - there is no groveling from the male and absolutely no self respect from the female.

Gavin is Billie's fated mate.Gavin is an Alpha and Billie is his neighboring pack's runt (but also "current Alpha's, David, daughter). Gavin has been dating Billie's stepsister for years and they plan through their mating to join the packs. Gavin is a super weak Alpha as he let's David and his daughter control him. Also, Billie is a super weak character as she never (from what I had read) stands up to how he treated her. He asks to f*ck her before she leaves his pack and she says that she will think about it. ARC reader ⭐️

Billie Jesper has always been the runt of the pack, beat down and locked away from everyone else. When she finally gains her wolf and has her Moondream she finds out she’s mated to the Neighboring packs alpha, Gavin. Gavin who also happens to be her cruel adoptive sisters boyfriend. He’s always treated her like horridly and rejects her. Her uncle David is furious and locks her away. Now that she has her wolf though she can’t just stay inside anymore, she yearns to be in the forest running in her wolf form. What will she find out there though? Will Gavin ever want her as a mate?

Very fast paced
Rejected mates
Fated mates

This was a quick and easy read, good story line. It had drama, love, heartbreak, etc. I really enjoyed this book!

This book was gripping from beginning to end. My heart truly went out for Billie and all that she endured at the hands of those who were supposed to love, protect, and support her, including her mate Gavin. There just aren't enough words to describe how cruel they were. But Billie's spirit isn't broken. She manages to triumph through it all. And that's truly what this story is about. Trials and tribulations may come. You will be tested and dealt a bad hand. You may bend, but DO NOT break!! Show them your perseverance and strength. It's ultimately what turned the tide in her favor in the end. Gavin came to love her and promised to make it all up to her and karma took care of the rest. Good read!

Billie and Gavin’s story is a slow burn, second Chance mate read with a lot of secrets from the past trying to continue to shape their future. When Billie and Gavin have their Moondream that shows them to be fated mates, all hell breaks loose as he was her “sister’s” boyfriend at the time. Gavin renounces her and the story takes off with secret after secret being revealed. It takes Billie’s saving a unicorn to open Gavin’s eyes and heart to her. The rest you’ll have to read for yourself!! It’s 5⭐️’s worthy and I can’t wait for the next Grandbay wolves book !!

I received a copy of the book from the author and am choosing to leave a review.

A secret center
I love a book where you don’t realize it’s two stories in one book.

Book one
Get yourself together
This book was a fantastic read! I loved the action, danger, and revelations that the author managed to squeeze into the pages. I enjoyed most of the characters, but there were at least that I wanted to throat punch, okay maybe three or four, and there were two that I wanted to shake some sense into. There were a few parts that are not typically seen in shifter romances that I was not a fan of, but overall this book held my attention until the very end. So much was lost and so much was gained and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

For lovers, yes, but also for readers….

You know when you got roped into that paid reading site with the story about the orphan who was being abused by her pack and then turned out to be fated to the rough alpha of another pack? I know you always wanted to see how that story ended.

THIS is that story and so much more. It’s a romance, so of course there’s sex, but the story line is fantastic, engaging, and surprising. He struggles with rage, but still treats her with respect and you end up loving him too.

You’re going to want to buy all the consecutive books, so make sure your pocketbook is ready before you start.

This book was absolutely amazing, it had everything I love in a rejected mate book. I really loved that each chapter alternated between the male and female characters, I feel that you get so much more out of the story. The story line was different from others I have read which was great, ther was a lot of mystery and load of secrets to discover. I couldn't put this book down, the author has a great style of wrtting that just draws you right into the book itself. Highly recommend this book ans author.

Gavin and Billie . . .

** 3.5 Stars **
The best part of the story is seeing Billie to from being isolated and suppressed, allegedly for her own protection, to finally coming into her own sense of confidence. However, I would find it much more difficult to overlook the hurtfulness of Gavin’s nasty rejection. Changing into her wolf form was liberating for her and started her strength to come into play. Unfortunately, it was too soon to meet her mate since she had been held back for so long and needed time to “bloom”. Lots of betrayal in this one. But will there be any love?

Billie is locked up by her adoptive family for her own protection but that doesn’t stop them from treating her like a piece of dirt. Gavin is the Alpha of the Grandbay pack and his girlfriend is Billie’s adoptive sister…but it turns out Gavin is Billie’s fated mate. Gavin rejects Billie in the most public and humiliating way. This story is heartbreaking and painful to read at times. I loved the finale but I think that Gavin needs to grovel for Billie’s forgiveness. She doesn’t even get a sorry from him. I received this book from BookSirens. I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.
