Summer Kisses and Boy Bands

Rate this book
Want to date a celebrity? Just don't lose your heart.

Val Hartman can hardly believe it when dreamy Zac Miller, lead singer of the Spud Rockets, is in town for the summer. Even more shocking is when they hit it off and he asks her out. But dating a rockstar has its own set of rules, and she’ll have to follow them to stay in the game.
It doesn’t take long to discover that nothing is fair when dating a celebrity, and when a secret is exposed, all that they’ve built falls apart. Add in a troubling phone call that takes Val out of town in a hurry, and everything important in her life is about to be lost for good.
The only way to make things right again will have to be something huge, but it will be the last thing Val ever expects.

This was the perfect book to read to get me through the stress of this hurricane 😂.

My fanfiction loving heart loved this book. The story was cute and everything was so precious. Sometimes things felt a little rushed, a few things didn’t make a lot of sense (if Val lived in her town her whole life how had she never met Zac before even though he came home every summer?) I feel like this could have also made a really cute friends to lovers if they had known each other growing up and he got famous with his band and then they saw each other each summer or something.

Sometimes the dialogue felt a little stiff, and the villain Melissa could have been more fleshed out, but for being just a very simple cute rom-com, this was just fine. Could have used a couple less “oh mylantas” and “holy baloney” and something about horseradishes.

I would have loved more detail on the other boy band members as well. This book could have benefited from being a little longer with a little more character development.

But the band name, Spud Rockets? A+ for creativity 😂. A very cute, super quick read.

This one comes out 10/1.

When it comes to the Spud Rockets, Val Hartman and her best friend are more than willing to swoon together…after all, rock stars play more than guitars and drums; they play with girls’ hearts too. At least that’s what Val’s best friend says.

King does such a great job at creating her characters in Summer Kisses and Boy Bands. Their personalities shine through with lots of humor and fun. The descriptions of sweaty palms and thumping hearts, and well, all those wonderfully gross feelings that we still want to feel in our romantic lives, reminded me of all the times I wasn’t sure what to think or do while dating. And I never dated a celebrity. I enjoyed seeing the parts that Val’s parents played in this book as well. Their love for their daughter came through so well, and they still had those moments when wisdom aged them some–as it should.

There is a fair amount of teen drama in this book, just as any reader would expect. About the time I got tired of it was about the time that it receded. So it was perfectly done, and I have no complaints. Oh, and I laughed. There was plenty of laughter going on. I may have awakened my husband a couple of times with my late-night giggles.

Summer Kisses and Boy Bands is the perfect romance for teens, be it as their next read or a gift, but older, women who love a good teen romance should pick it up too. It does not disappoint.

"Summer Kisses and Boy Bands" by Kimberly King is such a fun book! I LOVE her characters and she definitely brings them to life with all their hopes, dreams, problems, flaws and everyday life too. Each character is well developed and takes us back to days we had the very same problems they do. Relationships are hard and everyone needs their friends to help along the way. Love can make you stupid and we see a little of that too. It’s refreshing and will tug at your heart as well. We want them to get it all worked out. I honestly could picture the characters in the various activities. Well Done and good for all ages.

King is a new author to me and I’ve so far read three of her books and I adore them! I love the quirky characters, but how real they feel, how normal, how relatable and everything else that goes with it. This book was no different in that it had so many twists and turns, a hint of mystery through it. I adored the romance, and how things all came together at the end. I’m so glad there are always solid friendships in her book too, even with their own angst and twists. Just a delightful read and one that I only stopped reading because sleep isn’t optional! Very much recommended for all those who love a sweet romance!

This book was very wholesome and definitely rated G, which would make it perfect for a middle schooler or high schooler into romance novels. The character of Val was cute and had good dialogue with the love interest, Zac. I liked seeing their relationship progress and I liked the backstory of Val’s baby brother being in the NICU to add some depth to her character.

This was a quick fun read!! I started it last night and finished it this afternoon.
It was a great young adult novel that I’d feel okay letting my teen read. Good story. Engaging. A great clean read.
It handled the teen drama well. The story deals with Val and her boy band idol Zac. But the real fun starts when he shows up in her town!
This was my first read by Kimberly King and I enjoyed it! I’ll be checking out her other books too.
