Cabin Fever #2

Grey's Awakening

Rate this book
Greyson Cole needs to get out of Raleigh. Everywhere he turns, he sees people falling in love, getting married and starting families. It’s enough to make a grown man want to rip out his own hair. And for a cynic like Grey, one more employee getting engaged signals the need for a long overdue vacation. Grey owns a cabin in the mountains he has never even used, and he figures that’s just the ticket out of this nightmare of happily paired-up couples.Grey doesn’t expect to be greeted by a belligerent, half-naked man the minute he opens his cabin door.Sirus Wilder has known Grey’s twin sister for years, and she has given him permission to stay in the cabin while his residence across the lake is under repair. Sirus has never met Greyson Cole before, but he is thankful when the man lets him share the cabin for a few days. There is plenty enough room for them each to keep to themselves. Sirus has had his heart broken and isn’t interested in a hook-up, let alone something more.Even so, Grey is, hands-down, one of the sexiest men Sirus has ever seen. Too bad he’s an arrogant ass and his eyes are so damn cold. Every once in a while, though, Sirus thinks he sees a hint of fiery passion in the controlled man sleeping one room away. For Grey, one look at the roughly handsome Sirus puts Grey’s celibacy pact in serious jeopardy. One Grey doesn’t believe in love, has even less patience for relationships, and he refuses to get mixed up in another messy romantic partnership that can only end badly. Two weeks. Two hard men. Both running like hell from love.Look out. Something’s gotta give.

I am an air force brat and spent most of my growing up years living overseas in Italy and England, as well as Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia while we were stateside. I now live in Florida once again with my big, wonderfully pushy family and my three-legged cat, Harry. I have been reading romance novels since I was twelve years old, and twenty years later I still adore them. Currently, I have an unexplainable obsession with hockey goaltenders, and an unabashed affection for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Well, fuck me sideways (to stay on topic).

I suppose I could go all Calimero and whine that I maybe should take a break from reading m/m, because I obviously haven’t had much luck with my picks lately (to the delight of some friends. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...and my revenge will be so sweet and served on a plate filled with beefy leather daddies).

And as is the case with plenty other books I didn’t enjoy, Grey’s Awakening, too, has gotten mostly raving 5 star reviews from friends. I’m just so goddamn puzzled. So I PM’ed 2 or 3 friends about this and who would’ve thought: I’m not getting with the program. 3 stars apparently means ‘hated it’, 5 stars ‘enjoyed it more or less’. Seems like I’ve been doing it WRONG! Seems like I bought books based upon my own flawed & funky perception of the GR rating.

Just when I wondered if I should go a little berserk over this, I thought about the Arab Spring taking a turn for the worse, Russia’s disgusting anti-gay propaganda law and sea creatures choking on our plastic waste, and I realized that..nah, I should probably just shut up and post my favorite quotes from what turned out to be yet another agonizing, eye-roll inducing experience.

I apologize for these quotes being all about sex, sex and sex. I hope I’m not giving away the plot here; the plot being sex.

First sex scene: the MC’s have just met, are out in a massive storm, torrential rain soaked, but erections still manage to spring heavy...and that’s not all!
The men connected visually and began to breathe in tandem, as if they had already become one.

This one made me do a full-body shudder. But hey, whatever rocks your boat!
He drew one of Sirus’s balls into his mouth and sucked it like a babe at his mother’s teat.

You know, it..
He lapped it up like a dog getting its first taste of water in a week. Eventually, the last drop fell.

Mmm..purple prose anyone? (I have no idea if it’s morally acceptable to quote nasty sex scenes in a review? Should I use *’s? Meh)
Grey’s rectum flamed with the heat of Sirus’s invasion, but he needed the scorching-hot fire of friction or he thought he might die. (...) His nuts crying for release, Grey became a frenzy of erratic gyrating as he pummeled his aching passage down on Sirus’s massive p*nis.

The word knifed is used a lot in this book. And while I’m all for knife-play, this sounds just so uncomfortable..
Sirus ground his buttocks into the bulge, his crease splitting and his asshole finding the ridge and rocking in a frenzy over Grey’s c*ck. “I’m still open...ah, yeah...” Sirus groaned and bucked as Grey knifed up into his loosened hole..

Endearments..babe, baby, honey...I'm probably paranoid for thinking that this book was created to torment me?
“Come on, honey, give it up for me.” As if it had a mind of its own and could be sweet-talked, Sirus’s asshole gave way right then.

MOAR sweet-talking.
“Jesus. You have an incredibly responsive ass.”

“I gave you my ass.”Roughness filled his voice and his throat was tight, hurting like hell, but he couldn’t shut up. “That better fucking mean something to you.”
“It does.”

That last quote summed up the essence of their relationship quite nicely.

I could go on forever, but I’m deadbeat. So I wish you all a great day and..

...here I go again on my own.:p

Grey and Sirus seem to be afflicted with a terrible disease.

The Cockus Alwayserectus.
That nasty bugger, it has its hold on these boys and it just won't relent! Their poor dicks are probably rubbed raw and are all oozy and stuff. You gotta feel for them, ya know?

Okay, whether or not you will love or hate this book boils down to the simple question of "How do you like your erotica to be written?" Do you crave quivering channels, hungry chutes, aching passages, and balls that are weighted by massive amounts of cum? If your answer if yes, than Cameron Dane is the erotica writer for you!

The sex scenes in this book struck me as... interesting. These guys bit through their lips on three separate occasions, drawing blood. I'm a dentist, I know that hurts like a mofo! Three times, Jesus. Put some ice on those lips! And this book is the first one that I've read where the two MCs can come three times without recovery in a single session. They certainly ate their Wheaties that morning! Maybe gay men are made from different stuff from straight men, but my husband would be passed out and drooling on his pillow while Grey and Sirus were just starting on round 16.

Honestly, I found this story to be difficult to rate. The sex scenes were so ripe with purple prose that I felt like my mind was going to splinter into a million pieces, causing my body to collapse, depleted, into a dream-like stupor from which I might never awake. (<---See! I can do it too!)

I was too distracted by the writing to focus much on the couple at hand and I was surprised at their declarations of love at the end. I honestly didn't remember these guys talking much between all of the sex. Huh.

I can see why some people love this book (and most people do, this average well above 4 stars among my friends) but the writing just wasn't what I, personally, enjoy. The book was an intriguing read but I don't think I'll be jumping to buy any more by this author in the future.

3.5 SMUT-LICIOUS stars

This book is about two hot alpha males Sirus and Grey.

SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX.

Sirus and Grey accidentally find themselves in a situation where they have to share a cabin.

SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX.

They start to fall for each other.

SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX.

There are some really sweet, tender moments.

SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX.

A little angst. Some realization. Romance. Love.

SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX. SEX.

And…The End.

Fun, fun read…oh and HOT as all get out. And I wouldn’t mind being in the middle of that Sirus/Grey sammie…just sayin’…

This was one smoking little book...YEEHAW!

I adored Grey and Sirus (lord their names are even smoking) both were damaged, but likable characters. The sex was OFF THE CHARTS. I do wish there had been a tad bit more angst in this one, but overall a really good read.

My one and only complaint about this book is that I would have preferred less drawn out coma inducing sex scenes. Don't get me wrong. Some of the scenes were beautiful and hot, but it gets to a point where it's overdone. Other than that, I loved Sirus and Grey's story.

I'm not a fan of push and pull, but this story had the right amount to keep it interesting and emotional. I would have liked the story to included a little bit more of Sirus' mother accepting Sirus' sexuality, and Grey as his partner.

The powerful vigor of his fucking

What a ludicrous book! Ludicrous and hot! The closest thing to actual porn on the page I've read for a while, with a short HEA epilogue thrown in there to prove it's a real romance. I think there's a felching scene off-page, so a star for that!

Here's just three of my favourite lines:

...sending his rectum into a screeching series of contractions.

Grey's cock raged in his jeans.

The splash of semen hitting the floor sounded like a pressure-washer hitting siding

Also, do this (you'll need a partner): sit on their lap in the spoon position, like you're being penetrated. Now turn your upper body around so you are chest to chest, but keep your hips forward in penetration position. Did your spine break? Yep, thought so.

So happy I already knew there was a sequel for Noah.

When you want hot sex, and plot not-so-much, this is your buy.

Passion galore with some very intense beautiful moments between Grey and Sirus, a shivers down your spine erotic romance both raw and tender. I couldn't help it, I had a soft spot for Grey he needed a bit of rough and he sure got it with Sirus, they both did actually and desperately. Loved this story so much, the slow sensual build and the emotional ups and downs a great mix of love and lust with a gorgeous couple of MC's. I wish we could have had a bit more at the end!

Wow, where to start. This book was frickin amazing. From start to finish I was enthralled by this book and stayed there until the end. When you hear a book is hot, you might not believe it. But trust me this book was HOT! And I'm not even blushing about it. I was a tiny bit skeptical in the beginning, but God, I enjoyed reading this.

Grey and Sirus met in such a funny way. I was laughing my ass of at the beginning and I was frustrated by the end of the first chapter. Looking for sexual tension in a book? This would be the one for that. It was scorching hot and I needed some hotness. Between Grey's past and Sirus' ex we had a lot of tension and lack of trust.

I loved/hated how they were so hot and emotional and sappy, but they didn't really talk. They discussed things and then Grey would close up and we got some more frustration which was followed by more steamy sex. Did I mention that the sex was hot? Of course there was a would-have-been love interest. Noah had a massive crush on Sirus. But was was one sided.

I loved the ending and the confession of love. It was sweet and perfect and adorable for the couple. If you had expected any less from them shame on you. These two were soul mates, in every sense of the word. I think it was perfect how open they became. So do I recommend this book? Hell yes!!!

Go read this book if you want something hot!

I'm a sucker for alpha males and cabins. I like the idea of being forced to confront your demons despite yourself. This was very much a relationship-driven novel, so not a lot happens; the conflict here is mostly internal (Can Grey loosen up and learn to love? Can Sirus forget his ex? Can both men learn to trust?). The dialogue was spot on, and the ending just about perfect (I love me some HEAs!). In a nutshell: Smart AND steamy and totally feel good with some mild angst and miscommunication thrown in.

Just finished a re-read of this one after a year. Man, what a great romance! Cameron Dane is the Queen! Greyson and Sirus are smokin' hot boys and I actually liked this book better the second time around! Angst, romance, wicked hot sex... It's all there. I'm a happy camper.

Super duper, fuck yeah, highly recommended!

There's nothing new or earth-shattering going on here but I don't care because it's HOT!

The sex and some of the language/wording is repetitive but I still don't care. It's HOT!

There's no way anyone could go at it as much as these two guys do but again I still don't care. It's HOT!

And now it's on my go-to-happy shelf :)

Yes, you guessed it because it's HOT!!!!!!

Overall, an entertaining read. (And a stand alone, in case you're wondering if you need to read the series in order.)

The characters were great, their flaws and miscommunications believable - I especially loved Sirus. There was a definite case of insta-lust, but despite that, they made sense together, and their chemistry was palpable.

The sex was pretty hot (and frequent), though I admit it had me giggling like an immature teen at times, as the author must have found some kind of sex euphemisms thesaurus and used it liberally (she actually uses the phrase "seals at play"), and she also seems to be a fan of personifying body parts. I have to give her props for creativity, though!

I liked the plot, and was satisfied with the HEA. Recommended if you're in the mood for fluffy smut.

This was everything I was promised. A hot, sexy, angsty, romance with two men who have just enough baggage/issues to keep them from realizing they really do want that emotional connection that they keep fighting. It was just the weekend read I wanted and I'm looking forward to getting to Noah's story.

Thanks again Gigi for the rec!

Read this one purely for the oodles of sex liberally splattered within. So highly recommended if you are into one handed reading.

I wasn't all that invested in the emotional aspect or anything else to be honest... Hot guys a cabin and a lake? Yeah that's all you need. Enjoy!

Warning: My review has as much depth as the book does (i.e. none)

After my dear friend wrote a wonderfully brutal review and stole my quotes (yeah girl, still blaming you), I don't really even know what to say. Not the quote part, mind you. There's plenty of hilarious lines from this book to go around (90% of this book fits the bill), but there actually isn't anything to say.

Oh, except...

sex

sex

sex

sex

sex

Note: I just summed this book up.

Ah wait, but this book wouldn't be the same without the deliciously cringe-worthy descriptions and comparisons to nature.

Animalistic aggression Grey usually kept banked deep inside emerged, and he mounted Sirus like a stallion on a mare.

I don't know about you, but I think I would find watching two actual horses fucking more arousing than that sentence. But apparently nature ain't stopping for nobody apparently, because...

... the waterfall-loud sound of ejaculate hitting the floor filled Grey's ears.

(*snort* Are you sure he wasn't urinating?)

And...

Grey burned with wanting all over, and his entrance blossomed like a goddamn flower...

Honestly, some of the descriptions are so brilliantly ridiculous I can't even tell if they were a joke, or if the author was just drunk in a bloody garden or something (with horses, mind you).

But Grey's Awakening was not a bad book. It really wasn't. It just suffered from ridiculous descriptions, too much sex, a stupid PWP premise and a plot that someone on a treadmill could outrun. I'm one reason from convincing myself to give a 2-star instead... [changed, hah]

ANYWAY. The writing wasn't all too bad. Just incredibly cheesy with very interesting description. And when they weren't having sex (maybe... 10% of the time?) I did enjoy reading about them, especially during the climax (of the story, not sex!) and all this lovely angst was flowing out (but then sex managed to intrude again *sigh*).

Overall, this was a rather flat read that was still enjoyable, despite its numerous flaws. It was also amusing, which is a bonus (laughing at book totally counts as brownie points). I wouldn't really recommend this unless what you're looking for is a two-dimensional, shallow read with interestingly written sex and a relationship that wouldn't survive past a day after the book's time frame. Still fun.

This was a very intense and damn hot read. I loved Sirus but I also kind of understood Grey's insecurities. Even though they came from totally different worlds, it was immediately clear they were meant for each other.
Like the previous book in the series, The Sweetest Tattoo, the sex scenes were off the charts hot but, in my opinion, the author does better in m/m. That quite long and highly gratifying scene where Grey learns how to enjoy bottoming was my favourite.
The ending was somewhat abrupt for my liking but it didn't affect my general impression of the book that much so I won't make any more noise about it. This story is one of the reasons I will continue checking out Cameron Dane's books.

This was such a simple, but intense romantic story. In the beginning I was not to sure I liked Grey, he just seemed uptight and stuffy, but watching him change and show his real self because of Sirus was great. These two together broke down the walls that each of them had put up and created something that neither wanted or expected. Overall, I think this was a wonderfully written story that had two hot men which I loved from beginning to end.

Ah-fucking-mazing. Emphasis on fucking, there’s A LOT of it in this book. But don’t worry, it is ridiculously hot.

My Kindle overheated and I can’t get it to turn back on.

Grey’s Awakening is Scorching.

I bow to Cameron Dane, master of the sexing. I did not get bored once, and too many sex scenes usually make my eyes glaze. Not possible here. I was too busy trying not to slide off my chair.

A short list of things you will need to read this book:
A fire extinguisher in the event your reading device goes up in flames.
A bottle of Gatorade because you will be feeling parched, possibly dehydrated. Your bodily fluids, they will need to be replenished.

Now, about the actual story. It’s simple really. Two men, stuck together in a cabin. Sparks fly, sex is had, the angst and miscommunication commences.

I found myself wrapped up in the characters. Grey and Sirius are interesting and complex. I understood their damage, and I liked it. I love watching characters work through their issues. I was so invested in their relationship that my tummy was a knotted ball of anxiety at one point. Books that can make me react like that I put on my little favorites pedestal.

If you are looking for a plot heavy book with little to no sex, or if you prefer sex scenes that are sugar sweet rather than intense and explicit, this is not the book for you. Everyone else, you need some Grey’s Awakening in your life.

^^100% MALE!^^

I like Cameron because the men in the stories are always so manly and deep and bloody intense. I am gonna keep it short right now and try to sum this deeply emotional tale of two men, both with a past that have left them broken and unable to trust. For Greyson his childhood sucked and because he couldn't control what happened to him in childhood, he likes to control everything in his adult life. Sirus has been hurt by the man he loved because he refused to admit he was gay and went on to live a straight life. both so vey different, but they have the same thing in common, looking for a home to belong and a man to love.

They meet by fluke when Greyson shows up at his cabin for a little R&R, he wants to be alone and not have to face the happiness of others, upon arrival he finds Sirus half naked and has no idea what the hell the man is doing in his house. He gets the explanation and decides that Sirus can stay over. So some time together both men are fighting this deeply rooted attraction and they decide to be together for two weeks, but it should remain about two guys hooking up. Well feelings get in the way and what started out as sex becomes something more intense and neither men are ready for this little thing called love.

I really liked this one, all the angst and encounters were just so awesome. I love when guys fight and then come together its always so hot and aggressive, and blows my mind. The sex was so hot y'all and thats always with a Cameron Dane book, sometimes the issues are blown out of proportion but I always have fun seeing the guys break down. When men cry it gives me the fuzzies, another winner by the Dane.

Read this a while ago and having just read ' A Younger Man ' - the follow up book containing Noahs story - I felt it only fair to come back and review this one. Both are excellent reads in their own rights and do cross over into each other but I would have to say that of the two this one was probably more overt in its sexual attraction and tension. Boy, when Sirius and Grey get together its electric, and the sex is hot and heavy. Cameron Dane is one of those writers who really make you feel the connection between her male protags and even though the scenes are raw and explicit they never feel squalid or sleazy. I loved the concept of the story, I have a soft spot for the hate to love plot line with lots of palpable sexual tension and wondering will they, won't they, even though you know damn well they will. Add forced containment together in a cabin and watch the sparks fly between these two. Hot,hot, hot!
Primarily though, this is a love story and it was a pleasure to watch it develop in a very sensual, but still romantic novel.

Both books read well enough as standalones but I Reccomend reading as a pair, in this one you will meet Noah a closeted gay man who forms an attraction for Sirius, introduced as the antagonist between them but not a bad person, so its nice to see him get his own love story in the second book, its a brilliant addition and they are both keepers. Read asap!

This is a hot, emotional, straightforward story of two very different men finding what they need in each other. Grey and Sirus meet while accidentally sharing a cabin, and are initially determined to keep their heated sexual connection on a purely physical level. But gradually both want to figure out who the man they are having sex with really is under the surface. This book is about three quarters sex scenes, albeit very hot and well-done sex. However the men are well-developed characters, particularly Grey with his insecurities and assumed arrogance covering his essential loneliness. Watching Sirus trying to understand Grey's changes of mood and carefully concealed fears is a pleasure. Their emotional connection is palpable, despite how quickly it develops.

Loved this steamy romance story. Sirus is super sexy in so many ways. Grey was a little tougher until you learned the reasoning behind his behavior. Watching his walls break down as his trust in and eventual need for Sirus grew was thrilling. There were sparks flying when these two were together. Very enjoyable story.

When Grey Cole decides to get away to his cabin for a while he's looking forward to some alone time. What he gets when he walks in though is a nearly naked stranger in his living room.

Sirus Wilder's cabin is under repair and when his friend offers the use of her brother's cabin across the lake he takes her up on the offer. Neither man is expecting the surprise meeting so tensions run high between them.

Grey grudgingly allows Sirus to stay and as they spend together the men find themselves very attracted to each other. Apparently total opposites, one a successful businessman the other a truck driver, they both share a deeply buried longing for love that they deny due to past hurts.

I really liked both characters although Sirus was my favorite. Big strong handsome men they also have an emotionally vulnerable side that's really appealing. I liked the ups and downs of their relationship as they struggle to open themselves up to each other.

The sex scenes are hot hot hot although at times Grey and Sirus are also sweetly tender.

Another part of the storyline I liked was Sirus' relationship with his family. His family is supportive of him although his Mother pretends as if he's never come out. Their scenes together were beautifully written and I felt Sirus' pain as he tries to deal with who he is and how his own Mother sees him.

One thing that did bother me with the story was some of the words and phrases used during the sex scenes. There are some descriptive words I like better than others and a lot of the ones used here are not my favorites. However, it didn't really affect my overall enjoyment of the story it was more of a ick feel as I read certain passages.

On a more humorous note, I kept seeing Sirius instead of Sirus and that just kept tripping me up. Again, nothing that affected my enjoyment.

Overall, this was a wonderfully written story. Strong and engaging protags, likable secondary characters, an interesting storyling and of course some hot man on man loving made this a very enjoyable read.

Another winner from Cameron Dane.

I've read a few reviews and it seems I am in the minority because I liked Grey better than Sirus.

Sirus is more open and apparently more sincere, but I really liked Grey's passionate reserve. When they are together, they literally sizzle. There are a lot of ups and downs, but it's something to be expected since the two have their reasons to avoid bringing the attraction they feel for each other to a deeper level. Sirus surrenders to himself sooner than Grey and what he fights is the fear of rejection of not being accepted for what he is (especially regarding his mother, who's denying his sexuality). Grey is afraid to let go and to hurt, but his journey to heal his inner scars is more interesting in my opinion, because when his façade crumbles down it's incredibly intense.

There is a lot of misunderstanding and make-up sex, and it's hot hot hot. Believe me.

I had only one issue: there were too many italicized words for emphasis. I felt it as little trust in my understanding of the important moments in the book on the part of the author.

It was a book I couldn't put down, rough and sweet as its two protagonists.

Basically, this is not a review. It's been a while since I read this story, and there's no way I'd be able to write a proper one.
It's more like a shout-out.

My dear m/m-loving friends, don't you dare miss this! You must meet Grey & Sirus. You're (probably) gonna love Sirus from the very start, but you'll get to love Grey too. He's just... a bit insecure. Promise.
And I bet you'll end up enjoying their story. It's hot. Intense. Sensual. Raw. NSFW. It's all that it should be.

Seriously, just ignore that (somewhat) crappy cover, and give it a go. You know you wanna!

In a word, this book is melodramatic. No one eats...they 'devour their food with gusto'. The don't kiss...they 'ravage each other with clashing teeth & thrusting tongues'. Even getting out of a chair has been wordy-fied to death. All this before you get to the dramatic conversations & melodramatic sex. Having said that, this was the first m/m I ever read & I won't be changing my rating from 4 stars after reading it with a more jaundiced eye. I liked the characters. I liked the development of their relationship. I liked the book, but you definitely need to be in a mood for operatic-like-drama to enjoy this one.

Two men with shattered backgrounds of a different type come together to a middle ground and they open up to each other. Love and acceptance is what comes to an explosive conclusion between Grey and Sirus. Reading this story I got sucked up into the adventure and drama which was so powerful and passionate of how both men reach to that point.
