Man of the Fields: The Next Crusade for Salem

Rate this book
In a world where the Inquisition rules all of Europe with an iron fist, America is completely taken over by the witches of Salem and persecuted witches from all around the world, creating their own utopia. For 300 years, the Inquisition and the witches of America have fought for world supremacy, using advanced technology and gruesome warfare, which has finally led them to a stalemate. However, war is rumored to return once again when Arturo Mattei, a young former inventor turned missionary, is caught in the middle of this religious war because of an invention he regrets creating. This invention could not only change the war, but the entire fate of humanity.

......Hands down..... without a doubt..... the absolute worst book I have ever read. I have no words. I love to read, but this book genuinely wasted my time. The plot was nonexistent, the characters were dreadful, the grammar and general writing were abhorrent, and I still have no idea what the Man of the Fields had to do with literally anything. This book would be best used for fire kindling.....

This book has an amazing concept.... that was executed with one dimension. It was as if reading the first draft of a novel skipping extensive peer review and beta reading. I only finished it to see where it would turn next and that last turn was just a dud.

This was not as good as I was hoping it would be. The writer didn’t write with much emotion at all, really. The concept was interesting but I’m not sure if it was done to its full potential.

It was mostly just the merciless killing of babies. And Pino and Arturo talking like they’re in the Great Gatsby.

This book had great ideas going into it but there were so many loose ends. I give credit to the author for thinking of this concept for this book but with a greater mind and a greater writer this could have been a really awesome book and a series of books. It felt this author was given a deadline to finish this book and key moments were just fast tracked to move on to the next part of the book and fast forward the story to the next event without any explanation or thoughtful explaining what led to the next scene or event. I felt really let down by this and I wish there was more detail given to character development.

“With furious anger, they zoomed and shot at the enemy darts. The duo saw a small fleet of enemy darts that darted toward the Archangel at full force, completely destroying it, killing the darts instantly.”

Love the idea behind the book but the writing is bad and the story doesn’t make any sense.

this book was ok. The concept was good, but the story would benefit of having a couple hundred extra pages, especially the ending.

I really love the idea of the book, but the writing/final product was great. Needs to be rewritten an more fleshed out.

*sigh* I’m not 100% sure of what I just read. I think the author could have used some more time to research what he was trying to say. Something along the lines of war, religion and politics and maybe something to do with the humanities. This novel was extremely surface level with its themes. Not to mention that the two main characters referred to each other as “old chap”, or “old boy” every other sentence which was very distracting.

If I had to guess I think the author wanted to point out how fighting over differences is bad and how we’re all human and deserve the right to live as long as we don’t hurt one another?

The author used a LOT of stereotypes in this novel to further push his idea. I also thought some of the violence in this book was excessive and over the top. TLDR do not recommend.
