Edward and Janet are enjoying themselves in London when they are given their next assignment. This one sounds simple enough. All they need to do is get inside a museum after hours and exchange some buttons on display for another, seemingly identical set.
Of course, nothing is as easy as it seems when it comes to top-secret assignments. There’s only one hotel in the tiny Pennsylvania town where they’re staying, and Janet and Edward haven’t been there long before they discover that things aren’t what they appear to be at the Craterstown Hotel.
Can Janet and Edward get the buttons exchanged before the museum shuts for a two-year remodel? Can they work out what’s really happening at the Craterstown Hotel? And does Janet truly want to ride a roller coaster for the first time?
Diana started self-publishing in 2013 and over a decade later she now has over a hundred books available for readers. Writing remains her passion and she has no plans to stop writing in the foreseeable future.
Diana grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, and earned a history degree from Allegheny College. She met her husband, an Englishman, while living and working in Washington, DC. Following their marriage, she moved to Derbyshire. A short while later, the happy couple moved to the Isle of Man.
During their years on the island, Diana and her husband welcomed two children, and Diana completed a master’s degree in the history of the island. In 2008, the family made the decision to move to the US. Now empty-nesters, Diana and her husband are living in the suburbs of Buffalo, New York, and contemplating moving somewhere that doesn’t get snow.
Diana also writes mystery/thrillers set in the not-too-distant future as Diana X. Dunn and Young Adult fiction as D.X. Dunn.
Possibly the worst book of the entire series so far. From the very beginning the reader is confronted with yet another trademark rendition of material from previous books of the series along with a continual lampooning of the British Secret Service as being both bumbling and staffed with simpletons. Makes one wonder if the (American) author would dare describe the FBI or CIA in the same way. What follows then is the usual inane rambling of small talk, interspersed with farcical clandestine activity, volumes of food and abundant deviations from the main story to ensure a self-imposed quota of chapters.
A fairly quick read in the Edward & Janet Bennett series. I've enjoyed the characters and do enjoy reading their adventures. Too low key to be a "thriller"; more an "adventure" IMO. As the blurb states, they are to exchange some buttons in a museum, counterfeits donated by mistake but containing tiny spying devices that "the agency" doesn't want discovered. A lot of the story is everyday-ish; the couple rents a motel room in a small Pennsylvania town and spends a fair bit of time wandering around the area. Janet seems to have lost some of her courage in this story, often asking, "Do we really have to do this" and saying "I'm scared we'll get caught." For a small museum, in an out-of-the way location, this place has an amazing security system that they must find a way to breach.
Edward and Janet Bennett are requested for a 'simple' assignment: replace six counterfeit Civil War buttons in a small Pennsylvania museum with real ones, without anyone finding out about the switch.
But, as usual, nothing is quite as uncomplicated as it seems.
And what is going on with the late-night 'deliveries' at the hotel where the Bennetts are staying?
I don’t know how she does it but Diana Xarissa writes so that you feel like you are right there in the story. It’s like watch8ng a movie, everything flows so smoothly you do t even realize you are reading. Every time I finish one of her books, I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Her characters are my friends, well done, again,
Well, that was exciting! Janet and Edward on a very simple assignment to exchange some buttons in a museum in a tiny town in Pennsylvania. Strange things happening in the hotel they were staying at and a lovely diner across the street. They explored and had some fun. And got taken in for questioning. Yes, you will enjoy this one.
I am really enjoying this series. And this time Janet and Edward find themselves in a tiny town in Pennsylvania, USA. The characters are interesting, and the job is fun! I look forward to the next assignment!
These characters are really well written and enjoyable to read, the description s of the characters and places are wonderful I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mystery stories.
His one looked a bit more boring than he others but as it progressed it had me laughing out loud. I always enjoy this series. Can’t wait for the next one!
Not really sure why this was called the Hamilton Assignment, because Mr Hamilton was only the volunteer caretaker of a museum and was not a "baddie" in any way. However, a very enjoyable story.
Adventures, yes, but I am pleased that they will be going back home at Doveby Dale. Still waiting to find out what is in the safe in the library in the house. This adventure was interesting more so because of the night deliveries than the job they had to do.
