I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, I still live there as well as in Dublin, Ireland. I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. Thanks for taking the time, happy reading.

An attempted assault on an American art student (and daughter of a U.S. Senator while attending college in Ireland lands on the desk of U.S. Marshall Jack Dillon, assigned to An Garda Síochána Special Branch. The senator, from Louisiana, wants the investigation conducted on the down low because he’s afraid the publicity will be bad. For him. Dillon and his partner, DI Paddy Suel, investigate and uncover at least two similar assaults. The FBI arrives in Dublin hoping to recover eight Mark Rothko paintings, valued at over 100 million dollars, that were stolen from a New Orleans Art Museum 20 years ago. The senator’s daughter has a passion for recreating Rothko’s work. Does that make her a person of interest? Maybe.

I enjoyed this latest entry in this long-running series. Jack Dillon is my No. 2 fictional boyfriend – smart, funny, and dedicated to his work. He and Suel are a great team, playing off of each other and watching each other’s backs. I liked watching Dillon work as he figured out who was doing what to whom, and how the loose ends tied together. I also liked the Irish setting – it’s a place I’d like to someday visit.

Faricy’s books are always fun – well-written, witty dialogue, good place setting, and with plots that hold my interest all the way through. I’m always a little sad when they’re over because I know it will be a while before I get to visit with my fictional sweetie again. I eagerly await the next installment. These books can be read out of order.

Faricy also writes the Dev Haskell series, the Corridor Man series, and the Hotshot series.

I really enjoyed the Jack Dillon Dublin Tales. I lived in England for 4 years and took a liking to British, Scotish, and Irish mysteries. Unlike movies that have to display all the blood and gore, Faricy's books are like the books of 50 years ago which concentrates on the action and lets your imagination fill in the blood and guts. Heartly recommend his books, they are a quick and satisfying reads.

Understated

This story portrayed Jack Dillon in a rather understated character compared to what I’ve previously perceived.

There has been an attempted kidnapping of a young woman in Temple Bar. The woman happens to be American and the daughter of a US Senator who wants it investigating but without publicity and without telling the woman that her father has been to Dublin to instruct the Garda what to do. The Senator wants everything low key as he doesn’t want anything to affect his bid for re-election.

Upon investigating it is unveiled that there have been other attempts to kidnap young women in the Temple Bar area but then a young woman is found badly beaten and the victim of rape.

The Senator’s daughter is studying art at Trinity and is undertaking the reproduction of paintings by an artist whose work was stolen many years ago in America and has never been recovered. She wants to gift the reproductions to the Art Gallery from which the paintings were stolen.

During their investigations Dillon and Suel uncover a possible link between the two men attempting the kidnap of young women and the stolen art.

I’m not sure why the FBI are involved aside from, possibly mistakenly, understood that the FBI deal with things internally in America and the CIA deal with matters outside the USA. Nonetheless it’s a good intriguing story that in reality doesn’t test Dillon too much, hence my comment that his character is understated in this story.

It’s a good story and intriguing how Dillon and Suel piece things together with the FBI whilst also uncovering a corrupt cop.

Definitely worth reading.

When a US Senator's daughter, currently in Dublin, is almost abducted, he wants an investigation, but he doesn't want the publicity. Nice dad. Dillon and Paddy are assigned to the case and find out she is not the only one. Others were able to escape as well, until one doesn't. Throw in a $100 million painting heist just to make it more interesting.

I love the Jack Dillon Dublin Tales books. Have enjoyed every one of them. I think dialogue between Jack and Suel so "life-like" (not stodgy as in some books) that they have become near-real folks to me, not characters on a page. Too, the description of some of the places in and around Dublin is wonderful. Thank you, Mike Faricy, for Jack, Marshall Dillon.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. In all honesty, Faricy knocked it out of the park. I love how the mannerisms of Jack Dillion are similar to Dev Haskell in the PI series. The story was engaging, fun and well written!!! Can’t wait for the next one.

Jack and his partner are investigating attempted female abductions when they are drawn into a second seemingly unrelated investigation. Injuries occur.
This is an interesting story and easy to read.

Book 14 in the series

Jack and Paddy are handed two cases to work on. One is the heist referred to in the title and the other is an unreported assault on a US Senator’s daughter. The story takes off from there. A great read.

I like how Mike interconnected the abduction and rape cases with the heist of the paintings in this book and as always Dillon was on top of it.
