Konami Kanata (jp. こなみかなた), is a Japanese cartoonist best known for her cat characters Chi's Sweet Home. Her works revolves around the daily life of house cats.
She went to Futaba-Kōtō Academy in Suwa, Nagano Perfecture. Her first published manga as a profesional manga-ka was the short story Puchi Neko Jamu Jamu in Nakayoshi Manga Magazine in 1982. The magazine is a part of Kodansha Publishing, in which she published her works ever since her first debut.
More of the same and that's a good thing. The quality of this series continues and expectations are met. Chis is still getting used to her new home and now she ventures off out into the world from this new home for the first time. Rather than cute, funny episodes; this time Chi has some shocks, scares and wonders at new unusual things as she gets used to the world around her. Not laugh out loud funny this time but more endearing as we react to Chi's feline nature and reactions to the human world. I'm also enjoying the peak inside daily Japanese family life as well. Chi gets to know new friends better and meets up with an old one. Lovely, series that will surely last as a classic.
Summary: As Chi becomes adjusted to her new surroundings, she meets new animal friends and explores the outside for the first time.
My Review: Chi is excited to have a new cat friend come to visit her, but unfortunately Alice explores and judges Chi's surroundings and is uninterested in talking or playing with Chi. As soon as I saw Alice I knew she was a spoiled kitty, and I really liked that Alice's personality (kind of prissy) fits her polished, perfect looks.
The next scene is probably one of my favorites scenes in the whole series. When Chi becomes more comfortable with the stairs and goes upstairs to "daddy's room" the office to explore she wrecks havoc in her wake. When Chi rolls around the room, she accidentally gets her foot stuck on a roll of tape and as she walks of course it trails behind her and she is terrified, thinking it is following her. If you have ever had a pet where something similar like this happens, then you can easily relate to this. Not only was I cracking up when I read this scene, but I can also relate personally because once around Halloween, my bunny got her foot caught in a fake cotton webbing (I think she thought it was a nest) and when she noticed it trailing behind her, she freaked out and went flying around the house! It was hilarious, but I was afraid she would have a heart attack so I luckily (purposefully) stepped on it to get it off her and it came off her foot without any injuries thank god. Back to the review, what made this scene even better was Chi's reaction to what just happened. At the end her eyes turn into slits like (whaaaaaa? Jus' happened?) and she's horrified, and knows her owners will be mad, but she decides to play dumb. Then the scene gets even more entertaining as the Yamada's come home and just produce a very big sigh knowing who the culprit was immediately.
I'm so happy that Chi figured out the pet door! You could just tell that she was traumatized by it previously, but seeing the Yamada's behind the door outside gave her the motivation to finally check-out. Yay for Chi! I love that this series can actually make me feel real joy for a character.
This volume has so many great scenes, it may be by far my favorite yet in the whole series!
Like previous volumes, this one is endearing and a pretty accurate look at life with a cat. This one features Chi exploring outside her new home, and finding new cats and old friends. We get a glimpse at Chi's cat mother, and I expect that will feature prominently in future volumes. This volume had a bit more solo adventure for Chi, rather than at home scenes, which made up the majority of some previous volumes, but there is still a good bit of that, and Chi is delightfully confident, despite her inexperience. The series is growing a bit here, but isn't straying too far from it's roots, and is a slice of pure joy and lightness, which I needed right about now.
Chi reunited with Blackie/Bear-cat! They live super close too. Chi's mommy also lives really close, I hope she gets to reunite with her mommy and siblings.
Chi is becoming braver each day when she goes exploring further from her home. She also comes across a calico, cat who actually recognizes Chi and tries to take her back to her mommy. She's now known as auntie.
I hope Chi gets to find her mommy and get to visit her! That would be so great!
These people stressed me the fuck out. 😭 How and why do they keep letting Chi loose outside? Irresponsible owners—had no fucking business owning a pet, fr. Chi is also really annoying, I like Blackie the bear cat more.
Chi explores his new home, makes new friends (who know his mama), and rediscovers Blackie, who now lives up the street from him. Lots of foreshadowing that he will be reconnected with his mama soon!
Buena lectura como siempre, en este tomo entramos un poco más en detalle en el pasado de Chi y ella intentando recordarlo. Además me quede con intriga de que va a pasar en el proximo tomo.
