Will the Complex allow them to escape, or will it devour their humanity, until even that has been lost to its white walls?
Nonbinary Baxley must find their way through the Complex, a government facility that has been abandoned and overrun with grotesque, experimental "Others". While struggling to cope with the truth of their abused past, they encounter a slew of horrible people and monsters, until the line between man and creature becomes blurred beyond recognition. Trapped within infinite hallways, never-ending staircases, and deep tunnels, Baxley must reach the bottom floor.... no matter what their journey will cost.
Boxes contains the most horrifying thing a grimdark novel can contain- Characters you want to be happy and thrive. The world isn't going to let them. You know it won't, it can't. But still, on every page I hoped. If you want a book to show you how bad it can get, Boxes is as good as it gets. Sorry for the cliche but it just is. If you want something lighter, try Forrest's other book, Tales From A Mall. It has some lighter more bizarre, surreal and funny fare. But I think this is the deeper, more heartfelt of the two.
