Much better than the previous book of hers that I read. The characters are believable and the plot is tightly written in two time periods. Good easy read.

I loved the book. I had a slow start as the history part of WWI did not hold my interest.
Part 2 comes to modern times and then I began to see the connection in the two books with the history of the painting, "The Girl You Left Behind" from the German war when artifacts were stolen from French families, to the present day and owner of the painting. Amazing how a painting has touched the many lives and marriages and relationships in a 100 plus years span.

There was much I enjoyed about this book- the 2 story lines with characters from WW1 and modern day, the character of Sophie, the setting in France and London and the way the two stories came together. However 2/3rds into the book things started to drag and I did not think the modern day characters had a really believable chemistry that was not very interesting. Not as good as Me Before You.

Beautiful dual love stories on either end of a century. Characters well-drawn and interesting. The only thing missing is you really wish you could see the painting of Sophie in real life.

It was good but I felt that it dragged a little in some sections.
