Hook was a pirate in search of his daughter. Aurelia was a mermaid trapped in Neverland.
The deal I'd made with the sea witch was supposed to be simple.
She was to give me a ship that could travel between realms, and I was to capture a little mermaid by the name of Aurelia once I got to Neverland. The witch said she would come for her when she was ready.
Except, Aurelia wasn't little when I captured her. She was a beautiful young woman, and she was in my bed, in my quarters, taunting and tempting me with what I was sure were some type of siren powers.
Powers or not, Aurelia snuck her way into my heart. I couldn't let her go. I needed both her and Wendy in my life.
If only I'd known what I was truly in for when I first made that deal with the sea witch.
The Little Mermaid and Captain Hook is a fractured fairytale and is the second book in the Twisting Fairytales series. The main characters are ages 18 and up, and this novel should be read only by a mature audience.
This was such a good book! After 'Rapunzel & Robin Hood' I already had higher expectations and I'm so happy that it did not disappoint. Even though Tangled is my all time favorite Disney Movie, I liked the 'retelling' of The Little Mermaid so much more. There was no insta-love, loved the chemistry between Aurelia and Hook, somewhat of an enemies to lovers trope and really enjoyed the twists to the original story.
Crazy enough, as much as I loved book 1, I may like book 2 more! The creative retelling of these fairytales was ingenious! I LOVED Jessica’s retelling of these fairytales! While fractured, the tales were not ripped to shreds. I was on pins and needles reading to see how she would craft the entire story! I LOVED it!
These twisting fairytales are right up my street. Fantastic storylines, great characters and so much to enjoy in this. Love these books and love this author
Wow! I can't believe I'm saying this... even though I really enjoyed Rapunzel and Robin Hood, I loved Aurelia and Hooks story more! Intrigued and captivated from the start, I couldn't put it down and I can't wait for the next one!
I wasn’t a prisoner to this ship, but my heart might have been prisoner to its captain. Therefore, I may as well have been bound to the helm with rope.
The Little Mermaid and Captain Hook is a twisted and quite spicy tale of a mermaid named Aurelia, who longs to walk on land and fall in love. And of a governor turned pirate in search of his missing daughter.
George(Hook) is sentenced to a cell in the dungeons of Cresea by none other than Prince Eric. After having his hand cutoff by Eric himself, George happens upon the Sea Witch in the cell next to him. Replacing where his hand once was with a hook, George makes a deal he will grow to regret. With the help of the Sea Witch, George commandeers a ship and crew that will take him to find Wendy, his daughter, in Neverland. Finding and capturing Aurelia, Hook begins to have other feelings for her all while dealing with his past and guilt. Will they get the happy ending that both of them deserve?
I found this story had more developed plot, as well as the growth of the characters and the relationship. We really take a journey between worlds. I look forward to reading the next book in this series from Jessica Erin.
While I didn’t think I could love two characters together more than Rapunzel and Robin Hood in book 1, The Little Mermaid and Captain Hook may now be my favorite! This is a great twisted fairytale by Jessica Erin! Can’t wait for the next.
I love stories that do retelling of fairytales or mash fairytales together so much! Picture Disney fairytales but for adults.
This is a whirlwind romance. A little bit of slow burn having to set the stage and get the characters in the right places. A light hearted read with a little bit of angst. The spicy scenes are amazing and this is an age gap romance.
BUT! Aurelia may have started out as fifteen but when she meets Hook she's nineteen. There are absolutely no underage sex scenes! Just a kiss but she was seventeen and nothing more happened.
There were several twists and I hope to see some of the side characters again. Or developments with their stories. We got to see some magical elements and understand how dark magic comes about. Aurelia's father is also someone you shouldn't mess with.
A very fun read and I loved all the twists! Good ending as well, leaving an open end for possible other books in the series with side characters turning into main. But otherwise the main characters get a happily ever after!
Enjoyed this one even more than Rapunzel & Robin Hood but for different reasons.
I was wondering how the writer would craft this story. So much so that I came up with my own idea of what it would be like before I started reading. I was wrong, I didn't expect the twists they gave us.
Hook being Wendy's dad and that being the reason he was in Neverland aside from capturing Aurelia for the seawitch was genius. It really added to the plot plus it made me interested in a Wendy and Peter storyline which I hope we get in a future book.
The steam was steamier than the first book but that might just be my opinion and probably depends on what you like as far as spice. I didn't see any trigger warnings, but I'll go ahead and put praise kink and age gap here for anyone who might be sensitive to that even though it WAS mild. I was not offended in the slightest.
Overall this was a five star read for me. I couldn't put it down and I hope theres another one soon.
My favorite things about it:
The mix of fantasy and historical romance was something I didn't expect and I found myself searching for more like it after I was done.
The bond between Aurelia and her sisters plus Aurelia's bond with Wendy. Their relationship gave me tears in my eyes at the end.
The setting. The way they wrote Neverland was different and I felt like I was there as I read.
The spice and the love Hook had for Aurelia. I'll think about both him and Robin for a while for many reasons.
I'll be following this writer as long as they keep writing stories like this.
Yes! I am a sucker for Hook retellings! This book was very well written! Again, like the first book to the series, I loved the author’s way of blending classic fairytales. It was very well written, I truly enjoyed it. Aurelia took a bit to grow on me, but her character development was wonderful to see grow throughout the chapters. I will be honest though, I felt extremely bad for Mary. Oof, that really hurt, how she basically saw her “still husband” with another woman. That was a bit heartbreaking for me and I didn’t like Hook and Aurelia while I was reading that part of the book. Overall, the storytelling improved immensely since the first book! I can’t wait to see what fairytales the author blends next!

Another fairytale, another retelling 😍🤩 I’m so excited to read more from this series and can’t wait for them to be released! The Little Mermaid was my favorite princess growing up & after watching the show Once Upon A Time I had a major soft spot for Hook, this book combined two of my favorite things🥰
I absolutely loved this book. I loved the little mermaid and all the twists in this book. It was a good pace for this book. It didnt feel like ot was moving to quickly like the first book in the series. I couldnt stop reading it.
I quite liked this one. A mix of my two favorite stories. I could have done without Eric being kind of a bad guy, but it was still a cute story, and I will ALWAYS take a sexy captain hook.
This book will make you fall in love with the “evil” Captain Hook. I though Once Upon a Time TV series made me fall in love with Hook, until I read this. I’ll never be able to read Peter Pan the same again.
This was a fun little twist on the Little Mermaid and Captain Hook, with just a touch of spice. Most of your favorite elements are there from both stories, but there’s also enough originality to make it fresh and fun.
It's a really enjoyable book overall. Sure, the ending felt too long, and some characters felt unnecessary, but the main characters make up for it. The only thing I wish is thar I got to know Hook more because Aurials chapters go on for a lot longer than Hook's. But still a good read.
