For the very young, each animal character in this rhyming board book names a number from one to ten—but watch out for the pop-up surprise at the end!
Whether it’s an elephant’s two tusks, a lion’s four paws, a koala’s five claws, or a goose’s ten feathers, each animal on these cheery pages has something to count. But what about Crocodile Claire, popping up at the end? Who dares to count her teeth? The rhythmic, singsong text combined with sweet, simple illustrations will have toddlers laughing along while learning numbers from one to ten.

You’ve never had such a good time with a book as you will this one. Fun is exploding between its covers. While learning numbers and counting, rhyming animals scamper across the pages. Bunny Hun has the number one and Tabby Licks has number six, with lots of excitement in between.
The colors and illustrations bring smiles with each turn of the page in this big board book. If the reader adds different voices and sound effects to the animals, little ones will have lots of laughter. The end of the book has a big surprise when Crocodile Claire pops up with her mouth open daring everyone to count her teeth. Just make sure little fingers don’t pull them off.
I have witnessed my granddaughter have peals of giggles whenever she looks at this sturdy book, which is often, and it is well loved. This five-plus star book will be enjoyed by children through three years old. I highly recommend you get it!
Thank you, Candlewick Press, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.
Show Your Colors and Name Your Numbers are two adorable board books teaching the titular topics. Cute, bright animals show off chocolate brown feather and white teeth, or count paws and tails at a narrator's behest, covering basic colors and counting to ten. The rhythm lends itself to reading aloud with only a word or two that feel off the first read; reading it once, though, was enough for me to adjust and let the words flow smoothly the second time.
Fans of Brown Bear, Brown Bear will enjoy the variety of animals, the non-rainbow colors, the invitation-response pattern, and the bold illustrations. Especially exciting for little ones is the cardstock pop-up on the final page!
This pair will be fun to share with a special little one time and time again! (And for someone who has Brown Bear memorized, a welcome and worthwhile alternative!)
The rhythmic nature of this book, the amazing illustrations and board book mixture makes this a hit with my little ones! Name Your Numbers is a fun adventure with a pop-up surprise at the end. Through its engaging storytelling and captivating artwork, it encourages children to explore the beauty and diversity of colors in a fun and interactive way. A must-read for curious minds and a delightful addition to any young reader's collection.
My kiddos had a hard time deciding which one they liked more this one or Show Your Colors. Both were huge hits!
Bunny Hun, Billy Bee and other animals ask us to count with them, and, similarly, Foxy Fred, Kitty Slink and their friends point out their colors, in these two cute board books. Vibrantly colored digital art depicts familiar and exotic animals, and easy rhyming text with onomatopoeia makes for a fun read. The animals are simply rendered, and all share round, expressive eyes. Both books end with a pop-up page. Name Your Numbers has a crocodile and Show Your Colors has a black spider, both prompting a fun eek! moment. Pages and pop-ups are sturdy enough to hold up to repeated use.
This book was... fine. It rhymes, but doesn't have a great flow, and some of the lines feel out of synch or forced. The illustrations are cute and colorful, and the pop up crocodile is fun. I just wish the ending wasn't given away on the penultimate page. Overall okay, but could have been better executed.

The scary pop-up crocodile at the end doesn't fit the vibe of the rest of the book. My daughter was having a great time with this right up until we got to the crocodile, at which point she started screaming. It scared her so much that she started crying and yelling "crocodile eat me" every time she saw the book for days afterward. I knew the crocodile was coming but I expected it to be a fun and friendly crocodile that wouldn't scare my two-year-old.
A cute book that has little ones looking for items to count on each page. Cute animals to identify with charming names. Little extra critters on each page to find and learn about. And then at the end a pop-up to add a bit of excitement.

These are so fun (I like the colors one, too)! This book has the most clever pop-up at the end! I loved it, along with the numbers and fun internal rhyming/alliteration. These are fun board books for reading aloud (not all are).
NOTE: I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review.
Delightful board book counting to ten with the animal’s name rhyming with the number word. Loved the neon colors used in the illustrations. And there is a toothy pop up surprise for the ending.
A book to at goes pop! A book that rhymes. A book that is all about numbers. This book ticks all those boxes and more. With its vibrant sturdy pages it’s perfect for very young readers, teaching them to count and giving them lots of opportunity to giggle, learn the animal characters and have fun!
