Abundance is a work made of "slender and elegant poems." Poage takes his experiences in Wichita and Bosnia to the reader with a precision we are unaccostomed to. Indeed, his poems are as much about what is left out as what is there.
"He is a poet to love and to reread, a poet of compassion picturing for us / all the love / that must go on."
I have the honor of being named the Poet-in-Residence at Dzemal Bijedic University in Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina for 2017-18. I will be doing workshops and readings around Bosnia (perhaps other countries in the region), teaching ESL which is my part-time job at Wichita State University and doing my writing. This will be my 10th visit to Bosnia but the first time I have lived in country. I am excited and look forward to our time in Bosnia. I have twelve collections of poems published with my 13th book being published by January, 2021.
I love the fact that with each rereading, his poetry takes on new texture, revealing that between the words exists a depth of meaning only glimpsed with a slow savoring. I find myself anticipating the raw exposure of certain phrases.
