Ariana Donovan has one final day in San Francisco before she has to go back to the boring small town life of Laurel Bay and she wants to make it a memorable one. Always the wild child, she’s never met a dare she could say no to. So when her friends dare her to introduce herself to the gorgeous man sitting across the café from them—and maybe have one last fling before going home—how can she resist?
Will Jameson is more than ready to leave California and put his past behind him, but he still has one day left before flying east and returning to the Marines. He had plans to spend the day doing a whole lot of nothing. Or at least he did before a beautiful blonde walked over and invited herself to join him for brunch.
How do you capture a lifetime of memories in one day? In the morning, they’ll go their separate ways, or will fate intervene?
Samantha Chase is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller of contemporary romance that’s hotter than sweet, sweeter than hot. She released her debut novel in 2011 and currently has more than seventy titles under her belt – including THE CHRISTMAS COTTAGE which was a Hallmark Christmas movie in 2017! She’s a Disney enthusiast who still happily listens to 80’s rock. When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading romances, playing way too many games of Solitaire on Facebook, wearing a tiara while playing with her sassy pug Maylene…oh, and spending time with her husband of 30 years and their two sons in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
This is a cute prequel to the first story in the Donovans series. We get to see the origin of Ari and Will and that one day they spent together in SF. How they met, and connected on such an amazing level. This is a good start to a series (I read a different book in this series first and now I am going back to check out the rest!). I am so excited to pick up Dare Me, which will give me Ari and Will's full story!
Romance trope: best friend's sister Series: The Donovans Length: 76 pages
Plot: Ariana is looking to have one last adventure before she moves back to her boring, small hometown. She meets Will, who is doing the same, and they find that they're perfect for each other even if the timing is wrong - right up until the moment when Will realizes she's his best friend's little sister and that's going to be a problem.
Commentary: It's funny - the fact that Will's never met Ariana before but knows that he'll never be good enough for her according to her brother's standards exactly proves Ariana's point that her family is stifling her and explains why she's worried about moving back home. I wonder how it will play out in the next book?
I saw as I reviewed the latest the book in the Donovan series (Charm Me, May 2023) that there is a prequel novella to the series. My library had it but when I checked Amazon it is currently available for free so I downloaded it. The first full novel in the series is Dare Me and the set up is Arianna Donovan has one perfect day in San Francisco after finishing a three month internship. She meets the perfect guy Will Jameson. She is returning to her small town in NC and he has another year of service in the Marines. They exchange numbers, but he ghosts her. Until he shows up in her hometown as a new business partner with her overprotective brother. That book is light hearted and fun. In this 77 page prequel novella you get the more extended details of Arianna’s and Will’s day together. It is sweet and fun. You don’t need to read it before the first book but it is a nice bonus from the author.
Loved Ariana and Will's story! Ariana's friends dare her to go talk to the hot guy at a near by table in the restaurant. These two end up spending the day together and seeing all the sights before they leave and go back to their hometowns. Will ends up realizing right before they part that he knows her brother and keeps it from Ariana. Can't wait to see what happens when they see each other again. Looking forward to this new series!
A love a good romance read, and one without profanity every few words, (other authors should take note that a book will sell without them, (those get deleted pretty quickly). This book held my attention, but I was constantly trying to figure out which one was talking until I read he said/thought or she said/thought. I personally would like a better ending as if it were a stand alone book.
Loved the shorty story that introduced us to Ari and Will. It was sweet, sexy and love at first sight. I have never been more intrigued by a game of truth or dare ever, until now. The met by chance, but looks like her family will keep them apart. Can’t wait to read the continuation of this story in Dare Me.
A delightful look at how Will and Arianna meet – mostly as the result of a truth or dare challenge. These two have a “perfect day” in San Francisco, but are both traveling back to the east coast. They vow to keep in touch – but one of them knows a reason why this may not work.
A setup which definitely makes you ready for the “full story” in Dare Me.
I loved this book and cannot wait to read the next. Yes it ends on a cliffhanger that I wasn't expecting but not a frustrating one. It leaves you excited for more. I feel like Samantha Chase books get better and better each time. This one has so much chemistry and was playful and fun
Love a little prequel to a new series!! I love these characters already and can't wait to meet this family now. Love a brothers best friend book and this one is going to be one wild ride. I fell in love with Ariana & Will and how they had this amazing connection from there first meeting and how open and honest they were to each other. Great start.
This could have been five star book. It describes itself as a prequel. It was actually broken down into two short stories claiming to be a book. This was this couple's first meeting based on a Truth or Dare game. Perfect date and clean adventures in less than 24 hours. Then the book stops. This should have been in the beginning of "their" book Not a one chapter cliff hanger.
A delightful prequel that makes you fall in love with the main characters. Meeting on a dare leads to Arianna and Will spending the whole day and night getting to know one another and building a genuine connection. I immediately dove into the next book in the series as soon as I finished, and read both in the same day!
I loved this meeting and the play with Truth or Dare! Great world building had me immersed in their emotions, action and scenery. The story ends at a good place and has me so excited to see what happens when/if they meet up again!
I loved it, Adrianna and Will meet on a dare in San Francisco, which is their last day in this awesome town before returning to their homes. They can't deny the connection that they share in so many aspects. A great prequel to Dare Me, I want more!!
She’s ready to go home, her last day on the West Coast. She meets Will and it’s his last day too. They spend 24 hours together and really hit it off. They meet up on the flight home when he discovers she is his friends little sister and he’s been warned off her.
A short novella that is a prequel or introduction to the Donovan series. A meet cute with an insta-love theme that is left open ended to introduce you to the first book in the series. It definitely piqued my interest so I'm looking forward to reading at least the first full book in the series!
Two strangers and one night of sight seeing and connections. Who knew truth or dare could be so much fun? But what will happen when reality hits and Will finds out who Ari really is? A must read and I cannot wait for more in the story.
I enjoyed everything about this story except for the ending… which kinda just leaves you hanging. But, I guess that’s really the point… so you’ll purchase the next one. Even so, it’s a really good one.
Loved this prequel so much and grabbed Dare Me right away to see what becomes of Arianna and Will. Very cute story and I love the way they meet and their whole day together, and then how fate brought them together once more the next day. Looking forward to see what happens.
Oh I can’t WAIT to see what happens with these two! Arianna and Will have an AMAZING first date, but it turns out that there’s an unknown connection… to be continued!"
This is an extremely brief (less than 100 pages) prequel to Dare Me. It's not really standalone. It introduces the main characters and how they meet up.
