I’ve been hired to teach an alien warrior social skills to woo a mate. But now he’s trying to woo me.
When the elderly duchess I cared for dies, her slimy son—my ex—tells me he wants me back. Um, no. I flee and at the Intergalactic Employment Agency, I’m offered a job teaching an alien warlord sophistication so he can woo a mate at the upcoming Match-Mating Soiree. If anyone can domesticate a brute, it’s me.
In between teaching Forje how to converse politely and dance without crushing his partner’s tail, he shares his battle scars and unusual poetry. He’s sweetly cute in a gruff, grumbly way, and it’s not long before I see he’s awesome even if he doesn’t know which fork to use with the main course.
But when we arrive at the Match-Mating Soiree, and alien females cluster around him, I’ll lose the guy I'm coming to adore. Unless I can convince him to domesticate me.
Domesticating the Alien is Book 5 in the Beastly Alien Boss Series. Each book is loosely connected and features an Earth woman hired for an off-world job who meets an alien who can’t resist falling for his fated mate.
AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.

🎧 Audiobook Review: Domesticating the Alien (Beastly Alien Boss, #5)
Author: Ava Ross Genre: Science Fiction Romance / Alien Romance Narrators: Patrick Zeller and Hollie Jackson
🦸🏼♀️ The Heroine: Kalei
Kalei’s arc is defined by displacement and vulnerability. The death of Duchess Viola, both her employer and former mother-in-law, removes a stabilizing force in her life and exposes her to renewed pressure from her ex-husband, Rich. Viola’s strict adherence to protocol contrasts with Kalei’s emotional attachment, underscoring the tension between duty and affection. Rich’s reappearance at the funeral signals the reassertion of patriarchal control, positioning Kalei as a woman caught between autonomy and coercion. Her decision to seek employment off-world reflects both a pragmatic survival instinct and a symbolic rejection of Rich’s dominance.
🦸🏻♂️ The Hero: Forje
Forje embodies the archetype of the warrior unversed in intimacy. His military role situates him within a society defined by external threat—the Torvian beasts—whose regenerative qualities metaphorically echo his own inability to sever ties with past failures. His lack of social fluency, particularly in courtship, highlights the novel’s exploration of masculinity constrained by martial identity. The tension between his battlefield competence and interpersonal ineptitude creates fertile ground for Kalei’s role as instructor, positioning her as both catalyst and equal partner in his transformation.
📚 The Plot
The narrative juxtaposes Kalei’s flight from domestic entrapment with Forje’s struggle to reconcile warrior ethos and social expectation. The Intergalactic Employment Agency functions as a narrative device to broaden the scope of Kalei’s choices, contrasting mundane caregiving roles with the more dynamic challenge of teaching a warlord social skills. Her selection of Forje’s assignment is not only expedient but thematically resonant: she escapes coercion by embracing a role that requires her to shape another’s capacity for consent and partnership. Rich’s vow to pursue her across the galaxy intensifies the stakes, framing the romance within a broader conflict of autonomy versus possession.
🌟 Strengths
• Forje’s social ineptitude is rendered with humor and serves as a structural counterbalance to his martial prowess. His awkwardness in performing gestures of courtesy underscores the novel’s interrogation of cultural rituals and gendered expectations. • The mutual attraction between Kalei and Forje is presented as symmetrical, avoiding the imbalance often found in alien romance narratives where one partner dominates.
💔 Limitations
• The narrative’s emphasis on interpersonal development occasionally sidelines the action-adventure elements typical of the genre. The Torvian threat, while conceptually intriguing, is underutilized as a sustained source of tension.
🎙️ Narration
Dual narration by Hollie Jackson and Patrick Zeller enhances the text’s thematic contrasts. Zeller’s deliberate pacing and tonal depth align effectively with Forje’s alien identity, reinforcing his outsider status in matters of human interaction. Jackson’s delivery, though mature in timbre, conveys warmth and optimism, complementing Kalei’s resilience and emotional intelligence. Together, the narrators create a balanced auditory experience that mirrors the protagonists’ evolving dynamic.
💬 Final Assessment
This audiobook situates its romance within a framework of autonomy, cultural negotiation, and the redefinition of gender roles. While the narrative could benefit from a stronger integration of external conflict, its focus on character-driven transformation and the interplay between martial identity and social fluency provides a distinctive contribution to the alien romance subgenre.
This one was darker than other installments, and had little depth of worlbuilding. "Found my fated mate, but I'm not going to mention it" is getting tired.
DNF at 25%. It’s inane. The idea you could tutor someone of a different culture how to be socially acceptable in their own culture is ludicrous. Very euro-American centric in its ideas. This is one of those alien romance authors who doesn’t want to research anything so they just set their book on another planet and don’t try to question culture or language differences. It’s too shallow.
✨ “You are beauty. Love. And the sparkle in my life.” ~~~ Kalei is such a wonderful woman! She’s caring, kind and compassionate. And she loves to take care of others. Everything is kinda working out for her until the elderly dutches she cares for passes away and she’s forced to run from her ex. She shows such strength and bravery to stand up for herself. I loved her so much!
Forje is a Haehron warlord - huge, strong, protective, scarred, grumbly and kind of awkward in social situations. But there is more to him than his gruff appearance. Forje is one absolutely phenomenal and sweet male with a huge heart who loves poetry and his social “ignorance” just makes him so adorable. I couldn’t help but absolutely adore everything about him!
I loved everything that happened between Kalei and Forje. Forje’s nosy, but well-meaning aunts are in search of a teacher for their nephew. And Kalei is the one who accepts the offer to teach him social etiquette and help him woo a mate. From the moment they met, the attraction between Forje and Kalei was strong. But Kalei, being his employee and filled with self-doubts, was not willing to act upon her feelings. I loved Forje’s determination and patience to prove to her that she’s more than worthy of love and that they are so right for each other. And I loved how supportive Kalei was of Forje’s plans and dreams. The moments they spent together were so sweet. And when they finally gave in to the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot! Yeah… it’s always the quiet ones! 😏 Kalei and Forje were so perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!
In addition, the storyline was fantastic! I just loved Forje’s quirky and constantly bickering aunts so much! And I had so much fun with the Match-Mating Soiree and all the customs and fashions (yeah, I’m never gonna wear such… dress 😅). Even more, the added suspense and unexpected turns of events kept me glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, the story is another spectacular addition to the series. It’s filled with humor, action, drama, danger, smoking-hot romance and wonderful characters. Domesticating the Alien proves once again that the right one will love you exactly as you are.
I couldn’t put it down and loved every single page of it!
This book wasn’t bad, it just felt like it was trying too hard to be funny. I get the “rough around the edges” thing, but he has to be pretty coordinated to be a successful warlord who battles for his life literally every day. The “I’m so clumsy I can’t walk around with my sword without knocking everything over” just doesn’t fit with his occupation. Also, the plot point of thinking it’s shallow to follow social niceties and he should be able to just be himself? Really? Being told it’s polite to eat using utensils is not someone saying you can’t ever be yourself. I was sucked in at the beginning because I wanted to know what would happen with her stalker ex husband, but I couldn’t keep wading through the rest of it. DNF 28%.
What I really love about alien romance is usually their different culture and customs.
Sadly this lacked. Their traditions were basically all human, the language is basically some english/Spanish mix? Dia, haoures, ... And the premise doesn't make much sense when you think about it. Someone from a different planet/race, that has no idea of how courting works in the other aliens culture teaching an alien to court/find a mate.
Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of insta love but it all seemed extremely rushed (all happening within 5 days)
This book is such a Nice way of passing the time! Forje ois just such a cute and clumsy warrior and Kalei is there to train him so he can get a mate. Of course things never go as planed and Kalei starts to think that Forje is just perfect like he is. The way they interact is wonderfull and the house is so cool! Great book from a great author.
Written in first person by Ava Ross, Domesticating the Alien is book 5 in this Beastly Alien Boss series, and follows the Haehron alien Crown Forje Kox Traach’eol and his human employee Kalei Bridget Sutherland. The set takes place in a time where alien worlds are familiar and intergalactic travel is common. We first met Forje at the end of book 4 when he showed up late to Elys and Dekrin’s wedding. Kalei applied for a job with the interstellar employment agency after the duchess she worked for died. Her ex husband decided that she was still his property, and with the Duchess (his mother) gone, no one was left to protect her. She took a job asking for someone to teach etiquette to a warrior who was about to attend an event where he would hopefully find a mate. Of course, Forje fell in love with Kalei, choosing to court her at the ball instead of the available females. Since Kalei was also in love with Forje, she was more that happy to spend their time together.
Kalei was Forje’s one true mate, verified by some spark ignited on his tongue. Both had resisted revealing their feelings for one another, each for different reasons. They finally came together sexually in chapter 32, at the 75% mark, though they participated in other sexual acts (kissing, fondling, flirting, oral sex, etc) prior to intercourse. The buildup to that point was appropriate, both lusting after each other but refusing to act upon it, resorting to flirting and eye fucking each other from afar. However, I think the author waited WAY too long for the two to finally have sex. I understand neither of them wanting to rush things too quickly, but c’mon… when you know, you know. You know?
Aside from the abundant attraction and sexual encounters, there were other adventures pertaining to exes making a play, attempted kidnapping, and social mishaps.
The two lived happily ever after as mates. The only strain on their relationship was that both feared rejection too much to voice their feelings for each other. So much time and worry was wasted on that fear. Everything worked out and the two were better for knowing and falling for one another.
I personally married my own boss, so I am totally here for this series. I will admit that I found this particular book a little too boring and lacking for my taste. Although it might have been the weak backbone from both characters that turned me off. Just once, I’d love to read a book that was like “I love you. I love you too. Great, let’s fuck like bunnies until we make lots of babies. The End.” Haha. I am looking forward to diving into the next book in the series. I recommend this read, if this genre is in your wheelhouse. 🫶🏻

Review of Domesticating the Alien Book 5 of the Beastly Alien Boss Series By Ava Ross
Oops! She Did It Again!
Rather, I should say, “Yay! She Did It Again!” Although they have all been great, this fifth book in the series by Ava Ross is the best one so far. It had the perfect balance of suspense, attraction, humor, witty dialogue, tenderness. love, and steam to please any reader. The author builds such unusual worlds, especially with her descriptions of the flora growing therein, such as a wellire, which is a mushroom shaped plant that grows into a dwelling to accommodate the owner, with multiple stories and interior rooms, and thrives on excrement. Her descriptions of the creatures populating them is equally imaginative, especially when the hero has an appendage that features certain embellishments not found in human anatomy.
Kalei flees from her ex-husband to the Intergalactic Employment Agency with only the clothes on her back. She accepts a job teaching Forje, a Haehron warrior, social graces so that when he attends a Match Mating soiree, he will know how to woo a lady to claim her as his mate. Even though the job is short-term, she hopes that she will be able to find other employment on the planet that will keep her far from her ex-husband. Prepare to be enchanted with this story and its exciting climax, staying up until the wee hours of the morning to find out what happens next.
My Rating: 5 Stars
I received a free copy of this book via BookFunnel as a member of Ms. Ross’ ARC team and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is part of a series of interconnected standalones. You can enjoy only this book, but you'll love the rest of the series too!
Kalei is a young woman whose employer and former mother-in-law just passed away. She had been taking care of her and is saddened by the loss. Her ex-husband reappears and tries to force her to get back with him. To escape him, she rushes to the Intergalactic Employment office and accepts a job teaching good manners to an alien, for him to find a mate at the next matchmaking soirée. When she meets Forje, they're both instantly attracted to each other! What will happen at the soirée? Will they find their ways to each other? Read to find out!
I loved this book! Ava Ross is becoming one of my favorite authors! I love how she manages to create a whole world in just one book! The relationship was great, and I kept hoping they'd get their HEA! Kalei is super likeable as a heroine, and Forje is a cinnamon-roll! I strongly recommend this book to any alien romance reader! Even if you've never read an alien romance, you'll love this one!
How anyone could turn down Forje I will never know. He has the soul of an artist and poet although he sometimes struggles to find the right words to express it. He has fought battles and continues to protect those that he cares about. He is scarred and, at first glance seemingly a barbarian, yet that is not who he is at heart. Too late others have recognised his worth, thankfully Kalei saw it almost straight away. She saw a kind, gentle if somewhat clumsy giant with a heart of pure gold. Her role is to prepare him so he will be able to woo some female at a ball and claim her as a mate. Which she will do despite how much she has wants that female to be herseld as she has come to care for him deeply and since it also helps her to escape her frannkly hideous ex! Forje too is wondering the point of the ball when he is sure he has found his mate in Kalei but will his shyness stop him from declaring for her?
Kalei is 28 years old and on a…well, not a whim exactly, but unplanned *escape* she agrees to take a job teaching an alien some polish so he can attract a mate.
Forje is a 32 year old military commander who thinks in poetry and dreams of being a farmer. Their mushroom houses sound amazing, by the way. His poetry gets much better once he meets Kalei of course.
There’s the usual size difference but at least here our heroine is 5’7”. Still she barely comes u to his chest but at least the differential is a novelty to her.
Forje’s aunts, Rozar and Enzia, with their fairy wings are straight out of Cinderella. So cute. They want their great-nephew paired off so they are adept at arranging.
The pair do realize they are for each other. There’s a kerfuffle near the end to overcome. And a bonus chapter for signing up for the author’s newsletter.
Kalei had taken care of the Duchess for two years until she passed. The Duchessess son, Kalei's ex husband, came back and accosted her. To get away she went to the Intergalactic Employment agency and was sent off world to domesticate the alien. Forje was a soldier and leader in the fight to contain another species that wants to eat them. It was time for him to find a mate. He is also very awkward in social situations and that is where Kalei comes in and this story takes off. I laughed, I almost cried, felt sadness , happiness, fear, anger and so much more. Ava has developed her world so well felt like I was inside the " mushroom" house and her characters so fully that I am right there with Kalei and Forje. Danger, off the charts chemistry, plot twists, really bad guys, and loving aunts all combine to deliver this wonderful tale.
“this human is here to put a sheen on the great-nephew we love already. She is not..."
“this human is here to put a sheen on the great-nephew we love already. She is not here to change you.”
Forje is a skilled warrior, with a unique sense of word play... unfortunately he hasn't figured out how to transfer skill on the battlefield to grace on the dance floor.
Kalei needs something now, so she leaps at the unexpected opportunity to help Forje woo a mate... but she can't help agreeing with his Aunts, while he could use some polish, why should he have to change?
This done in one kindle unlimited quick read is a great story about loving, respecting, and appreciating people for who they are, not who you wish they were, or who you could change them into. Kalei sees the gold in Forje's heart, and he sees the strength in this small woman, qualities others seem to overlook.
I loved this story! A human female running from an abusive ex takes a job on a distant planet teaching an alien the social graces so he can find a mate. She finds herself insanely attracted to this wonderful, hunky alien when she gets there. She adores the aunts that raised him and really wants him for herself. The MMC is gorgeous (in an alien way), sweet, and pretty awkward in social situations. But he finds himself falling for his tutor and she is the only mate he really wants! But her past catches up with her and he has to act fast or lose her forever. You'll love this delightful alien romance as much as I did! I received an ARC for my honest review. It is written by Ava Ross, of course, I loved it!
I loved this book! It was such a fun read! Great world building and wonderful characters. Kalei was desperate to escape her creepy ex-husband after her mother-in-law, the Duchess she cared for, passed away from cancer. Running for her life with none of her possessions, she accepts an intergalactic job to teach social etiquette to warlord Forje in preparation for his attendance at a match-making soiree. This story sucked me in from the start and I couldn't put it down. Kalei and Forje had such great chemistry. The teaching was fun, I liked the scenes at the soiree, and absolutely adored Forje's aunts. I thought Forje was really sweet and I liked the way he and Kalei bonded. A fun read I will have to reread before long, because I'm not willing to let these characters go so soon! 5 stars.
I have to say that this was hilarious from the first chapter. Forje was sweet and unrefined and was in need of a partner that saw him for him andnnothte dream that they think he should be. His aunts was not really trying to chmage him but was trying to give him a boost to find a mate. I have to say that I think the sisters knew Kalei was perfect for him. They did everything in the their power to put them together. Kalei was without a job and plan and was there to give Forje a few tips so the matchmaking soreii be a hit. The only hiccup is they were more suited for each other and it took the soreii to figure that out.
I will say I love the introduction of Charlie's story. I will always read what Ava writes...she is my go to feel good writer.💖💖💖💖💖💖
Forje may be a tough, chiseled, handsome male in the outside, but inside, he is sweet, gooey & oh so romantic with a great sense of humor. What a winner. Throw in his twin Aunties & this book was so funny at times that I kept getting odd looks while reading because I couldn't stop laughing.
The Aunties hire Kalei to help polish Forje' rough warrior exterior, who is prone to acts of clumsiness when it comes to proper social gatherings such as the upcoming mate matching soiree. They want him to find a mate, so they hire Kalei. It's cute from the get-go.
I loved most of the book. It was funny, sweet, romantic & steamy. Fated mate stories are fun.
Forje and Kalei are now tied for my favorite couple in the Beastly Alien Boss series. This tale starts with Kalei running from her Ex and taking a job far away on another planet to teach basic etiquette and how to woo a mate. Well, Warlord Forje is a teddy bear in a muscley, sexy body that spouts poetry in his head. I loved hearing his poetry. It's sweet but odd, and it's so endearing. Kalei doesn't stand a chance of not falling for this loving, kind warrior. It was so much fun to watch these two dance around their feelings, and of course, the drama made this story one that I devoured so quickly I reread it, lol. Please give this one a go, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This couple was just too cute, Kalei and Forje were two of kind, from two different species who just seemed to be meant for each other. Kalei was such a hard-worker who was caring and wanted someone who could love her as much as she could give. And Forje, omg, he had layers that you just want peel away and each layer added to his appeal. He was grumpy, yet caring, protective, and at times unsure and for a military man this was adorable. The storyline was great, we had romance, comedy, drama and the spice hit nice. And, I loved that we have family getting involved, the aunts were hilarious and one of my favorites. This was an enjoyable and entertaining read from start to finish!!
Wow! Another great addition to the series! Our heroine, Kalei, signs up for employment at the Intergalactic Employment Agency to escape her ex. She was hired to help teach our hero, Forje, how to woo a woman at the Match-Mating Soirée. Forje is sweet, but can be awkward and clumsy around women. Kalei and his aunts don’t want to change Forje. They think he just needs some polishing. Forje and Kalei were so adorable together! I loved reading scenes with Forje’s aunts. They were hilarious, and they kept trying to nudge/push Forje in the right direction so he could find happiness. I can’t wait to read the next book!
‘‘This segment is an easy read without much excitement. Honestly the ending was a slight cliffhanger which all of us faithful readers are left with a feeling of being manipulated to go to next segment.
I would have preferred to not be left hanging about this sweet couple that found love but not enough to be sucked into signing up for the author’s newsletter group just for a closure chapter. The emails are too frequent and quite often repetitive In Box fillers.
As always a thanks to the talented authors that share their imagination and talent with us. Also to Amazon providing us with Kindle Unlimited. Happy Reading.
That had to be the hottest of the series ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Neat ideas with the growing, caring, communicating with the giant mushroom houses 🍄 The Aunties remind me of the fairies from Sleeping Beauty 🧚🏼♀️🧚🏼♂️✨ Kalei & Forje are amusing characters, and sweet 💚❤️🔥💋❤️🔥💚 I loved his poems🥰 and sparking tongue and other yummy traits 😈😈😈😈😈
😆I could already tell that while he was brawny and hardened on the outside, he was sweet and squishy on the inside. If someone hurt him, well, I’d smack her.😆
His best poem: Her satisfaction is the most seductive thing. A ripe berry. A warm hearth. Giving her bliss is my sole desire.
I absolutely love this series by Ava Ross! The Intergalactic Employment Agency has matched up another human to a hot, warrior alien and sparks fly! Forje has been rejected by a previous woman and he wonders if he will ever find a mate. His well meaning nosy aunts hire a human, Kalei to teach him manners…and guess who is his fated mate? The beautiful love story unfolds with a crazy ex husband in pursuit, Forje must fight for what he wants. Ava Ross gives us a heartwarming love story set among the stars. Excellent ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kalei is just taking care of her great aunt and f when she passes away the ex she doesn't want come back and wants her back. But she runs to the intergalactic employment agency. There she found a job helping a warlord Forje social skills and how to woo a mate. Soo, poetry loving and farming. Added with well loved Aunties who want to see their nephew happy and find love. So.. it's lovely to see how Forje's poetry skills improved while he is working with Kalei (by the way beautiful name and I laughed with the antics of the aunts. Highly recommend.
Always a damsel in distress. A required element of any fabulous steamy, fun novel. When 2 Aunts want a mate for their nephew they hire someone to smooth out his edges. Warlords should be rough around the edges that count, when attracting a mate. The whole story is steamy sweet. I think it could use a little spanking in it. But in a whole a really enticing novel. This book series is actually very good. Not just one or two books out of all, but the whole line has been really a pleasure to read. Thank you Ava😊
Forje is a Warrior who his aunties, who I absolutely adored, want to go the Match-Mating Soiree. The problem is he lacks in certain social graces like not tripping as he enters the room. Kalei is the human woman the aunts hire to teach him and is running from her creepy ex. As she coaches Forje they each discover a wonderous thing..they are falling for each other but will fear keep them apart? This is such a romantic, sweet story. I loved it so much.
I knew I am going to love this book from the start. I found myself laughing at our MMC Forge, his "ignorance" about social graces is making me laugh. I can clearly see the scene in my mind and can't help but laugh. Their story totally fits the word "lovely". It was endearing, they clearly are happy together.
Reading this makes me want to reach for the next book in the series . But alas! I have to be patient.
This was super sweet. Forje was adorable. He is a mix of warrior and poet. Kalei is running from her ex who is determined to steal her back. She takes a position with Forje's family to help get him ready for a matchmaking ball. Their connection can't be denied the closer they get to the ball but both think they don't have a chance with each other. I loved their chemistry, dialogue and what a great HEA.
