Sloane and Loch are on their way to a mysterious crime scene when an old god named Cleus attacks. It’s the latest in a long list of potentially apocalyptic crises, and that’s not a coincidence. While some people just want to watch the world burn, local cultists are determined to strike the match. If their plan to awaken an evil god succeeds, they’ll get their wish.

With victims magically drowning left and right and the revelation that the old gods are real leading the public into mass panic, Sloane and Loch must gather their friends and family—and a shady local gangster—to solve the mystery and defeat new dangers. Hello again, welcome to the 7th entry of the tentacle sex and old gods mystery series.

Spoilers ahead

So in this one we are back with Sloane and Loch, the god who loves him.

How do we know they love each other? Its because they say it over and over. Every other paragraph it seems. (slight exaggeration but it is said a lot)

This time in the "lets bring back Loch's father to end the world" soap opera, Jefuhfuh is back with two sidekicks this time. A great big slimy god (cousin to Loch) and Daisy from the beginning of the series.

So anyways, Loch's cousin goes out in public and causes mass hysteria. Sloan keeps fighting him but they never end up finishing the fight until the last chapter. Sloan is videoed while using the starlight sword and everyone is trying to find him. While this was happening, the so called baby was kidnapped by Jefuhfuh's cohorts.

Everyone comes together to get the baby back and fight the big end of the book fight.

I am going to say, I agree with Alexander (he was from the last book). All the others were so focused on saving Jefuhfuh that they allowed him to make it so he could not answer any questions. I get that Sloane does not want to be a killer, but after 3 gods and one professor, he is one.

We find out that Stoker, from the last book, is actually a half god born to the last starkiller. Stoker was as pissed as Alexander was and hired Alexander and Rota immediately to find the missing sidekicks. Sloane was hurt as he thought they had become friends/save the world buddies.

We also have Pandora, the egg baby from a couple of books back, who is 4 months old and is walking, talking, eating real food, making fires, and cussing up a storm. I kept calling her Renesmee in my head, cause dang. Freaky baby.

Ted and the Kitty King show up at the end of this one to invite them to their wedding. Since the next book is about Fred the zombie and Ell, the brother of Ted, we finally find out why Ted was so mean to his brother.

I will say that this was the funniest story out of the stories so far.

Consistent chaos about sums it up. Apart from Pandora growing fast and Stoker's identity, there wasn't much difference to the previous. A new god trying to wake the big bad and the return of Jeff. The previous couples are now ongoing support, even Alexander, however cranky. I'm curious about Asta and Stoker's pairings.

“Hey, hey, relax your rack, Starkiller. We got this.”-Asta the Asra

I feel like every time I review a book in this series I gush about how much I love it. But seriously, I adore Sloane and Loch. I adore Loch as a parent and getting to see him with Pandora is everything. I’ve always loved how devoted he is to Sloane and seeing him be just as devoted to Pandora was wonderful.

Once again, Sloane and Loch are faced with saving the world from the old gods. It never fails to amaze me how Hiers can create this elaborate world and then still keep all the details aligned. She builds these lush landscapes that you can visualize and be amazed by. I love it.

We get to catch up with a ton of old favorites from previous books and Asta is still, hands down, one of my favorites. He is just hilarious. We also get plenty of tentacle spice and it was delightful as always.

I love this series and never want it to end. Each book adds a little something to the series as a whole and I am all about it. The little nods she puts in her books to her readers and the Easter eggs that pop up throughout are fantastic. This was another solid addition to this series and I am excited for what’s next.

📘5 freaking stars. 9th Feb, 2026. Objectively, it's an easy 4.2 star book. But i liked this so much better than the last one as there wasn’t a single thing i could dislike. Really am running out of expletives and adjectives to say about this series. This picks up right at the creme brulee part! Daaww Loch and bbe Panda even fumbled their attempt lmao 😂 Now, the stakes are back to being high again.
🔹Story- 4.8⭐, Characters- 5⭐, Sex- 4.6⭐, Epilogue- n/a HFN⭐

🔹The star of this book is undoubtedly Pandora. Aww my gosh what an adorable little thing!!! Her “Maff panic” catchphrase! Ubu. 🥺 Yes, her growing up in fast forward is a bit wonky, but i loved the family dynamics and parenting moments. No omegaverse i’ve read has captured the tenderness this accurately. This is exactly how a kid acts and sounds, and i’m so glad a big chunk of the book focuses on homely affairs.

🔹What works the best is their love language of verbal assurance. See, these types of assurances work miracles when someone is struggling. i won't get personal but i will say, the lack of such things can be deeply felt. im so glad this book showcased such dynamics.
Loch was always so confident—even for a god—and to see him appear so uncertain was troubling.
“I’m here.” Sloane touched Loch’s cheek. “I love you.”
“And I love you, my sweet husband.” Loch’s brow furrowed.

🔹i love how Sloane clearly understood Loch's frustration to the point that all his anger towards the God's antics at the coffee shop with that stupid woman was instantly forgotten. This is why they work. Not only Sloane is empathetic and has high EQ. He understands Loch very well.
Not yet, but I believe the news station was identifying me as the “sexy dragon” and not by my proper name.
Sloane laughed.
Loch summoned a tentacle out of sight beneath Sloane’s jacket to gently squeeze his arm inside his sleeve. “I am sorry. Sincerely.”
Reaching up as if he was scratching an itch, Sloane discreetly returned the loving squeeze. “It’s okay. I’m still a little mad at you… I mean, toilet water?” He grinned. “Really?”
”I flushed before I summoned the water. Does that help?”
“Eh. A little.”
”I love you.”
“I love you too.”

🔹Spoiler-ish but i’ll be vague. i saw the “event” coming from a mile away. But what i loved tho was that not once did Sloane turn his fear into anger at Loch. They were both terrified, but they never blamed each other. Never fought. Just so much assurance. It was fascinating to see what healthy high stress coping actually looks like. Sad that i learn this through books instead of rl, but… here we are. :/

🔹This part hit hardest. We’ve all seen old Gods reduced to merch. While in India, active Gods are commercialised but still worshipped. In Egypt tho, old Gods are a myth and aesthetics, and i can feel the stark contrast. Seeing sacred symbols worn casually by outsiders feels disrespectful. And this books addresses that issue:
Like with the bracelet, all the items with the swirling design had the godly glimmer. The rest appeared normal, though it still wasn’t any less weird to see such sacred images slapped all over merchandise.

THIS:
“Okay, we both know that’s ridiculous,” Loch said, taking over Sloane’s voice. “How about you tell us how you sleep at night, profiting off someone else’s faith? Hmm?”

🔹LOCH WEARS A CROP TOP.

🔹This has 3 sex scenes. Early again. 28% in the 1st one was mostly narrated over, done in a hurry, with some responses. But the 2nd one? A deeply sensual massage followed by a thorough fuck. Oohs & ahs, babe. 💋

🔹So, it took me this long to figure out this is not even earth. It’s called Aeon (however, i did hear Ell mention “Earth” specifically, so not really sure if this is in fact earth or some AU).

🔹Some SCs really grew on me. Like, Merrick aka Gordoth is such a sweet uncle! i’m so glad!! Maybe i’ll read his book later. For now, Fred’s is the only one i plan to pick up since it ties to the finale. Toby, Galgareth’s devoted vessel was very likeable. Genuinely got invested in his life (tho nothing is shown). He has bad parents so ofc i support him. Even Kunst got an arc and turned out good.

🔹Oh i'm so happy how Stoker turned out! i loved him since Sloane’s last book and it's so nice to see his true self! Gives me major Claude vibes from VRC unit. Also, apt quote:
“My dear Mr. Beaumont, never underestimate any creature’s aptitude for ignorance.” Stoker massaged his temple absently.

These did not diminish my enjoyment in any way. i just thought i’d mentioned it so you know there are problems and heavy topics dealt with:

♦This time though i had some difficulties with the expositions. Some things are just said and explained after the fact as if it was common knowledge but it's the first time it was mentioned? It only happened during the climax part though. Of course, i suspended my disbelief and so was able to enjoy it.

♦The Kindress' story was kinda triggering. Not the story per se, but what it signified.

♦OM drama: None. During the climax scene, Stoker kissed Sloane's forehead. Sloane didn't know he was going to do that. But it was solely done to protect him. Think of this as his version of tentacle boop.

Tropes, tags & sex acts: •Established couple, •human x god (in a ghoul;s body), •found family, •devoted husbands, •nose bumps, •nose nuzzling, •domesticity, •tall MCs, •make him food, •care taking, •verbal assurances, •shower sex, •bathe together, •hands pinned above, •restraints, •pat him dry, •massage, •DAP, •Triple P, •tentacle sex, •moaning, •knotting, •belly bulge, •hand on belly feeling him inside, •strict roles Loch /t Sloane /b, •mid/high angst, •mystery, •high stakes, •no breakup, •no om drama, •no cheating, •HFN.

Tropes: parenthood, violence, child kidnapping, hurt/comfort, parental abandonment issues, mentions of off page torture, rituals, magical violence

This book was a story of two halves. One was getting to know Pandora, her abilities, and a small part where she was kidnapped. The other part was the investigation and potential exposure of the old gods to the general public.
Nearly the entire series cast appeared in this book, with the exception of Jay, Lynnette, Robert and Lochlain, and Ollie (who wasn't on page but was included). Everyone else made a show for a least a brief appearance, including Asta, Ted and Grell, even Fred and Ell were on page for a short time.
This story really started to weave together some of the previous plot arcs into something resembling an ending. There are still two books to go, but facts are building, arcs are forming into one, and past events are starting to either make sense or have more bearing.
We learn more about Stoker, who I'd love to see get his own book eventually, a bit more info about the Kindress and Jake the Gladsome (whose book was so useful to Ollie). We also got to meet some new characters - some which will inevitably reappear later and others who seem temporary. I'm really intrigued by the reporter, William Zabel.
While Sloane is a very sunshine and bright side character, his eternal optimism can get a bit much. It was nice to see some of the other characters challenging him over it, especially when they have bigger problems to deal with.

Favourite Quote:
"I have a plan," Loch said confidently. "You'll see."
"Oh?"
"Yes." Loch slid his hands beneath Sloane's shirt, rub-bing his belly. "First, I am going to take you to bed. Once you have been thoroughly ravaged, I am going to tuck you in and let you rest... while I finish the laundry and put the dishes away."
"Gods, yeah." Sloane grinned. "And the trash? You'll take that out too?"
"I certainly will."
"Fuck, why is that getting me hot?"

Loch and Sloane are the kinds of protagonists it’s impossible to get too much of: together they’re hot and sweet and funny and totally capable of saving the world on any given day– a useful trait, as it’s needed more than you might think in this series. Loch as a romantic partner is a lot in all the best ways, and Loch as a parent is kinda the same: over-the-top and awesome, fun to watch and totally invested. As is typical of this series, there’s a looming existence-ending crisis to tackle, and it’s rewarding to see these characters, with the help of some familiar faces, avert calamity. Fans of this series will find so much to like here: intricate world building, immersive plotting, and characters that are worlds unto themselves.

The end is nigh?

Plot: Once again the world is in crisis because of the old gods, but Sloane & Loch are on the case along with their entourage. Mysterious drownings, cursed t-shirts, a kidnapping and many more tentacles!
Feels: Loved all the adorable family scenes and how they interchangeably refer to ‘Panda’ as their spawn and baby girl
Drama: Stoker and glitter and IRL
Heat: 4/5 - I love how Loch so poetically talks about sex without ever actually saying it lol
Characters: Rota! And Ollie! And Asta! And yes to the two surprise guests at the end!
Pacing: Medium
Length: Mixture of slice-of-life scenes and action
Ending: World is saved…for now…counting the days as we get closer to the ‘final battle’ and Rota’s body!

I can't decide who is my favorite in these books.... Obviously, Loch is just as awesome as he tells us he is and he and Sloane are hot and perfect together. But there are so many other characters that just make these books hysterical to read. We get to touch base with so many of them in this book as they all come together to fight the big bad.
There are some amazing reveals and still more questions still to be answered in the overarching story line.
I need more of Asta! And all the Pandora moments were adorable.

Another wonderful addition to this series with Sloane and Loch being their inimitable selves while loving each other and being amazing parents. Oh, they also are saving the world again from cultists summoning the old gods (shades of H.P. Lovecraft without all of Lovecraft's racism and other baggage). We also have the general public becoming more aware of things going on in this one and that obviously creates additional difficulties for our heroes as panicked citizens are not helpful. Every entry in this series has been delightful and this one continues that trend.

So, if you haven’t read a K.L.Hiers book yet (where have you been anyway??) and love funny, quirky stories with amazing world building, you should absolutely read this series. Insquidiuos Devotion is the next in a multi book series that continues with Loch, Sloane (or maybe it’s Smoane?) and their adorable daughter and merry band of friends, family, gods and demigoddesses. The storyline is amazing - always a great mystery - and the humor, love and heat are throughout. Absolutely fantastic book by a stellar author!

Book 7 of the Sucker for Love Mysteries

The cult is back and creating mayhem. Another ancient god Cleus, is rampaging through town. Sloane has been outed as a starkiller and god slayer after he has to defend his city against a raging Cleus. And to make matter worse, their baby is kidnapped (don't worry, its but a smidge of angst for less than like 20 pages or so, turns out baby is pretty good at defending herself, but her daddies come the the rescue regardless).

I loved seeing all the characters work together in this one.

Amazing, as always; filled with humor and drama and mystery. And I'll end up reading this whole series just to figure out this plot, because I'm absolutely hooked! Full of our favorite characters being their classic selves, almost the entire cast appears in this book.

Amazing series. Its getting a little outlandish with all the ongoing subplots, most of which show no sign of getting solved any time soon. But overall an enjoyable continuation of the series.
