Steam Factor: "hot & steamy"..but tastefully done

Tyrell Brown hasn't recovered from his wife's death yet, and reliving the horrific details in court in front of heartless defence attorney is almost more than he can bear right now.
It even gets worse when he is forced to sit right next to the same attorney on a flight to France and then discovers they are en route to the same wedding!
Just how worse can it get for Tyrell?
Victoria Westin is determined to totally ignore the moody and infuriatingly attractive cowboy that sits down beside her.
Now...please someone tell me, just how do you think you can "almost" have sex on an air plane full of people?
Some people have really good imaginations I suppose, it certainly left me with my imagination running wild :O
Anyway, when their feud nearly spoils the wedding, they agree to play nice to each other to keep the peace.
But if it's all for show, why does Victoria suddenly feel so content in Tyrell's arms?
After the plane scene that happened (or didn't) I wasn't sure I would like this story.
This is the first in the "Save the Date"series, but to me this could stand on it's own.
"The Wedding Favor turned out to be a delicious, scandalous theme of enemies-to-lovers.
Featured here is a heroine whose wit and grace never fades in the face of personal insecurities nor family drama.
And Tyrell our damaged hero, manages to be quite the knight in shining armor despite his best efforts to the contrary.
The stakes are high in this emotionally told story, ensuring the tension remains at a fever pitch until the final steamy showdown.
Lots of laughs with these two characters, and with a wealth of quirky sympathetic secondary characters and some pretty zany predicaments that rounded out this utterly enticing romance!
It was a nice surprise, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

“The last thing I want is to ruin this wedding, which is why I’m standing here talking when I’d rather be choking you.”—Tyrell

Tyrell’s worst moment in his life was when his wife died seven years ago. His second worst moment was when he had to face Victoria, the opposing lawyer in the court case against the drunk driver, and relive that horror on the witness stand. His third worst moment was when he found himself sitting next to Victoria on the international flight to France the day after he won the trial. His forth worst moment was when he realized that they were in the same wedding party, and they would have to pretend to be friendly with each other. But, underneath the ruse, Tyrell and Victoria actually get to know each other, and what should have been another moment to add to his worst moments list might actually end up being one of the best…

“I can’t stand him and he can’t stand me. And nothing that happens in the next four days is going to change that.”—Victoria

This was a very fun and entertaining book! Don’t get me wrong, the book starts off so sad as Tyrell is still seriously grieving for his wife and is filled with such sadness and sorrow although he tries to cover it. I felt so bad for him and completely understand his initial hatred for Victoria even though she was just doing her job—a job she didn’t even want to do—by defending her client. However, Victoria knows how to hold her own against Tyrell and is ready to counter his scathing remarks with her own until eventually those sharp barbs become flirty and fun.

What Victoria can’t handle is her overbearing mother. Holy smokes is her mother a piece of work. On one hand, I felt super sad for Victoria; yet, if not for her mother and her misguided attempts at making Victoria happy by controlling her life and using emotional blackmail, Tyrell would never have found his protective side for Victoria. And boy, Tyrell really knows how to go caveman protective, especially when it’s not just Victoria’s mother bringing her down but an unwelcome surprise visitor—courtesy of her mother, of course. I loved how Tyrell stopped fighting Victoria and instead was fighting for her—literally.

I found myself laughing and smiling while reading in many spots in the book. The day of the wedding is pure gold! I love how Tyrell isn’t perfect; in fact, he’s kinda pervy and pure male in some spots which makes the book even more funny. He’s also not a superhero and will comment about how running uphill while carrying someone might kill him—little snippets like these make him seem real and normal!

What surprised me was that the wedding and portion in France only covered about half of the book. The later part was the fallout. Remember, Victoria was the opposing lawyer so as you can imagine, there are all sorts of fingers pointing at ethical rules despite the fact the case was over when they were in France. The book then took on sort of a New Adult feel and drifted for a bit where it was Victoria trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life while Tyrell is going through his own changes. Still, a romance through and through and a fun one at that!

Overall, this is an entertaining story with two great leads and a fun romance (medium-heat level), and I didn’t want to put the book down! This is a 5 out of 5 for me!

The Wedding Favor by Cara Connelly is an Avon publication. I was provided a copy of this book from the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

For Ty, a man that lost his wife in a drunk driving accident, Vicky is a cold hearted bitch attorney. Ty gets the last laugh when he wins the settlement. After the verdict, he hops on a plane to France for his friend Isabella's wedding. The last person on earth he expected to see on this flight was the "bitch on wheels" herself. Not only is she on the plane , but he has to sit right next to her. After a few Jack Daniels, Ty starts to loosen up and finds that Vicky is a very attactive woman.

Striking up a conversation, Vicky reveals that she too is on her way to a wedding- her brother, Matt's wedding. She tells Ty about her controlling mother and how her fiance cheated on her. Before they knew it the two were on the verge of panting all over each other. Ty's alcohol consumption caused him to pass out before anything happened. He realized what almost happened and moved away from Vicky for the rest of the flight. But, he hasn't seen the last of Vicky. That wedding? Yes, you guessed it. Not only are they attending the same wedding, but Vicky is the groom's sister and Isabelle has assigned Ty the job of keeping Vicky company.

Back and forth bickering ensues as the two attempt to pretend to get along for the sake of the wedding. Even when Vicky's mother arrives and things really get tense.

But wait... There's more! Vicky's former fiance is also a guest and is trying to get Vicky to take him back... with her mother's approval!

This contemporary romance/chick lit novel was a super fun, super sexy, super sweet novel. Vicky will finally make some serious life choices on her own without her mother's constant manipulation. She will also take a chance on seeing her dreams come true in a career of her own chosing. But what about love?

Ty has made some big mistakes with Vicky. When it looks as though she may slip through his fingers, Ty has to do some hard thinking. Will he be able to find peace about the circumstances of his wife's death? Will he understand the way Vicky feels before it's too late?

Ty and Vicky never have that starry eyed, love at first sight type romance. They are fire and ice all the way. When they aren't at each others throats , they are tearing each other's clothes off. The story is light and humorous, but there are some real emotional moments as well. At times I thought things might have gotten just a little over the top, but overall an enjoyable read.

This one gets an A.

I just totally enjoyed this book. It has complex characters, family dymanics, past ghosts, romance, hot steamy scenes, tender moments, and humor. The author does more than a sufficient job in developing the characters. She gives you an insight into their past, so you can totally understand their actions and feelings in this story.
When the story starts, you can just feel the deep tension between the two main characters, Victoria and Tyrell.
Victoria has many sides to her personality- an intelligent, snooty, uptight attorney,or an innocent, yet very sexy blond that is also a smartie-pants, or an aspiring actress working as a barista or a child-like woman that can never please her mother/boss, known as Cruella de Vil. I just fell "in like" with Vicky.
Tyrell is a complex man- a Texan Cattle Rancher, and a grieving Widower that is still very bitter over the death of his wife by a drunk driver years ago, and a quick-temper hot-head, seductive cowboy with Texas drawl that could melt even a granny's panties, and a college professor, that is a very loyal friend. I just loved Ty!
This story takes you from a courtroom in Texas, to a sexual tense flight over the Atlantic, to a Castle in France, and back to a ranch in Texas, and a college campus in NYC. It also takes your emotions all over the chart, while at times being down-right hilarious. I just loved the bantering between Vicky and Ty, as it was classic, with great one-liners. My favorite is the one about "Aren't you suppose to call a doctor if it lasts more than four hours?"
Sure there are a couple of scenes that are just too silly and not all that realistic. The book also lost a little of its excitement after they leave France. Yet, that is true in real-life, once you return from a vacation, life can seem dull. But the author, picks up the volume with a few twists here and there.
The cast of secondard characters are so entertaining. Lets see we have:
The Bride, Isabelle- Ty's former lover and now his best friend.(Ty and Isabelle's past relationship would make a good novella,)
The Groom, Matt- Vicky's protective brother.
The mother of the Groom, Adrianna- aka "Cruella de Vil", is of course, Vicky's mother, as well as a partner at the firm that employs Vicky.
The Ex-Boyfriend, Winston/Winnie- he is Vicky's cheating, jealous, ex.
Add in a big-boobed stripper, a horney bestman, a celebrity couple, a loyal BBF, a theater troupe,a straight-up ranch foreman and a lonely neighbor, and you have a stayed up too late night, since you can not put the book down.
I am looking forward to Vicky's friend story in the next book in this series, The Wedding Vows.

The Wedding Favor by Cara Connelly 5 Stars

I received this book free from Goodreads Giveaway (arrived just 17 days after I was notified!!). Thank you to the author for her generosity and Dana at Harper for listing the Giveaway.

This book is complete with sass, Texas swagger, attitude, anger, laughter and love (and sex). It is 355 pages and could have easily been divided into two books, but I appreciate the author NOT doing that.

This is the story of Victoria/Vicky Westin, a New York attorney, and Ty/Tyrell Brown, a Texas rancher, who start on opposing side of a courtroom. Ty cant't stand the "bitch on wheels" lawyer and she knows it. After the trial ends, they both are glad to never see each other again! But fate had other plans for these two! They find themselves thrown together again and again.

Vicky and Ty masterfully play out the hate/love/hate aspect. They can get irritated with each other one minute while resisting the urge to kiss the next. Anyone who has ever had someone who can make them both furious and deliriously happy will love this book.

There is so much flavor and so much fun in The Wedding Favor I couldn't stop turning the pages. With a sexy Texas cowboy who has a short fuse and a (presumed) uppity lawyer, you can hardly go wrong.

THE WEDDING FAVOR, A Tragicomedy of Errors With a Technicality & a Giveaway!

Disclosure: E-Galley provided by Publisher via Edelweiss for review purposes. No remuneration was exchanged and all opinions expressed herein are my own unless otherwise noted.

MY ORIGINAL REVIEW rested on a medical technology issue with someone speaking on a ventilator. I said one could not. As you can see in the comments below, Cara very kindly set me right and it is possible. I did try to confirm, checking with several people but not Cara since it was a tour review. I should have gone right to her even though it was a tour. I apologize for being incorrect, and thanks to Cara for setting me right.

This is a great story with interesting characters in life changing situations with a lot of emotion and action (fighting and hooking up).
It was heart breaking at points and heart warming at others. At times it was completely unbelievable, for example, a mother with few or no maternal feelings saying a relationship where fidelity was negotiable.

I’m not questioning anything to do with the story’s fun, hot, appeal. The hero, Ty, feels like a mix of a less freaky Matthew McConaughey and Bradley Cooper with a soupçon of Owen Wilson for good measure. Vicky, heroine is Reese Witherspoon, Julia Stiles and Jennifer Lawrence in one skinny little bauble. Everyone else is more or less support cast except that the heroine’s mother is like a blonde Joan Collins in Dynasty.

The “Technicality”

But, you folks who come by often know that an inaccuracy which affects or upon which rests, a major plot point really, really, really bugs me. Really.

If it is a fluffy point or an alternate world, I can give it.

But, this is not speculative fiction. And the point I am concerned with is vital to the plot. The plot rests on Ty winning a civil lawsuit against the guy convicted of manslaughter in his young wife’s death. Much of the value of which rests on whether the poor woman woke up in the middle of her coma to tell, discuss, verbally tell, Ty that she was too damaged to get better and to turn off the life support.

She is on a trach and a ventilator. HERE IS WHERE I WAS WRONG:

You can’t really talk on a ventilator because there’s a tube down your throat.

In court this wouldn’t be arguable.
It would be stipulated to, a fact, irrefutable.

Without this, the suit might have been halfway successful but not entirely and the character paradox of making nice while holding back the troops on two fronts would have been not such a big deal. The lawyer for the defendant who failed on this point would be so incompetent that one would wonder if they had totally faked their law license. I think a lawyer would have set aside the portion of a jury’s decision against this point.

In other words – this is a big deal. It made something I had to work against in my reaction to this great story.
There have to have been other ways of having this point come across: A health care directive, conversations with witnesses, beliefs expressed in writing.

And, I feel like a total heel, because I am apparently the only person to notice or who cares that this detail is wrong.

The devil is in the details.

As I continued through the book, I kept thinking, “This is going to come up as a way of resolving Ty and Vicky’s legal paradox.” but it does not.

Look, I am also very behind in my work. My attempt to learn if this was pulled from the text has not been a success. But my review is due in the morning. I was unable to reach the publicist.

Like I said, otherwise, this is a smashing story about beautiful people, great sex, love and an ugly secret or two.

If I am wrong, or if the point has been edited from the final copy, Yay! Otherwise, I recommend the story, but be prepared to mentally edit out this event with something plausible.

Bwhaha *rubs hands together* The Wedding Favor...It. Was. Awesome! There was so much drama-fied goodness as enemies Victoria and Tyrell--who've been on opposite sides of a court case--have to suck it up, pretend they like each other and flirt their asses off to keep from ruining their friend/brother's wedding weekend.

Oh man, could these two throw a barb! I mean, they've got sharp tongues and don't hold back. But it so worked and really carried a fun or sexual undercurrent most of the time which made it so entertaining to watch and had me smiling as they zinged each other.

Okay, so why they're enemies. Years earlier Ty's wife was killed in an accident and Victoria is the lawyer representing the defendant. Gah, right? So freaking messy!

I really liked both Ty and Victoria. He's got that whole laid back cowboy swagger going on and Victoria--even though she came off pretty cold at first and I really didn't want to like her any more than Ty did--really won me over and had some nice fire and passion in her. I love when a character can change my mind like that. The two together? The chemistry was just amazing and they played off each other nicely. And lordy when things heat up. They. Heat. Up. Total *fan yourself* steaminess.
How was a woman supposed to keep her hands off Tyrell Brown when everything from his long, lean legs to his sun-kissed mop of hair cried out to be stroked and squeezed and made love to?

It couldn't be done.

In the end, it was Ty who drew the line. "Sugar, I never thought I'd hear these words come out of my mouth, but you need to quit fucking me and go to sleep."

He was right, but she pouted anyway.

Laughing at her mulish expression, he tucked her in close to his side.

There was a lot of humor in this one. I chuckled over quite a few bits but there was also some really just make your chest ache and your eyes tear up stuff happening too. Both Ty and Victoria had so much more going on than they showed the world. Victoria was dealing with a pretty terrible ex and an infuriating mother and, man, I felt for her. And watching Ty struggle with the loss of his wife, the guilt over her death and his attraction to Victoria. He had me tearing up like you wouldn't believe. I loved that there was more to these two than you'd expect.

I really enjoyed Connelly's writing style. It was easy to get lost in, flowed nicely and had me reaching for my book every second I could spare. I flipping love finding books like that. Ones you just can't get enough of, ya know? Gah, they're so good! The humor and heart warming journey Tyrell and Victoria go on really made for a great read and has me excited to see what comes next in the series.

The Wedding Favor is a wonderful look at how two people who seem to be total opposites turn out to have similar issues and desires and are a perfect match. Ty meets Victoria when she is the lead attorney for the insurance company that is fighting Ty's lawsuit against the slimeball who killed his wife while driving drunk. When Ty wins the case and ends up on a plane to France siting next to Vicky, things take a sexy turn when both of them start seeing each other through alcohol glasses. As fate would have it, they are going to the same wedding and sparks fly whenever they are near each other. Through a series of near misses, the heat factor between the two keeps rising until they finally get together just before the wedding and then chaos ensues!

I loved the way that the two would take a step towards each other and then some thought would cross their mind and boom-step back. I thought it was fairly realistic that they would go hot and cold with each other given the emotional history of both Ty and Vicky with other people. Sometimes it can be very annoying when a couple keeps having "misunderstandings" that tear them apart, but that was not the case with this story. The attraction between them is so strong that we the reader will put up with anything to see them together at last. The supporting characters are perfectly done and add a hint of humor, villainy, and sadness when needed.

I'm looking forward to The Wedding Vow due out in 2014.

This was my first read from Cara Connelly and I thought it was a whole lot of fun. I’ll admit, I was a little deceived by the cover, it looks like a close up of a historical cover to me but this is actually a contemporary romance. Victoria is a lawyer who has just been trying an extremely hard case that did not go her way at all. She’s ready to put it all behind her and attend her brother’s wedding in France and maybe steal a little bit of rest and relaxation. Ty has been emotionally dragged through a trial and is extremely happy with how it ended. He can’t wait to put the pain, and the opposing council, out of his mind. But when they end up sitting next to each other on a first class flight out to France, Victoria and Ty are thrown together again. I loved the banter between these two; there was great chemistry and the dialogue was hilarious. I was almost instantly drawn in to their story. I loved how well Ms. Connelly wrote Victoria and the pain she felt. I did feel like there was one too many ‘runaway train’ moments but they did add to the overall humor and storyline. A really enjoyable first read for me and I’m excited for what may come next with this series.

Tyrell Brown is stuck at a destination wedding with the woman he despises most. Victoria Westin has been a thorn in his side for months, and now they're forced into this charade of pretending to be friendly to make sure the wedding goes smoothly. Except, darn it, she's growing on him. Vicky's had her share of hardships in life, but nothing compares to the feelings this sexy cowboy is instilling. And once they're back in the States, things heat up and get even more complicated. Could be they both had each other pegged wrong.

This is Connelly's debut book, and overall, I'm impressed. She has a smooth voice, apt to humor, and knows her conflict. The love/hate relationship between the hero and heroine was hot. The array of secondary characters didn't detract, but added to the story. The setting, bouncing from France to Texas to New York, was illustrated perfectly. My issue lay in the pacing. I could've done without the last half to quarter of this book. I understand why she separated them and allowed a "cooling off" period, but it only dragged the plot and made me lose interest. In saying that, I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of her books.

To Tyrell Brown, Victoria Westin is the coldhearted lawyer who has put him through hell on the stand. She has been making him relive his wife’s death and the heartache he has lived with in the years since she has passed. But on a long flight to France they begin to see past the courtroom over a few drinks and forced togetherness. In the light of day some of the same reservations and hostility resurface. But when they turn up at the same wedding, they hatch a plan to keep bride and groom happy and the fact that they are enemies a secret.

The more acting they do, the more they learn about one another and the more they like.

I really enjoyed this book. I appreciated all the dynamics that made up these complex characters, their families and the many relationships that are woven within. I found it hard to put down and impossible to forget. I am ordering the next books in the series because I was so bummed when this one ended and I am so curious to see what is going on with the others.

Definitely a great read. The story moves nicely and the characters seem real.

I finished reading this book a moment ago and as usual I forgot to update my reading cuz I have such a goldfish memory -__-.
Well I gave 4 stars to this book cuz (even if it's ridiculous ) I love this kinda books.. Harlequin is a great french edition. When I need some love in my life all I have to do is picking a book from my "Harlequin" books and I'm sure to have an overdose of love ❤❤❤ And I wasn't disppointed. This book is cool, I really enjoyed reading it and I loved the characters of this story... Tyrell and Victoria are amazingly annoying -_- especially Tyrell. Every girl can see herself in Victoria cuz (its my own opinion) she's funny, confident but she has at the same time some problems that everyone can have... And her relationship with her mom is so complicated that we can only hate her mom but in the end of the book we realized that "cruella" is not as bad as she pretends. .. We find in this book a lot of emotions, I don't know if I'm a sensitive girl but sometimes I couldn't hold back my tears...

Tyrell is a tortured hero, in the true sense, since his wife was killed in a car accident. Vicky is the lawyer who represented the defendant in his case, and not by choice (her mother is a partner in the law firm). Immediately after the trial, they end up sitting next to each other on a flight to Europe, on the way to a wedding that they are both coincidentally attending. This is an enemies to lovers story, with undeniable sparks, but a lot of hurt to overcome. Ty is a true alpha, with buried feelings. Vicky is beautiful & accomplished, but made to feel inferior by her mother & ex-fiance. She is also a bit of a klutz! There was a lot of back & forth in the romance & a satisfying HEA. Loved it!

I received this book through a Goodreads giveaway. First time reading from this author. I loved this book. I wanted to hate Tyrell Brown and his points of view but yet, he had an endearing personality, which really comes out when he gets to know the "bitch on wheels" Vicky. I could have done without the constant F bombs, but I got over that. There were a few laugh out loud moments and it had a rom com feel to it, but with more sex. I would recommend this book and I look forward to reading more from this series.

Het verhaal zit zo goed in elkaar dat je wilde blijven lezen. Ik was zo 100 blz veder dat ik dacht ik ben al een uur aan het lezen hoe dan het voelt als 10 minuten. Zeker een aanrader!!!

Fun, feisty and fantastic! This debut novel for author Cara Connelly begins a trilogy that promises to become a favorite among contemporary romance fans. The characters in this story are such fun to get to know, and the settings of Paris, Houston are dazzling, and the romance is sizzling. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I look forward to the next novel in the series!

They aren't even on friendly terms. The guy called her "bitch on wheels". Twice.

So after they had a few alcohol, fight forgotten, and all is well already? She wanted to shag him some more cos he's hot.

That all basically happened in 6% of my read. That is LIGHT YEARS fast, fast!

No, I quit. Bye.

While romance isn't typically a genre I read, I found this to be an exception to the rule! Great cast of characters, sexy main characters, and stellar imagery, you will feel like you are in an old french castle with a sexy cowboy, guaranteed!

Looking forward to more Cara Connelly!

Mix one laid-back cowboy, add one straitlaced lawyer who secretly wanted to become an actress, pour a snobby ex-fiance, stir in a dash of sauce (read: women trouble), and hilarity will ensues. A must-read!

I didn't think it was possible for this book to be even better than the novella The Wedding Date but it was! It was so touching and romantic and real. Ms. Connelly does put her characters through the wringer but it's part of what makes this such a compelling and strong romance. I'm a total fan!

I received a copy of this book through Goodreads Giveaways.

I really enjoyed this book, started enjoying reading it from the first page and continued till the end. All I need to know now is.. is there a part 2? Cause I really want to know how the characters play out from here.

ME ha encantado leer esta historia, una bonita historia de amor que empieza de forma un poco tormentosa. GENIAL!!!

This is my 2nd Cara Connelly book and I’m totally hooked! I want to devour them all! This was a fantastic enemies to lovers with banter, steam 🔥🔥, fun and laugh out loud moments (well I totally may have giggled).
.
Our hero and heroine wind up sitting next to each other flying first class to Paris (would be nice right?). Only problem being the fact that the heroine represented our hero’s wife’s killer in a civil suit in court so they definitely hate each other. What could be worse than sitting next to each other for 14 hours? Being part of the same bridal party at a wedding and having to fake interest and flirting with each other. The problem? The not so fake interest and they TOTALLY have the most amazing chemistry (seriously).
.
The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that the hero was a bit of a jerk. A hot, smooth talking cowboy but also a bit of a jerk in the way he treated women (thinking he was God’s gift to women) and he kept saying “honey” so much it felt like someone scraping their nails on a blackboard. However, he totally stood up for the heroine when even her mother threw her under the bus so I love him at the same time. Other than that (slight) irritation I thoroughly enjoyed it and totally need to get my hands on more books by this author!

I couldn't stop reading this book. It had a delicious moreish quality, with its biting wit, flammable heat and sexy characters. The plot rolls along well, not too slow, not too fast, but with plenty of snappy, sizzling dialogue between the two characters. Ty is more than the typical Southern charmer bachelor, mourning his wife and all, and Vicky more than the b**ch-on-wheels Ty thinks of her at the beginning. Even the secondary characters were drawn well, even if the cheating, snarling ex was perhaps a little cliched.

All in all, if a book leaves me incapable of putting it down, it earns a major tick in my book. This was my first Cora Connelly book, but it won't be my last!

"Regalo de Boda" fue un libro que comenzaba bien, pero que terminó pareciéndome absurdo; me pareció completamente insoportable el protagonista, y la historia de amor no es nada profunda ni memorable. Solo hay algunas situaciones divertidas que son rescatables, pero en general no es un libro que se queda contigo.
