Wow this is an absolute non stop action packed read!

Roxy’s new business venture brings together a particularly able security team who safely transport relics between owners. Their current assignment sees them arrive at the destination to find the recipient tied to a chair and being badly beaten. They can’t leave the item with him, and the sender has also been badly assaulted and is in hospital. It is up to them to find out what is significant about this item.

Their investigations lead them on a literal treasure hunt towards the treasure of the Temple of Solomon and the actual Ark of the Covenant. But, there are another group after the same thing and they are helped by highly trained mercenaries….

I found this book extremely interesting. As well as the action, of which I’m a huge fan, there is a lot of history around the Knights Templar and the Freemasons; not to mention the Tabernacle, the Temple of Solomon and the Ark of the Covenant.

Absolutely loved it and I’m delighted to see the author has a substantial back catalogue for me to read!

Many thanks to Avon Books for sending me a copy to review ahead of publication.

Mr. Leadbeater has a very real talent for creating action and thrills in his stories. I really like “treasure hunt” stories and this one, like all of the series so far, certainly fulfills that passion of mine.

Mr. Leadbeater bases his story loosely on historical events, such as the Knights Templar in this story. The adventure takes off from there. Mason, Roxy, Quaid, Hassell and Sally get involved in another search for a priceless artifact. This one is a very big one!! I like that way the group gets along and they all bring a unique set of skills to the team. Of course there are bad guys looking for it too. The bad guys have a megalomaniacal man running their show. The team moves from cryptic clue to cryptic clue running into the evil do-ers along the way. This is where the action comes into play.

The sad thing about this novel is that I felt the ending was unsatisfactory. The book just ended. I was left without resolution. .

I want to thank NetGalley and Avon Books/HarperCollins Co. UK for forwarding to me a copy of this great book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed in this review are solely my own.

This just wasn't for me, I couldn't get to believe in the characteristics really and I felt as if I was watching an action movie, ones I wouldn't normally watch. I am sure many will love it, but I rattled through it as quickly as possible to get it read.

"The Midnight Conspiracy" is an absolute blockbuster in the third installment of the Joe Mason series that is thrilling and captivating combining elements of history, mystery, conspiracy, and action into an adrenaline-fueled ride. David Leadbeater, known for his mastery of suspenseful storytelling, once again demonstrates his ability to keep readers hooked from the first page to the last.

Joe Mason and his team are a part of Sally Rusk's new security firm whose primary responsibility is to transport ancient relics between their owners. When they receive their first assignment of transporting a golden basin between two professors, little did they realize the consequences of such a dangerous assignment. When they reach their destination, they find their recipient tied to a chair and badly beaten up. After a violent gunfight with their adversaries, when they return to the sender of the relic, they find him too, assaulted and fighting for his life in a hospital.

Mason and his team have to figure out the importance of this artifact and who and why the attackers are interested in this historical item. Their investigation leads them to the Guild of Nights, a secret cult within the Freemasons and Knights Templars, led by their leader, who wants to lay his hands on the treasure. The clue in the relic further leads them to the Temple of Solomon and the Ark of the Covenant. However, in this journey, they are confronted at every stage by deadly foes and trained mercenaries, who will leave no stone unturned to decimate Joe Mason and his team.

Will Joe Mason and his team succeed in defeating the powerful forces manipulating the events behind the scenes? Will they finally decipher the clues that lead them to their final destination and uncover the hidden treasure?

The book is full of action, suspense, and twists that keep the reader hooked until the end. The author has a knack for creating realistic and likable characters who have to face impossible odds and make tough choices. The action sequences are expertly choreographed, with vivid descriptions that transport readers into the heart of the action. The Midnight Conspiracy is a well-written and engaging novel that will appeal to fans of action thrillers and adventure stories. I am looking forward to the fourth installment in the series.

The Midnight Conspiracy by David Leadbeater

When Joe Mason agrees to transport a priceless gold basin to its new owner, he arrives only to discover that the recipient has been brutally murdered. To catch the killer and unravel the secrets of the relic, Mason must act swiftly.

However, he soon realizes that he is not the only one interested in the basin. The Guild of Night, a dangerous and vengeful cult, is determined to undermine the Church’s power using the basin’s hidden abilities.

In a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across the country, Mason races against time to uncover the conspiracy before the devastating power falls into the wrong hands. The Guild of Night will stop at nothing to protect itself, and its members have secrets worth killing for.

First off, the cover of this book, as well as the entire series, is visually appealing, and it perfectly captures the essence of the story. Moving on to my review, I must say that I am a huge fan of this series. It ticks all the right boxes for me. I particularly enjoy its Dan Brown-esque elements, the incorporation of historical details, and the well-executed action scenes (although I do have a minor criticism in this regard).

The settings in the book are engaging, and the characters are consistently entertaining. The pacing is fast-paced throughout, keeping readers hooked. However, I deducted half a star from my rating for a specific reason. Personally, I have a pet peeve when it comes to action sequences, which is mainly applicable to action movies but also made an impact in this book. I find excessively long action scenes tedious and tend to lose interest quickly. Unfortunately, this book felt like it consisted of approximately 70% fight scenes, which became repetitive after a while. The pattern of searching for clues, encountering bad guys, engaging in lengthy car chases or fight scenes, escaping, and moving on to the next clue was repeated throughout the entire book. Additionally, the ending felt abrupt and somewhat unfinished, which contributed to this book becoming my least favorite in the series.

Despite these minor flaws, I am still highly invested in the series and eagerly anticipate delving into book 4, “The Babylon Plot.”

Full review:

Thank you Netgalley fro giving me the chance to read and review this book.

The midnight conspiracy b David Leadbeater is book three on his Joe Mason series. In this installment we follow Joe and the team as they take on their very first security job, where they are to delivery an artifact between research professors.
Unfortunately this simple job turns out to be anything but simple when they find at the drop off point the professor being beaten up by unknown mercenaries.
This sudden violence sends Joe and his team on fast paced journey filled with confusing clues, deadly foes and history’s truths.

I really enjoyed learning about this type of history and figuring out the clues alongside everyone else. Along side all the history we learn a lot more about each of the teams personal history and how their own mental states is after the traumas they experienced in book one and two, which created more depth to the characters and added more life to the story.

If I did have one negative is that I felt that the book did wrap up the ending a little bit to quickly, I would have like just a few more pages explaining what happened to what they discovered and what happened to the main villain but this might get recapped in the next book, The Babylon plot, coming out in October.

I fond this book intriguing, fast, thrilling and educational but in no way boring or textbook like. I can’t wait to learn more about Joe, the team and the lost and rare artifacts of the world.

“The Midnight Conspiracy” is the third entry in Leadbeater’s Joe Mason Series. This series has it all: mystery, action, history, religion, the chase, and conflicts around the world. Our Protagonist Joe Mason an ex-MI5 operative is teamed up with Roxy, his female counterpart. They are joined by others who they had added along the way and each brings a unique set of skills to the team. This team are a part of Sally Rusk's new security firm whose primary responsibility is to transport ancient relics.

This story begins as Joe Mason and his group agree to transport a priceless gold basin to its new owner. Simple, yet when they arrive only to find the recipient dead – brutally murdered in cold blood. To solve the mystery, they must uncover the relic’s secrets. To do that, Sally helps decipher the clues which leads the group on a literal treasure hunt towards the treasure of the Temple of Solomon and the actual Ark of the Covenant. All seems simple, but of course there is a dangerous and vengeful cult The Guild of Night who wants these items. An so the fun begins.

I admit that I am a sucker for Dan Brown type books ~ Secret Societies, ancient texts, mythical treasures, riddles, and so on. So, was it a good bet I was going to enjoy this one ~ & I did. Was it perfect? ~ No. But “The Midnight Conspiracy” as was the first book “The Vatican Secret” were enjoyable and quite readable. There is a lot of history around the Knights Templar and the Freemasons. Yes, the series is a bit far fetched at times, but that certainly adds to the tension and excitement. Just go with it like with Reacher, Bourne, and even 007. 3 1/2 or 4 Stars? A weak "4".

Book 3 in the series and latest blockbusting instalment of the adventures of Joe Mason and his team. Having survived the atrocities of the previous book and set up the new company, Quest Investigations, they are hired to deliver a precious relic to a professor in Poole. Another well written boys own style adventure thriller. Fast paced and exciting this could be read as a stand-alone but it’s worth reading the earlier books to get to know Joe Mason and his team. There are some wonderful descriptions of some of the most famous Knights Templar buildings with some interesting historical detail.

Briefly, what the team don’t know is that there are two relics, each providing clues to the whereabouts of the Tabernacle of Solomon and the Ark of the Covenant. They also don’t know that The Guild of Nights, a secret cult hidden within, but not part of, the Freemasons and led by a bloodthirsty Scottish madman, is also hunting the treasure.

The action takes place in England and Scotland with non stop action from start to finish. An easy read with lots of dead bodies but nothing gratuitous à la Indiana Jones! A very enjoyable romp and after all the adventures the ending was a bit sudden and as with previous books there is a bit of a cliffhanger that no doubt we will see explained in book 4. Great fun.

Joe, Roxy and crew are back for another thrilling adventure.

This time around the gang are contained to good old Blighty. That meant my geography could cope - I knew where they were, what was nearby and best of all - didn't have to look up how to pronounce place names! Action, history, legendary secretive organisations and artifact hunting all mingle together into an absorbing action thriller. I read this in one fell swoop and could not put it down.

I loved they way that the team just works on the fly - doesn't matter what you throw at them, they just roll with it. I've always been interested in religion from an interested outsider perspective and add in history and I'm a goner!

Their simple drop off job just grew arms and legs and before they know it they're fighting off mercenaries left and right and the archvillain is a complete nutbag! I was a wee bit disappointed the baddie was Scottish but we do lend ourselves well to being the big bad lol!

I did find it ended just a bit suddenly and I could have done with a bit more... fleshing out. I kinda went from 100mph to 0mph in 0 seconds.

I'm only a little sorry that Quest Investigations isn't real - I'd happily apply for a job there tomorrow. They've got to need an administrator, right?

This book will really appeal to those who like a fast paced, action packed story, similar to the The DaVinci Code. This is the third book in the Joe Mason series, I have read book one or not book two.
In this book, Joe and his team are hired for the secure transfer of an invaluable, historical relic. In transferring this object they discover that there are people desperate to get their hands on it. It triggers a 'treasure hunt' with Joe and the team following clues and trying to stay in front of a ruthless enemy in a quest for an artefact of significant religious value.
While being engaging, I think, I am personally a little weary of this style of story where a group constantly get themselves out of unbelievable situations where the odds appear to be stacked way against them.
For me this is 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Joe Mason and his newly assembled team are back; a collective for hire to find or protect ancient artifacts. A simple job turns into a bloody battle to find the Ark of the Covenant.

Indiana Jones this is not. I found this one to be more heavily focused on gun battles and escapes than religious conspiracy twists and turns compared to previous instalments. Which is a shame as the Guild had promise but felt underbaked.

I did like the reference to Baldock, a small town near where I was born so evoked some lovely memories but I’d have liked more of the focus from previous books. Hopefully just a blip, still a very enjoyable book but such is the standard Leadbeater has created with this series, this one just fell a bit short.

Enjoyable but the seemingly endless descriptions of hand to hand, blow by blow combat fights where the outcome is already assured, and the injuries bruises and cuts heal in miraculous overnight timespans wore more than a little thin. If this kind of action is your thing I can imagine no author would satisfy you more . I just didn’t connect with this authors conception the way I do to David Silva or other fine authors. Holes in the plot development also left me to mind wander around, information magically appears obvious in the treasure hunt aspect when it has not for centuries prior appeared obvious to anyone else?! oh well, it was fun but not very credible as a story. And then the painfully fast ending wasn’t even funny

If you like books with non-stop action, The Midnight Conspiracy is the one for you. Seriously, the action literally never takes a break. An ominous organization steps out of the shadows in their quest to attain one of histories most famous artifacts. Only Joe Mason and his team stands in their way. In many ways this series is a throwback to the legendary pulp novels of the 30's and 40's. A talented team trying to deal with the personification of evil. Along the way. Leadbeater gives us a few more glimpses behind the curtain of each character. The Midnight Conspiracy may not be my personal favorite in the series but, like the others, it is an entertaining page turner.

The Midnight Conspiracy - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Move over Robert Langdon - David Leadbeater's Joe Mason is the new hero in town.
Homaging The Da Vinci Code and with a soupçon of Indiana Jones, The Midnight Conspiracy sees our hero in a non-stop adventure-thriller, with a stolen historic artefact, Knights Templar and of course an evil shadowy organisation who will stop at nothing to get their hands on the prize...but then neither will Mason hesitate to do the right thing when the chips are down.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This is billed as a high octane thriller that fans of Dan Brown will love. It is certainly the same genre with a mystery based in religious beliefs, but that is as far as it went for me. I thought the writing was simplistic and very repetitive, and the characters and events lacked credibility. The main characters are a fairly new group of supposedly experienced ex-military operatives and they haven't even set the volume level in their ear buds correctly. It reads like Keystone Cops farce and I didn't read beyond 20%.

Action packed doesn’t do it justice! A delivery job of something precious leads Joe, Roxy and the team into a hunt for one of the most sought after artefacts of all, courtesy of the Knights Templar and it’s subsequent roots in Scotland. Of course a hidden evil faction, The Guild of the Night, already has eyes on it and nothing will stop them as they seek the leads that will find them the ultimate treasure. The story bounds along with no let up as each party pursues the clues and the elimination of Joe Mason becomes a top priority for the Guilds sadistic leader. Enjoy the ride.

The author knows how to write a good thriller as he once again demonstrates in this entry into an excellent series. With the added benefit of the historical research obvious in preparing this novel, the background for the story gets even better. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily provided an honest review.

Nail biting

Another Fantastic story by David. Mason and his new team, while getting to know one another and building team trust, Are hot on the trail of the hidden treasure. Fighting the mercs that have been sent by the guild, hidden tunnels, cryptic messages, it's just none stop action all the way.

Exciting read

The Midnight Conspiracy was fast, furious, and fulfilling. It was great to see the team continue molding into a cohesive unit, and the payoff at the end was very satisfying. David Leadbeater appears to be at the top of his game.

Overall well done. The “villains” were consistently dark hearted and evil. Seemed pretty consistently psychopathic. Once again wealth can hide great evil .
