Grumpy Bosshole

Rate this book
Dumped by my fiancé? Check.

Broke as a joke? Check.

Stranded thousands of miles from home? Check.

I did what any innocent small town girl would got a job at a strip club! It is Vegas after all...

Not stripping. Oh no, that's too scandalous for the likes of lil ol’ me. But my prick of an ex took the liberty of draining my bank account, and I needed a job fast.

I thought I was going to become a bag lady. That is, until I walked into The Rose , a club run by the irresistible Mason Alexander. Rich. Mysterious. Gorgeous. And possesses a silver tongue he wants to use to talk me into stripping... and I just want him to use it for something else...

That would never happen though. Despite his playboy reputation, he has a strict 'paws off' policy with employees. Not that he'd be interested in a country bumpkin like me anyway. Supermodels and actresses are more his style.

But then why give me a job? Pity probably. That, or he still wants me to strip.

At least that's what I thought until he asked me to marry him.. .

I have mixed reviews about this one. I did thoroughly enjoy the story and I couldn’t put it down but I have a hard time getting past the first part of the book. It was slow moving and on the boring side but I understand the author was trying to develop Mason and Billie’s character and personality. I started off being unsure about Mason’s intentions but quickly grew to liking him once I had a better understanding of why he was the way he was. Considering how Billie was basically left to fend for herself I was proud of her how she pulled through and I felt horrible for her in the beginning. It was so sad what she was going through and I couldn’t believe it. One of the things I enjoyed about the story, obviously aside from Mason and Billie’s growing relationship was the setting. Usually I read books about the glitz and glam of Vegas, but this story showed the less flashy aspects of Vegas and focused on real people going through the motions and trying to make a living. I got both these worlds with Mason in the glittery and glamorous side of Vegas and Billie part of the less fortunate side of it. Together it blended really well and you got a taste of both lifestyles as I mentioned before. It shows that people can open their eyes and realize the best things in life are in front of them if they allow it and show their true self because it becomes the most beautiful. I saw this as a growing theme throughout the book and was delighted by it. Billie got Mason to stop with his facade and to just be himself. He wound up being much happier when he did that and stopped worrying about image and what he’s supposed to feel or show. His character grew the most in this book and it was wonderful to read about it. This book was not only a romance, but it shows character too and how finding love can change someone’s outcome. When we got past Mason’s alpha exterior, we saw a man who just wanted to make his father proud and find love, even though he kept shooting it down in the beginning. With the right person walls can come down and you can feel like a different person for the better. Once he felt comfortable with Billie, love came quickly and naturally to him. Taking all of this into consideration, the story gets a 4.5 for me, I just couldn’t get past the beginning.

Billie flies in to Las Vegas to meet her longtime boyfriend, and get married. Instead, she's left stranded at the airport, and dumped via text message. To add insult to injury, her now ex-fiance cleans out their joint bank account leaving her nearly broke. With little money, and no where to stay, she sets about finding a job. After no luck finding a waitress job, she gets hired by Mason as a low paid costumer in a strip joint, after turning down his suggestion to her becoming a stripper.

Mason manages his retired father's clubs, although he'd rather be a playboy with his father's money. He's not totally lazy and heartless, just jaded by his father's constant criticism of him. One thing he is interested in is trying to get Billie to be a stripper. The clubs are failing, and he thinks she could be a big draw, and earn her more money. Her steadfast refusal, and her fresh faced beauty start to intrigue him. So when his father suggests that Mason should settle down, Mason comes up with a plan to pay Billie as his fake fiance-- a strictly platonic business arrangement.

Billie and Lucy, her stripper roommate and bestie, are strong women, doing what they have to do in a tough situation, without compromising their hard limits. Billie is determined to do her best at her job, and stay focused even when being criticized. Lucy is supportive, and a friend in need. Nice to see strong female friendship. And Billie's support of Mason helps him to be a more mature, caring person.

I hate having to write this review because I was really hoping after her first book this one would be better but I really just did not like it. The story is ok. Billie gets dumped (harshly) at the beginning of the story and goes out to find a job to make it on her own. The beginning I liked, she gets a job at a strip club and sticks to her guns by not being a stripper but being a costumier. She makes friends and starts finding herself and really feels proud. Mason is a womanizing shallow man who lives off of his father's money and doesn't care about the strip clubs that his father build into a small fortune and is letting it go to pot. Mason meets Billie and he immediately wants her to strip but she won't give in and that makes him have an idea on how to make his father think that he is going to change his ways by having a fake fiancé. They end up falling for each other, I felt no sparks. Her ex shows up but we never really find out the reason he left her or how he knew where to find her. She falls in love for real and then immediately quits her job (rolls eyes) and Mason is glad because his woman won't work at a strip club. Those things really annoyed me.

And the steam, um...it left a lot to be desired. I was just skipping those scenes by the end. Cassandra has another book coming out and I will give her another shot because I imagine it is hard to find yourself as a author and I bet it is really hard to write the steamier scenes.

Billie gets to Vegas to meets her boyfriend only to learn that he's not coming and that he is dumping her. When she goes to check into a hotel her card is declined, and she learns that he has cleaned out their joint bank account so now she is stranded in town with no money and no place to stay. Desperate she tries the strip clubs for jobs that aren't stripping. She gets a job as a costumer. Mason Is her new boss and sparks fly between them. One of the strippers befriends her and takes her on as a roommate. One day Mason shows up and takes her out because he needs a favor. His father is going to sell the clubs unless he settles down, so he asks Billie to pretend to be his fiancé with his father. She agrees and its not long before real feelings become involved. Then her ex shows back up and causes problems. Will Mason be able to convince her to be with him for keeps? Will she stay?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

This was just okay. I appreciated Billie and her strength in making the most of a bad situation, and in sticking to her values even when she was down and out. Mason was a bit one-sided. He didn't care for Billie at all, just wanted to make her the star stripper of his club, then all of the sudden, he was in love with her. You could almost pinpoint the exact page his feelings suddenly changed. It was startling and didn't feel real. Also, can we talk about the sex scenes for a second:
Then I feel him pierce my intimate realm, dipping his index finger deep into the throbbing canal.
I cry out as he buries himself deep inside, piercing me with his monstrous tool.
She tosses her hair, like a mare giving me permission to ride.
Just no. Big old no on this. Talk about pulling me out of the story. I had to stop laughing long enough to keep reading, but it was tough.

I doubt I'll read anything else from this author in the future.

Billie finds herself stranded in Vegas by her supposed fiancée when she has flown there because they are to get married. She has no money because he takes all the money, no job and nowhere to stay. She applies at several clubs and finds a job at The Rose working for Mason Alexander. Mason keeps trying to get Billie to strip, telling her it will be more money, but she draws the line at taking off her clothes and instead works as a costumer.

At the beginning of the story, it's clear that Mason is a playboy and Billie is too good for her own good. To keep his father from selling the clubs, Mason convinced Billie to be his fake fiancée. I liked that even though it seemed like Mason had all the power, Billie was really a force all her own and she wasn't just going along because he told her to. She really grew into herself throughout the story.

You'll enjoy Billie and Mason's story. It's overflowing with drama and angst. Billie thought Las Vegas was going to be her wedding and honeymoon destination. Things go south quickly when she is abandoned at the airport before making it to the altar and her bank account is drained. Desperate for a job she interviews at Mason's club. He wants to hire her as a stripper but she refuses to take her clothes off. Things progress and she agrees to be his fake fiance. What happens when feelings turn real? Does Mason keep his father from selling the clubs? Does Billie cause Mason to change his playboy ways? What happens when Billie's ex fiance comes back into the picture and causes problems? A good story that ends with an HEA and no cliffhanger. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Off Putting Beginning

The start of the book turned me off big time. My personal preference, but I do not like reading about any lead characters having intimate relations with others who do not end up as the love interest. There are other ways to allude to a promiscuous past without actually having to “see” it. For me it colors my whole view of that character to the extreme and makes me doubt everything about them. If they perform the same acts with/seduce the other main character the same way, how is their relationship special? What’s to differentiate between the two? I would have rated the story higher by at least another star had the scenes been left out and the main male’s man-hi-info around just been left behind closed doors.

Good romance, more tender than I expected
It's a good simple romance, tender, which could perhaps have been more developed on the "grumpy" side of Mason's character (especially in relation to the title), because ultimately, the tender side of their relationship is what takes the step on the possible antagonisms.
I really liked the beginning with Billie, dumped when she landed in Las Vegas, and who finds herself working for Mason, a strip club boss, as a costumer, for Mason, an insistent boss, but not really unpleasant.

Billie was just ready to get married only to be stood up. Down on her luck and not wanting to go home feeling as she failed, she found her way working at a strip club as a costumer. Meeting the boss and his proposition to be his fake fiancé and then feelings turned real. Add the crazy ex and let drama begin. A good read and I love HEA.

I really wanted to love this book. The mfc was a southern woman that acted like she had no clue about life. The mmc was a childish arrogant rich man that thought life should be handed to him. It was a hard to read book for me. Personally, it just didn't flow smoothly for me to fall in love with the characters as much as I wanted to. The plot was good, I just believe at some point midway through the immaturity of the main characters they should have grown up a bit.

A little boring not my favorite.

It kinda felt like this story went on forever nothing really exciting except for Tyler getting what he deserves. It felt like it was jumping all over the place and I'm glad they got there happy ending. Both the H and h acted like children sometimes I just couldn't get into this story and I don't think they belong together.

It was great

Easy read, didn't take long at all and you didn't miss a word.

Spoilt son, A dumped finance, and a father wanting to have his son to finally brow up.

Needless to say mission accomplished!

DNF at 41%. I tried, I really did. I thought this story had potential but Mason was just too big an a-hole jerk to like even just a little bit. I'm so disappointed.
