Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades. Master of none.
Or so she'd always been led to believe.
Over the past few years, Kit Colbana has dispatched some of the worst threats the non-human races could have imagined. Pandora—a mother of monsters. Puck, a father of nightmares. Jude, a vampire who nearly drove Kit to the brink of insanity.
Then there was the Lemera, an ages-old creature of myth, born from Kit's own people, an unseen, undead assassin that hunts without rest, kills without remorse. Yet Kit walked away.
Her grandmother's pet assassin failed to kill her so Kit wasn't surprised when yet another unwanted memory from her past shows up, looking to take her down. But her blood-hungry, homicidal aunt disappeared without a trace only hours after arrival.
Is it a reprieve? Or something far worse?
Kit's lover Damon is keeping secrets. Her grandmother's pet assassin, the Lemera, seems to have taken a liking to Kit. And her grandmother, Kit's own worst nightmare, is haunting her dreams.
They're all on a collision course with fate and it can only end one way... bloody.
J.C. Daniels is the alter ego of author Shiloh Walker. J.C./Shiloh has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more...ah...serious works of fiction. She loves reading and writing just about every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest. She writes urban fantasy, romantic suspense and paranormal romance, among other things.
The battle Kit has been running from for so long is almost here.
Kit's aunt has come.to.take her back to the island where Kit's abusive grandmother is waiting to deal with her. The Assembly refuse the aunts demand to turn her over, despite Kit being accused of theft. Fast forward a few months and things are crazy, Kit hasn't had much time to dwell on what her Aunt's arrival and departure (empty handed) mean as the supernatural world has gone crazy. There are urgent jobs being sent out by the Assembly every day it seems. Shifters going on violent rampages, vampires looking control and indulging in bloodbath etc. With his hard she's a been working it's took Kit a long time to notice something is very wrong with Damon, he's hiding things from her and when confronted will.not share, well that sort of behaviour can go both ways so Kit will just do her contracted jobs and not worry about what Damon's getting up to ..... Yes as if................. Kits also having constant nightmares in which her grandmother appears and they are different from the usual.ones, these are not reliving last abuse but seem to be happening in the here and.now. But one things for sure grandma's tired of waiting for Kit to return home so she's coming to Orlando to get Kit herself.......... This book ends in a cliffhanger, but the next book is to be the last in the series......
3.5/5.0 I love, love, LOVE that Ms. Daniels, Kit and the crew are finally back! I have been waiting and checking and waiting and checking for years now, so I was super excited to dive back in. And, I wasn’t disappointed. The story was good and it was wonderful to be back in Kit’s world. Everything in the plot was left hanging, though, not only with the cliff-hanger at the end (which scares me considering how long it took to get this book) but also in all the threads that were woven throughout the story.
So overall, I’m kinda reserving final judgement. If the next book comes out before I forget the entire plot and it closes the holes and leaves me happy, AWESOME! If not, well…. Not sure I’ll keep waiting for endless eons again.
So I was innocently scrolling through Amazon, compiling books for my new release post, when this book suddenly appeared. And my eyes about popped out of my head. I’d waited five long years for another Kit Colbana adventure and suddenly here it was. Then I realized I didn’t remember all of the specifics of the last several books, especially where book 6 (the last book featuring Kit as the main protagonist), left off… so I went on a skimming reread of the last several books in the series. Which admittedly, meant pouring over my favorite scenes from this series and getting all caught up again in the Kit/Damon drama.
For those of you not familiar with this series, Kit Colbana is a private investigator, Assembly bounty hunter, mate of the Cat Clan Alpha, Damon Lee, and general badass. She’s been through some shit (some really bad shit) and has come out the other side. There is a short story at the beginning, which may confuse readers a bit, but according to the author, it takes place directly after Broken Blade, so it will make more sense if you are a long-time reader of the series. I for one was thankful for it.
I won’t get too much into plot specifics, because as with every one of the books in this series, there is a lot going on and many, many plot threads that are left dangling until the very end. But suffice it to say I was riveted to the page throughout. Kit is still a badass, Damon is still way too overprotective and secretive, it’s a wonder she continues to put up with it, and Kit’s best friends still have her back 100%.
The cliffhanger from Haunted Blade plays prominently as this story picks up only several months later. There is a lot of Kit handling bounties and slowly discovering that Damon is hiding something and seems unwilling to come clean about what exactly that is. Readers will finally learn more about Kit’s family’s background; who they really are, and why they continue to hunt her to this day. Chang is still one of my favorite characters and now I REALLY need to know more about him. Like really, really need to know. The ending, and yes it’s another cliffhanger, will blow your mind and leave you on the edge of your seat yearning for the next book in the series.
Will Kit forgive Damon for this new fuck-up? Will she finally defeat her family and get back what they stole from her? I have no idea where this series seems to be going or how long it will take to get there, but I am more than happy to be along for the ride.

J.C. Daniel's Blooded Blade is the 6th installment in the authors Colbana Files. Kitasa aka Kit Colbana is a 1/2 human, 1/2 Aneiri warrior, private investigator, and Assembly bounty hunter. She has faced her fair share of challenges ever since leaving her island behind where she was constantly bullied and abused, and finding her way to Florida and into the arms of one Damon Lee, Alpha of the Cat Clan who is overly protective. The book begins with a story called Forgotten Blade. According to the author, this short story takes place after the events of Broken Blade.
For a book that had a lot going on in it, it also felt like not much happened. Damon and Kit are battling, he wants to protect her, she doesn't want the protection, figures she can take care of herself. We do finally learn so much about Kit's family and why she was treated the way she was, but nothing was resolved. I thought things would have been resolved on that front, but not so much.
Series is still a living work with heart. Just lacks a bit of crispness of action and events, probably because the author puts a lot of time attempting to ensure vividness of the landscape of emotional torture behind current events. TBH it's the old quandary of trying to making every novel in a long tightly woven series into a somewhat standalone novel. The repetition of emotional context tends become duller for both author and long time readers, though filling for those who missed prior books and refreshing events who have had too long a break between series books. Thus the telling of the current tales gets diverted and drawn out -- thus the loss of crispness. Five seconds of "real time" event can become a couple pages or even a couple chapters of emotional reflection. Overall the author did a pretty good job of splitting up emotional review into smaller digestible chunks.
And finally in book 7 the author reveals why the emotional trauma is so important to the master plot.
OMFG! Love Kit. It was worth the wait. I did an almost complete reread (I missed one novella). And I'm glad I did because it picks up right after the events of the last book. Arrg I am so mad at Damon right now. Kit has been busy doing work for The Assembly and Damon has been distant. Kit notices it but she just figures that they have both busy. It's not until an incident involving a scared 13yr old witch and one of Damon's people that Kit catches Damon in an outright lie. Damon's overprotective nature only gets worse and Kit is also dealing with the cursed sword. It is an intense read. There's a bit of a flashback in here and it sort of explains Kit's family history. And yes it ends in a cliffhanger. I thank Netgalley and publisher for this arc. And I hope all the format/editing is fixed in the final copy.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
Updated 9th November 2025.
I forgot to downgrade this book, when I decided ages ago to dump books that I do not care for the love interest. I should have done that ages ago with this series, even though I really like the MC (apart from her relationship with LI) and wanted to see her triumph. The author is very unlikely in the last book to have part of her winning, be dumping her love interest who keeps showing abuser traits. (See original review). ------------- Original review.
I read all the main books to date, in a row. This book and the previous one, I kept feeling that I had read them before, yet I'd only just got the main books.
I mostly liked the world-building and the world. ---- Though the author really needs to keep her timeline straight! I liked most of the characters throughout the series, barring the love interest, as the books progressed I liked him less and less.
Series kept losing points for me because of the LI.
Note, some of the comments below refers to the previous book as well.
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?:Possibly No
Would you recommend?:Probably No
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
(4.5) Intense!!! Woah Intense. As always this world has so much going on that if you do not pay attention you might miss something and be a little lost. I have missed this series and was thrilled when I saw there was a new book. YES!!! Wow some of the mystery is shared, well alot towards the end and even though there is a resolution there is also a little cliff hanger. I am so on board for the next book. I loved this so much I am rereading the series and I don't do that. Grab the book, find a quiet spot and come into this twisted world with depravity and hope. If you have not read this series info is shared to keep you abreast but you might feel a little lost as there is always a lot going on in this series. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #bloodedblade #jcdaniels #shilohwalkerinc #netgalley
It has been entirely too long since reading this characters series, the waiting paid off because Kit is back in an adventure I would have hated to miss!
I owe my local librarian a huge thank you and the author as well because her imagination once again was able to craft and execute one heck of a tale for Kit, her friends and her enemies as well.
As expected there were unexpected reveals and another cliffhanger at stories end which means more anticipatory waiting once again.
The finale is coming and I can hardly wait to see how it works out!
This is an absolutely amazing story by JC. There is so much real emotion, real character and a story that just begs for more. I also felt that there was healing for Kit and for our Author. Sp please if you haven't read any of Kits stories then go grab the 1st book, if you had read the others and thought we would never get another than pick up this 7th book you will not be disappointed either way.
Oh my I need the next book . J.c daniels I beg of you please don't take long . I adore kit and I need her to save Doyle!! This book was brilliant and I need more desperately. This is one of my most favourite series and my heart breaks and bleeds for kit , I cry for her and I holler when she wins whether it's a battle or emotional growth . I love all the side characters too . I just want more . You are a mastermind and thank you for sharing this world with me
Another absolutely brilliant story in this series. The plots and twists confirm that a genius is at the helm. Respect Chang and Love Damon. Looking forward to the next book with bated breath.
This is very good. Thank you author lords for the fantastic story. I couldn't put it down. Thank goodness there will be another book. It's so interesting how the characters have evolved over the course of the books.
Not the end of the story folks - wah, wahhhh. Can we say cliffhanger! I have loved this series and I thought this was going to be “the end” so I have mixed feelings of wanting to get completion for the series and at the same time… Hot diggidy dog - there’s another book.
Kit's in the middle of something big. Something life changing or life ending. Something her grandmother is manipulating. Something she needs to resolve and soon....
