What do you do after being left at the altar? You flee the state, of course!
In order to put her ex-fiancé and the worst day of her life behind her, Ofelia Mendez reluctantly left her home and loving family to start a new life in Texas as an English teacher and cheerleading coach at McKinley High. Now, she is ready to take on her biggest challenge yet: get her squad to the championship, a feat no cheer coach before her has achieved.
There is one problem though. The annoyingly attractive coach and former professional baseball player, Maverick Wilson, who is not only dealing with his troubled past but is also determined to make Ofelia's new life more difficult.
When the two meet, tension ignites. Ofelia and Maverick’s disdain for one another, as well as their reluctance to share the gym, quickly turns from rivalry to sexual chemistry. Is Ofelia bound to strike out in love again, or will her broody baseball player be the home run husband she always wanted?

The banter! Yes please. I loved the characters in this book! It was the perfect read for me, I was going into a slump and this definitely brought me out of it. Loved Ofelia, she was the go getter girl that we all want to be but at the same time she showed her vulnerability! Loveeeed the tension between Maverick and Ofelia, it was a perfect dose.
This was a special book to read, super proud of my author friend! Can’t wait to read more!
Anastasia Dean is going to take the RomCom world by storm in this hilarious debut novel. On and Off the Field is a home run. You’ll laugh, you’ll be angry and you will want a replay of of the steamier scenes. Will Ofi & Mav both win in this fast paced enemies to lovers story or will they strike out? Anastasia Dean is the pen name for a Latina author here in the Austin area. She also writes fantasy under her given name. Who knew one person could hit it out of the park with both of these genres?
I was one of the lucky people who received an eARC of this precious baby. On and Off the Field has all the elements I love the most in romcoms: dual POV, a great cast of characters, friendships and family bonds, some well written smexy times, and a romance that puts me in a rollercoaster kind of rush. I absolutely adored Ofelia and Maverick as singular characters but also as a couple. They immediately butt heads when Maverick, who is the newly appointed coach in the high school where Ofelia teaches, accidentally books the gym in the time slot Ofelia had taken for her Cheer team. (I loved the team, by the way. Three teens are singled out among the rest, and they were gems!) The sparks were intense, and the moment that rivalry turned into something more intense? I melted. MELTED. I loved them so much they had the power to make me soar and break my heart. I’m also realizing that, while I’m a couch potato, I have a thing for sports romance, and so I really enjoyed that element of the story.
Apart from the romance, I really enjoyed the characters and the relationships—not just the main couple, and not only the romantic relationship. I already mentioned the Cheer team, but I really loved Maddie’s best friend and her brother, Willow and Javi, and Maddie’s relationship with her father. There’s a scene between the two of them that had me almost tear up. The next book is going to be about Javi, so I’m happy I’ll still get to see this amazing family. I may have felt my Ship Bone (it’s a thing, okay? I’ve made it a thing years ago) ache with someone, but I’m not sure. I’m pretty convinced it’s not gonna happen. But what if it does? Aaaah, I need it now!
Despite having received an eARC, all opinions (and fangirling) are my own!
The perfect rom com! I loved seeing the enemies to lovers romance spark between Ofelia and Maverick! So many of my favorite tropes were present in their story and I am here for it! I haven’t read a sports related romance in a long time so the cheer and baseball storylines really brought it to another level for me. I was also pleased to see Latin representation throughout the story with Ofelia’s family!
I love love this book. I love spicy romcoms and this book delivered all the spice and so much more. The author did such an amazing job bringing Maverick and Ofelia’s story to life. I’m looking forward to reading more books from this author.
Thank you so so much to the author for sharing an ARC of this one with me !!!!
“You have exactly one second to take your hands off her”
“Sweetheart, if you read my thoughts, you would see that is the most gentlemanly thing I want to do right now”
I AM OBSESSED !!! Fans of sport romance but with more of a rom-com vibe, hear me out because this book is the one for you!!!! Wow just … wow !!!! I’m absolutely speechless !! This book is too good to be true !!! I wish I could say it was just the rivals to lovers trope or maybe the “Don’t you dare touch her or else …” trope. Or the fact that these characters and their story was absolutely amazing to get through. Or because of some side characters that I would honestly love to have in my life (Willow and Javi are my thing !!!!)… or maybe simply because this main couple is something else !!! I don’t know what made this book this good, probably a combination of all this things. What I do know, is that Ofelia is an amazing teacher/ cheerleader coach, who has an amazing brother (whom I wish I’ll be able to read more about soon !!!) and meeting Maverick changed her life … IN SOOO MANY WAYS !!! That man !!!! The audacity !!!! The ability he has to make me melt !!! To make my heart flip and goosebumps rise on my skin … THAT MOUTH he has on him !!!! I’m at loss of words to describe just how amazing it felt to get through some very very entertaining spicy times !!!! I loved how this book was fun and sweet but also sexy and spicy !!! I adored it !!!! I honestly cannot wait for it to be out !!!!
“I’ve learned a lot about myself from reading romance books. Like the fact that I cannot stand miscommunication. It happens a lot in some romance genres and it frustrates me beyond belief each time”
ON AND OFF THE FIELD has nothing to envy rom-coms by established names in this genre. If a love story between a latina English teacher/cheer coach and a baseball star forced high school team coach filled with forced proximity and a fast attraction with a slow-burn payoff sounds like your idea of a good time, then I can only recommend this rom-com, which easily became one of my favorites.
As with any good rom-com, On and Off the Field’s strength relies heavily on its main protagonists. Ofelia and Maverick’s chemistry was off the charts and their love story consumed me, but aside from their sweet, hot romance, I couldn’t help but fall in love with them as individual characters. The author did an incredible job at fleshing out both of these characters, welcoming the readers into their lives and into their inner thoughts, and giving them two distinct voices. You could tell apart the Ofi chapters apart from the Mav chapters without even having to read the chapter headers!
Another element I really enjoyed—and this is something that isn’t a given when reading rom-coms—was the secondary characters. This novel has a huge emphasis on the values of friendship and family, and they’re brought to the table with some incredible supporting characters, especially in Ofelia’s chapters with her bestie Willow and her brother Javi (whom I love, and am so thrilled he will be getting his own book). All of these little elements enriched not just the characters, but the novel itself, creating a real-life portrait of friendship, family, love and second chances that was as wholesome as it was entertaining.
Cannot wait for more romance by this author! As far as debuts in a new genre go, I say it couldn’t have gone better!
Anastasia Dean makes their debut with this sweet and restorative narrative about being granted that second chance at an all consuming love.
When gym bookings clash and rising tensions build between cheer coach, Ofelia, and the hot, new baseball-star-turned-coach, Maverick, Dean sets up for the perfect home run, on and off the field!
I enjoyed the lively portrayals of Cheer and Baseball, both sports deeply ingrained in our leads, boasting of a living passion that came to life on the page. This, paired with the big hearts and sweet vulnerabilities they shared together, provided the bones of a healthy couple growing and healing together. Despite the bruises they both bore, there was an energy to Mav and Ofi that carried their narrative, leading to a wholesome resolution cheered on by a great team of side characters.
The banter, the passion, and the dirty talk between these dominant personalities was humorous and the perfect dosage of spice, and I only wish we’d been afforded the opportunity to witness more of their chemistry and love in play. This aside, I admired the time taken to heal past wounds and restore old relationships for both Mav and Ofi, and the strength they drew from this. The closure it provided added an extra realism and will be a hit with readers looking for their next cosy night in.
⚾️ Workplace Romance ⚾️ Sports Romance [cheer x baseball] ⚾️ Latina MC ⚾️ Rivals to Lovers
I received an advanced copy thanks to the author, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Anastasia Dean wrote an amazing debut rom-com. The story of Ofelia and Maverick is sweet as hell and is detailed to its core. It’s captivating with emotional baggage and then coming through all of it. Whereas Mav is sweet, Ofelia is kind and they both can light a fire just by their intense chemistry. Romance is a slow burn but once it takes off, it’s wow. There are two sports shown- Cheerleading and Baseball and is very interesting to see how both the games are played and the key items. The banter between them makes me want to read more and know not about them. Willow and Javi are interesting support systems that everyone needs in their lives. Overall I enjoyed the book a lot.
Anastasia Dean hit it out of the park! Ofi and Mav are so cute together and their personalities really shine through in this adorable, spicy rom-com. I was hooked from the first line and unable to put this book down! Happy release day!
I went through so many emotions while reading this book.
Ofelia and Maverick's first meet was nothing short of disastrous. Ofelia was left with the impression of Maverick being the biggest asshole she knew, while Maverick regretted what he did and made up to her.
It's a sweet story about getting second chances at love. The romance, the ANGST 🤌🤌 was wonderful. I'll be looking forward to book 2!
I would like to thank the author for providing me with the ARC and the opportunity to give my honest opinion on this book.
This was such a wholesome and surprisingly emotional read for me. Anytime I read a book that has a Latina FMC, I can't help but marvel at the representation. To see your own family and upbringing in love stories like this is so validating and encouraging.
Ofelia was literally such a mature and relatable main character. My heart really broke for her when she recounted her last relationship and just the amount of stress that she puts on herself to be perfect felt like looking in the mirror. Her love of books and comfortable nights in are literally my thing too. Ofelia's relationship with those around her always managed to put a smile on my face. Everyone around her loves her to death and so she has a beautiful support system. Willow and her brother Javi are her ride or die people and the moments they all had together were hilarious.
The discussions surrounding generational trauma and depictions of growing up in latino households was handled beautifully. Ofelia's issues with her father's absence in her milestones really hit home for me. To be able to see their serious talk and mending of their relationship, was an incredibly healing experience for me. I loved every second of it and it forced me to come to terms with some things in my life.
The minute Maverick was described as having a likeness to Michael B. Jordan , I was instantly sold on our MMC because lord... have you seen that man?! Pure gorgeousness. My love for Mav only grew with every new interaction he had with Ofelia. Their first date at the book store was everything I wish I could find in a man! The fact that he was willing to drive hours to go support Ofelia made my heart melt too. I was temporarily upset with him during his time in Chicago, but I understand that our man has been through a lot with his whole world being turned upside down. That whole third act breakup with Ofelia had me bawling my eyes out because they both deserve happiness.
Enough with my incoherent rambling. I genuinely loved this book and definitely recommend it to romance book lovers like myself. It will make you laugh, cry, swoon and feel every other raw emotion we humans possess. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for us in Book 2

I absolutely adored this book! I was given an ARC by Anastasia and Flying Pig press in exchange for an honest review! These thoughts are my own opinion!
We meet High school English teacher & cheer coach Ofiela. She is ready to get her team to the Championships but there’s just one thing standing in her way baseball coach Maverick. The two butt heads when they have to share the gym. After all there is a gym schedule for a reason and gym time is serious business! But the banter between the two quickly turns into chemistry! Can Ofiela and Maverick open their hearts again or will they both strike out?
The chemistry and banter in this book was top notch!! I loved Maverick and Ofi so much!! I liked how this was a slow burn to a burning hot flame and spice that made me turn red in the face here and there! I loved the balance of spice and plot!! Anastasia certainly knocked this one out of the park and I’m so excited to read Javi’s story next!
If your looking for a great sports romance with really great banter and spice then look no further. Pick this up on Oct 11,22! Thank you so much again for the ARC I had the best time reading this!!
I adored this book so much. The characters were so normal and real feeling and relatable. I genuinely loved all of them and all the different dynamics. The right amount of sweet and spicy. Not too much drama and just an overall feel good read. I’m so excited for Javi’s story because I know it’ll be just as great as Ofi’s. Anastasia Dean is a new favorite.
I could read this again and again, I loved Ofelia and Maverick, I really enjoyed learning the history of why they were both cautious of love. Ofelia has sass, and who doesn’t want a bestie like Willow. I l throughly enjoyed this book and the enemies to lovers vibe. The tension oh my the tension. You hit a home run with this one (excuse the pun)
On and Off the Field is a stellar debut for new romance author, Anastasia Dean. I enjoyed this story about a brown and black couple navigating a new chance at love. Ofelia Mendez ran from her home and family in California after an unfortunate turn of events in her love life. Now a teacher and cheer coach at high school in Texas, she’s trying to find her way in life. Enter new baseball coach and embattled pro athlete, Maverick Wilson. Homeboy has a chip on his shoulder after he struck out in his own life… although he got played real foul. Ofelia and Maverick’s first meet is not so cute. But attraction wins out and their chemistry is a home run. Ofelia is Type-A personality. I had to warm up to her a bit, but her vulnerability and big heart eventually won me over. Maverick wasn’t rounding any bases with me in the beginning either. He was too bitter about his past. But as the story progressed, so did their character development. Ms. Dean did a brilliant job at showing both Ofelia’s and Maverick’s growth. I love how they evolved as individuals and as a couple. The sexy times are sweet and the timing is perfect. I really would’ve like to see them in more scenes together though. There were some touching moments that got me teary-eyed too. Ms. Dean really knows how to capture the vulnerability in her characters using relatable emotion and varied perspectives. BRAVA! I also loved the storyline involving Ofelia’s cheer squad. The narrative made me extremely invested in the team’s journey. And last, but most certainly not least, this book felt a little like home for me. So much nostalgia… from settings in my hometown Chicago and competitive sports to the portrayal of the Mexican culture (which holds a special place in my heart…and it’s food in my stomach). This was a grand slam for me. On and Off the Field is a great start for what I am sure will be a successful career in romance writing for Anastasia Dean. I received an ARC from the author and this is an honest review.
Ofelia Mendez is a badass cheer coach, English teacher, and romance lover who has built a life for herself in Texas after she fled her home of California after being left at the altar. When first meets Maverick Wilson, a tall and handsome former MLB player and the high school's new baseball coach, she thinks he is the biggest jerk ever for thinking he can come in and take over her team's practice space. The two start off as nemeses who can't help but hide their attraction for each other as the sexual tension builds.
This book was an enjoyable read. Ofelia is an incredibly relatable and likeable character and the side characters really bring this book to life. Maverick is exactly what you want out of a leading man. He's handsome, broken by his past, and has a filthy mouth. It had a good and satisfying level of spice that was a slightly more than vanilla (which I appreciate). Plus, there were some grand romantic gestures that had me swooning.
This is the first sports romance that I read and I would now definitely call myself a fan of the genre. As a big fan of the show Cheer and books like Dare Me, I loved the cheerleading aspect of this book. I also love seeing adults in a high school setting because it gives such a small town feel and makes me nostalgic for high school.
However, this book found me wanting ... more. I wanted a bit more of the rivalry in the beginning to build some more tension between the main characters. Also, both main characters start off with a big secret in their past that is kept from the reader. I would have enjoyed if these bits of their pasts were revealed slower. Additionally, I would have liked to have seen more exploration of Ofelia's grief around her mother's death and of her strained relationship with her father.
Overall, I would recommended this book if you love sports romance, cheerleading, baseball, nemeses to lovers, or high school settings. It is a quick read with satisfying spice.
thank you to BookFunnel and the author for sending me an EARC of this book!!
3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
okay, first of all, i can see booktok (specially the spicy/romance side of it) adoringgg this book!! it was fresh, fun, and spicy and i truly enjoyed reading it!!!
the main character was definitely my favorite thing about this story. Ofelia is a BADASS LATINA english teacher with a love for books as well as cheerleading and her cheer team (which she coaches). she is relatable, strong, and so incredible!! i looked forward to read her pov all the time, and i was hanging onto her every word. there is nothing she could do wrong in my eyes. she was truly a delight to read about and i already miss her!!!!
however, i wasn’t a fun of the guy, Maverick. again, i can see booktok going wild for him. he is legit tall dark and handsome, has past trauma, can be grumpy when you first meet him, and has a diiiirty mouth/mind. there is nothing exactly wrong with him that i can point and say “he did xyz hence i dislike him”, so i think it was more of a ME thing in this case. it was from the moment he was introduced and kept going with the book, so i’m certain he just wasn’t the guy for me. i really do wish this hadn’t happened because it took me out of the story at times or made me enjoy the story less.
The romance in general is sooo cute and i LOVED their first date (if a man takes me to a bookstore and buys me all the books i want I WILL MARRY HIM). i loved the latine rep and the way it was so casual and natural in the story, it felt genuine 🫶🏻
in general this is a fun read and i’m very excited for javi’s story next, HE DESERVES LOVE AND I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT IS COMING FOR HIM AHH 🥹🫶🏻
i swear when i first looked into this book it had more reviews idk if i’m imagining things or it’s always had this little. im surprised cuz i really liked it.
willow annoyed me more often than not tbh. she acted like a teenager with the whole “if u hurt her i’ll hurt u” and gossiping (like teenagers) and trying to knock down the door cuz ofi was in the bathroom with mav on the phone and just diff shit like girl…also demanding info on mav so ofi tells her everything about the sex and his case when he hated how public it got but she’s like “well everyone knows anyways and willow tells me stuff so it’s only right if i tell her” right to him tho??? so (like a teenager) she tells everything and they just sit and gossip like i love gossiping but there’s a fine line between adults telling eachother stuff and adults that wanna act like those ladies from the movies under the hair dryers. i just didn’t like her idk there was smth that the author did to make the some of the characters sometimes childish except for willow who basically always was. then later ofi is like “i don’t wanna put his personal life on blast if he doesn’t wanna tell people” U LITERALLY TOLD EVERYTHING BUT NOW U WONT TELL THAT HES IN CHICAGO CUZ OF THE CASE U ALREADY TOLD WILLOW ALL ABOUT???
also wish author wouldn’t have made mav acting so heartless and like a dick. at least he had a real reason and real fears so i didn’t stay mad but i love groveling so much i wish he would’ve had to do more than getting on a plane and a thorough apology but i’m not super mad about it where i cant forgive him.
liked the car scene but where’s the scene with him?? never happened. booooo
There were so many funny moments as these two went head to head with their rivalry but soon turned to affection. A fun rom com that also addressed some generational trauma and trust issues of both MCs
Seeing the Latinx rep in this book was really nice. I totally related to the family dynamics and understood Ofelia's personality much more than Maverick's. Not that I didn't like Maverick, but I was very disappointed by his decision making that caused the 3rd act break up. I was actually rooting for Ofelia to make him grovel a lot more... but maybe I'm just petty, lol
Maverick was really sweet, though. He was super supportive and attentive. But his damn trust issues hurt their relationship in the end. What I did find refreshing is that it didn't take months for him to come to his senses. He knew he messed up almost immediately. And his groveling was much appreciated.
The attraction they had for each other was off the charts. They knew, even while fighting, that they wanted each other. It definitely added to the tension building up. This was an open door romance, and the scenes were descriptive enough but not drawn out too long. Aside from the spice, there is plenty of healthy sex talk and representation. Especially with the side character, Willow, who is in a swinger marriage. It was refreshing to see that lifestyle represented in a non judgmental way.
Overall, I highly recommend this book for fans of rom coms, rivals to lovers, and sports romance. You'll get a lot of talk of baseball and cheerleading, so if you like that, then you'll love this one.
Trigger/Content warnings: Feelings of neglect from a parent, death of a parent (past tense), infidelity (not between the MCs), sexual content, explicit language
My Second book by Anastasia Dean (read Fixed Up Ever After first since I received it as an arc) and I HAD to purchase On and Off the Field because I had to have Ofelia’s story. I needed to know how her and Maverick met, how their love blossomed. This book did not disappoint!
Ofelia (Ofi or baby girl) is a strong, independent high school English teacher as well as the cheerleading coach. Maverick (Mav) is a disgraced former MLB player who moved to Texas and became the baseball coach for the same high school Ofi works at. First impressions are important but maybe not too important for Ofi and Mav since it brought them together, eventually. Having to work together and share a space sometimes while their teams were practicing caused for some tension, both anger and sexual. The spark of interest is apparent between them but they seem to enjoy bickering back and forth. The banter is top notch.
The chemistry between Ofelia and Maverick is hot as h£ll. The characters and word building were phenomenal. You could feel the angst between the MCs but also the need for connection with each other. They needed each other to be able to heal their broken hearts from their previous relationships. It was wholesome how they helped each other and were there for each other. Was there a third act break-up, yes, but it made for them reuniting so much better.
This was such a cute story. Ofelia was so relatable and fun. She's a teacher and cheerleading coach just enjoying her new chapter in life after a terrible break up. All she wanted was a good book to read and get her cheerleaders to win their next competition. Until practice one day got a little crowded with the new baseball coach and his team. Handsome coach at that, but Ofelia isn't trying to focus on that. She's got competitions to win with her team. Maverick never expected to be a coach, he always thought he'd be on a team playing professional baseball. Until he got banned for false accusations. Meeting the cheerleading coach was the last thing he expected when trying to run some drills in the gym with his new team. And she was beautiful and sassy. He liked it. But he's got a team to coach and win some games. The last thing they expected was to find themselves attracted to each other..and more.
Oh man the banter between these two was so cute. I loved their chemistry together. I just enjoyed this fun story with these two as well as the other characters, Willow especially. Oh she's the best friend every girl should have. She was just hilarious and fun. Javi is the brother a girl needs. Highly recommend, Oh and the spice, can't forget that, perfect 👏🏻
Ofelia, a teacher at high school, and Maverick, a disgraced former MLB player turned head baseball coach, butt heads when they have overlapping gym time with their respective teams. The spark of interest is there but these two seem to enjoy their bickering far more. It isn’t until they meet out of school grounds that the spark is acknowledged.
I enjoyed this story a lot, but a lot of this revolves around sports and not academia as I had originally thought. But no matter, Ofelia and Maverick are both good, well-rounded characters with flaws and strengths. It was enjoyable to watch them grow closer and navigate their relationship.
My only big gripe is that it seems like we skipped a portion. There was one date and suddenly we seem to be moving on where they are established. Maybe I understood wrong or skipped a page but it seemed rushed how we moved from first date to a big romantic surprise to completely setting someone aside. That’s why the stars aren’t higher for me.
Tropes: Co-workers to lovers Sports romance POC main characters
Definitely enjoyed myself reading this book! The couple were hella cute and I was rooting for them to make it.
It was fun watching each of them grow throughout the book. Maverick was certainly a grumpy, cynical dick when we first meet him and Ofelia was a bruised, withdrawn introvert. I loved seeing how they both balanced each other and taught each other to be better. Plus the angst and sexual tension towards the start was UNF 😍
I was expecting the third act break up, because that’s a standard in most romance novels, but damn it hurt. I felt so bad for both of them and I’m glad it all worked out! I’m also happy that certain other relationships were bolstered in strength towards the end of the book.
This is Anastasia Dean’s first contemporary romance and I highly recommend it! It’s a subtle sports romance that’s cheeky, hot and sweet with a dash of angst and sarcasm to keep things wild!
After being left at the altar, the heroine wanted a new start to her life. She moves to Texas as an English teacher and cheerleading coach at a high school. At this school, she meets the coach hero, who is determined to make her life difficult. Their rivalry turns sexual as they interacted with each other. Will they give each other a chance at love when their pasts is holding them back?
This is the first book by Anastasia Dean and features a strong heroine who is learning to start again after a life-altering and humiliating experience. I enjoyed the banter between the heroine and the hero, especially during the sexy times. The hero is a great complement to the heroine and their story is enjoyable to read. I can't wait to read more Anastasia Dean books in the future!
**Thanks to the author for the review copy. All opinions and thoughts in the review are my own.**
Anastasia Dean's debut RomCom really hits it out of the park! (See what I did there?)
Romance is not a genre that I often read, but I really loved this book! The author did a great job in developing the main characters, so that the reader becomes invested in what happens to them. As a former teacher, Dean also hits the mark when describing what being a teacher at a school in Texas is really like, which helped me connect to the main character, Ofelia, on an even deeper level. This book made me laugh and there were some parts that even made me cry, but best of all, some really spicy parts that made me wish the book was longer, so we could get even more! Do yourself a favor and read this book!
I've been seeing this book come by on bookstagram and once upon a time the ebook was free on Amazon so I decided to pick it up. Might as well not have.
The characters have no personality. They're so flat. People spoke of great banter.. Where was it? I sure couldn't find it. Maverick is an ass and not even in the fun kind of way. His entire demeanor feels icky to me. And the way he objectifies Ofelia? Nope. To top it all off his POV is boring and sad. His inner monologue is so yuk. Ofelia is a much brighter person to read about, but still very much lacking a personality.
There was no plot. Nothing. I read 26% of this book and we had gotten nowhere. They both think the other person is hot. That's it. No chemistry. No fun scenes. Noppes. Nada. So disappointing.
I received an e-ARC of this & truly meant to finish before this past Tuesday's release date, but life.... This is a sports romance between a high schoolteacher/cheer coach & a former pro baseball player turned high school coach (and cheer is definitely a sport these days)... Ofi & Mav are adorable & their first date is my dream 1st date (really my dream any date). The pacing is a bit inconsistent and the conflict is a bit abrupt (in my opinion of course) but the love story is charming & of course we get our HEA (this is romance!). I liked the characters (the best friend Willow is hilarious) & look forward to the next book in the series which is apparently focusing on Ofi's brother Javi.
