The dragon Herald has been unleashed on the world, intent on obliterating the entirety of humanity, and only Troias has the power and ability to face the terrible beast and survive. To have any chance at defeating the monster, the human race has to band together against it, an unlikely prospect at best when leaders of the nations refuse to accept the threat facing them. And Herald isn't the only threat the new March of Northern America faces. An enemy led by a shadowy ruler no one can find hovers at their southern border; powerful Awakened Omegas stand against humanity's continued expansion; Luc and the remnants of the Undugu linger at the borders of the March, their intentions unknown. Troias and Annalise face the deadliest foes they've yet seen in the Shift, but even if they overcome these enemies, one more threat lurks the Three, keepers of the Source and Herald's ultimate masters, have decided that Troias has to die in the name of the Shift - and they'll stop at nothing, not even the destruction of entire planets, to make that happen. To face these beings, Troias must become more than he's ever been and risk everything he's gained in the Shift for the good of all mankind...

Some of the book I enjoyed very much, but there were other parts that were very disappointing and sad. First of all my likes I enjoyed the character of Troias and Anna Lise. They were the best parts of the book. They had a great chemistry throughout the series. The problem is, I disliked was the plot armor was letting a certain character get away and cause harm at the end of the book. That was totally unnecessary. The bad guy who should’ve been put down along time ago, killed a very likable character not cool. The series is worth reading, except for the plot armor good book good series series ended to soon not enough of the story was told, didn’t like the ending.
Thus passes the tale of Troias and Annaliese, and it ends pretty well. 4.5 stars again (man, I do a lot of these recently) as it is a bit longer than it really needed to be. Also, villains that keep coming back really get on my nerves; it's lucky not to lose a whole star for that alone.
Otherwise everything is a logical progression, Troias recognizing that he needs to drop the gloves in his campaign of "for your own good" conquering. The Shift books will evidently continue, following a Japanese storyline, but I'm not sure I will pick those up. I don't typically like the spin-off/sidequest books, so I guess it'll depend on my mood/whatever else is out at the time.
Kyle Johnson always ends his stories satisfactorily , Troias , Annalisa ,Max , Angelina , Spencer and all that fought for a future carry on doing what they do , Herald is the big boggie Dragon that threatens everything they've struggled to build , but humans simply don't give up and they won't all survive but they'll die fighting.
These books are worth your valuable time. A well written post-apocalyptic adventure with a main character who slowly snowballs into a behemoth of power. Excellent character development, masterfully woven storyline, and blistering pace. Love, death, heartache, and redemption. Look forward to hunting down some more books by Kyle Johnson!
It was sadly below average. Its a book with the same story (that already happened in the previous book) happening 3 more times. Its weird for me when after finishing a 5+ book series , instead of being sad I have no more of them I was simply happy that it was finally over.
A satisfying end to a great series. My only real complaint is naming the two principal female leads Annalise and Angelina... I've lost count of how often I had to re-read a paragraph because I had misread which of the two was talking or acting. ;)
So many series slowly get worse as they go or seem to end in a rush. This one started strong and improved. Each book went in a different direction, but I was happy, especially with this one...
