✨ BookSiren provided an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thoughts below!
I honestly really liked this book! It was refreshing, and a super fun read! Below are my pros/cons
Pros: 🌿 I liked the setting of the school! It made it a really unique location, which really helped further the plot/characters along! 🌿 I loved Riley and April’s relationship! I thought the author did a GREAT job adding just a little dash of romance into the plot! 🌿 I was really, really happy that the author kept the swearing to a minimum! It really annoys me when a book curses every other word, and this book only had 2-3 curses in it! Great job! 🌿 I loved how the Nature Classroom Challenge really furthered the plot! I think without that whole section of the book, it would have had a very boring middle. Other authors might have filled that part with meaningless plot lines, but this author did a really great job with the challenge!! 🌿 I LOVED the little dreams/flashbacks of April’s memory! I thought that really helped the readers understand her past, but also provided suspense for the rest of the story!
Cons: 🌿 There was a lot of characters that I wasn’t even sure why they were there….just pretty basic, meaningless side characters. In my opinion, the author could have worked a little bit more on giving the side characters more background! 🌿 I did not like the Giselle/April situation. I was a bit confused, which could have been my fault, but I would have liked to see more info/background on that situation. 🌿 The whole story with Noah was hard to follow. I can’t spoil anything….but I didn’t quite understand what he was to April. 🌿 The book on a whole felt very surface level. I didn’t ever really see any deeper discussions, thoughts, etc. There were some awesome smaller moments, but on the whole, it was quite surface level. 🌿 There was definitely parts of the book that felt very cheesy, and multiple conversations that I was actually cringing while reading. Possibly some editing and shifting around could fix that! 🌿 In the beginning, the author was slow to provide facts and details about the setting, characters, what was happening, etc. I think I was at 20% when I finally got a good view of the storyline and plot.
With that being said, here are a few of my highlights from the book!
🌟 You’ll find that the law, while it is necessary to keep from total chaos, is quite limiting and lets the bad guys free sometimes. 🌟 There wasn’t anything I hated more in the world than being undermined just for being a woman. 🌟 The library was the most beautiful segment of the academy as a whole….(full page of descriptions, so beautiful!) 🌟 We are defined, not by the chaos in our lives, but by how we choose to respond to said chaos. 🌟 Just remember that just because you can carry the weight of the world, doesn’t mean you should have too.
The ending definitely ended on a cliffhanger, which is good because this is book 1 of a series! All in all, I thought this book was quite good! With some minor updates, I would definitely give it 5⭐️! I would recommend this to YA thriller fans! Really well written, fun twists and turns, cute dash of romance, strong female main character💯 Will be recommending to all of my friends when it releases!!!

A girl with amnesia wakes up to find that she was part of a top secret spy program and that the person who tried to kill her on her last mission (and was subsequently killed in the process) has underworld connections that want to hunt her down for revenge. Can she remember her past life and skills fast enough to prevent her and her new friends from being placed in the crosshairs of some powerful criminals, and paying the ultimate price?
I enjoyed the premise of this book. The characters are fun and engaging and the romance is enjoyable as well. The action is fast-paced and April's fight to regain her memories held my attention and gained my sympathy. I found myself caring what happened to her and wanting to know if she would make it through everything all right.
That said, there were quite a lot of grammatical issues with the book. Words were dropped from sentences, incorrect words and punctuation were used as well. There were many confusing instances where either someone was speaking and it wasn't stated who it was, or where the speaker switched during the middle of a paragraph without warning. I think these issues could be solved by getting a few more beta readers and perhaps hiring an editor. The story was still enjoyable and held my attention enough that I wanted to finish it, but it would have earned five stars from me if those issues were fixed. As is, I'll give the book three stars out of five. Thank you to Atmosphere Press and BookSirens for the advanced review copy of the book, for which I am submitting this honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSirens.
The book was very difficult to follow. The prologue of the book made no sense. When the main character finally got a chance to look at herself in the mirror there was no description of her other than the fact that she had dark hair a a dimple.
I unfortunately had to stop reading the book about 30% of the way in. There was no character development and it was extremely unclear who was a teacher and who was a student. The premise of the book is interesting but I think it needs a lot of work before it can be published. For example, at one point we learn that the “villain” is 30 and yet two paragraphs later it says the villain has a 17 year old son. While that is possible, it’s unlikely and it didn’t make any sense to the poor that the villain had her son at 13.
The book left me with so many questions. Why did no one tell April her name? Was she romantically involved with Riley?
I met the author at a chance book signing while out with my family. I immediately wanted to read the book based on her distribution. "Harry Potter meets criminal minds." I'm not sure if that's quite the description I'd give. It's a dark academia book for sure! I definitely enjoyed the story and the overall concept. I will definitely be continuing the series, and passing it on to others in my family. My main complaint is that there are multiple instances where the grammar is off and spelling/wrong words are an issue. Also the color of her dress at the end is inconsistent and changes from one page to the next. This just makes it feel more like a web novel and less like a finished, published, printed book. It makes me want to start offering my services as a copy editor.
First a special thank you to @booksirens for gifting me with the copy!
This was book was incredible! The first chapter didn’t sell me on it but by chapter 5 I was unable to put it down! It’s got FBI training while at a top secret private school and there is love stories in it too. Very well written and thrilling! I would have never predicted the twist that’s spilled at the end! Perfect for the YA readers out there who don’t mind a little violence! Im excited for the second one too!
I received an advance review copy of this book for free in return for my honest review.
I liked the premise of this book. I thought the main character was decent. However, there were times when I was very confused about who was who because apparently, the teachers at the academy were barely older than the students. It was never clearly stated how old some characters were, and when things started happening it gave me a gross feeling because I was sure that the main character was getting involved with a much older man… until I realized he was the same age. I did like all the action and intrigue as they tried to discover who was stalking April, but there was something about the book that didn't feel quite like it had completely coalesced. I think that it's a good start and an interesting premise, and the author has a lot of promise!
So pleased I went for this academy-thriller. I was NOT expecting the twist at the end, and the pace was fast and on-point. I was seriously rooting for our FMC April - from the first page. A single unexplained plot hole is bugging me, and a handful of minor typos (granted it's an ARC), but this is an excellent story!

I absolutely fell in love with the character Riley and loved the tension between him and the main character April! It had me on the edge of my seat in every chapter and I could not put it down towards the end. Friends to lovers, action, suspense, dark academia, strong female protagonist; can't wait to read more, I definitely recommend it!
