Devastating floods. A catastrophic EMP. At the dawn of chaos, who will survive?
In the middle of the worst flooding on record, a devastating EMP wipes out the nation’s power, plunging the country into darkness.
Cars crash into one another. Planes tumble from the skies, killing everyone on board. Survivors battle for their lives in flooded cities, bereft of mobile phones or media to aid them. And with food and supplies already crippled by the flooding, the nation is very rapidly descending into chaos.
Sam is an ex-military man who knows a thing or two about survival. He is in the middle of the city with his loyal dog when the power goes out. Right away, he suspects the an EMP event, crippling the nation and causing mass panic and desperation.
Trapped in the ruin, he only has one goal in getting out of the city and getting back home before things go from bad to worse. But does he have what it takes to make it out alive? Or will this journey prove his most dangerous challenge yet?
Tara is trapped at home by her controlling boyfriend, Jonno, when the world turns dark. After escaping his clutches, she soon realises that something is desperately wrong outside. Trains are at a standstill. The flooded roads are filled with broken-down cars. And her phone won’t work…
Does she have what it takes to adapt to this world without power and make it back to her parents’ place?
Or will her psychopathic boyfriend catch up with her and prevent her escape?
I like that this was in the UK. I had issues with almost all of the characters, except for Harvey the dog. Everyone else is very broken. I get that there would be people in that situation at the onset of an apocalyptic situation, but everyone? There is also a tendency for the author to spew mini-manifestos, such as the media being bad and training all of us to be depressed. While there is a lot of chaos when the CME hits and Sam does have some good items he knows will help him survive, most of the book centers around the murderous, lunatic boyfriend of a woman he helps. When they have a chance to eliminate him and don't well...you get what you deserve in a subsequent book. I won't know because I'm stopping here.
This book was a brilliant thrilling read ,I can't wait to read the next one and hopefully there is more to come,so until then I'm away to download another Ryan Casey book
I loved Dawn of Chaos. It's an excellent book that held me from the start. It's got a slightly different take on it which makes the story a lot more interesting. A fast-moving page-turner.
Amazing, suspenseful plot!! One of the best Post-Apocalyptic thrillers that I have read in a long time!! If you are a fan of Kyla Stone’s Edge of Collapse series… you will probably love this series as well!!
Starts off slow, a romance gone wrong, a man gaslighting a woman, to keep her to himself. A bully. Then an EMP hits and chaos starts. The pace of the book fastens, before you know it your finished book 1.
DNF at 60%- poor writing that used the same expression multiple times in the same small paragraph. Characters that are difficult to root for. Far too much unnecessary language.
Nice and easy to read. Could not put it down. Followed a well trodden path but definitely something I can see myself continuing with the other books in the series!
